Higher prices but the portions arent terribly small at least. The clam chowder was pretty standard (nothing crazy but nothing to complain about). The steak tacos were pricey for the amount you get but the meat was good. The enchiladas were probably the most worth and were tasty though the beans weren't particularly good. The chips may be pricey but they are unlimited which is nice. My friend had the margarita and said it was just ok which is probably a little disappointing if thats what youre coming for. Service was solid though and The outdoor seating facing the beach is really nice and they do have heat lamps since it can get chilly. Parking in downtown Capitola is a little crowded (and most of it is paid parking) so you'll prolly need to do a short walk. All in all, you're paying more for the ambiance and service but the food isn't terrible and it was overall still a nice experience
Beautiful patio seating with great service! The mai tai seemed like it was missing something. It was yellow with no orange in it, but still strong (nothing worse than a watered-down drink). The Pomegranate margarita is very tart. The tacos are always amazing! I liked that the server brought out the happy hour menus when the time came without us asking.
Had an overall good experience at Margaritaville. The Dungeness Crab Tostadas and Baja Fish Tacos were both really good--especially since the fish didn't taste overly fishy (big plus for me). Drinks were solid too--the Pomegranate Skinny Margarita and Piña Colada were both refreshing. Appreciated the pet-friendly outdoor seating. Only downside is the high-top tables could use bag hooks since space is limited. Service was good and the online reservation system was easy to use. Parking in this area on a weekend is a bit of a hassle. Recommend parking in the Public Lot behind the police station and walking.
The service and the margaritas were amazing. I can also add that the food is great but pricey, and I was not pleased when I got charge an additional $12 to add chicken to a $28 quesadilla. No warning, Not cool!
A stop in Capitola means a mandatory visit to Margaritaville. It is definitely located in the touristy part of town but believe me, it is a local watering hole too. Incredible waterfront and ocean views from both inside and the outside patio make it a popular destination. The Mexican faire and spirits are very good. Seafood is a specialty. Vegan and vegetarian items available. Great chips and salsa. Margaritas that taste delicious and go down easy:). Lovely, friendly and welcoming customer service. Truly a vibrant, casual atmosphere in which to relax and enjoy your day. Bring the family, friends, or that special someone. Parking can be a challenge. But do not let that deter you from experiencing one of Capitola's best oceanside Mexican restaurants. Trust me on that one. Salud!
Had a birthday lunch at Margaritaville surrounded by sunshine, peaceful ocean sounds, & great service. I treated myself to a coastal drive with a few stops for walking and a nice lunch. Kasey was my server & she respected my unusual requests that included alone time to read a great book and dessert first. I started with a healthy bottle of filtered water & lava cake. Ice cubes in the water glass were perfect cubes! Not crushed, not cylindrical, just perfect. I added a diet Coke to my meal... more cubed cubes. Lava cake was moist & chocolately, but I don't really like chocolate. Dessert options were limited, but I recommend the churro. Next, I had marinated skirt steak with chimichurri sauce - medium rare. I requested beans without rice, but was served beans with rice. Beans were yummy. Dunno about the rice because I don't like it. The steak! It was amazing. Perfectly cooked with the juices mixing with sauce that created a delicious blend of flavors. Chimichurri sauce was a nice blend of acid (lemon?), sweetness from the parsley, and olive oil. It was so good that I'm drooling as I type this review. Quiet day in Capitola - low season for tourists, so the restaurant was mostly empty. No rushing the guests, so I read alot & took some nice photos. Chef was very friendly & cute! Clean bathrooms, plenty of nearby paid or free parking, and patio with umbrellas for dining. Only negatives -- I asked for 'no ice' in my water & no rice with my entree. Also, I wanted Crudo instead of cake, but it wasn't available. Kasey recognized the errors and was an exceptional server.
My husband and I found this little gem on Yelp after seeing all the great reviews, so we decided to give it a try. We came in on a busy Sunday and were quoted a 30-minute wait, so we decided to grab a drink at the bar. It took quite a while to get our pitcher of margaritas, and by the time our drinks arrived, our table was already ready. We were seated outside per our request and had an amazing view. The weather was perfect, which made the experience even better. My husband ordered the shrimp tacos, which were excellent -- the sauce was perfectly made and the shrimp was very flavorful. I ordered the branzino plate, and it was absolutely delicious and cooked to perfection. There were bones, so I ate it slowly, but it had plenty of meat. It came with a salad topped with a cilantro dressing that was outstanding. We would definitely come back. They have super clean bathrooms. The margaritas were strong and delicious. The only downside was that the bar service was very slow and our table server wasn't very friendly, though it was extremely busy. Despite that, the food and drinks were excellent.
Margaritaville in Capitola was a cute little Mexican restaurant that my friends and I decided to visit after a long day of hiking and checking out the cute painted houses/beaches nearby. While we did not have a reservation, the wait was not too bad and we only had to wait about 35 minutes. The inside of the restaurant is beautifully decorated with tons of seashells, blue tones and sandy wood colors and there is a large window panel where you can directly see all of the little colorful houses of Capitola as well as the water and beach behind. It is absolutely beautiful especially if you go around sunset time. As for the food, I decided to get the fish tacos, the guacamole with chips and the calamari. The calamari was my absolute favorite and was perfectly crispy and tender with a delicious aioli to accompany it. The guacamole was also incredibly fresh and tangy, and the Margaritas were also refreshing and tasty. That being said, my fish tacos were quite dry and could have used more seasoning or salsa to add flavor. All in all though Margaritaville is definitely a solid beautiful restaurant to visit while in Capitola!
Perfect Mexican restaurant with a beautiful view of the colorful architecture of Capitola. Great for families and in a fun and walkable neighborhood. The pictures don't do it just but the food was absolutely amazing. The flavors were complex and delicious. You could tell that only the best ingredients were used to prepare each dish. And of course the margaritas were solid. The service was friendly and welcoming. Highly recommend for delicious Mexican food with elevated flavors.
Came here for dinner on a Tuesday night. It wasn't super packed but there was enough people inside to make the atmosphere feel lively. You have indoor dining options or outdoor dining options with a view. They have heaters outside to keep you warm. We got the calamari and the birria tacos. The birria tacos were good but they could've been crispier. The calamari had the same issue the breading wasn't crispy enough but the food itself had flavor and was good. The overall dinning experience was pleasant though the staff was very friendly and accommodating.

Yes, yes, yes. If you're looking for a strong marg, views, and comforting Mexican food without a worry of splurging the wallet in Capitola, Margaritaville is your spot. I would most def come back here again during the day and sit outside and take it all in! We arrived to Capitola late evening as the sun was setting and chose to sit indoors with the kiddo after walking the beach and finding Margaritaville still open and thriving. The staff was so gracious and even went across the street to grab a special straw for the kiddo ~ high chair/kids menu/all the special love too. It's these moments when you realize the staff has young kids and just you know..get it. So thank you Margaritaville for that, we still have the straw as a vital everyday piece of our day. As mentioned, margaritas are done well. The guac is phenomenal, chips homemade. I went with the blackened shrimp enchiladas, and others ordered the shrimp diabla and chile verde enchiladas. The verdict = delicious. My enchiladas came with a house sauce that tasted like a mole. Ample pieces of shrimp cooked to perfection. I heard from table convo the shrimp diabla was just the right amount of spice and flavor, and the pork meat being juicy in the chile verde. Loved the Spanish rice and creamy refried beans on the side as well. We did premium margaritas ($21), but there are other options like tiki drinks, zero proof, non-alcoholic, beer/wine, house cocktails, and house marg/skinny marg. Dessert is also served here, and it's recommended to make a reservation ahead of time as this place gets hoppin'. Can't wait for a day marg soon!

We booked the table online via yelp and found out table reserved when we came in ! The ambience and cleanliness of restrooms is great ! The location is 10/10 We started with appetizers of nacho , salsa and chips followed with house margarita, pinacolada and mango margarita which were tasty that we had to second round . Followed to main course , ordered 3 veggie tacos and added mango salsa !! They were so yummy and the waiter was so helpful to customize to match my taste buds . Always order a side of grilled jalapeños !! They just add the whole experience to another level read more

It is a very cute restaurant with a nice view. Staffs are very friendly, they let you sit wherever you want to. Service is excellent, our server checked on us constantly and is very patient when we were ordering. Food is about average, you can't really compare it with all those restaurants in the bay but is good enough for a little gathering. My fav is the clam chowder, fried calamari and mussel. Ceviche is a little bit disappointing. Baja fish tacos is about average, the fish is very fresh but here's not a lot flavor to it. Mussel sauté is great! Overall is a nice dining experience with a nice view. read more
Margaritaville is a perfect place to grab lunch if you are in the area. We sat on the deck and enjoyed a stunning view of the beach, and were kept very warm thanks to their outdoor heaters. The servers were very friendly, and the food was great. Items are a bit pricey, but this is expected in a touristy area like Capitola. We were able to walk in and were seated immediately, but I could easily see there being a wait on a hot summer day. Definitely worth checking out if you're in town. read more
The last margaritville I was at was in Jamaica. I was really surprised to see the 4 star rating for a chain but agrees with it after eating there. We met a friends family there and sat inside. There was plenty of room and felt safe during this COVID time. Some highlights - crab tostada $21 not cheap but enjoyed every bite. Very fresh - steak tacos $21 also very good. - halibut special. My friend finished the whole plate - kids had chicken and cheese quesadilla and also churros. Really loved the fresh churros. read more

Stopped in for drinks and a bite to eat. We were very happy with our service! We were first told it would be an hour wait for tables inside and 1.5 hours for outdoor seating. We figured we would walk around to kill time... it wasn't even an hour wait which was awesome. We ordered guac, chips and salsa for apps. A pitcher of their house margs which was yummy. For our meals we ordered the steak tacos, fish tacos, and chicken nachos. Baja fish tacos were BOMB and we wished we ordered two orders instead of the steak (which was still good). Nachos were OK. Wish we got our servers name cuz she was great... constantly checked in on us. My only critique is the ambiance. Being inside i would've never guessed. We were at a 'margaritaville' let alone a Mexican restaurant. Interior could use a facelift and some color lol. I'd definitely come back here for the tacos, margs, and the service! read more
Outdoor lunch. Our order: ceviche, clam chowder, Caesar salad and branzino. Clam chowder was too chunky for me but excellent flavor, not too salty and just a tad creamy. Average Caesar salad. Would advise against ordering the ceviche - we took a bite and both decided that the shrimp and halibut weren't all that fresh, texture was rubbery and the marinate wasn't well infused. Excellent branzino - wow, the texture was so tender and juicy, seasoned just enough to retain the fish's original oceanic flavors enhanced by a splash of lemon juice. Can get a beautiful view of the rainbow houses from the outdoor patio, heater lamps available in case the winds blow. Also lots and lots of dogs. read more

Took a drive during the week to have lunch here and enjoy the scenery. We were able to be seated right away with our choice of inside or outside seating. The weather was nice so we sat outside and they have heaters as well. There's several tables outside but more seating inside and the tables are small if you happen to order several items and drinks. The view was nice although the water was low but most importantly our orders were taken quickly and there was not a long wait for the food. The nachos could have been sufficient alone for the 2 of us based on the size of it. And once the shrimp tacos arrived we couldn't finish them although they were very good! The serving size of the drinks were good and you'll like it more if you get there during happy hour! A nice place to go to for good food, drinks and ocean views. read more
This place has such a beautiful view of Capitola beach, the restaurant's outdoor seating in the back is a perfect spot to have a couple of drinks with a seaside view. Drinks - We ordered the Mango Margarita and Bloody Mary, both were amazing! The drinks were not only strong, but had great flavor. I requested my Bloody Mary spicy, and they couldn't have made it any better for me! I love a spicy Bloody Mary, and I can tell this restaurant uses quality ingredients and doesn't cut corners when it comes to their drinks. The Mango Margarita was one of the best I've had so far, I could taste the fresh mango nectar, and it didn't have any artificial or syrupy taste like many fruit margaritas tend to have. I would highly recommend this place if you're looking for good quality drinks with a great view! read more

I thought this place would be like a chain restaurant but it wasn't at all, it was really good! It's very modern and everyone working there is super nice. Our server, Taylor, was so sweet! We got the chips, salsa and guac. My husband got the Baja tacos which he loved and I got the chimichurri steak which was really good too! The drinks were also so good, I got the painkiller-- be careful it's strong but good. He got the jalapeño mango margarita (because you can mix flavors) and loved it. We also got the churros for dessert, they smelled like Disneyland. Also recommend sitting outside, the fire heaters kept us warm and we had a nice view! read more

Great lunch spot with a sweet view! We got to snag ourselves an outdoor spot overlooking the beach and the colorful buildings. We shared the chile verde nachos which were my favorite part of the meal. Extremely delicious starter! To drink I had the pomegranate margarita and my entrée was the skirt steak with chimichurri. Steak was cooked nicely and melted in your mouth. Enjoyed the chimichurri sauce, as well as the mixed veggies garnished on top. Service was quick, friendly and attentive. It is a MUST you order the chile verde nachos if you find yourself here! You won't regret it. read more

I was looking for a place to grab brunch/snacks after a long ride to Aptos. We were starving and were close to capitola, I choose this place since it had decent reviews and we were craving some spicy and warm Mexican food (Perfect for a foggy day in the bay). We ordered the skinny house margarita (in pomegranate.. this was great and boozy) and a beer, modello. They had a good range of menu and drink options to choose from. We ordered the chips and salsa (very fresh and crispy), the chicken Quesadilla (so cheesy that I can't stop eating), chicken nachos (loved this and also took them Togo as we couldn't waste it). This place has a goood view of the capitola beach, very picturesque. The staff was very friendly and followed all the necessary protocol. Even though it was cold and foggy we still had heaters next to us and had a great time with good view at the patio seating, good ambiance, good food and boozy drinks. I'd definitely come back here if I pass by capitola. The neighborhood has some cool options for coffee too. Tip: I'd recommend to come here on a nice day to make the most of it. read more
I came back today and was very disappointed to see how different their customer service changed. The main host gave us a estimated wait of 20-30 minutes and we ended up wait a hour. We went up to asked her if it was really bad she was extremely rude and unhelpful. She the sat us at a table that would cram my party into a very small table. Told us to leave if we weren't happy so we did. Would not recommend going here. read more

Staying in Santa Cruz for a few days, so we had to come try out Margaritaville. We were NOT disappointed. The food came out fairly quickly. We ordered the ceviche as a starter. Our entrees, clam chowder bread bowl was delicious the garlic shrimp w/ beans & rice was AMAZING. The flavor of the garlic shrimp was so good I was dipping my bread in it. We really enjoyed our dinner & the outdoor seating with the friendly ducks swimming around along with the outdoor heating lamps makes it such a nice ambiance. We'll definitely be back. We went here for lunch and in the middle of a quiet afternoon experienced an emergency. Staff was VERY helpful and was just oh so kind. We enjoyed every food we ordered and if I can only give them 10 stars for the GENUINE customer service and compassion received I would. A friend of mine told me that Margaritaville had the BEST calamari in town. Being a fishy fiend myself, I knew that I would eventually need to go and try them for myself. This review is then only for their calamari takeout during our current quarantine days. I called in to place my order which they said would take appx. 30 minutes to prepare. In fact, the order was done within 10 and I hadn't even already arrived yet to pick it up. They have two separate entrances- one for pickup orders and one for dine-in in order to keep the traffic flow one lane. Restaurant itself practiced great social distancing and health measures by ensuring everyone was wearing a mask and tables were spread out. Major props to them for doing this especially in such a tourist hot spot. As for my $16 calamari, I honestly can't say that they were my favorite. The portions were quite small (as you can see in my photo) and I found the batter and seasoning nothing to write home about. While the quality of the squid was good, I couldn't get past the high expectations that I had been instilled. I'm hoping to return again one day to try out more of their Mexican fare since that is what they are all about. read more

My Girlfriend said these were the best nachos she's ever had. I had the midnight Margarita and loved it, the baja fish tacos were alright at best though. The staff are so nice, our server was really awesome. Love the outdoor seating, id come back and have a margarita anytime. read more

It's been a long while since I had last visited Margaritaville. It was a perfect day to sit in the patio area and enjoy the scenery. I had lunch with my girlfriends and we shared some pitchers of margaritas - classic, pomegranate and mango plus chips, guacamole and salsa. I enjoyed a cup of chicken tortilla soup and followed by the green chile enchiladas dish with a side of beans and rice. read more

I'm giving Margaritaville a solid 4.5/5! My boyfriend and I showed up around 1:30 on a Saturday with no reservation and was told for indoor seating they could seat us right away but for outdoor it would be about a 20 min wait. We opted to wait for outdoors since it was a gorgeous day and after about 10 min I got a text saying our table was ready (so we really hardly waited)! I started with the pomegranate margarita and my boyfriend had the strawberry margarita. Both were good, not too strong. We got chips and salsa for an appetizer and both salsas were SO GOOD. The chips were crispy and fresh, we wanted more but our fish tacos that came next said "you'll want to eat all 3 of us so stop now!" Now for the fish tacos....I'm still thinking about them and it's been 5 days. They are LOADED with goodness, incredible fried fish, avocado, mango salsa, and a chipotle sauce. If you're sensitive like me, note the chipotle sauce has a smidge of a kick to it but it's really good. Major note here...if you're eating outside BE WARY OF THE SEAGULLS! They are ruthless and will 100% poop on you. I saw it happen right before my eyes, thankfully I was covered by an umbrella but my poor boyfriend really got the worst of it! read more

Great experience after a day on the beach. Our waiter Rafael provided top notch service. We had margaritas and chips and salsa as the sun set. They make everything in house, including the salsa, chips and the juices for the margaritas. Great view from our patio table into the beach. Great afternoon. We were not rushed in any way. I do not have one complaint regarding this establishment. The workers here are beyond friendly, knowledgeable, attentive & The food is good. They have the best calamari I have tried in a long time, the sauces paired with it was delicious!! Oh and they offer pitch margaritas for a decent price. read more

Margaritaville has the best Birria tacos, hands down THE BEST!!!!. Please do yourself a favor and order it if you're there. I drive from the South Bay almost every Sunday just to have them. I'm on my way now, lol. Their Dungeness crab tostadas are so good and very refreshing, especially on a hot summer day, and yes, it's real Dungeness crab. The Baja fish tacos are also good, very crispy with a nicely dressed slaw to cut threw the grease... They have the best margaritas. My favorite one is for pomegranate margaritas. I did try their flan for dessert, and I enjoyed it. It was delicious. There is a bit of a wait, and sometimes service can be slow; I did took off one start bc. I'll be honest, even if we have reservations, we usually wait 25 to 30 mins; that is not cool. Hopefully, they will look into that and change it. read more

Our first experience was amazing. Tried to reserve a table in advance a week prior and had no luck. Took a chance the day of (on a Friday) for a walk-in for late lunch and with luck scored a table for 4 on the patio. Great views of the bridge, water and colorful rentals across the water. There's something about the clear skies, gentle breeze, seagulls flying overhead, ducks in their element, sound of the waves and happy people surrounding us that elevated the our dine in experiment that much more. Made us have all the family feels. Patio was also dog friendly, which worked out for us and Fido. Was a little chilly but the heat lamps they provide settle that quick. As far as service, very courteous and quick, but not pressured. Timing was right with a few drinks to start and then food, which turned out amazing. Had the chips and salsa, gone in the first 5 mins! Salsa offered was green and red, both were yum. Had a side of guacamole and that too was delicious. Also refilled our chips when they saw empty. Great option if you're not looking to break the bank. I had the skirt steak with shrimp enchilada. Omg, Delicious!!! So fresh and wonderfully cooked to my liking (medium with the right amount of pink) and so juicy. The presentation wasn't too bad on the eyes either. My husband had the fish tacos. He enjoyed it as well, although he did mention could have used a little more seasoning. However, the chipotle sauce it came with did the trick. Overall, the ambiance and food were well worth the experience. Would visit again! read more
Visiting in Aptos for the week, we had to come to Capitola for an afternoon. We chose Margaritaville and we were not disappointed! All the food we had was great and the ambiance was fantastic! I took my parents here for there 37th Anniversary, it's a cute restaurant. Extremely busy. We had a very long wait, come to find out this is the busiest weekend of the year. Because of the wharf to wharf Marathon, that takes place on Sunday. We were a party of 10, so that didn't help either, however, the hostess was very nice and added a couple of chips and salsa appetizers for free. Chips and salsa we're great. We also ordered calamari. And I had clam chowder it was delicious my dad had clam chowder in a bread bowl. Brother, Baja Fish tacos, sister had nachos. my mother had a blended jalapeño margarita she that had some good kick to it very good. She also had clam chowder and a small salad, there "small" salad was rather large salad. The clam chowder had bacon and green onion, which adds a good flavor. Everyone enjoyed their food. The only reason why I'm giving three stars is because the men's bathroom was horribly dirty, there seemed to be something wrong with the plumbing or something but it was overflowing according to the Men in our group and there was toilet water and toilet paper all over the floor, and the bathroom was unusable. Apparently, if you try to flush a toilet or a urinal, the water would come back at you. Our server was great, and the food came out in a reasonable amount of time. In my opinion it's a pretty nice restaurant, I was a bit disappointed with the lack of options, in the appetizer part of the menu, and some of the menu itself. It would have been nice to see more salad, options , or wrap options. I don't know if I would go back, but my mom loves this restaurant. So as long as she's happy I'm happy. read more

The family and I stopped in at Margaritaville for lunch as we made our way from San Francisco to Pacific Grove. The Mrs. and I happen upon Margaritaville during a previous visit to Capitola. To avoid any confusion, this Margaritaville is not affiliated with the Jimmy Buffet's Margaritaville empire. You can tell that from looking at the menu, the restaurant, and the staff. There are no cheeseburgers in paradise, no waiters in Margaritaville shirts, of Jimmy Buffet music playing in the background. Also, if you look up Margaritaville locations, Capitola, California doesn't register. Sorry Parrot Heads. The restaurant itself is nice. Very minimal in its decor, but still inviting and comfortable. The wait staff wear all black giving the place a high end vibe. The view is pretty good. The restaurant sits on the beach, but not ON the beach. Lissete was our server and did an incredible job. When we arrived shortly before noon, she was the only one waiting on tables at that point. There were 5 tables at that point and she made her job look effortless. When looking at the menu for Margaritaville, you can tell it is a Mexican restaurant. As I said, no cheeseburgers in paradise. Although, they do have clam chowder which my daughter ordered. When in Margaritaville, one must have Margaritas. The Mrs. had the House Margarita and I had the El Ultimo which was basically a Cadillac Margarita. We started our meal off with the nachos. Believe me, you don't need to add anything to them like beef or chicken. They are great as they are. The Mrs. had the Blackened Shrimp Tacos and I had the Garlic Shrimp which was really good. Even the vegetables that were mixed in with the shrimp were worthy of their own dish. Parking in Capitola can be tricky because there isn't a lot of it. The machines that you pay to park at can be temperamental. The streets are rather small and I got the vibe from driving through the surrounding neighborhood that the residents want the tourists, but they don't. So when visiting Capitola, stop by Margaritaville. Just don't expect to waste away and find the shaker is salt. read more

Typically between 4pm - 7pm
If one were to invite 30 or so friends to meet at the bar on a Friday late afternoon, would there be space either outside or inside to do this?
I don't think you could get 30 people at the bar and outdoor seating was limited. You might be able to get 30 people in the restaurant. Margaritaville isn't a huge place.
Do they allow dogs on patio?
We do allow dogs on the patio! We hope to see you soon!
Do they have a kids menu?
Yes! I have been there several times with my kids who are 3 and 4. The staff is always super friendly and we love the kids quesadilla.
