The best part about Embellish is its staff. They are amazing at being exactly as involved as you desire. If you just want to browse, they leave you alone. If you want something specific, they are totally involved experts. I saw a necklace there that I kinda-sorta liked, but didn't love. My husband went back to Embellish, described what I liked and didn't like, and was shown the perfect alternate piece that I now wear all the time. When I wanted an extra-large winter hat, the woman behind the counter gathered every hat she could find to help me out. What wonderful people! I can't quite give five stars because I feel the item quality heavily varies. My necklace was super-nice and perfectly-priced. An opal ring I purchased at Embellish, however, was tarnished beyond recognition within a week. It was so sad to see such a beautiful thing deteriorate like kids' play jewelry. I also wish they had a wider selection of non-jewelry accessories, like clutches and sunglasses. A fabulous new addition to the neighborhood for the following reasons EXCELLENT MERCHANDISE - There's much more here for women than for men (with a few exceptions in the back), but the selection was collected with a good eye for taste. Some pieces seem pieces of art than jewelery... not an easy thing to pull off in our modern world of mass production SOCIALLY CONSCIOUS - Plenty of fair trade items to be had, right along side goods created from recycled materials. THE OWNER'S TOUCH - You aren't buying from an employee, you're buying from the owner. Its so obvious from the shopping experience that she's been over every detail with a fine tooth comb. She knows everything about each of her pieces, right down to the personalities of the designers and fabricators. APPROACHABLE - Much like their friends across the street at Stellar26, you can easily be on a first name basis with the owner in just one visit. The accessories here are super pretty, feminine and mostly delicate-looking pieces. The girl behind the counter was very sweet. While I was browsing, she asked me, "is it okay if I make a phone call?" I was so caught offguard, of course it is okay! It was a business-related call, but I still thought it was super classy of her to ask me. I tried on a pretty sterling silver ring, with a very "artisan crafted" look hammered into flower petals. At $62, I wasn't quite ready to splurge on the ring. These are not cheap, mass produced accessories that you would find at Charming Charlie's. There is a unique artistry to everything. Embellish is definitely a spot to buy that one indulgence item for yourself or a special gift for a mom, sister, or friend. It's not that I like the shop any less now. I am a loyal and frequent customer of Embellish. As such, I receive their rare email. One came recently announcing the One Year Anniversary of the shop. Congrats!! The email stated that they were having a gathering on Saturday with bubbly, snacks, and a 15% discount on all purchases. I get a ton of emails, so of course I forgot. I came in the day before the event with my mother. (I bring in all my friends and family members.) We browsed the store for quite some time. When we went to checkout, no mention of the next day's event. It makes me sad because I am such a supporter of their business and a friendly neighbor to bout! Every time I walk into this store I buy something. Great for my jewelry selection, bad for my bank account. I heart this place for a few reasons: 1. It feeds my addiction to handmade, unique jewelry. The set-up of the store is cozy and fun - even though the place is small, you could walk around for hours and continue to discover something you didn't notice before. 3. In search of a purse for my best friend, Yelp led me to Embellish. Barb, the fabulous shop owner, was just the right kind of helpful and talkative. I never felt pushed or sold to. She was genuinely interested in helping me find the best fit for what I was looking for and knows the ins and outs of every piece she carries. Enough about the awesomeness that is Barb. Everything here is beautiful and reasonably priced. I'd looked around Macy's and Loehmann's and Target for a cute handbag but everything was overpriced and just not right. At Embellish, I didn't have to settle on a bag, but decide between a couple of great fits. Though I'm fairly broke and not shopping for myself right now, the jewelry was unusual and gorgeous and I called dibs on a wallet for when my current one fails me. It's nice to find a boutique-like shop that has a really fantastic personality (thanks to Barb's great taste and friendliness) and isn't pretentious or overpriced. I love this store. Let's get a few things straight: I'm not generally a "talk to the owner of the neighborhood store" type person nor am I a "tons of accessories" type person, but this store is challenging everything I believed about myself. First of all, the owner is phenomenal. She's super stylish, but not in a way that makes me feel uncomfortable when I walk in sweaty from a workout and rocking my running shorts that feature a safety pin stealthy hiding a strategically placed rip. She's also incredibly sweet and nice, but not in a way that feels like it's about making the sale. She even helped me find an awesome, totally out of character necklace that I wore to a wedding and got about a million compliments on. The necklace is now officially my new favorite thing. Second, the store is pretty reasonably priced. I know it's hard to believe, but in the scheme of Chicago boutique-y type places, I find that I can go in here and browse without having a mild heart attack every time I look at a price tag. I absolutely love this local jewelry store! I haven't been back in a while since my tendency is to go in and buy tons of jewelry at a time. I've been resisting the temptation to go overboard. Why? Because Embellish has a great selection of unique jewelry from yet-to-be-discovered jewelry makers - the selection is varied, well-edited, and displayed beautifully. Barb is the owner and is so friendly, knowledgeable, and humble. We've chatted many a time about the jewelry lines, how she discovered them, backgrounds about the jewelry makers, etc. Many a time I've found pieces marked cheaper here than at other boutiques. Barb is one of those rare boutique owners who have a conscious and avoids ridiculous mark-ups (unlike some boutiques in Lincoln Park). Barb has a good sense of her customers. If you are feeling chatty, she is extremely friendly. If you are just browsing, she will leave you to peruse and check in every once in a while. Her husband is often stopping by, and he's is a hoot to talk to - very friendly as well. I was in there one summer, and her nephew was visiting - again, such a friendly teen. Must run in the family. If something is out of stock, she will look into ordering another piece. Some of the collections require a minimum order, so this may not be possible for some pieces, but most of the time, she can get another one for you. For some collections, you can even get things custom-made. Barb took down my color specifications, and my stained glass bracelet was made in about a week! I have not found customer service like this in any small, locally-owned jewelry store in the City. It is truly a gem. read more

My Saturday (gym - bf's house) routine always involves a wander into Embellish. I've been drooling over wallets here for weeks and finally took the plunge today! My new, soft, buttery tan genuine leather wallet has purple flowered lining and is fifty million times better than (and half the price of) my last wallet from Nordstrom. Embellish has a great jewelry selection and is a perfect way to shop local for gifts, especially jewelry sporting an initial or two! I love this store. They are attentive and unintrusive. I love their style and selection, but what's even better than that is their customer service. I will write about two examples. 1) I asked about the different colors one of their bags came in. They didn't have any currently in stock, but they called me back a week later when they did so I could see it in person. 2) I lost one of the beautiful earrings my husband got for me and I brought it in and they were able to send it to the designer to have a replacement earring made to match exactly. The style and pricing are competitive and fair for the beautiful selections offered and the owner and staff truly care about your happiness and helping you find what you weren't sure you were looking for. The selection is just wonderful and includes a variety of price points, which is especially nice when you are holiday shopping and might want to spend certain amounts on different family members or friends. I also appreciate the fact that they support local artists. Jewelry, purses, scarves, headbands, plants (random but I love it) in all sorts of beautiful colors, almost all from companies with a higher moral association (ie giving impoverished women jobs). Some very affordable, high quality items. Also some luxury items. Owner was so kind to happily order me a purse she had in stock, but that I wanted in a different color. Polite, courteous, welcoming staff. I've gone in there in sweats, clearly looking like I had very little money to spend, and they still chatted me up quite a bit. I absolutely love this place. Barb is great and everything I want to be. Her style is impeccable and her jewelry selection reflects that. I bought a Chan Luu bracelet from the shop and after a few months of daily wear and tear, the clasp came off. Since the bracelet was $200 I stopped into her store to see if she had any tools to fix it. Her husband was at the store that day and the two of them went above and beyond to remedy the situation. In the end, she suggested that I just take hers. It was practically new and she could contact Chan Luu about the damaged bracelet for her personal use. Her husband hopped on his bike to pick it up for me. Honestly, can you get better customer service? I think not. Now, I'm using one of her featured artists to custom design a ring for me. If youre looking for a gift for your girl and not exactly sure where to start, this place will do nicely. For a novice dude, they made finding a nice pair of non-diamond stud earrings very simple. While not the cheapest, they were unique and simple with turquoise accents. I really don't mind paying a bit more for local art or jewelry, and that's exactly what they offer. Of note, one of the earrings was slightly damaged recently and the original artist fixed them for free. It pays to shop local! I also thought the handbags looked interesting, but I also know zero about handbags, so my opinion there isn't so useful. All together, they made shopping for her easy and guy friendly.
