Food wasn't anything to rave about. It was good but compared to other places it's just okay. Small portions for the prices too. Can't beat $3 margaritas that taste pretty good, so there's a plus. Service was good considering we were a large group and only one person was taking orders. Here's where they lost stars: my sisters order was forgotten and she even had to ask about it a 2nd time, so she requested it be packed up to go, everyone else was done eating by this time. Then, as she was checking her food, someone came out of the kitchen to say she had been given the wrong order and they took it back which meant she waited almost another 10 minutes. The best mistake I've ever made. We drove up to this location on accident. I was using Waze to guide me as I'm from out of state visiting family, and I pulled up thinking I arrived. (I was close to the other haha). It wasn't until we pulled away I read the sign and realized my wonderful mistake. We were seated immediately, servers attended to us promptly, the menu and drinks were offered and we got complimentary queso for our first visit! I try to never use unconscious bias when doing reviews based on other people's experiences. I arrived at Fronteras at 6:05 p.m. just after happy hour ended. Flying solo, I decided to take my usual seat at the bar. There was no one else at the bar at that time except for me and two young ladies waiting for their checks. The other parts of the restaurant seemed quite busy and there were 2 people making drinks behind the bar. The one lady who would be my server, Samantha, made the gesture that she'd be with me shortly. A few minutes later she took my drink order which was a long island iced tea. She looked a bit confused and decided to wing it by putting some concoction together. She even called it a concoction. I saw her top it off with mostly margarita mix and then some Coke at the top. She disappeared after that. A couple sat down at the high top behind me not long after I arrived and were already being served chips and salsa. Another lady who may have been the owner or manager saw me waiting and asked if I was ready to order. I asked if I, too, would be able to get some chips and salsa. She radioed to the backroom when the young waitress who was waiting on the folks at the high top came quickly with the chips. They were very good chips and salsa. I ordered the Combo Tres which was a seafood enchilada, cream cheese enchilada and chicken tomale with refried beans and Spanish rice. I ended up finishing the chips and salsa while I waited for my food to arrive. They offered to refill my chips, but unfortunately I had no salsa to go with it since I finished with the last bowl of chips. I ordered another iced tea, but was reluctant to watch her make it this time. Finally my food arrived. I couldn't tell initially which was the seafood and which was the cheese. The cheese enchilada had cubes of chicken in it. The seafood enchilada was tasty and probably the best item on the plate. The chicken tomale is obviously not something they sell a lot of. It was extremely dry with very little taste. If it were any drier, it would have been called jerky. Samantha was being nice at this point since I was done and she wondered if I'd have a third iced tea. I was only hoping the iced teas weren't $10 each because they were worth about $3. In the end, the iced teas cost $7 each which made it the most expensive items I'd consumed that evening. By 7:15 I was ready to go. read more

Hands down, best Mexican food in Gardner! And so far, better than the traditional Mexican places we have tried in Olathe! Service was outstanding - very attentive. House margaritas were strong and cheap. 12 ounces for $3. The food had so much flavor. We got to try the white spinach queso and salsa. Both delicious and they have the thin chips, which were hot and fresh tasting. We loved all the main courses as shown in the pictures, and then we got dessert. The churros came out hot with syrup and liquid chocolate for dipping! By the way, that was only $3 as well. We got apps, 4 margaritas total, 2 main entrees, and a dessert all for under $40. It was not very busy which was surprising for a Saturday at noon but it was nice because we were in a hurry. The red salsa that came with the chips was very good and so was the guacamole. I order the Chunky burrito but was sadly disappointed but my husband order the guacamole burrito which I tried and we both really enjoyed it. Apparently there's no host/hostess bc we waited 10 min for anyone to even come up to the front to talk to us. It took more than 30 minutes for our order to arrive, the food was bland, they messed up my order and then blamed it on me (I ordered spinach and chicken enchiladas but there was no chicken when it arrived and the waiter said, "yeah, they're spinach enchiladas - they don't come with chicken"), the meat & vegetables on the fajita dish were beyond scorched and completely inedible, and the service was terrible. The Fronteras in Lenexa has incredibly fast & friendly service, the food is always delicious, and food arrives before we can get halfway through the first bowl of chips. I thought that I would have a similar experience but I was woefully wrong. I will NEVER return to the Fronteras in Gardner. I will drive a much further distance to the Lenexa location for better service and quality of food. read more

Found this little spot in my travels. Today was my second day for lunch there! Chips and salsa? Get queso!!! Chips are light, salsa is fresh and you can order a hotter mix if you want. VERY delicious!!! It was my first time here. I had the Chili Verde Burrito. Braised pork, black beans, cheese covered in chili verde. Absolutely incredible! My son had the steak quesadilla and loved it. The house salsa is not spicy at all; but had a wonderful flavor and is nice and chunky. The service was good and the restaurant is nice and clean.
