Used them for moving. Had a brand new surround sound speaker still in manufactures box and never opened. When they unloaded all my things, noticed it was not there. They said they never saw it. It WAS with all my things ready for them to take. They took it alright!!! To their house!! I reported to moving company but nothing was done. Now I find out they are in litigation for stealing customers things. SMH!! read more

Margaret comes off as nice and christian, very polite, but the movers that were sent to my house were very unprofessional. Her husband was one of the movers, he was the main one. They were very unprofessional, intimated the elderly, double charged me from the original quoted price, damaged property, lost several pieces of electronics, and left the new home in total disarray. My husband and I have to get other's to help us get this place organized. I wish I could give them a minus five, one is too good a review for them. My husband's medication is missing, along with confidential documents. They were disrespectful to us, did not listen. A large amount of missing items. Damaged my washer and dryer. Damaged property of the apartment I was moving into. Called to discuss, and she never got back with me. I would not recommend this company to anyone! read more

Don't use this company! They did a small move for me in October....no packing, no storage. The move took four hours from point A to point B. The movers brought no tools to disconnect the washer and had to borrow from me, and didn't know enough to turn the water off. When I went to pay them, they added a fee for transportation and for use of their furniture covers, not bad if they had informed me at time of booking. After the move the washer didn't work, a solid wood armoire was split, and a chest finish was scratched, along with ripped drawer veneer. I submitted a claim by mail in mid November, but it was returned because their mailing address was listed incorrectly. I submitted it again electronically on Dec. 3. Over the next 70 days I was told it would be settled in 5 days, within a week, the original claims person quit, the next person had a health emergency. Washer claim denied.....no evidence of damage. I told them what the Damage was an provide a picture. Armoire claim denied...split in wood not evidence of mishandling, but it shouldn't have been moved because it was too heavy Chest.....45.00.......weight arbitrarily changed from 100 to 75 pounds. The company had pictures, but discounted my weight estimates and statement of damage with regard to washer. They never asked to see items. All in all a totally unsatisfactory experience with no regard for customer service, business integrity, or just doing the right thing. Use at your own risk! read more

We used Margarets Moving to store our items during a remodel. 1 year later, much of our expensive furniture was damaged, broken, or soiled. One sofa appeared to have cat feces (or some other lager animal) fully delivered in one piece. It was the only thing Margarets returned to us in the shape it was originally delivered. Now I am suing this company just to get the contracted damages they promised to pay. Scheduling was a joke, and so is this company. I expected a lot from this company, I mean they've been voted the best movers in Louisville by all kinds of reviews, the Louisville Cardnials even use them. So I had some high expectations, and was very disappointed in what I recieved. I needed help unloading my moving truck into a storage unit. Because of a family illness I was moving across the country, putting my 1-bedroom apartment in storage, and moving in with family. I was quoted for a 3 man team for 2 hours at almost twice the cost I'd paid movers in my previous major city to move things into the truck from a second floor walk up. I figured this was one more person though so I'd just eat the cost. They are the best in town, right? The men had trouble finding the storage facility but once they did they opened the truck and began moving things before asking about anything. As a result I wasn't given any time to explain that some boxes were labeled "top load" or "fragile" and needed to not have anything stacked on top of them. I quickly explained this as well as he fact some items were being moved to my car, and not into the storage unit. Work continued though, and conversations moved to how cold it was and how they couldn't wait to get inside. For me moving fast was annoying, but not a big deal. I had a big problem when I was explaining things about certain furniture pieces having a glass front, or a top that isn't attached and not being paid attention to. And then watching them scrape those pieces across the cement floor of the storage unit rather than pick them up. I was told there was a minimum of two hours for the movers, but being done in 45 minutes, barely fitting everything into a storage unit 1.5 times the size of the truck, and not being careful with my items made me feel as if they just couldn't care, and couldn't get out of there fast enough. When one of the movers asked me if I was going to use them when I moved out of the unit I told him probably not, to which he just shrugged and said, "I'm cold, I'm getting in the truck." It was clear I wasn't the priority, and will not use or recommend this moving company again. read more

The worst moving experience I've ever had. They didn't deliver many items that belonged to us (including family heirlooms) and delivered things that weren't ours (a bedroom dresser). Their response: review the inventory sheets - but they didn't provide an inventory to us. Items including a brand new flat screen TV and antique dressers were broken. I filed a claim form. Their response: silence. They sent two people to deliver our goods despite a signed contract that specified four people, so we had to carry some belongings and work past 10 p.m. at night to get stuff into the house - and they were 3 days late to boot. They charged us $1,800 for 49 days storage, but we never received and signed a written authorization for those charges. Our cost to move from our house in Shepherdsville to their storage was over $3k. I would never, ever recommend this company to anyone. Not worth it. read more

I only gave it one star because it did not give an opportunity for zero stars! Never never never used this company. We hired them to Pack, move and store the belongings from a 3000 square-foot home. We did get behind on our storage payment and when we went down to catch up, they told us our things had been liquidated, sold at auction. but subsequently, she posted pictures of our belongings in their house on her Facebook page. They "converted " Our possessions to their personal use. We were in a lawsuit with them for nine years, due to their stalling . We finally got a judgment. The judge required mediation to determine monetary damages. Both the corporation and the weathers have found both personal and corporate bankruptcy. So we have lost everything that we owned to them and that the most may get pennies on the dollar! These people need to be held accountable!!! This is the 2nd time over the last few years that I have used Margaret's...I couldn't be more pleased. The office staff is friendly, helpful, & professional. The movers that I had this time were different than the previous crew, but were just as great...Ramsy & Anthony this time...they took great care of our belongings, were very personable, & worked quickly & efficiently. I have used both Two Men & a Truck & Margaret's over the last few years to help with moving my adult daughters...was very pleased with both, but Margaret's rates were considerably cheaper. I had an armoire that would not fit up our stairs, so we had to bring it in a second-story window. I called several moving companies that weren't interested in doing a "small" job like that. Margaret's took on the job and really delivered. Once they arrived they were careful, efficient and extremely professional. I was impressed with the care and communication of the men on the crew. You can tell they've been very well trained -- they are not just muscle but a really well coordinated team. They were also friendly and nice to work with. My advice to other customers is to call ahead and find out if they are running on schedule, if they are coming to you from another job. (The office staff are polite and easy to work with, too.) I felt really good about doing business with them. I hope to stay in this house forever, but if I ever do have to move, I'm calling Margaret's. read more

I just hired Margaret's Moving & Storage for an in town move this past Tuesday and I can't say enough great things about the company! Getting my move date scheduled was a breeze and the customer service lady that contacted me to confirm my appointment was very polite and informative. She let me know all that I should be prepared for on moving day and answered ALL of my questions without a problem. The movers arrived right on time between 7:30 and 8:30 am. We did a quick walk through of the place so they could see everything I was moving, went over the paperwork and they had all of my stuff out and were on the way to my new place in about an hour. I felt SOOO bad that I was moving to a condo on the top floor of a building in Old Louisville WITHOUT AN ELEVATOR and although I mentioned that when booking, I reminded the movers when they got to my place. Expecting them to not be too excited about it...they just laughed and were like "don't worry...this is what we do!" I still felt bad thinking about all the furniture I had but the fact that they were not negative about it made me feel better :) I just refinished the wood floors in my new place so I was worried about scuffing up the floor but the movers were very careful the entire time, treated all my items with care while lugging them up 3 flights of stairs and also gave me time to put felt pads on the bottom of all the furniture to protect my floors. They didn't waste any time. Got all my stuff moved in about 2.5 - 3 hours! Like I said before...I cannot say enough good things about Margaret's Moving & Storage! They were awesome! I would definitely recommend them to anyone looking for a moving company and will use them again for my next move! read more

I began with high expectations, as I had used Margaret's in the past. I engaged them for a move from an apartment to a house for June 23. I was very clear in providing all necessary information (ex. 2nd floor, exact pieces of furniture). My move was scheduled from noon-5pm, & I was told they would call an hour in advance of arrival. By 4:55 I had not received a phone call and no one had shown up. I called the office and left a message when no one answered. Margaret texted me at 5:15 to say the crew was still unloading their morning move and she was trying to get a better assessment. She also mentioned something about elevator & delays, which I did not understand. A few minutes later she texted that it would be "quite a few more hours", and she could send them first thing in the morning. She blamed the problem on the customer not sharing details that involved a longer move time. At this point I asked her to call me, instead of texting. She was very defensive, offered a curt apology and said the crew would arrive at 9am. I feel she should have called me at when she knew they would not be able to handle my move on the scheduled date. I had to reach out to her and even then she did not call only texted. In every move I've ever made, I had to be out of my residence on a specific date, so the next occupants could move in. I don't know what I would have done at 5pm on moving day, if that were the case. I would avoid Margaret's Movers, as they are not reliable and the owner really does not care about customer service or her clients. read more

1/8/2015 Margaret's Movers delivered my mother's furniture. Three movers showed up delivering broken furniture all the while smoking pot on her property. As if this wasn't bad enough two Vizio flat screen televisions were stolen. They were kind enough to bring in the empty boxes. Did I mention my mother is 80???? I would avoid this company and look for alternatives for moving. I can relay my story and you can make up your own mind. We requested a move from Louisville to another town. We informed the company when making the reservation that we would have two pickup locations in Louisville and one drop off point. Importantly, we gave them an idea of the amount we were moving--a full 1-bedroom apartment PLUS a full 3-bedroom house with living room, dining room, a garage and office. Fast forward to moving day: they show up with a truck that I can tell immediately is too small. After at least an hour (we were paying an hourly fee) of looking around the 2nd property they tell us it won't all fit. We got Margaret's on the phone and they seemed vexed, telling us no trucks were available and they'd let us know when one was. (Keep in mind we were moving out of town. We didn't exactly have a lot of time.) They ended up charging for another move on the next day. Our new fridge is scratched to he!! too. read more

3/28/15. Three movers showed up as scheduled at 1:00pm. At 6:00pm they stated that they were "stopping the clock" for us. Two workers worked, the third one was physically unable to carry items. The move was estimated to take 3 hours and cost $400. It took over 5 hours and cost over $900, way too much money and time for a completely packed 2BR house to a 2BR apartment. HIDDEN FEE-----At the end of the move I was presented with an additional 255.00 charge for a "heavy" bookcase.. At no time was I told about this. The movers even placed this two piece bookcase on the truck and unloaded it before they told me about this heavy item fee. I paid for three men. Do NOT use! The movers were fast and friendly but ruined a $1200 stove. That's when the nightmare began. The people in the office were rude, lied to us repeatedly, and answered our email inquiries with form letters. When they did return our stove to us - five days later than promised - it was still broken and they tried to compensate us with a $90 check for a $1200 item. Margaret's Moving is a horrible choice for a mover. I used them to move me out, store my possessions in their warehouse, and move me into my new house 1 month later. They damaged my television during move-out, lost an entire pallet of my belongings during the storage process, and broke a large piece of glass during move-in. Their claim service is terrible - if you somehow get stuck using them, be sure to pay up for the damage insurance. Because you can be sure they'll damage something. On top of those issues, they showed up more than 2 hours after the office called to tell me they were on their way to my home and should be there in 20 minutes. Way to go and come to the rescue at the last minute! When another moving company stood me up and couldn't reschedule my move Margaret came to the rescue and was able to squeeze my move into their schedule within 2 days of my call. (Everyone else was saying it would be the week after the 4th of July. 8 or more days after I had to be out of my apartment.) The rate was even less than my original moving company. The 3 man team that came out was friendly and willing to do whatever we needed them to do and worked well with my 75 year old mother and let her go through stored boxes to decide what to take and not to take while they were moving other boxes. (Even though it slowed the down the process a bit, it was worth the extra cost). We also had an extra cost for a stop at our storage unit to drop off over half the truck load. (The only caveat I have here is that I didn't know there would be an extra charge. It was half the cost of regular truck fee. I don't object to the cost and understand why it was charged. I just wasn't expecting it. When I was discussing the move over the phone and asking when we could schedule the move of the items to the storage unit vs the move to the new apartment I was asked why not do it all at once and save on the truck cost. No mention was made that there would be an extra charge for the stop at the second location. But like I said I don't object to the extra cost just the fact that I didn't know about it ahead of time. The other thing they did that I liked was that when we finally did get to our new apartment it was so late that they called in some more guys to help unload to speed things up and the cost for that turned out to be negligible and I didn't even notice it. While we always tip our movers, we were so happy with how well this move went after having so many trials and tribulations with the previous movers, etc. that we tipped more than we ever had before. read more

The guys had no idea what they were doing... One guy sat in the car half the time scrolling on his phone. Once they had finally all got here (after not telling us the if they were even coming in the morning or afternoon) walked in SMOKING CIGARETTES!!! everything was packed, every single box with stacked in one room, and we told them exactly what to move. One guy kept telling them, "Hey we should start moving some boxes." The other guys completely ignored him and did nothing but slam open and close drawers. They brought two things down to the first floor, and then left without saying a word. After calling them for a hour, and being put on hold 5+ times over the course of an hour, they finally told us that they aren't going to move us anymore. They literally left without saying a word and didn't tell give us any updates, and they had no clue what they doing, and are CRAZY expensive. read more

We called Margaret's for an out-of-town move 2.5 hours from Louisville. The dispatcher gave us a move time that turned out to be totally inaccurate, and a major inconvenience to us. Also, the professionalism of one of the actual movers was less than desirable. They did a fine job moving our items, but there was another miscommunication on the final price, as we were quoted $1181, but when it was completed, they tried to charge $1459. It all eventually worked out, but they do have some major COMMUNICATION ISSUES they need to resolve in order to properly serve the customer. The lack of professionalism was tied to the fact that they considered our move "a minor" one. Just because we are not Wealthy or Famous, we did not deserve to be treated with anything less than courtesy and respect. We did not ASK for any favors or gimme's; we paid for EVERYTHING we contracted for. $1200 for 3 hours total time actually moving items (between 2 states) and a 2.5 hour drive is MORE than a MINOR AMOUNT to PAY!! I have moved eight times in my adult life and hired professional movers every time. Even when I moved my belongings from Kansas to Kentucky, I did not experience a situation as destructive and unprofessional as I had with the move that occurred with Margaret's Movers and Storage. In this most recent move on March 15, 2013, the items were only transported from Goshen to my current home fifteen miles away. During this incident damaged occurred to my previous and new residence. Also, I had to make over one dozen individual claims ranging from damaged furniture, structural damage, broken irreparable items, and "lost" items. Of greatest disappointment were the questionable ethics behind two items that "disappeared" and then to find out after 30 days these items were not 'claimable.' Equally unnerving was the behavior of their staff, which immediately following our discovery of the expensive missing item, sneaking off before we can assess their whereabouts. Unfortunately, we have also heard from Margaret's own employees and contractors that there has been an increasing number of claims of damage being experienced by clients. 30 days later Margaret still ignores our calls and emails. I am getting this message out to spare other customers of the same loss and disappointment I have experienced. read more

Avoid and shop around! Our final bill was almost $1,000 more than they estimated. James, the estimator quoted 2 trucks and 6 men. on top of that he wrote down the incorrect hourly rate. The crew showed up and immediately said "this is a 3 three truck job". $450 for a 3rd truck and 2 men the next day. On unloading two guys show up to help and no one ever mentioned that there would be an extra charge. They damaged drywall at both hones and left us to file a claim and repair/paint.... very difficult with the house closing in two days. They said our credit card would not be charged until billing issues were resolved and it was charged the next day. I called Margaret to discuss the misquote and billing issues and never received a return phone call. Instead a few days later, I receive a call from James saying he would look into it and that we actually got a deal! The moving guys were hard workers but careless with our belongings. I called this morning and ask if they could help us once again as they did last year. A mother of 5 needed a Couch delivered from Goodwill in Mt Washington. 9hours later a girl called back and said the owner said she would do it for the same price as last year. We hired them to deliver a couch for another needy family last year. Then because it was about 5 miles down Bardstown Rd considered Mt Washington she said the owner said no. I explained it was maybe 5 miles from the same place they came to pick up couch last year and delivery wouldn't be as far. She said she would have to hang up and discuss with them again. A woman by the Name of Haley called me back and was very rude. She said they would do it but the price would be $200. AND she said We will get to you when we can.....she said we have no idea when. She was very hateful. I explained the first girl that called back said $100 like last year and we give them a nice review. This Haley said WELL I GUESS WE MADE A MISTAKE!! I have spoke to Margaret the owner before and I don't think this would be the way she would want clients treated. I told this Haley I felt her irritation and I would never call and ask for their services again. Also the type of people they have employed is a huge concern!! SAD read more

I was referred to Margarets moving by a family member and now im reallly wishing I had read how bad the reviews were and I would have never done business with them in the first place. I will say upfront that the staff that showed up to do the actual onsite work was fantastic and very professional. My issue and reason I would personally never hire them again or recommend their services is because their quote for my move more than doubled in cost even though what I asked for didnt change at all. In my initial call I told the lady on the phone I was physically disabled, Ive been in a wheelchair for many years now and I just wanted to have someone move me that way I didnt have to organize it with my family and friends. I asked if they could drop off packing supplies and then have someone move me for $450.00 and she then said "well how about we do it all for $450.00 for you?" And of course I agreed to that and set up the services. The day of my move the packers showed up and packed me in just over two hours and then hand me a "packing bill" for just over $425!! I said does this include the movers to and she said no they will charge you separate when they arrive. I then said what happened to $450 for everything and they said well that sounds like a mistake...and a mistake that I would be paying for not margaret movers! They had me in a bind it was moving day and nothing i could do at this point. A few minutes later I got to speak to someone at the office and she told the packers to discount the supplies and that took the bill down to $298.00. I tip the workers because they are not responsible for office incompetency. And then the movers showed up and again they were very nice as well but they charged $100 just to show up, which was never told to me before they arrived, charged me extra for supplies, they stop the truck one block before my new place to unload a sofa that i was giving to a friend and they charged me $50 to stop, which was on top of the hourly rate i was paying. It took about 2.5 hours and my total bill from the movers was $498.00! So add all that up and they would have charged me just about $950 for a move that they quoted $450! Like I said earlier they did take off $150 for supplies but it was still far more than quoted!! I called Margaret's today and the office manager said "well it wasn't a firm quote, just an estimate" and "I am sorry you were unhappy with us" I have been in a customer service/sales environment for the last 16yrs and If I ever told someone they could obtain my service for a certain amount and then when it was over said "surprise its double that", i wouldnt expect customers to come back to me again. Please dont use Margarets movers if you expect them to honor any type of price quote! furthermore i will be posting this review every week until i receive my $346 difference read more

I do not recommend Margaret's Moving and Storage to anyone. The 3 men immediately showed unprofessionalism when they entered my house. They came in, looking distressed, with no greeting whatsoever. The leader of the team, who wore sunglasses indoors and outdoors, had a negative attitude immediately. Before they even started moving, the man criticized our packing abilities and told us they weren't going to move anything not perfectly tapped in boxes. I understand biding to the company's policies, but the way he communicated was extremely offensive and rude. I don't have a problem respecting company's policies. We were moving to a very close proximity that did not require any vehicle transport. Some packaged baskets/boxes would have been moved in 2 trips with 5 people. The group had no sense of organization. I had to organize them myself. Even before the entire move was over, they were putting on their jackets, ready to leave. There were lawn chairs, microwave, multiple lamps and boxes that were not yet moved. It was as if they were doing us a favor for moving things. WE ARE PAYING FOR THINGS TO BE MOVED. I gave one star for this only 1 gentleman who showed positive attitude despite rest of the team's neglect. He was the only one that wanted to help us. We tipped him very generously. I usually do not leave comments online, but this company needs appropriate review. Do yourself a favor and pay your friends to move things for you instead of hiring this company. It's a shame they drive around with their big "Margaret's Moving and Storage" sign on their truck. People who drive their truck around are ruining this company. We have used Margarets movers twice. With excellent work the first time, we expected the same. However, we witnessed movers kicking our furniture, foul language, and several pieces of damaged furniture.They sent two trucks after being instructed to send one and charged extra. They sent 6 workers after being instructed to send three and charged extra. They also added a "weekend rate" which was never disclosed. After speaking with the owner, we worked out a plan to correct the mistakes. Even after speaking to the owner, we still received an unauthorized charge on our credit card. I attempted to contact the manager over 4 weeks. After she returned my call she was rude and told me we would be paying the total bill because "they don't work for free." I explained to her, the owner and I discussed terms of resolution and she told me "he is very busy and did not communicate the information." After recommending Margarets to our friends and family the first go-around, our furniture remains damaged and we are still paying over $2000 for terrible experience. read more

My move was on February 10 of this year and as I have been busy this is my first opportunity to do a review. I was debating whether to even take the time but thought if this could help others out there then it would be worth it. Half star options are not available else I would have considered 2.5 stars. On February 7, 2012 I received a confirmation email and document with detailed quote costs from Margaret's. The Moving Services/Labor item was quoted at 3 hours for a total of $252. This was based on the list I gave them which was actually updated to reflect a few items I overlooked on the first quote so everything I had to move was accurately reflected on the final confirmation sent to me on February 7. Overall I just do not have a lot of furniture or large items. All smaller/misc items, except for the items in the garage which were discussed during the quoting process, were packed by me and ready for the movers on February 10. I along with a few family members that helped, made approximately 10 different round trips to the new house moving smaller boxes that we had packed. The final bill for the Moving Services/Labor line item came to 4.75 hours at a total cost of $399. So this was $147 over their estimate. I did not have any surprises for the movers, not additional large items that were not included in the list I sent to receive the final quote, nor was there anything else that should have materially slowed the process down. The weather was chilly but no snow on that day during the moving time, and I was moving smaller boxes in my car as the movers were getting the large items and nothing slowed me down. I received a call from Margaret's as a follow up on Saturday February 11 asking me about the move, survey type call. So I explained the circumstances and told them I thought the total Moving Services/Labor hours was a bit too high and though it was fair that I get 1 hour rebated back to me. The initial person on the phone was a young man who then promptly transferred me, or simply had someone else take the phone, to what I assumed was someone in management. This person, young woman, basically proceeded to give generic "possible" causes as to why the time was longer than quoted such as "the weather, ground conditions etc." I explained that the weather and conditions were fine as I was moving boxes too, as previously mentioned, with just a sweatshirt on with no coat. I explained again that I thought a 1 hour rebate on principal was reasonable but she was not truly taking the request seriously, at least it did not seem so. She made some of generic statement again about various circumstances that can affect a total moving cost, which none were relevant to my actual move, and ended by saying "thank you for your business and I hope you will refer Margaret's to others". I had a person from Insight Communications at my house during the time of this call along with my younger daughter so truly did not have a lot of time to debate with this manager. And given her skill level demonstrated in addressing my concerns with generic platitudes and trying to brush me off the phone it did not seem wise to continue the discussion. I honestly do not really expect high-level caliber talent with sophisticated business experience working at a local moving company. But I do expect them to be competent and take the inquiries of their customers seriously and act with integrity. In my experience I did not find that with Margaret's and unfortunately only later found out that their BBB rating was not great either. So to the point of this manager who was underwhelming on the call I had with her, no I can not in good conscience recommend Margaret's to anyone. Worst company EVER and I have moved across country and back....Six months ago I used this company during a death in the family. Of course, I needed to have things moved out of an apartment where the deceased lived. I wasn't thinking clearly because if I was I would have never used this company. If I could give them no stars I would. Unskilled workers and the representative that came to my mom's apartment was dysfunctional. He did not listen to anything I told him. He never returned my phone calls to him about my things.They didn't even give me a list of items that I was moving. They are way too expensive with there shottie service and customer service is rude. They must be from off the street. If you need things done correctly Please, Please, Please use another company, I can't stress it enough.
