I can't say enough about Marathon Sports in Norwell. My college age daughter is training for a marathon and was having some foot pain issues. They analyzed her foot and gait and found a sneaker that is so comfortable! Additionally, John, talked about the importance of insoles. I'm giving 3 stars for the guy who helped me buy shoes, analyzed my feet, walk, etc. I didn't realize they sized me up a half size until I was checking out. Tried the shoes on again at home & my heel was slipping out. Brought them back two days later. The employees seemed not happy to see me making a return. Be sure you like what you buy or you too might feel like the least wanted person at a party or something. Oh and all their expertise comes at a price. These shoes aren't cheap. Also, although I was next in line, the ? Manager made me wait while a sale was rung up. Very busy store. Two registers. Only one works for ?????some reason. If there was zero stars they would get it for poor, almost arrogant service. First, after 10+ years of buying new shoes there every 3 or 4 months, my wife was ignored in her last trip there in the middle of the week when there was only a couple of customers in the store. She is an avid walker logging 4+ miles everyday of the year and is not a runner. This time there were 3 staffers there mostly standing around and she was in there looking for another pair of shoes. She has always gone there because, although you pay a significant premium for shoes you can get almost anywhere, she like the service. This time, one of the staffers approached her, asked her size and what brand she wore. My wife told her the info and that she usually tried a few brands and was looking for something new. The staffer went and retrieved one pair of shoes, handed her the box and walked away when a much younger runner came in. She said nothing and so my wife tried the shoes on and assumed she would return. She was there to see a few options but the staffer never came over to her or even acknowledged that she would be right back. Another staffer finally came over after 15 min. My wife told her the other person had been helping her. She said nothing and this person asked her if she wanted to buy the shoes she had been handed. So she just bought them and left. She had second thoughts and returned them a few days later but didn't want to tell the counter person about her experience. Now after being a loyal customer and overpaying for 3 or 4 pairs of shoes a year for more than 10 years, she will not return. I would say that if you are a young, avid runner willing to pay a premium, then Marathon may be for you. But for everyone else, I would go elsewhere. read more

Really awesome place. Whether you are an avid runner or jogger, if you need help picking out the right pair of running shoes, this is the place to go. Be upfront with the staff and tell them exactly what you need and they will search high and low to find the right pair for you. I stopped in one afternoon on a whim while running errands and I wanted to see what was available. Personally, I had always run in Nike and I figured I would stop in just to see what they had in stock. The girl that helped me was so nice and so kind. I explained to her that I was a little partial to Nike only because I had never had a problem. Yet, my knees and my shins would kill me after every run. Well, long story short ... she recommended a pair of New Balance running kicks that would give me the stability I needed (thanks ACL injury!) and yet still be lightweight to haul my ass around. And did I mention how stylish they were, too? Some people may complain that the prices are high. Well, not really. You certainly get what you pay for. If you need the stability and the comfort, you'll end up paying for it later down the road (pun intended) with shoes that aren't really designed for what you need. But let's get back to what makes this a 5-star place. The staff. Plain and simple. They are very friendly and very knowledgeable. Plus, as I am still somewhat new to the South Shore, and I don't make friends very easily, the girl that helped me gave me a list of running clubs in the area that were always looking for new people to join. Bonus. I ended up with a new pair of sneaks and a pair of shorts. I got home later that day and realized the shorts just weren't for me. Their return policy is 15 days, but returns are done very simply and easily. Shoes or apparel or running accessories. This is your place! read more

Whenever people tell me they want to run or already run but are having issues with pain, I tell them they MUST get proper shoes. And to get these shoes, they MUST go to Marathon Sports. The staff here knows their stuff, and they'll go out of their way to make sure you get the right fit by looking at the wear patterns on your old shoes and watching you run in the different models they bring out for you to try. Aside from an ankle sprain that was my fault, I've been running injury-free for years. I attribute this to two things: restraint while training and good shoes . It's true that the best shoes for my feet are a specific Asics model that are, uhhh, not so cute, but I am grateful that the staff at Marathon Sports pointed me to my super-supportive clunkers. I've been a happy runner since. P.S. The store's stated return policy is that you can bring back your shoes at any point if they don't work out-- seriously, how awesome is that? read more

I'm always crunched for time but I was in and out of there in less than 30 minutes with a pair of perfect sneakers. Can't really say enough good about Marathon Sports in Norwell. The staff were top notch, very friendly, took the time to analyze my step and stride...found some shoes for me to try and even after I found one I liked a lot, insisted I try a few more just to be sure. There was never any "upselling" or pressure to buy a particular shoe. The ones they provided me varied brands and price, and they just insisted I go with what felt the best, rather than forcing any particular shoe on me. Shoes do seem to be their focus, but they have all kinds of other gear as well. Cute little inviting store. Lots of personal attention. Just a great experience and I will keep going back. read more

After years of failed attempts to find a pair of sneakers that support and don't cause issues (blisters, pain in various parts of my feet) I had given up and had been wearing a pair that only gave me pain in one area (seemed like that was the best I could hope for!). But on a whim, I stopped into Marathon Sports today and was met with Sean and his contagious smile. He listened to my many woes and picked up on issues that I had not thought to share (calf pain). He easily found the perfect pair of sneakers for me after taking so many things into account. I was stunned by how great they felt right off the bat and was more confident after walking around the store for a bit. I was heading to the gym anyway and eagerly changed into my new sneakers and they did not disappoint. I had ZERO pain and actually noticed better leg/knee alignment with some of my exercises. I am looking forward to talking them for a long walk (the biggest cause of my foot pain) as soon as this heat lets up a bit. 1) Friendly staff who are knowledgeable and helpful without being sale-sy or intimidating 2) Never felt rushed (Sean even took time to show me some calf stretches!) but was pleasantly surprised to find such a great pair quickly and effortlessly. 3) I checked the price of these sneakers online and was thrilled that I paid $10 less! Honestly, I would have been OK paying more seeing that these sneakers will be perfect . . . aka - no longer wasting money on sneakers that cause me pain! 4) Reassurance that if I am not happy/thrilled -- I can bring them back. My husband and I both run, and wear shoe brands carried by this location. I have been in this store several times over the years. Occasionally I have received good service there. But as a rule, I do not. We went in a few months ago, because even though our experiences have been less than stellar there in the past, we wanted to support a local business especially during COVID. It was not busy, and there were people behind the counter talking to each other, we were not even greeted. I went home and ordered my sneakers online from the manufacturer's website. I decided to try again yesterday to get a pair of flip flops and sunglasses last minute for a trip. The store is very close to my home so it is convenient. I walked around the entire store, and tried on three pairs of sunglasses, and no one even said hello. I can not imagine that this is how all Marathon Sports locations do business, it is a shame that with great products in a neighborhood store, no one can be bothered to say hello to the people that hopefully will keep you in business. read more

After looking at the Yelp reviews for the other locations and upon numerous recommendations from friends, I decided to visit the Marathon Sports store in Norwell on my way down to visit the 'rents this weekend. Let me preface this review by noting that I am by NO means a serious runner at all. I am a former semi-goth chick who has a few extra pounds to lose and still smokes on the weekends. But I'm slowly losing weight and getting back into shape- and since my jogs are starting to go over the 5K mark, I decided that it was time to get some appropriate sneakers. The staff are SUPER helpful and SUPER nice. They explained to me that they do a "gait analysis" and watched me walk around the store in my socks. After doing that, the guy explained to me that I'm an overpronator and need a supportive sneaker. He went out back, brought out a few different pairs, and $95 later I have the best pair of running sneakers (Saucony) that I've ever worn. Seriously- any level of runner/jogger should get shoes here. I know people who run marathons who shop here, as well as just everyday joggers like me. It's worth it to have a shoe that fits. I'll never go anywhere else for a running shoe. read more

I have shopped at Marathon Sports in Norwell since they opened. I bought 4 pair of Experia Socks, which cost $15/pair, for a stocking stuffer for my husband. I washed and dried them before he wore them and he thought they were too small and wanted another size. I went in to Marathon with the original receipt to simply exchange for a larger size. I was told because they were not in the original packaging, that they could not assist even though I had the receipt. I explained that my husband only wears Experia Socks and clearly they were defective and shrunk to basically a toddler size in the wash. And the guy who told me nothing could be done was the salesperson who sold them to me. $60 is a ridiculous amount of money for 4 pair of socks to begin with, but my disappointment with Marathon Sports and their customer service is far worse. My friend came here looking for his first pair of running shoes and I tagged along. The girl that helped us was so helpful, friendly and patient with him that I decided to get a new pair of shoes as well. She watched us both walk and run and made suggestions based on what she saw. The shoes she chose for me felt infinitely better than the pair I had recently bought. I hadn't even planned on buying new shoes but I could feel such a large improvement that I thought it would be foolish not to. I am totally new to running and exercise in general but I feel better knowing I'm off on the right foot (no pun intended).The shoes that I ended up buying aren't exactly my style but they feel so great that I don't mind. I was really impressed with the whole experience. I feel like they know what they're talking about and take the time to make sure customers are happy and satisfied. I was afraid to come here thinking it was for serious runners and would cost a fortune for running shoes but wrong on both counts. I was researching running shoes on the internet and read to get the best sneaker for you then you should try a running store. I went to Marathon sports and told the salesperson that I wanted to start jogging and what would be the best sneaker for me. She had me walk on the floor in my socks to check out my stride. I'm a neutral walker so she brought out 3 different pairs of sneakers. I tried them on and she let me run around the parking lot in them to test them out. It was like test driving for a new car. She was awesome and I picked out a pair to buy. The staff is very courteous looking out for your needs and I highly recommend this store if you want the right fit for you. read more

After having an awful experience at the Back Bay store twice. I went to the Norwell store which let exchange my shoes again because of problems I was having with them. The Manger Dan spent 30 minutes with me to make sure that I got the correct fit. Run between 1 - 20 miles a week really depends on my schedule which makes shoes very important after 3 knee surgeries. So Azure, the salesperson, arranged for the Cambridge store to ship sneakers to me with no shipping charges. They arrived at my door the next day and even had a handwritten holiday message. Many moons ago, I went to the Marathon Sports store in Cambridge. I didn't have the best experience, as the salesperson insisted on a running shoe that just didn't feel right to me. He basically told me I was wrong and that he couldn't help me, so, needless to say, I left without buying anything. Fast forward to this past weekend. My feet have been killing me, even though I only run about 20 miles a week (old age maybe?). With spring road races approaching, I knew I needed help choosing new running shoes and heard good things about the Norwell store. So I went, hoping for a better experience than my last visit to a Marathon Sport store. I wasn't disappointed. The people there were so friendly and helpful. In today's world customer service goes a long way. I got out of my way to shop for my athletic gear at Marathon Sports. They treat everyone regardless of athletic ability with courtesy. I took my mom there a while ago and they fitted her for walking shoes. She walked all over Brooklyn in those shoes last summer in comfort. She said that her lower back didn't hurt like it had in the past. It is worth the trip to Marathon Sports to get the right gear. read more
