I usually set a pretty low bar for restaurants out in the boonies, but this place was really good. Everything is clean and neat. Service could be a little more attentive, but that is my only criticism. I had a Chicken Fried Steak that was as good as I can remember (and I'm from Texas, I've eaten a lot of chicken fried steaks). The mashed potatoes were mashed on site and the accompanying veggies were good enough to stand on their own. The Dutch Apple pie was also outstanding, tasting like apples and not sugar and cinnamon. We arrived 10 minutes before closing, and the wait staff was friendly and efficient. They took our order with a smile, and brought out ice water and a butterscotch milkshake quickly. The milkshake was delicious, but could have been a bit colder (we were very hot and dehydrated so we were a bit biased towards wanting cooler drinks!). The pitcher of ice water was so nice. The Swiss Dip and Reuben were about $11 each and came with (decent but not incredible) fries. But the sandwiches- SO Amazing. Fresh and piping hot... The Reuben especially was on real marble rye with caraway seeds, was huge, and lacked nothing. An incredible meal for a long day. One of the best Reuben's I've had outside of an east coast deli. They also seem to make an effort to be environmentally friendly by using comparable napkins and encouraging doggie-bags for leftovers. :) read more

Writing this a little late, as the diner is now closed for the season unfortunately. But was in, in late October. This restaurant is family owned, mother daughter- ran and it shows. Nice waitress, clean cut, and friendly. She didn't hover around us but made sure we were given what we needed and had our drinks refilled almost immediately. Food came out hot and very quick, not much wait time after we placed our order. I got the french dip sandwich and garlic fries, while my friend got the chicken fried steak diner plate that came with mixed steamed veggies and mashed potatoes. First off the garlic fries are far better than you can get at ANY game (stadium) and had the perfect amount of flavor. As for my sandwich, it was exactly what I was looking for. the meat tender and the bread toasted to a satisfying crunch but not too tough. Could have used more au ju but when I asked for a tad more, the waitress quickly obliged. Friend said the chicken friend steak was exceptional and hit the spot just right. Been hiking in the Cascades for 5 years now & Marblemount Diner is THE ONLY place we will eat. Trust me, it's the best. The prices are great, they have fresh seafood & awesome fish and chips. The mushroom burger is incredible (but try them all) and they have LOTS of beer to choose from. Stay over somewhere so you can eat & have several beers...they let you watch whatever game you want on TV and everyone there is so cool. The locals hang out there and everyone knows everyone. Today was the first day Marblemount Diner opened for the season. I've had the pleasure of stopping by here for their delicious food, phenomenal service, and you can't forget their luscious home-made pies several times last year as I would drive through the pass for work! The aroma of their heart warming food in the air and the cordial welcome you get as you walk in the door is exceeded by none in Marblemount or anywhere near. This is a two and a half star rating. They have excellent pie, but the hamburger and the french dip I had on two separate trips was not good. I don't have high standards for a burger, so it's not like I'm some sort of snob. It was gross, bottom line. Beware! I ordered a French Dip, even though French Fries was the only side. I am used to a choice of salad or fries. I asked the waitress if I could have a side salad instead of fries. She said, yes, you sure can, or something like that. I got my food, and, using pressed deli beef, it was mediocre. The salad was average. When we got our check, she had charged me an additional $1.95 for the salad. I questioned it, and her response was that it is stated on the menu. She could have told me, and she should have waved it. I've only eaten here for lunch once so far, but I'll certainly be going back. First off, they serve pie so they're okay by me. Secondly, the variety of shake flavors they have? Ridiculous! In a good way of course. Some of the flavors make you wonder if they'd make a good shake, but I think it must be one of those things where you think its weird but once you try it you're hooked. I had the kaluha shake and it was fabulous. As far as food, I only had a french dip sandwich, which was fine, but next time I might try something more adventurous. I had dinner here on our car trek across North Cascades NP and back. Unfortunately there was no AT&T cell coverage in the area so Yelp reviews where not available for consultation beforehand. My wife and I shared the chicken fried steak dinner with an extra side salad. The food and service could not nave been better. There was only one young lady serving, but she was very friendly and was prompt to bring drinks, take our order and bring our salads and food. The salad was fresh mixed greens with the best blue cheese dressing and tomatoes I've had in a long time. The food came quickly and was killer. The CFS with mounds of homemade mashed potatoes was more than enough to share and would easily stand the test against most of those served in my home state of Texas. Fish and onion rings were totally overcooked and had an extremely disagreeable flavor. Could not eat fish or onion rings. Finished 1/2 the caeser and less than 1/2 of the milkshake.
