I am a huge fan of Grocery outlets! This Placerville location too! It is well organized and has the same pros and cons of all grocery outlets. They don't always carry the same things. The prices are fantastic. Check the expiration dates. Find cool stuff you have never heard of. I come here for groceries when I am visiting my son who lives nearby. I love this Grocery Outlet location on Broadway, employees and supervisors are very helpful. This Placerville location is my favorite one in town. We have a new one, that is bigger but very impersonal and I find some of the prices higher for some of the things I buy regularly. I have been shopping at the Broadway location for over 4 years, and most of the time I find everything I'm looking for, and new things to try. This location is further from me than the new location in town, but I prefer to take the trip to this Broadway store. My only negative comment about it, is that unfortunately, as all CW's, the inconsistency of the products they offer. Lately I frequently find wine without a price. The other day I went for the wine sale and asked a heavy set bald guy the price of an unmarked wine. He directed me to take the bottle to a cashier. They were both too busy to help me. The guy I asked was stocking the wine and he did nothing to get me the price. I went to the other store in town to buy a case of wine. My less than stellar experience was at the Broadway store. read more

It's not everyone's cup of tea but I can get almost everything here that I can buy at any grocery store in the area. Things do change quite a bit and if you get their on the first day of a delivery (after shelves are stocked) you can find some really great things. Bread is top quality, dairy is good. Great choice of cheese, fruit, lettuce... It can be hit and miss although I absolutely love their avocados' add have not bought a bad one. For instance fresh shredded Mattarella or tex mex is at least 1 or 2 dollars a bag less. Bacon is less. Brie is real cheap and president's brand. Tons of great wines and beer. Cookies are so much less but like I said, it can be hit and miss. Be patient... You will get used to the store and always ask thw workers when they get the next delivery. Sometimes I may need to go to Savemart a block away for a couple things but not very often unless I want a rotisserie chicken or something like that. I shop here once in a while and recently my shopping trip was a good one, but with a couple concerns. The store is so very well organized and they have a lot of different products. They always have plenty of staff organizing the shelves so I imagine they get a lot of business so they have to stock products often. I love bargains and GO especially when they have lots of items that aren't at other stores so I was excited to shop this day. I found only a few items that were not marked with the prices. I have seen this at other GO stores and some are really bad. I think it is because the turnover of products is fast and often changes. BUT, it is really frustrating because most people shopping here are looking for deals and if it is not marked then you have to ask or pass. THEN, the other frustrating thing is miss-marked tags. I got stuck paying $4 more on shrimp because the only tag for this item was marked less that it actually was... Always check your price tag before you leave the store!!! Otherwise they do a great job here and I like going there to find my good deals! They have a nice wine section as well and I love how they rate the wines on a chalk board to help you try new wines. read more

I'm sure the shoppers at Grocery Outlet, were shocked today when they saw the massive increase in prices. There are 3 items I go to this store for, my favorite, as of today is Gone. I've been only been going to this store for about 6.5 months. One product I was buying was chili oil. The bottle size is tiny, but it was better than driving down the hill. When I first started buying it, the price was 99 cents, today it was $2.99, a 300% increase, since I first purchased it. Yesterday, the tariffs were announced, but today Grocery Outlet just started charging ridiculous prices, as if their products had already cost them the tariff prices, when their products haven't even seen any tariffs increases yet. Did Grocery Outlet, just figure, hey let's just take advantage of our customer, they are probably hopping to stock up on groceries before the tariffs hit, they will never expect, that we are going to jack up the prices, on them today. The bulk of the product's they sell, are not made in the U.S., which means massive price increases. Considering that the parking spaces are so tight that you can expect damage to your vehicle, how the isles are so tight, which makes it a hassle to even go in there, it will be interesting, to see how long Grocery Outlet stays in business, in Placerville. I know, that I will never, go in Grocery Outlet again. read more

My local Grocery Outlet (on Bradshaw Ave in Sacramento) is my first place to grab staples and then the occasional "very affordable" suprise finds. Only about 75% of the items it's always much cheaper... a few things aren't. The owners and staff are friendly, the store very clean and well stocked. I only go to the big grocery stores when I need something specific I can't get at GO. read more

Love the prices and the employees are always nice, BUT, between the day time stocking, the tight isles and huge carts, and lots of customers, this particular grocery outlet store gives me such anxiety! 90% of the time the first isle as you walk in is cramped, too many items in a small isle, then add an employee stocking or organizing and a customer looking at products and you have an insanely annoying obstacle course. The milk area is always cramped with not only people but too many items, you have to park the cart somewhere fast, grab what you need, no time to look around because your cart is probably blocking someone from grabbing something else. I really appreciate this store, but man, there is just way too much packed into a small space and when you add stocking and the everyday business It makes for a terrible shopping experience. I dread going there for the simple fact that I simply can't move around while I'm in there. The prices are the only reason I put up with it. read more

5/23/2019: I have visited the Grocery Outlet in Vacaville CA but, this is my first time visiting the Placerville store. I decided I would visit with an open mind shopping the inventory, hoping I would find a PLETHORA of organic products and produce . . . The store's inventory in terms of retail, the majority were off brands products while the soft goods were marked as liquidation, i.e., sold as recuperating ten-cents per one dollar; regarding perishables, there are recognizable brands in stock: Overall, the price points are looming around $2.00 to $3.00 LESS than the big box retail stores including, grocery stores. Still, there are minute traces of organic products scattered throughout but, seriously lacking produce inventory and other perishable goods. Will I shop here on a regular basis is the question. I only foresee buying Tide dermatologically approved laundry detergent pods here for $8.99 whereas the retail price via Tar-chjay is $12.99: This will be THE only reason shopping here; I'm reticent buying beer and wine-both seemed rather sketchy how long these products have been sitting on the store's shelves gathering dust. read more

For years this store has practiced the old "bait & switch" game where they charge more at check out than the prices posted on the shelf! In the past, when they were confronted they would have a clerk check the prices and charge the lower price. Now, the Manager has a lapel radio & she calls an employee to check the price THEN CHANGE IT TO THE HIGHER PRICE! I hope they don't continue this practice when the new store on Fair Lane opens or they could face a class action law suit!! What a rip-off practice!! read more

I don't normally take time out of my day to post a review on anything but I think these people need to be called out. Dave & Marybeth, the "new" owners of the grocery outlet on Broadway. I don't give two shits about what happens to this store but I think the customer has a right to know that these owners are doing you any favors. You think you're getting a deal when you purchase expired product but trust me you're not. But don't worry about the good good food.....it always ends up in the garbage. Yes, Dave/Marybeth prefer to throw away perfectly edible food rather than donate to the less fortunate. They treat employees like garbage. This was the worst customer service I have ever gotten at a supermarket, I will never buy at the Placerville Grocery Outlet again, ever. The reason is they will not refund or take back rotten frozen fish they sold me. About two weeks ago I bought frozen salmon, two packages and went straight home and cooked one up. It had a smell so foul that neither my wife or I could eat it, I saved the old package and kept the other in the freezer. About a week later, I decided to see about an exchange or a refund and because I live about thirty minutes away, I called and spoke with a staffer named Lance and asked him specifically if I did not have the receipt could I just get the price refunded to my card, He said no problem, just ask for a manager he will take care of it, I drove to the store and found Lance who directed me to the Closing Store Manager Steven, I presented the frozen fish when I asked to have the price re-credited to my credit card or swapped for something else, he said without a receipt all he could do was exchange it for the same product which experience had proven beyond all doubt was rotten and potentially dangerous to eat. Closing store manager Steven, [he refused to give his last name] REFUSED to make ANY effort to look up the transaction or scan the product to verify the price or give store credit. In my 70 years on the planet I have never had a supermarket refuse to take back and refund a rotten product, so stay away from this store and shop at SaveMart or elsewhere, read more

I have to start by saying I grew up in Placerville and have been shopping at this grocery outlet for as long as I can remember. It has always been a friendly and down to earth place but lately this hasnt been the case. I hate to even write this review but Greg needs to know that the customer service has taken a nose dive. EXCEPT FOR ANNA, SHE IS THE ONLY ONE WHO DESERVES A 5 STAR REVIEW! But I have to say that manager Steve is something awful, I understand there is "protocol" but he seems to intentionally make my experience here bad, every time. Maybe I feel I deserve a little more respect considering I shop EVERY single Tuesday and spend, on average, $150 per trip (shopping here is about the only fun thing I have anymore!). I will continue to shop because the prices are right but Please stop treating my local grocery store as a big corporation. read more

While it is true that not everyone wears a mask in there (though more are doing it now since the last person complained in the reviews), I wear mine and just sorta dodge the ones that don't. No, GO isn't like the huge supermarkets but that's OK, though they might not have every brand or flavor they have all the basics, and you will likely make out pretty well when you know how to do your coupons at the other place for the stuff they don't have and then save big on stuff like produce and chicken/meats/frozen/cereal/yogurt/cheeses as well as various laundry supplies, vitamins, shampoo etc. Oh and the people there are nice and helpful . Today they had three cashiers going around 530 and hence, no long hellish lines like you have in the bay. Though I don't always do huge shopping trips there I'm really glad GO is close to me as I am getting to be a senior and don't always want to get on 50 to drive further than I need to, especially at night and when we had the power outages/bad weather last Dec. Super grateful they were there and open. Keep on truckin' GO. read more

This grocery outlet is very hit or miss. Many of the people who work here are extremely friendly but a few times ago I walked in with my backpack. An employee scolded me loudly and publicly for wearing my backpack. Apparently you must leave your possessions at the register (unsupervised). There was no warning it hadn't been posted as a new policy and was never enforced previously. The way this policy was communicated to me was very rude and aggressive. read more

Outstanding place. Always something new and different every time. Buy something, try it and get back in the next day or two or it will likely be gone. Very extensive amounts of wine and beer at unbelievable values. Many overruns on brand name items. And great buys on products from across the country. Had some incredible smoked ham from Alabama a while back to our fairly local Aidell's sausage $2.99 this week. Many thing's close to sell-by dates but still fine quality. Produce and breads, meats and cheeses all at prices way below other places. Medicines, and many health items too. Cookware, pet food, and a huge amount of frozen food. Maybe not everything on your list, but close. Shop here first. Locally owned and a real asset to the community as Greg is always supporting other businesses, backing nonprofits, and charities. When I moved to Placerville a few years ago I tried going here and it was hit and miss. I usually had to go here first and then to another grocery store to get things I wasn't able to get here - this largely pertained to produce. It wasn't worth my time to make two stops so I stopped going. Very recently I decided to try it again because food prices at most grocery stores seem to have increased substantially to the tune of 20-30% more than I was paying about a year or two ago. I had a really good trip and was able to get good produce at great prices as well as other staples like bread, protein bars, snacks, frozen foods, etc. I went back again a couple weeks later and again had great success in fulfilling my grocery list, getting good prices, and finding fresh produce. That's when I noticed the new ownership sign. It seems to me that this store has vastly improved, and I can now reliably shop here. There are very good prices on shelf stable goods - often premium products at very deep discounts. You do have to check best by dates because usually they are approaching. I'll make an educated guess here and say this must be within the business model of Grocery Outlet stores, and is how they are able to offer these products at such deep discounts. These days I pretty much only shop here and at Costco to cover all my needs. I finally feel like I'm back to getting reasonable grocery prices. read more

Ok first of all I will admit I am a complete food snob! I shop farmers markets and Whole Foods and if I can't make it to those then it's co-op. About 5 years ago I went to this location and walked out after about 3 minutes, between the tweakers, no organic food, and worst of all nearly expired food I was out! My husband still liked the store despite all of those things and a couple times he has told me they were changing the store for the better, I still wasn't having it. Until one night we needed a bottle of champagne and I didn't want to go to the seedy liquor store next door so we ended up in grocery outlet and let me tell you I was amazed! Lara bars for 1.99 for a 10 box, udi's gluten free bread, maranatha large almond butter for 4.99(I think). I didn't buy much at first and went to 2 other stores to check normal expiration dates and the ones here were the same as the other grocery stores. Also the same brand of milk,eggs, and yogurt for a fraction of what I usually pay. I have to respond to the review that said a fly landed on the produce "so much for fresh produce" obviously they've never been to a farmers market or been in a garden or co-op or Whole Foods lol I don't want to eat the produce that a fly won't land on! It's a grocery store with food there will be an occasional fly or bug on the produce especially if it is organic. The produce was fresh and they had a decent selection of organic. I won't be able to do all my shopping here but I definitely will make this the first stop on grocery day or if I need a quick meal for one night. The new model reminds me of Trader Joe's or sprouts with an added section of big lots type kitchen stuff some jackets and a little Christmas section (which I loved). My family is a fan of a good deal (isn't everyone?) and have frequented grocery outlet stores in Sacramento as long as i can remember, the west Sacramento store is pack full of odd candies, frozen foods and cheep toys. My new favorite grocery store -- love the prices! I've only been to this Grocery Outlet twice, and the employees are always friendly. Also, the aisles are kept clean and can easily be navigated. Some of the shoppers are questionable :-P, but, who cares! The cashier was so friendly - I noticed the lady in front of me was purchasing a Starbucks drink in a glass bottle... the cashier noticed she was only buying one, so she offered to get her a cold one, so that she could start drinking it. Additionally, one of my items had no SKU number (just my luck), so she offered to get someone to replace the item for me. You know I get quivery when I drive by (or hubby and I are driving) and I see a Grocery Outlet. He checks my posture to see if I'm ok or if my left leg is shaking but usually he just drives in without asking.he knows I love this grocery chain so much, have for a zillion years. This one in Placerville I knew was there because we used to live in Northern Calif but we were here over Christmas with friends/family so I knew anyone Hong I needed I knew I could get it there and did. They have crazy wines you've never seen before, cheeses and deli stuff you probably wouldn't buy elsewhere because of ultra expensive plus you just never know what you'll find. If you're in the lower socioeconomic strata, this might be a reasonable place to shop, but otherwise...nuh-uh. A -lot- of the foodstuffs are either closeouts from out-of-state chains, or the expiration dates are almost expired. I felt like I didn't find as many goodies as the GO in South Lake Tahoe but I was happy with what I purchased. It's a smaller darker store than I'm used to and it's always crowded whenever I go. The first time I went I was so overwhelmed I left without purchasing anything. The second time, I braved the traffic jam by the produce and the long lines at check out. I got some hair masks, a couple plastic bins for organizing my closet, seaweed snacks, milk, produce, and enough goods for dinner that night. It can definitely be a first stop before you hit Raleys if you don't mind driving across town. read more

Great store. About what you would expect. Take a chance on the wine. Seven out of 10 randomly selected bottles will be good, just like any other store, but at a fraction of the price. Went to this location today and the store was really busy and completely out of cleaning products and hand sanitizer just like every other store in town, However, the lady inline ahead of me happened to be a GO employee I recognized her because she is one of the Rude cashiers there and I always avoid her line plus she was wearing her apron. She was buying a full case of hand santizers. Not one person in the store had a bottle except her. Bad form. The customer service at this store has almost completely gone away. One young blond cashier act's like she is too good for everyone, She can't be bothered to say hello, She never looks at you or acknowledges your even there, doesn't offer bags, or say Thank-You, She doesn't even tell you what your total is, you have to look for yourself then she just hands you the change. Ive gone thru her line a half a dozen times and she's the same way every time. It was so much better when all the older people worked there. read more
