We had a very good experience this week with Milton and his team at Marathon Moving Services! They packed us up one day and moved us the next. Milton originally came out to meet us and to provide an estimate, which we greatly appreciated, and it was right on-point at payment time. So important! The packing team was very good; they packed us up quickly and carefully. (While I'm still unpacking, all my breakables are so far in great shape!) They were friendly and professional. The next day, a different team handled the move and these guys worked so so hard! They were also very careful, efficient, and friendly, despite the very steep staircase in our condo. I loved Milt and his team!! They were hired to move my furniture to my new home as I thought I could get the "small stuff" in my SUV w/no problem as my new home was near by. Milt said we'll move anything you want and pack it for you. So the three man team got busy and moved everything! Bags of garden soil, planter boxes, plants, a cement sailboat you name it they packed it. They arrived on time at 9:30AM and we were at the new house and were finished unloading at 1:00! Overall I had a great experience with Marathon Moving! The prices were competitive and the customer service was top notch! We had to make changes a few times before the move, their team was on it right away and seemed genuinely happy to help. On the day of the moving team showed up on time and were professional, efficient and courteous. Even with a snowy and icy walk up to the house they had everything packed away in what I would consider record time. When one of the pieces of furniture broke as they were moving it (not their fault, it was old and rickety) they came to me right away and apologized which highlights their honesty and is much appreciated! My only complaint is that there was some damage to a desk during the move in. I had a large U shaped desk that should have been taken apart to get into the room. One movers tried to fit it through the hallway without taking it apart and when it became stuck he started to loosen bolts in an effort to make it fit. This ended up warping several of the bolts and either when finally taking it apart or putting it back together several of the bolts were stripped because of the way he used the drill. The desk is currently functional but it's not as stable as it used to be and I'll need to cut some bolts to take it apart again. Overall I'd be more than happy to use Marathon Moving again! read more

This was the first time I hired a moving company and I would recommend Marathon to anyone in the Hampton Roads area. From the get-go, Milton, the owner, was the consummate professional and very responsive to my questions. They are also very reasonably priced, compared to area competitors. On the day of, Milton called when they were on their way and said they had a last-minute call-out but would adjust my price to reflect a two-man crew. When Milton & his colleague Marquise showed up, they were courteous, professional, and EFFICIENT! I couldn't even tell they were working with a skeleton crew. They moved my 2 bed, 2 bath townhome from Hampton to Virginia Beach in ~2 hours!!! Full disclosure, I had organized my boxes and furniture ahead of time to help expedite things the day of, but I was still impressed with their efficiency. They were also incredibly skilled in navigating the 26' moving truck into the driveway of my new home, which is on a sloped angle off a busy thoroughfare. I will thankfully not be moving again anytime soon, but will definitely utilize Marathon Moving Services if needed in the future. read more

Efficient, careful, responsive movers - Milton and his crew are awesome! We communicated directly through Yelp messaging to get an estimate and arrange the services for a local move. Milton was very responsive and patient in answering all my questions. They arrived within the 1hr window they said they would. When they arrived, I had already packed up everything so they did a quick survey to see what they would need to take down and from there it was straight to business. They have a good system between them of transporting the stuff from apartment to elevator to truck, so they were constantly moving. They took care to transport all my belongings, from the ones that said fragile and even the boxes I had overstuffed that were super heavy. And with a smile and a great attitude the whole time! They brought plenty of packing pads for my furniture, and the plastic wrap for any upholstered items. Once they loaded the truck they went straight to the next stop where they unloaded the truck and placed the items systematically and very organized in a small storage room. Combined he said they have over 20 years of moving experience and it shows. I would definitely recommend their services, and I will definitely hire them again for a future move in the area. For a very full 2bedroom apartment, it took 4.5 hours total, including the drive time to the storage unit. note there is an added 1 hour charge for travel time on top of the labor, at the same rate. This is reasonable, but I didn't think to ask it when I got the estimate. read more

I have nothing but the highest praise for Milton and his team at Marathon Moving Services. I moved from Virginia Beach to Richmond, and I got several quotes before going with Marathon as well as checking reviews on Yelp. Both the quoted price and their Yelp reviews convinced me to go with them, and I am so happy I did. They're not the cheapest but also not the most expensive, and I can tell you they were worth the money. They showed up at 6:45 am, and efficiently and quickly packed my belongings. I lived in a one-bedroom apartment, so I didn't have as much as some people, but it was still quite a bit. They loaded the truck, drove to Richmond, assembled my furniture, got the boxes into the right rooms, and were finished in 8 hours total. I was amazed. I have finished unpacking, and not a single broken item. I'm a military veteran and moved a lot during my time in the service. This was one of the best moves I've ever experienced. We used Marathon Moving today and it was a GREAT EXPERIENCE! Milton arranged the quote via phone and online photos. He provided an electronic quote which was very helpful. The price was very fair and the movers did not exceed the time allotted for the promised quote. Everything was moved without a scratch on either the furniture or the hardwood floors. Tl;dr These guys are great, I would book their services again. I was looking for movers probably 3-4 weeks prior to my move, I liked that Milton was super responsive in answering my questions and getting back to me swiftly. There was no run around with estimate prices and he delivered. I like just getting the business stuff out of the way on first contact. Milton and Dominic arrived at their expected ETA, and were personable and wholly professional. They boxed up all our stuff smartly, asked solid questions, and got it all down to the truck and to the storage unit in an efficient timespan of half a day. I feel I saved money compared to a couple other estimates I've received. They knew my gear was going in to storage and they had all the appropriate extras to cover mattresses, tables, etc. So I was content with Milton's years of moving experience, which showed. The movers were all very kind and courteous. Definitely willing to work hard, however at the end of a long day they were READY to GO and reluctant to put together the beds!! Milton was great on having the damages repaired. But the reason they did not get my repeat business (moving my mother) and the 3 stars is: I should have had 5 movers I had 4, it took longer to move and I had to pay the difference. I got credit for the 5th person not showing up, but the cost for the extra time was more than the credit. ??? Not ok with that logic!! Now that we have unpacked more and moved furniture around, I have found chips out of furniture and broken pieces. read more

Great all around! Was very fast to respond with quote and questions I had. This was my first time using movers and I was so overwhelmed and nervous about the move. I can't say enough good things about this moving company. The owner, Milton, is professional and personable. These guys helped me out of a terrible jam when Budget Truck Rental had no truck or towing device for my car ready when I showed up to pick them up. They waited patiently while I scrambled to find a truck. They ended up being at my house 4.5 hours instead of 2 hours. They even took down my curtain rods and curtains. I needed professional movers with very short notice. I gave this company a call and we discussed the estimate for my personal needs. Milton was very friendly and accommodating over the phone. Their punctuality was met as we previously arranged. The movers introduced themselves with pleasure. We did a quick walk around of my home to see all that needed to be done. I used this company for moving services. I was given a base rate price for 3 movers but only 2 showed up and I was not called and notified of this change. And boy were they slow as molasses!! One guy was arguing with whomever was on the phone And both were taking long breaks at the truck to talk about the phone calls and joke amongst themselves. Also when they removed my sofa they didn't remove the legs so Ofcourse it didn't fit through the door. Did that stop them and make them think hmm maybe I should remove the legs? No, they banged their way through my front door. I had to tell them that they damaged my entry way by not removing the legs and that they need to remove the legs to get it into my new home (I honestly didn't think I had to say something like that to "professional movers"). then I heard the truck back out of my parking area to leave when I noticed almost everything they sat outside was still on my lawn as if I was having a yard sale!! I had to flag them down to tell them all of these items are going also!! I mean how did they not know?? THEY WERE THE ONES WHO BROUGHT THEM OUTSIDE!!! Then when driving to my new home (which is only 8 minutes away) They turned in a different direction and I no longer saw them behind me. I unloaded the items I packed in my car and my daughters car and we were standing there baffled because it was 30 minutes before they finally arrived at my new home. Once they arrived, they started putting my items anywhere even after I told them where the items needed to go. The job was going so slow that I started removing things from the truck as the 3rd person on the job just to get it done faster and eventually just told them to just drop most of my things in the garage because they were taking entirely TOO LONG. My walls are banged up, a few items broken and 2 dressers chipped. The move took them 6HOURS which costed me an arm and a leg!!!!! Even with my 20 year old daughter and I helping to move items. I'm very disappointed and I know If I were a man, there would have been more respect for the time clock and they would have never moved that slow.
