I found Marella through Yelp to help me take my maternity photos a month ago so it is only fitting I write her a review on Yelp after my experience! I was looking for someone who was reasonably priced and fun/reliable to work with while we were on our babymoon in Oahu. Enter Marella. She was super fast and responsive to my emails, sending me price packages and suggestions of where I could take photos based on where I was staying in Oahu. Since Marella herself is based in North Shore and there is a travel fee for her to go farther out, she mentioned to me a few of her associates and where they could take pictures with no travel costs. At first I was considering taking photos in Kailua or Lanikai since I love the aqua blue of the waters there, but Marella ended up giving me more recommendations of where we could go that was closer to our side of the island. We ended up going with her associate Michelle after looking through sample galleries of her associates' work and based on the pictures I liked from Michelle's gallery, Marella made more recommendations of where to go and what time of day to get the effect I wanted. She was never pushy for me to commit and offered me plenty of suggestions even before I booked her associate! Booking an associate is slightly cheaper than booking Marella, but she still does all the coordinating and the editing. The day before the shoot I texted Michelle to check in and made sure we were meeting at the agreed upon spot. Michelle actually wanted to meet further down the beach so it was a good thing I did check in! We had a lot of fun with her and felt very at ease during our photo session! She ended up taking a little longer than an hour because we were having fun and she had some ideas she wanted to try and we never felt rushed. Michelle would also adjust my hair or if anything looked kind of out of place and coach us when she needed to get the right angles to show off the bump. She was very professional and fun to work with and helped us incorporate a few props and specific photos I wanted! After the session, Marella did check in with us to see how it went and told us she would keep us posted on the edits. What I thought was pretty nice about her package was that with the associate package, we got to pick out 30 from our fully edited gallery, or pay an additional amount per photo, or buy the whole gallery for another $100. I think because Marella edits the whole gallery for you to choose from, her post production time ends up being longer than some other photographers. She originally said 4-5 weeks but because I was having a baby shower sooner that I wanted to use some of the photos at, she managed to get me the gallery at 3 weeks. We bought the entire gallery for the extra $100 and got almost 150 photos!! It was totally worth the extra money since I liked almost all the photos! I really appreciated her trying to figure out what I wanted as a client and being flexible to fit that. I wouldn't mind using her and her associates again in the future if I were in Oahu and needed a photo session. And I found her prices very reasonable and her work to be reliable and professional! A few of my friends who are from Hawaii even asked me to tell them more about the photographer because they liked the photos :) Thank you Marella!! read more

We contacted Marella after a quick google search to take family pictures for us on our recent trip to Hawaii. Her communication was excellent, especially with the 6 hour time difference from us in Orlando. We left it to her to pick a spot and we are very happy with what she picked. We have beach pictures, water pictures, and even some in the field. Marella came highly recommended from friends of mine who had used her as a wedding photographer and I was 100% onboard to work with her from the get go! I loved the way that she composed our shots - she was always looking around the environment for diverse and interesting ways to capture us. We got married on Waimanalo beach on New Year's Eve, so there was obviously a TON of beautiful light and atmosphere for her to play with. Last summer my family (5 year old and 7 year old) took a vacation to Oahu. I wanted to get our family photos taken while we were there, so I scoured the internet looking up every photographer I could find on Oahu. I'm a family photographer myself, so I had pretty high standards and a distinct look I wanted - natural colors, well exposed, no crazy photoshop shenanigans, and images on cd. It was not easy, but Marella's style was just what I was looking for and her price was very reasonable. We talked through email and set up a time to meet and picked a meeting location on the North Shore where she's based. We started at Matsumoto's Market for some shave ice pics and then Marella mentioned a spot she saw was great flowers off the road wanted to shoot at. Of course I loved that! We then followed her to the next spot with a great green mountain in the background (did outfit change off the side of the road) and then we headed to the beach for sunset. I have to say some of our favorite pics were after our session was over. Mirella had packed up her gear and was getting ready to leave when my 5 year old daughter decided to start a family water fight in the outdoor shower area at the beach. In our clothes we all started splashing each other as the water came out of the showers. It was getting pretty dark at this point, but Marella pulled her camera back out and her assistant pulled out a flash and the two of whipped up some cool backlit photos. Soon after our vacation was over and we were getting back into our CA schedule again, a cd arrived with a ton of edited images. Marella was a pleasure in person - professional and friendly. Marella did our photography for our wedding in a park. We found her online, and I loved the pictures on her website. Three really great things: 1. Great communication, even when we're 5 time zones apart. We live in Chicago, so ALL our communication was virtual. She was really great about emailing, flexible about phone calls, and made me feel really comfortable, even though we didn't meet her until I was actually putting on my wedding dress. 2. Her pictures were beautiful and captured exactly what we wanted. I sent her a few pictures of us ahead of time (some of my favorite candid shots), and told her a bit about our personalities. Marella is such an amazing photographer. We were in HI for a short family/work vacation and I have always wanted to do a family photo session in the beautiful island. Especially this time around we were expecting our second child so it was just extra special. I found Marella on Yelp and she was nothing but the best. First Marella was very prompt and detailed when I contacted her via email. Super responsive and flexible! We booked our first family photos for 2 weeks after the birth of our son. Marella had a list of folks that specialized in different types of photography and locations around Oahu and we ended up using her at a botanical garden. She was even flexible on the final date based on crazy weather that rolled in and out. The photos were absolutely stunning with plenty of self-selected poses and creative input from her as well. Marella is awesome! She did my family photos during our stay at Aulani in May. I found her online through Yelp. Prior to meeting, all correspondence were via email. She is very responsive and answered all my questions. Her contract is detailed so there were no surprises. She uses PayPal to accept payments and DropBox to deliver photos for download. A very smooth transaction and delivery. At the time of the shoot, my three year old daughter was jumping all over the place. I feared she was not able to get any good shots of her. But when we received the photos, we were amazed that she was able to captured beautiful movements of my family enjoying the sunset on the island especially my daughter. She is truly an artist. Marella took our family photos just this past August while we vacationed on Oahu. After doing some extensive research on-line I fell in love with her amazing photographs and style and decided to contact her. She quickly responded and we set up a date and time. Once on Oahu I had picked out the place I wanted the pictures taken but an endangered Monk Seal had taken residence at the same beach and the beach was closed. Marella was very accommodating and open to make a location change or day change last minute if necessary. Luckily, the Monk Seal left a few hours before our photo session so we were able to use our preferred spot. Marella arrived right on-time and couldn't be more professional yet personable. She was patient with our six-year-old and three-year-old daughters and took many beautiful family portraits as well as some great ones of me and my husband. The lighting and colors were amazing. Her style is a perfect combination of classic yet artistic with excellent composition . Since returning home to CA I've followed some of her photography on FB because I love her photographs so much. We wanted to take beach themed family photos prior to leaving Oahu. I looked online for several days before reaching out to four photographers. They all responded timely and provided me with a link for samples of their work. Though they all were "professionals" the difference in quality was overwhelming. So we easily decided to attempt to book with Marella. The booking process was simple and she responded with the price and available dates. The weather forecast was ever changing leading up to the date so we stayed in contact to ensure there was an alternate date if the weather went south. The day came and the weather was perfect. Marella was able to work with us and our extremely temperamental 11 month old. She knew the location very well and selected multiple scenic areas for us to use. It seemed like she a million photos. We were very concerned about how the photos would turn out because our 11 month old was only being cooperative for seconds at a time. At the completion of the shoot she told me the estimated wait time to be able to view the photos. Once we received the link we were amazed. The photos came out awesome. She was able to capture so much more then we could imagine. The photos are extremely high resolution so they are perfect for printing to large canvas. When we finally meet at the site, she was a lovely person. Professional yet easy going. Happy and sweet. One who loves her profession and takes pride in her work. Once she starts a shoot, she is 100% committed. She was not rushed. As the sun was setting, she said we will just keep shooting because "the lighting will only get better." Since I didn't know the area, she recommended a site that turned out to be amazing. There are 7 member in our family. Beyond words... AMAZING!!! I could not think of a more perfect way to celebrate our 10th wedding anniversary than our family portrait session at secret beach with Marella. As we were married on the big island of Hawaii, we planned a return vacation with our children. All I asked my husband for was the gift of family portraits during our stay at Aulani.
