This is one of the first bars I ever visited when I was living in Brooklyn for a hot minute... and it's still one of my favorite destinations in the borough. The music is always on point, the drinks are cheap enough to call it a deal, and there's just a camaraderie of good people that always seem to be present. We went here on a Friday night because of the great reviews and the name- thought it would be a cool Brazilian spot.. It was empty, dark, there was maybe 1 or 2 Brazilian drinks, they no longer serve food, and the music playing was horrible (think nickelback pandora). I, like most people, am a sucker for wisteria-covered secret garden-esque terraces...and this place has it down pat. There are several little niches to claim for your own party, and lots of seating instruments of varying structural integrity. You feel like you're on your good friend's private back patio in some small, quaint southern town, especially if you go on a steamy summer day when the punishing sun is on its descent and Williamsburg's night owls haven't yet stirred from their slumber. (The fact that I'm writing this on a blistery, blizzardy March day is causing me particular anguish.) And the cherry on top of the sleepy small-town charm is CHARLIE - the eternally wise, eternally engaging, eternally accommodating, eternally... present, barkeep. He will wow you with stories of the olden days as he pours you a tall cocktail, he'll hand-deliver a cheesesteak that looks like it was made just for you, heck sometimes he'll disappear to the back for disconcertingly long periods of time, making you wonder where your new friend went, but also content to know that this bar is in good hands and he will eventually return. You must brace yourself for that inevitable moment when Charlie talks to other people; you think, "wait I thought I was his favorite..." But then you'll just return to the back patio to regale with friends old and new over greasy food and icy drinks as the sun sets on another wonderful day in Brooklyn. One of my favorites! Great rock and roll (80s, 90s and classics) music! Decent drinks. Empanadas and french fries are really tasty! Beautiful garden in the back is tended by the beautiful owner. Pool table, large booths, and small tables makes it great for large and small groups. The later it gets, the louder the music, so be prepared to yell over it. It's most fun when you're ready to dance and don't care for deep conversation any longer. (although, most people aren't dancing there -- doesn't stop me!) read more

I decided to visit this place because it has a brazilian name. I think it was 8pm friday night and it was not crowded. I met the owner Charles while seating at the bar. I love the place decor! really sweet. Dimed lighting and very comfortable seats. The music they play just complements the ambiance. nice tunes and the volume was perfect. I asked for a caipirinha ($7) and they did have but they dont make it with real fruit which is a little dissapointing... The yuca fries are delicious with the hot sauce. You may wonder where the patio garden is since it is not visible at first. Charles took me to their secret garden ( you need to open a door on the right, just after the pool table in the back) and all I can say is WOW! perfect, little cozy environment. The decor, the tiny coloured lights and a fireplace! yes..really!! very welcoming and cozy... Unfortunately I didnt see Charles to say goodbye but I am definetely coming back some other time. I got a little drunk with 2 caipirinhas! hoo-hoo Service is excellent! It is a bar, perfect to have drinks and have a great time. Food menu is limited but is ok. This bar is so awesome. It's definitely not a dive, but it's not pretentious either. Drink prices are decent and there are plenty of options for draft as well as bottled beer. The bar is spacious, but has a dark, somewhat romantic ambiance. There is a nice outdoor space in the back. The bartenders are super friendly and attentive. AND the best part: slammin' bar food. I highly recommend (almost demand) that you order the Yucca fries. Last night my friend had a steak sandwich which he really enjoyed. I love the vegetarian sandwich - it's bursting with vegetables, portobello mushroom chunks, cheese (and soy chicken if you want). Love this cute bar - I'll definitely be frequenting it more often. What a great joint this is. My first time there we just rolled in off the street on a Friday looking for an uncrowded bar to relax and suck down an unpretentious drink, slim pickens on a balmy Friday night in Williamsburg. This place has couches, chairs a pool table [with enough actual space around it to play the game without putting your neighbor's eye out] Did I mention the Garden? Our bartender and owner CHARLIE was a sweetpea and fixed us up an extremely filthy martini [with a fresh unpitted olive-we love you] and a cosmo for my accomplice. I was starved, so I ordered something off their bar food menu- Fish & Chips, expecting typical bar fare, but got actual irregularly shaped tilapia filets and crispy delish fries....mmmm. Our bar staff got distracted and it took some time to get paid up...but we forgive you! The best part is that Maracuja is new enough that a PRIME TIME Friday night in Williamsburg doesn't have to feel like hipster pole position. CHEERS BIG EARS! read more

great bar that serves really solid bar food. as mentioned in other reviews, this is a labor of love, and it clearly shows in everything from the ambience to ... the food. although they make some interesting dishes with a south american touch, i tend to keep it simple and order burgers and empanadas. their burger here actually has the taste of a higher end sirloin burger (like what you would get in a good steakhouse). empanadas are homemade, i believe, and really delicious with the acompanying sauce. all in all, solid food and nice ambience make it a good place to go to for a quick relaxed meal and a good beer. read more

I can't say enough good things about this bar. Everything is on point, from the atmosphere and owners right down to the people who frequent the bar. I love to go here and play pool (a lot of good players go here) eat a cheese steak, spend time in the back yard and I always have a great time. This unassuming bar has a beautiful secret garden patio out back. And with a cheap beer-and-shot special, it's a must see if you're bar hopping in Williamsburg. There's also a pool table and juke box, so it's easily a place you could spend several hours. But since I'm not from the area, I prefer to bar hop. The space itself has a divy but comfortable feel to it, and the staff is friendly and attentive. On the night we went, most of the bar patrons were in the back patio and looked to be groups of regulars who all knew each other. As someone from out of town, I like to know when I've stumbled across a local favorite, and this seems to be one of those little gems not everyone may know about. It wasn't crowded for a Saturday night, which makes it great for quick refills! I definitely recommend this as a place to come with a group of friends to pregame for a few cheap drinks or to spend a night out on a budget. read more

What a cool neighborhood bar that exists here in Williamsburg. Its a bit dark when you enter but your eyes will adjust to its aura. I love the feel that the owners have put in. I mean it just oozes with dive/local feel. I will admit that i was looking for something more lively but couldnt help respect the efforts of this non pretentious bar. They serve food and have a nice lil cul-de-sac beer/smoke garden in the back area which is pretty cool. There's a juke box and a pool table. Ample tables layered throughout the space and 2 couch areas for bigger lazy crowds such as ourselves. They have made a few changes over the years but one thing has always been the same.. it's always great. Charlie and Co are always very sweet, the jukebox is pretty tight and the backyard is awesome. I went here on firday night with a friend to have some drinks, got to sit on the nice, plush couch while listening to the juke box. The bartender can make some strong drinks, especially with the long island ice tea.(Drank 3 glasses @_@) A very laid-back environment, until 10pm. that's when hordes of people raid the bar. It's not a bad place though, I'll be here the next time i hang out with my friends in brooklyn. read more

The twinkling Christmas lights, twisting vines and bench seats are a great touch to lend to this atmosphere.
