If you live in Georgetown this is THE grocery store. A little more pricey than the city, but hey what can you do. It's the convenience fee. They have pretty much everything you need! I miss doing my shopping here. Great people in a beautiful area! read more

This store is kind of like a landmark point when traveling up to see my mom. She lives in the Georgetown area and to my disappointment, there are a bunch of twist and turn style roads to get up here from the 916. One particular recent visit (to organize mom's house! home edit anyone?) I had just taken my cat to the vet for a routine check up in Folsom, so I wanted to get on the road right after. About halfway into the drive up, started to smell either a bad fart or my poor kitty had gotten car sick....and sure enough, she had pooped under the seat. Poor thing. Must've felt like a boat ride in choppy waters. She was fine and luckily enough, we arrived soon after, but I decided to stop here just before Mom's to see if they carried any of those pet friendly enzyme odor fighting chemicals. Found one that is pet safe, organic, and plant based so a few spritz of that, we were good to go. What I did notice here is that the market is well kept, smelled clean (always a good sign), pretty well organized, I was able to find everything I was looking for despite not being familiar with the general store layout. Staff were friendly too. I would definitely stop here again. Even the Deli looked yummy! Might get a fresh sandwich to go next visit. read more

The good is as far as locals go. I go over the hill and burn fuel although the store could use some help not necessarily the fault of anybody. It's just expiration dates need to be looked at a little closer. read more

My Mom shops this store, she said the prices are higher than Safeway and Raley's. I went with her the last time I visited and shes right! I also noticed that every single last number on a price of something is a nine. Economic sociology is quit interesting. 3.99 lb for grapes..Oh sorry I mean $4.00 She paid over 10 for grapes. The bags are loaded to equal a high price! What is one suppose to do remove grapes to like one pound? Where do you put them? =/ I guess the people up there have no choice .Marvel is all they have! Bought chicken at the Deli and some legs were the size of Texas. Maybe chickens on steroids or hormones or something! Didn't taste good too me and certainly not healthy. Nice big store for small town Georgetown. We moved here several months ago and was pleasantly surprised with the size of the store. They have everything you need. Prices higher than in the flat land but not terrible. Great deli with tasty sandwiches. Their fried chicken is amazing! read more

I'm a fan of this little store. Has everything I need and more but that's what happens when you go shopping. Produce is fresh and they have a good size organic section I noticed they had golden beets! Also a discounted section for things on the verge of being waste. Deli sandwiches look good and there is always a line. Everyone is friendly. I haven't really had too many baked items just a few of the pies banana cream and the lemon meringue both are good. We recently relocated from the North Bay Area, and I was concerned about finding good produce and meats in a town as small and isolated as Georgetown. Mar-Val has been a pleasant surprise. Produce selection is excellent, prices are often much better than what we paid at Safeway in Healdsburg, the meat selection is really good with Harris Ranch beef, and we know that fresh seafood comes in twice weekly, so we shop accordingly. I ordered a whole top sirloin for Christmas, and it was one of the best roasts we've had. The butcher prepared it exactly as I asked--something that hasn't always happened at other stores. I have heard people complain about high prices, but most products here cost less than what we used to pay for groceries. I have no complaints and really enjoy shopping at this store. Best bakery? Probably because it's the only bakery in Georgetown. People have the option of shopping here or driving to Holiday in Cool or driving 18 miles to Placerville or Auburn. We only shop here when necessary. I feel sad for those who can't have any other option, read more

I love this grocery store and deli. We always stock up there for our food and drinks before we go on the Rubicon and can get everything we need. We normally stay in Georgetown a couple of days before and make multiple runs for whatever we need. The deli sandwiches are amazing and they make them exactly how you ask them to. The staff is super friendly and welcoming. The prices are very competitive with the larger cities out of the mountains so this is a huge plus. read more

I definately choose to shop at MarVal's over Holliday Market in Cool. People are friendlier and considerate. And the Manager Julie is like ice cream on a hot day! She is always just shining. This is a great local grocery store. read more

Came up to visit family from Jackson and decided to go to Marval to get a Sandwich. Ordered a Turkey with Cheese and some condiments the worse sandwich I've ever had for $8.99. By the time I got to my brothers house 5 minutes away the Sandwich was soggy and not really edible! The chips were good lol. read more

I've shopped at Marval for 30 years. The staff is consistently helpful and the prices are competitive with other grocery stores. Through the years, the store has physically expanded its space and added features at customer requests, such as an organic produce section, a bakery, deli service and much more. Requests for new products are honored if the store is able to obtain them from its vendors. Recently completing a refreshing remodel, the store is modern and clean. The MarVal company through its local staff, has been very supportive of community events for decades. Yay for MarVal! read more

I've lived in the area for more than two decades, and Mar Val keeps getting better. I can find quality items for all but the most esoteric recipe. I also love the friendliness of the staff, and the many ways they support our community. read more

Great Angus Beef and a great butcher. Excellent service in all departments with many specialty items. Well almost all departments; their baker is miserable but everyone else more than makes up for her. We've been shopping at Mar Val since 1989 and they are the best. read more
