I've been w. Dr Schwartz for 20+ years. He's the best DDS I've had in 65+ yrs on this planet. VERY proficient at numbing you up with the topical gel before you get the novacaine by needle and I swear you never feel it! If your squeamish at all about this part, He's your guy.... Very proficient with everything he does whether its prep for a crown, doing a cavity filling or anything else, quite frankly. He is absolutely the best with everything he does. Has a pleasant easy going attitude... what's not to like? The Hygenists are very thorough and efficient. Front Office Staff are the most helpful/friendly responsive group of folks you could wish for. Over quarantine I accidentally fell off my bike and needed emergency dental help. The worst possible time to get hurt but Dr Schwartz and his staff were so kind. They did not freak out looking at my injuries which made me feel at ease choosing to go to him. He also told me of the time that he fell off his bike to ease the pain. Hands down one of the best dental practices ive ever been to. I moved here from Southern California and was way over due for a check up. Decided on this office after looking over some reviews online. When I called to make an appointment I was told they had open availablity the day of and I was able to come in with no problem. I have MetLife insurance through my employer and was able to get my inital x-rays, cleanings and cavities covered. Dr Schwartz informed me of 4 cavities I had and showed them to me on my x-rays. I booked 2 seperate appts that week because he said they dont like to numb the whole mouth and sitting in the chair for that long can be uncomfortable (how considerate!). I watched a quick video about crowns and fillings until I was fully numb and in general everything went very smoothly. Pros- Plenty of parking outside, they have what looks like new equipment/technology being used, clean office, prompt appointment times (no long waits in the lobby), online appt reminders, friendly and super knowledgable staff. Cons- Seems pretty pricey. All the work I had done would have set me back a little over a grand without my insurance. That being said, the area is expensive to live in so i'm sure other dentists cost just as much if not the same. This is probably more of a con for those without insurance. Overall- Dr Schwartz knows what he's doing! theres no BS. He takes his time with you, addresses any concerns before, during and after an appt. You really do get what you pay for and then some. Dr Schwartz is a travel agent of dental work... but ... I get ahead of myself. From walking into the office, you think - eh, another neighborhood office. 3 stars. Then Dr. Marc shows up, and you think - whoa, nelly! has he graduated yet? Well, the handshake is firm and he has a kind smile, so far so good. You start of by signing a ton of waiver forms (red flag) but all of them seem to say one thing "I, the patient, will agree with treatment suggested by the good doctor"... .hmmmm, okay.... After you've signed away your own opinion in blood and tears, you get a dental exam followed by a sit-down with the good doctor in his private office. Here's where the state-of-the-art comes in. You get to look at your teeth, one by one, on a computer screen while the good doctor points at everyting that's wrong with them. Okay - this part is impressive, he just might get upgraded to 5 stars. The show is shortly followed by a review of all the forms you signed (see above), another firm handshake (see above) and a warm assurance that he'll treat you like he would his brother (does he have a brother? does he like his brother?). then the moment of truth. The printer whirrs and purrs and spits out a treatment plan. First off all - it's overpriced. But, ok, with the state of technology, etc etc, may be it's worth it. Second of all, all work HAS TO BE COMPLETED IMMEDIATELY. IT"S A PACKAGE, he says. aha... it's also $10K..... Well, doctor, please realize that this is not an amount I can afford to spend right now. Can we stagger the cavities, etc over a year period, at least? NO. IT"S A PACKAGE. (confused puppy look).... so, doctor, you are saying that if i stay on as your patient, i have to dish out my peanuts and the pants off my ass because you only work in PACKAGES. Yes. He gets your mouth to a point where it'll only have to be maintained. Yippie. now i feel like a database (sorry, professional humor). Anyway. I didn't have $10K. My insurance covers $1,500. Good doctor doesn't offer financing. Good doctor refuses to prioritize treatment. Good doctor must hate his brother. read more

Doc Schwartz is pricey and he does try to push additional treatments on you, but it's your teeth that he cares about. If you got the insurance and the means then get your teeth fixed. If not then try another dentist. I got a bunch of things done at his office and have never had my teeth as healthy as they are now. His staff is friendly and they remember things about you that aren't teeth related. Doc is strictly business and to the point. He does not try to hid anything, he tells it like it is and that is refreshing. read more

I just started going to Dr. Schwartz. I was looking for a new dentist because my old doc was disorganized, slow and frequently painful. My experience so far has been terrific. I had an initial exam and loved the ability to see not only x-rays but actual pictures showing the problems (I knew I had a few since I'd neglected my teeth for a few years). Yesterday I got a few fillings replaced that were decaying/failing. Despite working all the way in the back of my mouth, I was surprised that I experienced no pain and also none of the usual annoyance of drill shavings flying all over my mouth. His assistant is great and he is very attentive. I'm back next week to take care of one or two issues on the other side of my mouth, then I should be good for a while. Thanks Dr. Schwartz. Disclaimer: I chose Dr. Schwartz in part because his kids attend school with my kids. However, I would not have hesitated to write a bad review despite this "personal" relationship. We have come to Dr Schwarz for over a decade, and he still has all our records and checks when we have work done.- now that i am a senior, my teeth demand even more work ( crowns and gums )- and i am so glad to have a dentist I can trust, who does great work and it is efficient and pain free.- the staff works harmoniously and makes me always feel very welcome and well cared for - i definitely would recommend Dr. Schwarz's office.- i also enjoy Dr. Schwarz's friendly, positive chatts, about family vacations and sports. read more

I found Dr Schwartz about 6 years ago I think. Dont laugh 1-800-Denist. I wanted a dentist who would be patient with someone who feared dentists and hadnt been to one in years. It was an emergency on top of it. All those silver fillings in my teeth were giving away. I found out from Dr Schwartz that silver expands and restracts with hot and cold. So...all that activity it broke my tooth apart. I would have continued to have that problem if I had not had Dr Schwartz remove them all and replace them with porcelain fillings. They matched it to my teeth perfectly...cant even tell. Coming from someone who feared dentists...Dr Schwartz is the best dentist I have ever had. His philosphy is to care for your dental work to reduce your time in the dentist chair. read more

Simply the best. Dr. Schwartz has been my dentist over 15 years and I wouldn't consider going anywhere else. He is an exceptional dentist and a complete perfectionist (a good thing for a dentist). As a nice bonus, he's a really nice guy and really cares about his patients. The work he has done is quality work: comfortable, attractive, and built to last. I even make the 45 minute commute just to keep him as my dentist. Caroline, the dental hygienist, does an incredible job with the cleanings. She is friendly and amazingly thorough (sometimes I feel like a kid being told spots I miss with daily care - but that's her job). The front office staff is always welcoming and organized. As always, my appointment was great! Upon arriving, I was warmly greated, only waited a couple of minutes as they prepared the room, and was then invited in to begin the cleaning process. The hygienist, again as always, was upbeat, friendly, and engaging in conversation. She proceeded her duties with utmost confidence. Upon finishing, she detailed her findings and then closed with asking the Dr. to come in and provide his exam and assessment. He did with a willing and friendly manner. Then, after the usual debrief, was escorted to the receptionist to schedule for my next exam. It is always a pleasure visiting this office and engaging with the staff. My family had been going to Dr Schwartz for a while, and i use to really like this place when the old receptionist was there (the one before this new one) My dad had probably spent thousands and thousands on this doctor for my mom when she was drying to get her dentures right, Probably enough money to send his kids to college. I should have realized he over charged by the looks of my moms bills. When my mom died last year i decided i needed a dentist so i went to them since i heard he was nice. Well he is nice and so was the receptionist at the time, only problem is he would just do fillings on me and not give me treatment plan like i asked for. I noticed he would spend an hour in the same spot. When i got the bill it was for like 4 fillings!! I had used my entire yearly dental insurance on an hour visit for what i thought would be one filling!! The next think you know the tooth that he filled had become so sore and i realized all of a sudden it needed a root canal and crown, and it was infected! hmm... I got the root canal and there went my new entire years money for my dental insurance.. He charges a lot to do anything, a lot of places never charge this much and when you tell him this he claims this is what your insurance told me to charge you..oh ok. Anyways so i got his over prices root canal and had to put a cap in till i got back from a long trip i went on. I come back from my out of country trip to find a new secretary named Dawn had left me a million voice messages saying i owe them 1500 for a crown and that i need to come in for the actual crown. I see 2 bills in my mail and they all said late charge and missed appointment. I had told all of them in that office where i was going and when i was coming back. Anyways i called them back in response to her 6 voice mails she sent me ( she sure is a determined one for money) I finally went in and got the crown on that looked like a tiny white piece of corn in my mouth.. doesn't even match my teeth!!! This ugly crown was1500!! wow. The determined secretary calls me about 30 more times almost every day and week to get the money i owed them, She said she would give me a discout of 400 if i payed up front but when i did some research to what i really owed she needed to knock of 600.. So i finally payed after Dawn called me a million times. What really bugs me is that they were going to try and get away with charging me the whole amount.. They must have done this to me in past and other people to.. My advice is Find a cheaper dentist, I have one crown, and only 4 fillings and one of them on my front tooth completely chipped. After I had been seeing Dr Schwartz for years my husband came in for the first time and got estimates and a breakdown of the work he needed and the word "package" was never mentioned. Dr Schwartz even reviewed our insurance plan and told us how to make up the work schedule to get everything done over the course of a couple years, just to make sure we didn't have to spend any more money out of pocket than we had to. His office does this with me every time I need a cleaning and lets me know when my insurance is spent. Anyway, the staff remembers my name and has responded to every concern I have ever had immediately and respectfully. I would and have recommeded this dentist. read more

Dr. Schwartz has been my personal dentist for 3+ years. I would recommend him to anyone. He's extremely thorough, careful, and sensitive. The only "unnecessary" treatment he has recommended for me is veneers for my chipped/capped front teeth that need to be fixed. I only say "unnecessary" because they only need to be fixed for cosmetic reasons. I have had 2 root canals, fillings, and a wisdom tooth extraction. All of which were necessary. The extraction was amazing - painless, quick, and complication free!! read more

This is an ovedue review since I had switched to a different office more than a year ago, but since going to the doctor/dentist has serious effects on our teeth, health, comfort and money these reviews must be written. My initial encounter with Dr. Schwartz was positive, he seemed to be personable, thorough and informative. The exam and cleaning went well. I had some trouble with a very extensive treatment plan, which included several crowns and replacing numerous fillings (this plan was later dismissed by another dentist). At next appt Dr. Schwartz was replacing my filling, he was very rough, kept banging instrument against my front teeth, pulled my chick so hard that he ripped the corner of my mouth, and rushed if the office was on fire. I did not feel comfortable correcting doctor in front of his assistant. But I did talk to the doctor right after and told him how I felt. Doctor did apologize, but I chose to search for another provider. read more

I went to Dr Schwartz for about a year. He isn't the most personable guy ever and he tried to push additional treatments on me but you can't blame him for trying. After my fair share of dentists, I'd have to say Dr. Schwartz knows his stuff and his equipment was top notch. I've never had anyone measure the gaps between my gums and teeth with EVERY tooth and tell me where I need to brush a little more. I've come to realize lately that there are two types of patients. Patients who'd rather hear things are all fine until things are actually really bad and patients who'd rather know every little detail and nothing is left in the dark. I first consulted Dr. Schwartz just over two years ago, when I could not ignore a serious abscess at the base of one of my upper front teeth any longer. I had not seen a dentist for over 15 years (not for financial reasons... but not for any other good reason either!) and expected to be scolded--loudly. But he listened patiently while I rattled on nervously, and then suggested we start with where were now. He didn't flinch when we reviewed the xrays together, but even my unpracticed eye could tell that it wasn't good. He and his staff helped me through an initial root canal, and then a referral procedure by an endodontic specialist (which included a stem cell graft) to address the severe bone loss around the root. Dr. Schwartz was unfailingly positive and optimistic throughout this time, even though I fully expected to lose the tooth. A year later, xrays revealed optimal bone remodeling around the root with no trace of infection. Needless to say, I am very grateful to my dentist, the technology, and the fact that this tooth is firmly intact. Dr. Schwartz has been my dentist ever since, and has helped me resolve a number of less dramatic dental issues -- always affordably, and within my own time frame. I appreciate his resident hygienist, and her thorough and painless cleanings. The entire staff is very personable and welcoming, and help make my visits to the dentist just as pleasant as possible. read more

I HATE DENTIST!!!! In the past I usually went once or twice and then found a new one or didn't go for long periods of time. However with Dr. Schwartz, I go for my cleanings on time and happy. Marc is great, we always talk and laugh which really puts me at ease. Of course the Nitrous helps as well. And as everyone says, his office is state of the art! Including the staff. Now my son, who is disabled is also a patient. He's even more difficult to deal with than me. But Marc and his staff are patient and kind and were able to help him as well. He had been living in San Diego and his last visit to a dentist had been several years before and his father took him for cleaning or any type of work. In the last year Marc and his staff have gotten his teeth and gums healthy again. We still have work to do, but he was so proud of his last visit. I've been seeing Marc for at least 3-4 years now. Which is a record for me, and now my son likes him too, which makes it much easier for me. And THAT is very important. THANK YOU MARC! read more

As a senior with regular dental visit to many dental offices in different countries, Dr. Schwartz's office is by far the most well equipped with advanced instrumentation and computerized record of each tooth (gum conditions, crowns, fillings etc). Staff are courteous and competent. Dr. Schwartz is friendly, knowledgeable and taking good care of your teeth as well as your well being. A couple of years ago I suddenly broke a tooth that turned out to be the result of clenching at night. Dr. Schwartz fixed the broken tooth and it has held up perfectly over the years. Ever since then I have been going to him for all my cleanings and dental checkups and have had no problems. His office is very well-equipped including digital x-rays, which are nice because they give instant results with less radiation exposure. I used the Yelp deal for my last cleaning and saved $25! read more

Dr Shwartz is a good dentist as he is very sensitive to a patient's needs/pain, etc BUT the entire office just seems out to make money. You have to be very careful of what you will be charged at the end; they will not tell you up front that something they offer may cost you extra (and how much). They usually charge above the 'acceptable' limits that insurances have and you have to work with the office to ensure that they charge that acceptable limit & tell them that wouldn't be paying anything out of pocket. In the end, it just makes me feel like i cannot trust the services recommended as i cannot decipher if there is a true need or not. Additionally, the hygienist on staff is not the best either. All this 'pricey/out to make $$' experience is just too bad- as Dr Schwartz is a skilled dentist himself... read more

I was a patient for nearly 20 years. I always received excellent treatment not only by Dr Schwartz but his staff as well. However, I was disappointed when given several choices of treatment by a comment Dr Schwartz made to me when I choose the treatment that he was not fond of. I felt I would not receive the support I needed if I went with my decision. I decided I would seek out a dentist that would be supportive of my decision even if it differ from his. I cancelled my follow up appointment and I was surprised after being such a long time patient I did not hear back from him or his office as to why. I disagree with Brooke below. First of all, Dr. S. will help you figure out how to finance your treatment if you cannot afford it. I know this firsthand, as I was laid off and continued my treatment for quite awhile. Yes, we are making payments to Care Credit. But, my teeth are healthier than before. Am I good with dentists? No, in fact I used to hate to go to the dentist. But, this office is comfortable, the people are kind and thanks to some patience and nitrous, I am able to sit still for quite awhile without fear of passing out:) I have had a lot of work. It was all necessary. When one of the front office staff pressured me into a deep cleaning, I told them I was uncomfortable with the pressure and they never did it again. Yes, they put together a treatment plan, but I know first hand that you don't have to do it all at once. You can take your time. Yes, they work out a price but, if you can't afford it all today you can spread it out over time. I have work yet to be done that we discussed last year. I am still out of work so, I will get my teeth cleaned soon but, I can't promise much more right now. However, I did have a few crowns, as well as a tooth removal and more. Dr. Schwartz is awesome. Dr Schwartz, socially awkward yes, but in a charming way. My hubs and I have fun trying to pry little irrelevant personal facts out of him. He's a tough nut to crack - lol! I haven't found him to be expensive, but that's subjective. Regardless, I went to a super crappy dentist (Belmont Dental or something like that) just prior to meeting him and feel like having good dental care is super important. Who wants to think about their teeth - ever? His high tech digital imaging stuff is cool... good to see what/why treatments are needed/recommended. But (In response to other reviews) if you have a voice, you can just say no thanks, or I'll have to put that off for a minute, or a year or whatever is necessary for your situation. I've never felt pressured by him ever. We had a short laundry list and we've been addressing them one by one, letting each treatment fully recover before moving on. Dr. Marc's work is done quickly and accurately and with very little discomfort. He does recommend additional treatments because he believes in preventative care. I have been seeing him for 7 years and have never had a bad experience. The office staff is friendly and knowledgeable. The equipment is top of the line, which may a account for a slightly more expensive visit, but I found it comparable to my previous dentist. I don't dread going to the dentist anymore which, in my opinion, is priceless. read more

Great, as always. Dr. Schwartz and his team are low key, compassionate, friendly and most important, highly skilled. I've had a lot of repair work done to aging fillings, crowns, bridges, etc. Yes, it's expensive, but par for California. Dr. Schwartz has the latest technology in his office, and he and his staff use it well to educate you on both what they are doing in your mouth and what you yourself should be doing to keep your teeth in good shape. His hygienist Carolyn is an angel---always engages in conversation and remembers personal bits you've shared with her about your life and family. I've found Dr. Schwartz to be perhaps a little shy, but very pleasant and compassionate---even funny at times! I, too, got his name from 1-800-DENTIST, looking for a practice to deal with my real fear of dentists when I moved to California about 5 years ago. I've had no negative experiences with him or his team. I might also add that I'm retired with no dental insurance, and Dr. Schwartz has been very helpful with assisting me in managing my care in a way I can afford. Thumbs up! read more
