Decent lunch! Chips and salsa are a no for me due to the fact the chips taste like cheap store brand tortilla chips. The salsa is a nice consistency but lacked depth and their mild is a bit more medium to spicy IMO. The lunch special is a great value and tasted great. I opted for a mini chicken chimichanga with rice, sour cream, and gauc which all tasted fantastic. The fact that you get a drink with the lunch deal makes this meal a cheap winner. I'm not sure if Margarita's is a destination restaurant, but it does serve a solid Mexican meal. The food is okay, not out of this world, but okay and served in large portions. You're probably going to need a box to take home left overs. I recommend the queso dip as a starter, but I will warn you that it will fill you up pretty quickly. The service is good. Margarita's used to be one of our family's favorite places. Either dining in or getting food to-go, we were always happy with the our meal(s). Something has changed. The food portions are much smaller while the quality has gone down. The food has been dried out and cold as well. When we notified the manager, we were given the response, "well, nobody else has complained." Not an apology nor an offer to make things right. Walked in at 1:30. One of three waitresses waiting on six tables. One came out of the kitchen and seated me after a few minutes. Asked what I wanted to drink, and ordered a Pepsi. Chips came almost immediately, no Pepsi. The only waitress that appeared to be working the floor (blue streaks in her hair) never even looked at me. Chips half gone, no drink, still no acknowledgment. Heard the waitress that seated me ask the the other if she remembered my drink. Three minutes later (yes I timed it) she brings the drink and I order my taco lunch special. Two more parties come in. The waitress who seated me takes the order of the first one. My chips are almost gone. They get their order (appeared to be more food than I ordered), I haven't seen my waitress for five minutes (yes I timed it again). It's now a couple minutes before 2pm. I stood up, looked for my waitress but didn't see her. Through a few bucks on the table to cover the Pepsi and walked out. read more

Excellent food! Worst service ever! We had Grande Nachos, El Mexicanos, and we both had burritos. Everything was awesome! We had to go get napkins ourselves. We had to refill our own salsa, Wehad to get our own carry out boxes. We had to go to the bar and ask for our check. There was at least 4 servers.and only 4 tables occupied but they all seemed to work on the outdoor patio seating which had 3 tables occupied. Terrible.Excellent food but it is self serve. read more

We come here regularly. Recommend the Margarita dip as an appetizer. I like the spinach enchilada with chicken. It is great for a small item to go with the fact I devore so many chips and dip. Margarita's is definitely one of my favorite Mexican places! The chips and salsa are the best hands down. They have daily specials which is awesome. For instance, taco Tuesday (of course) and the tacos are awesome. Burrito Thursday and the burritos are huge! Their chimichangas are also delicious! Service can be hit or miss though. Some of the servers just give off a bad vibe. If you do go for taco Tuesday and show up late afternoon be prepared for a wait. Lots of people love those tacos! read more

This was my first visit here and I was pleasantly surprised. The food was hot, had great flavor, and the portions were big; I ordered the taco platter (#15) and have plenty for another meal. Marissa was the right amount of attentive, polite, and knowledgeable, and was very personable. (Little did we know this was her 1st night by herself, she had the poise of a seasoned waitperson!) They offer great daily deals (i.e. BOGO Beef Tacos on Tuesdays). The servers are friendly and hard-working; they are constantly on the move taking orders, bringing meals, refilling drinks. The chips and salsa are great, and the food is pretty good, but nothing special. I literally cannot sit inside this restaurant however because it smells awful. Roberto I think was his name, was our server, very cute young guy wish we saw more of him. Took us 2 hours to finish our dinner. 1 1/2 hours to get our appetizer, We saw 4 groups of tables sat outside with us finish before we got our appetizer. We sat before these tables. My 16 year old niece finished 3 glasses of water, we all had 4 bowls of chips and salsa, which we had to excuse the table bustman, who was friendly, to fill our drinks and chips. I have never written a one star before and hope I will never have to again, very disappointed and embarrassed to recommend this place to friends and family, definitely not a place for Asian families as I watched servers pass us by without offering any refills or service. Went for a late lunch and the service was terrible. We had to ask for more water and it was the only thing we were drinking. We also had to ask for more salsa and she never refilled the chips. After we paid we got a call from a family member to order some takeout, we tried to get the attention of our waitress and when she noticed she turned her head and stepped into the little waitress alcove and we didn't see her again. I came here for lunch during the work week and this place was surprisingly busy. Even though they were busy the service was super quick and attentive. I was impressed that everything came out so quickly and the chips/salsa were consistently replenished. Their salsa is good. Blended fairly smooth so there was not a lot of chunks. I ended up getting the el mar with shrimp. It didn't seem like there was quite as much shrimp as the other location but there was plenty of cheese, rice and beans. I was easily able to get a second big meal with my left overs by eating half the rice and beans with the first enchilada. Their lunch specials seemed like a good deal and I will probably stick with something on special next time since there wasn't a lot of shrimp. read more

My favorite location is the one up in Gladstone (Margarita's North), but this is also a good location. The experience was great. The food was really good. The music selection was quite decent. Service is typical for their restaurants; not super personal, but effective. Food arrived very quickly! The food itself isn't quite as good as my favorite location, but very, VERY close and still rather good nonetheless. :) Will definitely go back! read more

Wow, I'd been by Margarita's several times and there were always a lot of cars in the lot. Once I stopped in and it was so crowded I decided to go somewhere else. I expected something at least decent. Plus, several years ago now, I'd been to the one on SW Blvd and remember it being pretty good. What a disappointment. A friend and I went in for lunch, and I have to say it was pretty bad. I opted for the $5.99 mini-chimi lunch special. I was a little worried about just how mini this chimi was going to be but saw that it was usually $6.89 on the al a carte menu so I figured it coudnt be too small. It came with rice and a drink. If you want beans $2.39 more. Sour cream you say? $0.89. Diced onions? $0.59. Onions, yes. I should have taken the upcharges as a bad sign but sill, I went on. Well, I guess I should have asked the waitress about the size of the chimi after all. It came out and was literally about 4 large bites with a mound of rice that wasn't even as good as something out of a Rice-a-Roni box. Later I heard the waitress explain to the table behind us that the mini-chimi on the a la carte menu was actually full size, but that the one with the lunch special was indeed mini. Oh well. It didn't matter anyway because the flavor wasn't very good either. Needless to say, I don't plan on returning to Margarita's anytime soon. I'd much rather go to Fontera's across the street or Mi Ranchito anytime. read more

This review is surprising me too. Look Margarita's is pretty good Mexican food for the Gringos. I think most people would agree with that statement. It's a solid 3 stars and this location is convenient for me and yet I still don't frequent this place because there are so many other great Mexican places. What I am here to talk about is the breakfast. Apparently, only available at this location. Not sure when it started but it was a pleasant surprise. I locked onto the Mexican Omelet. Because I love Southwest style or Mexican Omelets and I have had a lot of them. Most of the time on the road and most of the time they are at best, average. Not this Omelet here. I absolutely loved the golden perfection of the Egg in the Omelet. Normally you get a light fluffly Omelet right? That's how I get them and how I make them. But the Golden Egg Omelet with the Chorizo was fantastic. I am going to go back again and again to try it and hopefully I will figure out how to make it myself! Seriously, the breakfast is worth trying there based on this experience. Oh and they had a Formula One race on the television there. I'm a Formula One nut and had never walked into any bar in the US with a Formula One race on the television. Of course this race was broadcast on Fox this time and not Speed. So just a coincidence I suppose. Go for the Breakfast on Sundays! read more

Have to wait to be greeted when you walk in, wait to be seated, wait for chips. No one is friendly! If you like greasy, cheese covered, bland food then this is the place for you! I don't. The salsa is too sweet, even the "hot" salsa isn't hot. Their tacos come out soggy and when you pick them up, they fall apart. The puffy tacos at nearly $4 each aren't that special. The last 3 times I had the margarita dip it was cold. The chicken is dry, there is no seasoning on the beef and when I ordered the carnitas they were so greasy you could pour the liquid off the plate. My recommendation? I have been here for dinner before, and I'm not the biggest fan of Mexican food, but I didn't think this was one of the few exceptions that make me rethink my Mexican food-aversion, and those restaurants are out there. I went with husband and in-laws for BREAKFAST this morning. I love breakfast food. When I wake up at 11, I still want breakfast, not lunch. I like breakfast that you couldn't confuse for lunch. So it was not my choice to go here. I was not impressed with the selection of food for breakfast. They open at 9am, but everything was more of a savory, quite filling variety. Look at the menu yourself, but not wanting actual Mexican food for breakfast, my only choice was to get pancakes. I could also get an egg off the a la carte menu, which I did. Service wasn't great either. I think if my in-laws want to go to breakfast again THERE, I'll just get "sick", rather than sit through such a mediocre breakfast again. Tortillas are NOT a substitute for toast. But if you are still interested, apparently on the first Sunday of the month, it's buy one get one free for breakfast. read more

I'd like to consider myself a bit of a Mexican food connoisseur. I love Mexican food more than pretty much any other cuisine. It's basically taco night in our house at least once a week. When I want to go out for Mexican Margaritas is in my top three favorite spots in KC. Wacky Wednesday is my favorite...their soft tacos are so yummy! The beef isn't greasy at all, which I love. Always the same...GOOD! I like consistency. Knowing that you can go 2 or 3 times a month and it will always be good is one of the best things about any restaurant. Awesome chicken fajita salad was different. Not your average salad from a Mexican joint. Cheap and easy to choose from the menu. Annoying service from the front door to the table. We were sat next to the bathrooms. Not my favorite spot. Bus/water boy kept delivering water with his thumb in my cup. I couldn't believe it. I drank the water though and I didn't die. Waitress obviously took a smoke break while we were actually hoping to get our check delivered. Salsa was bland. Chips were like half taco shells that were warm and fresh yet old and stale at the same time. It's confusing I know but if you try one you will be like, yeahhhh I get it. Not a fan. Worth the try. We haven't been to margaritas in over 10 years but stopped in last night for dinner. Service was perfect, despite being pretty busy. I got the pork chili plate and it was great, next time I will tell them to hold the melted cheese on top. White cheese dip was amazing. Hubby was happy w his tamale topped with pork sauce. Generous portions, we took home a lot of leftover. Kids got chicken fingers & taquitos and they were both good. Pleasantly surprised by this place & will be back! read more
