I want to say thank you to Jeremy and Michelle for working directly with us to get my dad's application sorted out. Once we were able to connect with them, they were helpful and responsive, and we really appreciate that. I do still think the process can be challenging -- especially for people who don't have support like my dad has from me. For seniors or anyone who isn't very tech-savvy, logging into accounts, gathering documents, and printing everything out can feel overwhelming. It can also be discouraging and overwhelming to receive a denial after putting in so much effort to complete the application. While the foundation mentioned they've been successfully operating through mailed and paper applications, some of the experiences shared in reviews suggest the process may not always feel smooth or clear. I think there's definitely room to make it more accessible and easier to navigate. That said, I'm grateful for the direct help we received and hope the process continues to improve for others. read more

I use to LOVE using this program they helped me out alot as I am disabled on food stamps and GR, but because of whatever reason they said they are only taking seniors over 60 and I find that to be annoying. Like so many other people have said, the process is purposely hard to make you discouraged so that you don't apply. (Please note, this is a review for Maravilla foundation "servicing" los Angeles county, I say that as Yelp has an old location, SF, listed for me.) I have worked in many fields and understand customers or clients at times can be exceptionally unreasonable and/or do not understand how hard some employees work. As such even when most others write negative reviews, I almost always give the company or organization a pass, knowing when dealing with thousands of clients/customers, inevitably mistakes are bound to happen. All that is to say, it takes A LOT for me to write a bad review. However, my experience with Maravilla was so utterly atrocious, I had to write this. I helped two families fill out applications and guided them on which documents were needed. These families were in dire straits with expenses and really needed all the help they could get. To ensure absolutely NOTHING was missed, we went through Maravilla Foundation's checklist with a fine tooth comb, double, triple, quadruple checking every single document from their State ID's to copies of their heat and electric bills(that we printed off their LADWP and SOCAL Gas's websites to ensure they were the MOST current) to their paystubs to provide income information to EVEN helping them fill out their applications on a computer so its printed on the application rather than hand written to every other document requested. We even wrote an explanatory letter with additional details, i.e. one person is unemployed, etc. etc. All to ensure Maravilla receives the cleanest, most complete application packets. This way, it makes their work easier and these families receive any aid they may be eligible for. Again before putting them in manila envelopes, the packets were checked one by one for each document. Then dates were checked for essentially the 10th time to ensure they were current. I drove one family to a Maravilla location to drop their packet in their bin outside. I drove the other family the next day to the post office and they sent their documents through USPS. Keep in mind their application on front, says "it takes 6 to 8 weeks to process" and so the families knew it would be a bit of a wait. Both families emails, cell numbers where clearly printed in the application and on an additional cover letter stating if ANYTHING else was needed, to please not hesitate and contact them. Several months later, yesterday, one received a Maravilla packet(picture attached to this post) with an empty application and the same document checklist from their website that says "No outdated documents are acceptable". Today, the other family received essentially the same thing. So essentially, these didn't get processed. They either sat on someone's desk or documents were lost, or who knows. However, this level of "not giving [insert bad word] is beyond words. This is an organization that is supposed to HELP people, but when there is ZERO recourse for apathy or poor service, you get results such this. I feel terrible for these families. I will again, go through the application, checklist and all documents in the same meticulous manner with each family and this time send via signature required post. I will come back here if the result is the same again. That is all I can think to do. Hopefully, the this time the application gets to someone who does the right thing, in this case, their job. read more

This foundation has truly SAVED ME for YEARS after being hit with the pandemic, deaths in the family, medical illnesses, etc. I would be in total desolation without their assistance. posting this while trying to assist my mother with her application. To this point, this organizations seems to lack zero empathy and have not been helpful to my retired, disabled mother that has provided all that they have asked for. To start, she mailed via U.S. postal service the required documentation, and when she contacted the intaker to determine the status, was told that even though it was en route, she needed to email them within 48 hours or else her application would be declined. Upon telling me this, I helped her scan and email the documents, and she sent the same day. She was told the next day that the documents weren't received, so I myself emailed them on her behalf. When my mother called to confirm receipt, she was told that she would not qualify because documentation for Cal Fresh was as of February, not January, and that her pension letter did not confirm that it was as of January even though the letter clearly states it is a lifetime pension amount. My mother explained yet again that her Cal Fresh had expired for January and she had since renewed it effective as of February, and the woman rudely said she would still be declined and just provided a supervisor phone number, stating that the supervisor was out of office that day but to contact tomorrow. Given the service this organization provides and the demographic they are supporting, it makes little sense to not be helpful and understanding to those that are in serious need, may have tech or resource limitations, and are not demonstrating any fraudulent intent. My mother called me sobbing, completely frustrated and for all that I can see, there is no reason why her information would not qualify her for the program. I will be joining the conversation with the supervisor in hopes that this can be solved, but it is a shame that this process has not been made easier for those in need. read more

Incomplete application and no time to submit anything that would complete the application because they do everything in 48 hours, but they take up to 10 weeks to assign a worker. I don't know why it went from processing within a couple of weeks to 10 weeks after I submitted a new application. And I'm not sure these people care. Someone please help! read more

Before they were very kind, I send my application in September 2023, I only received a letter saying that they had already received my application that was all, weeks passed I was calling g and they did not answer me, until finally after several attempts they answered me only to tell me that my application was canceled and that I could no longer apply until mid-January 2024. I applied again in January they called me to tell me that they needed some papers and that I only have 48 hours to answer this was on Thursday I immediately sent the papers by email . I send her several emails because I had some questions about this papers that she ask , she never answered my calls or emails, there was no response until Monday that she send me a email just saying I received them but ahead of time didn't answer my question. Today 2/16/2024 I received a letter from Maravilla Foundation saying that my application was denied!!!! It said (Did Not Meet the agency's priority plan ) what does that mean!!!! So grateful for this foundation. There was no wait. appointment kept promptly. Cynthia helped me through the entire process & I got approved for assistance on my large electric bill. Not only that Anna, was awesome letting me know that I also get assistance in weather house improvements, meaning doors that let in the cold & hot air or windows not giving good ventilation get checked. If my appliances, water heater isn't working properly, they will fix or replace it. No cost at the landlord expense and no cost for me. My appointment with this office fell on my birthday and on the night before i broke up with the girlfriend of 10 years, dealing with so much craziness and drama all night...and also my license was suspended over 2 and half months, not being able to make money, bills were pilling up quickly and I needed help, this place was my last option... I showed up to the appointment very distressed and meeting Cynthia for the 2nd time, i explained my situation to her and told her what has happened, she was exceptionally knowledgeable, nice, kind and just wanting to help, telling me not to worry, a good hearted person and positive energy, I really felt like she was my angel that day! I had an absolutely amazing experience at Maravilla. Vanessa was so nice, empathetic and helpful, she is a true example of someone who genuinely cares about her job and helping other people. She went out of her way to help me and because of her, I was able to get the aid I desperately needed. Every woman I dealt with, from the receptionist to the supervisor, was really kind. I've never had such a positive experience at a government facility. I was blown away by how pleasant and painless the whole process was. This review is on behalf of Auntie who utilized Maravilla's services. She said that this organization offers amazing services and customer services. She called in and spoke to Martha, who clarified all of her questions and gave her advice on what the next steps were for my Auntie to receive funds towards her utility bill. In the end, my Auntie got her funds in and was able to pay off her bill thanks to Maravilla Foundation. One of the most important things to know before you come in is to find out the list of paperwork that you need to bring in before you come in. Because they will automatically have to decline you and it will cause a delay in the process if you DO NOT bring in all the required documentation. It's not their faults, it is because they have to follow government protocol. This is a key tip that my Auntie wanted everyone to know. Please be sure to ask the customer service rep what the required documents are before you walk in and please DO NOT forget any of them on the day of your appointment. That's also one of the biggest mistakes I see on some of the other bad reviews. Overall amazing services Maravilla. I just want to leave an outstanding review for this organization! Liliana helped me and she was the best!!!! I live in the city of Pasadena a, but was referred to Maravilla and my light had gotten cut off and I was freaking out because my bill was 600$$ and I have government assistances and DID NIT. Have any means to pay for it. This place asked for my social, my ID my gas and light bill, rent receipt and income verification. The process took about 15 minutes. In and out and got my bill paid. I thought Maravilla was going to help me. They came out, changed light bulbs, replaced washer and dryer, put up smoke alarms. That was apprectiated. But what was really needed never got addressed. The , microwave still does not work, but I guess they blew this off. It is a built in one, so I don't know where to start on this repair. But, I truly appreciate what they have done, but if I was Hispanic and or another race, things would of been completed already and I am suffering. My A/C / Heating unit does not work, told them that in Dec. 2023, and never heard back from them. Froze through the cold months. Called back Jan. 2024 and I was told my file was closed. I asked why? No answers on that. I told them I thought the Microwave was going to be replaced. No answers on that. Told them again about A/C Heating unit I thought was going to be replaced. Then they sent a man out who took many photos, and agreed about the need of a new A/C Heating unit, but then was told my file was lost as well as the photos. I said he took photos on his cell phone, they still must be there. Just got excuse after excuse. I am sad over this, as I have already been to the ER for heat exhaustion. What does someone at my age do? Yes, I am a senior and I guess if they blow me off, I will go away. But, I truly believe if I was Senior who is Hispanic I would not be writing this sad review. My friend who is not Hispanic is getting the same treatment, but my friends who are Hispanic have gotten all that they needed plus more. Just plain wrong!!! read more

Hope, Second Chances, and Redemption! 'Tis that time of the year when we reflect on what's transpired and be thankful for what we have. Hope: My initial experience with Maravilla Foundation was frustrating and unpleasant. But, I never gave up on hoping that my goal for a new fridge was attainable. I appealed to SCE for assistance and they responded by assigning a different contractor to process my application. The other contractor was a dream to work with, but my wish wasn't approved by SCE because they had an UNDISCLOSED "cut-off date" for eligible refrigerators. It had to be mfgr in 2001 or older. (Mine was made in 2002.) If I knew that secret, I could've self-determined my eligibility in seconds and not have wasted months of my precious time or jumped through so many hoops for nothing. I appealed to SCE again and asked them to make an exception and/or to amend their "cut-off year" since 2022 was just months away. Miracles do happen and are often blessings in disguise! Second Chances: SCE reassigned Maravilla Foundation to my dismay. However, their persistence in calling me again and again, finally paid off when I spoke to their representative Lucy. I found her to be courteous, knowledgeable, professional, and willing to listen to my past concerns. She was able to break down the wall that I had put up to protect myself from further heartache with wonderful news. SCE amended the 'cut-off year' and I am now eligible! An appointment was set for the following day (Tomorrow!). Redemption: If SCE was willing to give Maravilla a 2nd chance, then I was willing too. This time the experience was much better and a new fridge was delivered, as promised, the next day. The delivery men / installers were "pros" as well. In and out in less than 20 mins. Thank you guys! The Maravilla Foundation on Union Pacific offers excellent service. The receptionist who answers the phone is always very courteous. When you step in the office she buzzes you into the waiting room/lobby, and signs you in for you. They administer the state HEAP (the heating and energy assistance program) program in our area, which provides once a year help with your utilities, either your gas or electric bill. I came in yesterday and was in and out in half an hour with $350 assistance to my Southern California Edison bill. The assistance is paid directly to the utility, which is exactly the way it should be. The location is in an entirely industrial area, Maravilla Foundation is the only office on the block. There is no parking for clients, only for employees, so you need to park on the street, which usually is not a problem. read more

They were ok. They cancelled my appt the day before because they said no one was available. So I had to take another day off work for them to reschedule. Then they said they would call 30 mins ahead while they were on their way, but never called, so I wasn't ready or expecting them since they give a large "window" of several hours. So very grateful to everyone at the Maravilla foundation. My husband and I were already behind on our electric bill from LADWP when covid shut downs began happening in March due to an error with autopay. We were then hit with a massive bill and no way to pay it. The customer support rep with LADWP suggested I call Maravilla and see if they can help me. At first I started making calls and only got as far as a few voicemails- so I left messages- dozens of them. I understood that with the stay at home orders in place it was likely that no one was in the office. After a couple of weeks went by and I started receiving callbacks from my voicemails everyday. Was very impressed that they had assigned someone to every one of my messages. We were assigned to Ashely and she was truly so kind and helpful. I had sent over the wrong version of two forms and she politely called and explained what I had done and told me exactly how to fix it. She was great at communicating to me about next steps. We were approved for assistance and the money does take about 10 weeks to go towards our bill but we are so grateful for the help. I am extremely grateful to this wonderful foundation! Not only did they aid covering my entire electric bill (a bill that accumulated for 2.5 years without our knowledge because we never received a bill). This bill was dropped on us unexpectedly and was a huge burden and now this beautiful foundation has lifted this weight of my family's shoulders. Vanessa particularly was kind, understanding, quick and thorough. The entire process was simple. I didn't wait long after my appointment time and they had a cute play area, which my 3 year old enjoyed. I highly recommend speaking to this organization for your financial needs. My experience with Maravilla was disappointing. My LADWP bill was very high and had to disconnect my electricity in the apartment. I had tried to negotiate with them, but I would have to come up with the full amount. A representative from LADWP told me to call the Maravilla program. In the past, when I had problems with them I had called some of these programs, only to leave a message and never received a callback, or the receptionist transferred to one to voicemail, and still never received a callback. I even tried to get the council member, Nury Martinez, to help with situations. One of Council member's interns (I believe) had spoken to Michelle and told me to call her at the Maravilla Foundation. I had sent paperwork to their office (as well to The Honorable Martinez), regarding my situation. I really thought they could help me in this situation, though not a lot, but something that can lower the bill. To make a long story short, I was told that I do not qualify because of my income and my son's (who has a mental illness) general relief check was too much. They go by my gross income. I was upset because I was told there was nothing they can do to help. What angers me the most is the lack of funding and foundations there that deal with a monopoly organization like LADWP. From reading reviews people have made about Maravilla, I began to believe them being biased not just about race, but about one's income. read more
