Holiday Market is a small grocery store in the rural southern part of the town of Placerville. I stop by when I'm in the area coming n going to Jenkinson Lake which is nearby. The various staff throughout the many years have always been terrific. The market is a scaled down grocery store offering the same types of groceries as a full sized grocer. Just not as many brands and selections. My go to is their deli counter. I like to order the custom made sandwiches, pick up a bag of chicken tenders, or grab hot soup in the winter. They do make a mean delicious sandwich. Quality bread and fresh fixings. The deli meats are mainly Boar'd Head. They also have fresh made baked potato slices and chicken tenders bagged up and placed in the warmer trays; they are self serve. A bag of potato slices run about $3 and tenders $5-6. In the winter, they offer hot soup as well. The soup is self serve near the self serve coffee station. They even have a Lotto self serve kiosk that sells lottery tickets and scratchers. The parking lot is compact but large enough to maneuver about assuming you're not hauling a boat or any type of trailer. If you are, probably the best bet is to park on the side street. read more

It's too bad this store is minimal. It's as if people that live out here have no taste. Most of the times they have minimal product. There's almost no selection for ethnic food. All one has to do is go to Colfax and visit the MarVal store to see what they have to offer. Way better selection of meats dairy and specialty items. Lived in this area 20 years & never came in until today. Had a sandwich made for my lunch & the young man behind the counter was incredibly helpful & pleasant. He engaged with us laughing & talking the whole time. Our cashier was also very pleasant & we met a sweet young lady who collects Hot Wheels. So cool! read more

I've been shopping here for 8 months and taking in my own bags the majority of the time. I did that today, but it was a different experience. I put my items on the conveyor belt along with my bags, and waited my turn with the cashier. First off, I was not acknowledged nor was there eye contact of any kind throughout the transaction. She piled my groceries on top of the bags and handed me my receipt, and began scanning the items of the next person. I stood for a little bit, as I was taken aback by it. I then moved around to the end of the register area and dug my bags out, and packed my groceries. Still, nothing from the cashier...she had a flat affect. I got in my car a little agitated, so I wanted to call the store and find out when the policy changed. I got hold of customer service, who was extremely friendly and nice. She wanted to connect me to a manager, so I waited. While I was transferred. To my surprise, it was the person who had zero customer service skills and didn't acknowledge my existence while I was at her line. I hung up, as I thought "Wow, if she's management, I'm shopping at the wrong store." I then called several Holiday Markets to see what the protocol was for bags, and they all said the same thing, "We bag with your bags brought from home. The Covid protocol for bagging is long been over." I don't think I would have had such a sour taste if she had been pleasant, or said something like "You'll need to bag your own groceries since you brought them from home." Maybe I would've though as I couldn't find another Holiday Market that had this policy...AND this was the first time I had encountered it at this one! Anyway, I'm disappointed as I used to like to go into Holiday Market. I enjoyed how friendly everyone was.... What a pity. read more

This market actually carries a ton of amazing vegan products, and if you request something they will start carrying it. The problem is that even though there is a sign posted saying masks required, half the customers are not masked. This has been the case for the last 5 trips I've made to the store this August. The employees at the checkouts, while extremely friendly, are only wearing face shields; no masks. The other problem I'm having is that while the employees on the sales floor are wearing masks, they aren't practicing social distancing. Today three different employees walked right next to me down an isle! Coming from Los Angeles where our local stores refuse to allow entry without masks, this behavior is extremely alarming. There were several employees walking around with their masks pulled below their noses as well. I don't feel safe shopping here because I don't see the Holiday market stepping up to create a safe environment. As much as I loved shopping there, I'm going to have to shop somewhere much further away that actually enforces social distancing and mask wearing. If you're shopping here, good luck, and be vigilant. read more

Living in Somerset "just down the street" from this store, I'm quite happy to have most everything I need easily accessible. The employees are rather cordial, I can always get help in a short time if I need some. You can take a few seconds to sign up for their rewards program to save money on your groceries while earning points for "stuff." And who doesn't like a good rewards program? :D The store is clean, produce is fresh, there's an abundance of local products on the shelves, and the adult beverage selection is excellent (especially considering this isn't BevMo). Most of the things in the store are just way over priced. It's cheaper and better to drive 16 miles to Placerville once a week to stock up on food. The member card thing is ridiculous and really slows down the checkout and sometimes they can be a bit slow to open new registers. Some of their meats are fair priced. Some of the employees are good and seem to care, some are very defensive when you find something wrong. Always count the change they give you at the register and check the price they charged you. The deli sandwiches are good and fair priced. The other deli food is generally good but only if it's fresh. If it's been sitting there all day I wouldn't touch it. read more

Very mixed feelings about this place. Lately they've been OK (specifically, ONE employee has been nice, the rest tend to ignore you). I broke down in their parking lot a while back and asked the manager if I could use their phone to call into my work. Initially, he said I would have to wait as the phone was in his office and he didn't have time to get let me use it right then, so I waited for about 45 minutes and asked again. The second time I was told I was not allowed to use their phone. Um, excuse me...? I found it INCREDIBLY rude, and this was the MANAGER! (Probably isn't now because I haven't seen him for a while, but still! I had to walk across the street to ACE Hardware, who were VERY friendly and helpful, even suggested a few things that might help for a quick fix (which worked out very well and got me on my way). As I said, mixed feelings about this place because my family had been going here for years, closest place to Grizzly where we lived at the time. Usually not a bad experience but wow did that manager just really turn me off this place. Last resort for me if I'm desperate for something. read more

I moved to the area (like 10 seconds from the store haha) about a month ago and this is a nice store. The people are somewhat nice, and the sandwiches are great, and they are usually quick. Well quick in a country store where the norm is visiting with everyone you see haha. Here is my reason for only giving the 3 stars: HIGH prices on most items. They want to reply to these yelp reviews and say they are competitive prices, but nope, just high. Even Bel Air and Safeway are cheaper. The only reason they charge what they do and still get business is because of where they are, and that is wrong. I go here occasionally, but not as much as I would if the prices were a little lower. read more

I really like this place. My only criticism is that they can be slower-paced than the urban sprawl, but it's usually because they're being friendly, chatting with a customer. Here is my honest scoop: it's a very clean and organized store, been here for a long time and they have done some very nice upgrades. I stop to get some fresh coffee in the early morning hours before fishing, and it's great! If y'all are a nice person (like most people up here are) you will get great energy back from the people who work here. However, I have deducted two stars for the prices that they charge. I spent $87 on a short (15 item) grocery list that would have costed me $50 almost anywhere else. I was a bit upset when I got my receipt and saw how much they were charging for things in total. I do understand that it costs more to truck things up here, so I can't be too mad, but unfortunately, I will not be shopping here any longer due to the prices. read more

Absolutely the pits. Not only was the clerk rude to me--slamming my goods and snapping at me, she did it while she was glaring at the previous customer. Get this she did it while she was talking with the manager and they were cursing the customers. Let's see at anywhere from 130% to 300% what the Safeway why would anybody go there. A bunch of winos hang out in the parking lot. The parking lot is not safe. Ok if you really need a bottle of ketchup in late afternoon, maybe--otherwise it is not only a rip off, it is junk. read more

I have been going here on my route as a pit stop. 1) sandwiches are super fresh and big. They use boar's head meats. Also salads which are pre-packed and are very fresh. The crew are super polite and call you by your first name. If you are heading up the Sly Park or Somerset, stop on by and grab a sandwich and some organic fruits. Great place. Clean. This is a nice little store if you live up in the area away from the town and don't feel like driving all the way down there. The staff is always very friendly and helpful. This place tends to be a little more expensive then some of the other stores down in town but I think this is a good place just to swing by and grab a few items. They carry most name brand items but I have noticed that they don't carry as many things that some of the other stores do, so you might not always find what your looking for. Overall this is a nice little store and I have had no real big issues with them and I would recommend them to others. read more

Been going to this store for a long time, since it changed from Halls Market. Prices are a little higher than most grocery stores, though it is convenient if you live all the way out here, and it is always clean inside. Most of the employees are friendly, the girls at the deli the deli they have there don't so much as smile at you, let alone greet you. They definitely can use training in customer service, though the food is great. Customer service is a must if you want a little side business like that to succeed, especially when people can go across the street to the pizza place which also has a deli. The people in the actual grocery store have always been helpful and friendly. read more

I really love this store, its nice to live just down the road from it, the prices may be a little high, but it sure beats wasting some gas to run into town for a few items.
