Highly recommend this place. Very romantic and date-y. We ate a late Anniversary dinner at 8:30...we were sat immediately. It's small so call a few days ahead for reservations. We couldn't get a reservation so that's why we went late to avoid a long wait. We ordered the Chicken Parmesan and eggplant Parmesan. Both were excellent! Large wine selection, you go pick your bottle from the wall and/or chiller. Very cool. My only complaint is they don't have really good bread, but that's not enough reason to dock it a whole star. :) read more

Very disappointed in the pasta e fagioli, which was the soup of the day. Should have called it carrot & garbanzo soup. I expect white beans like cannellini beans or fava beans. It was a thin broth soup which was also disappointing. It should be thicker. Short rib entree was good. The Caponata should have had the eggplant in smaller pieces. Enjoyed the atmosphere but that was about it. Small Family Restaurant in old Home. We Were able to be seated right away which was a positive. Waiter came immediately with water and asked about our wine selection. We ordered salads and I, an appetizer, my friend the mahimahi special. The wine was delivered in due time. Pretty good gouse selection. The salads took an hour to be served! . The restaurant wasnt even full. They did have an 8 top in the back room, maybe that upset the kitchen? Salads were smallish for a $12 side salad. The eggplant and crabmeat appetizer was bland. Two eggplant medallions with small amount of crab in a SAUCE $23. For that, should have been just lump white crabmeat, why disguise the best part. The mahimahi was a decent strip cooked Well, but ontop of burnt radish and asparagus. They must have been out of bread.. we received two toasted pieces of french bread. Everyone was looking around to see who was getting served. NOT WORTH THE $160 price tag. Marcelo's was excellent. If it is on the menu we order calamari wherever we dine the first time. We have compared calamari all over the country. Marcello's calamari was in the top ten. The park cheeks were delicious and the veal was terrific. We enjoyed the ambiance and the service. read more

Great food in a casual, but VERY nice atmosphere. Not stuffy or uptight in ANY way. You can dress nicely or wear jeans, and THOSE are the kinds of places I like to give my business too- white tablecloths, fine dining quality service, without all of the fuss you get with other restaurants of that caliber. This, in my opinion- is what I consider to be "Southern" Italian- featuring classic dishes like lasagna and of course all of the Parmesan's. I'd even argue that their tomato sauce is on par with the kind your momma makes! If she's from the south, that is. The only complaint I think I have, if I HAD to name ONE, would be that they don't make their pasta in house- BUT- that being said- with todays "worker shortage world" we live in, I think that it's worth giving them a pass. Maybe someday when things return to normal, they'll consider making pasta in house. I also love that instead of the fuss of a wine list, where some may feel the pressure to purchase a higher end wine to "impress" a date or clients at a business dinner, they let you just go grab the bottle straight from the rack where prices are labeled on the bottles. I think this is an awesome concept, as the price of a bottle of wine does NOT mean it's any better than cheaper alternatives. They have a range of prices per bottle, so if you feel like splurging, by all means, do your thing! My point is that you don't have too! They carry Caymus (my favorite) and other bottles related to their vineyards such as the Conundrum and Bonanza (both excellent choices- but just another personal opinion.) If Caymus wines aren't your jam, don't worry- they've got many others to choose from. I've eaten here twice in the last month and I was pleased with BOTH meals concerning consistency & service. They have a really pleasant staff that seems happy to be there. (THIS MATTERS SOOO MUCH!) I'm thrilled to have a wonderful new restaurant in Downtown, especially since we've just lost Oxlot 9. Del Porto just doesn't cut it for me, but I know many that love it, so I'm certainly not meaning to dog them in any way. Oh! And they EVEN RETURN YOUR CALLS!! I spent almost two straight weeks calling Sal & Judy's (which I dearly love) and I guess they have enough business as they don't seem very concerned about answering. And without open table, well- what can ya do? Marcello's didn't initially answer, so I left a voicemail. After two weeks trying to get into Sal & Judy's, I was almost shocked that Marcello's called me back within the hour to set up a reservation. A+ guys. I can't recommend this local gem enough & I hope they're here to stay!! Thanks so much to the owners and staff for the two lovely evenings I've spent at your establishment. My wife and I gave Marcello's a try and we were not disappointed! We had the Eggplant Parmigiana and the veal parmigiana, which were really good! The veal was tender enough to cut with a fork, no knife needed! Generous servings too. Love the wine set up and the ability to pick out your own wine. Service was good, the place was packed. It was very loud inside, which would be the only hang up if you're looking for a quiet dinner. We loved the energy of the place and we will definitely be back! read more

This very pleasant Italian restaurant offers flavorful dishes and an ample wine selection. Service is friendly with typical local flare. We had lasagna which is very meaty and has a slightly sweet red sauce. We also tried eggplant parmesan which had a nice slight crunch to the breading and was perfectly cooked. Their wine offerings are by the glass or self selecting bottle from a wide array of wine racks along one dining room wall. Bottles are very reasonably priced but it helps to have knowledge of varietals you prefer. The seasoned toasty Italian bread served with dinner should not be passed up. read more

Hostess was texting all night, and manager sat at the bar watching tv. What a hidden gem! We probably pass this place at least once per day and have never tried it. We decided on a whim to stop in and boy am I glad we did. I was a little worried when we walked in and they asked if we had a reservation, which we didn't, but they were able to accommodate us. I had my first meal, here, in the past couple of months and need to go back and write a recommendation. The food was outstanding in both presentation and execution. I had the Pork Cheek Marsala and the leftovers didn't even make it to the refrigerator, when I got home. The drinks were creative and paired well with the meal. This was partly due to a group of at least 10 that were having a party. Probably nothing that could've been done about that except put them in their own room! Excellent food, and a great server (Daniel).....It is worth the drive from Metairie. We went for happy hour and we weren't disappointed. Our appetizers were crab contessa and polpettini. We split a mista salad and Daniel put them on 2 separate dishes since we were sharing it...nice touch. The shrimp pepate was delicious, as was my husband's veal palermo. We had cheesecake for dessert, and it was very light. Leftovers were boxed away from the table which I think is another nice touch....we will definitely return. read more

I've been remiss in rating Marcello's. I've thoroughly enjoyed several meals now. Humble, appreciative management and staff, fresh, solid staples and easy menu and wine rack selection. So very happy to have Marcello's move into the downtown Covington area. Veal Parmesan was the best I've ever had - twice - and this is a GoToMeeting item whenever offered. Charming changes made from earlier restaurant iterations at this location. Hoping all will come to appreciate it and its 3-minute stroll from the So Hotel.
