Very happy I decided to train at this school! Marcelo is a wealth of knowledge. He has taken my jujitsu to anther level. He is very generous with his knowledge. He takes time to show everyone how to make the techniques work for there body types. I feel that I am always having aww haa moments. He also has a great sense of humor and the atmosphere is light and fun. Aside from Marcelo himself the rest of the staff is very knowledgeable fun and welcoming. I am happy to be a part of this team and to have made so many great friends. I can't say enough good things about this place. It has been great having the brand new facility as well. The workout is second to none. I have had my 14 year old now 16 year old boy training here for the last 2 years and the experience has been priceless. The change it has manifested in his life is truly remarkable, confidence, strength, discipline, hardworking, and social skills to boot. Marcelo and the rest of the team have taken him under there wing. These people are the salt of the earth. If you live in the area and are interested in martial arts you should definitely check this place out.

I have been training with Marcelo and James Gilmore for about 2 years now. I have practiced martial arts of all kinds since I was 5 years old and by far I have learned the most in these 2 last years. Thank you for all your teachings.

I found this place while looking for kickboxing and was happy to learn they also offer Muay Thai classes as well. This is one of the only places that gives you boxing gloves when you sign up for a kickboxing package - I've been to other kickboxing places around Seattle and have always had to borrow their old stinky gloves. It was nice to get a new pair to keep and bring to future classes. I wasn't sure what to expect upon my first class but the instructors were all very helpful and friendly. I didn't feel uncomfortable at all during the hour long class. Don't be fooled into thinking a beginner class will be easy! I was sore for 3 days after my first class - they really work your whole body!

The AMA Bryant location is just behind University Village and has a good amount of parking spots if you plan on driving. It's more on the intimate side, with a lobby, two workout rooms, two bathrooms, and some storage/office spaces. Try wearing flip-flops if you come because you'll be barefoot and the mats are a tad sweaty and grimey. Now... I cannot say enough good things about the staff here! I usually take classes with Lauren on the evenings and she is just 100% badass. Srsly, she looks like someone straight out of a video game. Support staff like Anna and the receptionist who works Thursday nights (bummed I can't remember her name) are so, so friendly and really take the time to help you get situated and working on the right moves: jabs, hooks, kicks, and combos. These guys are so fun and they always play good music to get everyone pumped. My only wish is for there to be some more consistency and bag-stand time in how the hour-class is structured but, regardless, it's still a great workout every time I go. While I don't expect to be a sucker punching vigilante by the end of my five classes, I'm certainly leaving with a greater awareness of how to move my body so that I can be my strongest self.

What stood out the most was the atmosphere. Everyone was genuinely friendly, and the coaches made it a point to come up, introduce themselves, and welcome me in. That kind of culture says a lot about a gym. The owners were just as welcoming--it felt less like being a visitor and more like being part of the team for the day. I got some really good rounds in with a variety of training partners, and everyone was respectful and technical. If I lived in Seattle, this is definitely a place I'd train at regularly. - Jesus from San Diego!!

I've been attending Seattle CRT classes for a few months now and plan on attending for a long time…read moreat this rate. Seattle CRT focuses on tactics for real-world altercations (rather than in sports, where there are rules, weight classes, organized starts, etc.). Things I've already learned include how to manage distance with possible attackers; how to throw many types of punches, kicks, and knees (and how to combine them into combinations); how to be offensive and defensive at the same time; how to incorporate weapons (in ways that also complement attacking without weapons); the different attack timings; how to use the same attack across multiple distances; and even some initial grappling (again, this is just after a few months). A lot of the most useful lessons are front-loaded to get you set up as soon as possible. For example, they make sure your footwork, punching, and kicking basics are solid before moving onto the more nuanced, complicated material. Cory is always happy to answer questions and share his experience and takes on the different approaches. He will show you how different variations cater better or worse to "Real world" situations (vs. sports, etc.). You can tell he also cares about his students, wants to make sure we learn the right and safe ways of doing things, and knows how to crack a joke every now and then to lighten up some serious topics. I personally like the hybrid approach where the best aspects of several different arts are combined: the Wing Chun offensive approach to defense is merged with the versatile and weapon-friendly Filipino boxing punches and powerful Muay Thai kickboxing attacks. It might not be for everybody (if you want a more sport-oriented training, for example), but Seattle CRT is exactly what I was looking for and I'm a very happy student.
