Stopped for dinner. Noticed the dining room was almost empty and a little dingy. The chips and salsa was ok, stale chips, not warm. The service was great and my order of Barbacoa arrived in under 10 minutes. The food was hot and tasted good. The beef was shredded and tasted like slightly spicy pot roast. This is the second time we have ate at El Saguaro. We thought we had found our new favorite restaurant ! Last Sunday was busy and fantastic! We ordered pozole which was meat hot and delicious! We had a Couple other dishes that were incredible. This week NO MEAT and Cold posole!! There was a table across from us who has posole that was super meaty and Hardy! Our posole even had some strange color. I still can't get over that it was cold. The tamales were nothing but the corn mix! Teensy tiny string of pork in the middle. Two tamales NO beans NO rice but we got Charge $8 as if it were an entire meal! It was almost like we were totally invisible today. We had to call someone over to place our order and add to order! Very nice small authentic Mexican restaurant. The interior is rustic and has stuffed deer heads on the wall. The street tacos are amazing and I really loved the fajitas, we got the mix which was chicken, beef and shrimp. They where very generous with their meats and it was large enough to share. Made the mistake of ordering the gorditas, they do not look like the picture and I was very disappointed in that. They serve Mexican beer and Mexican Coke. Prices are not bad. Not an expensive dinner. Staff are friendly but English is not their strong suit. Over all we had a very enjoyable experience. Would've given them 5 stars if not for the gorditas. read more

Being from California this is one of the few places in the KC area that serves real Mexican food and not Tex mex. the El Dorado (regular hard tacos) are really good! The steak on the steak burrito was scarce. The red sauce they covered it with reminded me of ketchup and chili powder. There is an 8% covid-19 surcharge, I guess to make up for lost revenue. They have you wash your hands before sitting down, yet no one wears a mask or used gloves. The girl at the front took a takeout order out the did not disinfect before bring out our food. The surcharge would be fine if they were following protocols. I doubt if we will be going back it used to be our favorite. Time to try and find another Mexican restaurant. read more

My taco lunch plate (three tacos, refried beans, and rice with free chips and salsa) was a very good deal at just $5.99. The chips were thin and crispy, and the medium salsa had a nice kick. The tacos had plenty of chicken and fresh veggies, the refried beans were delicious, and the rice was very good. Unfortunately, the chicken was dry and over-cooked to the point where most of it was crunchy. The service was excellent (friendly, fast, and attentive), while the dining area was clean with three TVs and Mexican music. read more

What ever happened to a good "Hole in the wall" Mexican restaurant? Let's start with the inexperienced staff. No personality whatsoever. Next, I asked for a milder sauce with our chips. It was very clear, My exact words were, "excuse me, do you have any milder sauce? a few moments later, my wife and I were having a conversation and the waitress placed the sauce on the table. The next thing I knew, after I dipped a chip in the sauce and took a bite, my mouth was on fire. It was their hottest sauce! No apology at all. She just stood there with a dumb look on her face as I was in agony. I could not talk, my wife explained what happened, guess what, she just walked of... Now for the food, wow, maybe this was just a bad night, I don't know, but what I do know is, I wouldn't feed it to a dog. I ordered the Baracoa flat steak with cactus. 1. Steak was extremely dry and tough (they didn't even ask how I wanted my steak cooked). 2. The cactus was in my opinion 3 days old. The color was not fresh and it was so mushy with no taste. 3. The refried beans and rice were not fresh at all. It seems it was left over from lunch. Rice was hard and the re-fried beans were like they were left out all day and then warmed up and server. I'm am originally from L.A. California, I know what good Mexican food should taste like. This was not. Warning - DO NOT TRY. You'll be sorry unless something change. read more

The older lady is not sanitary I asked her to put gloves on and she never did. She kept handling raw and cooked foods without washing her hands. Also I asked for a to go container for cocktail de cameron and it was filthy. I will not go there due to the fact I do not wish to get sick!!! That's too bad because the food was not terrible ( also not the best) but I would have gone back if it was not for that reason. Mind you I went on 3 occasions and each one was exactly the same even after asking if she would glove up. So I hope no one gets ill. I can only hope she washes after using the lavatory! read more

Some of the best places for a honest meal are found in strip malls. This one included. This is the type of restaurant that I would feel comfortable just telling the wait staff to surprise me with anything on the menu. It's all good.
