Great drinks! We didn't eat but food looked and smelled delicious. They are incredibly clean and take temperature upon entry. Great spot.

WE have visited almost every Margaritaville that there is in the world. We started this journey 30 years ago. We visited the one in Key West this week (FF) and we were hungry and thirsty, decided to eat. The wife got the Bacon Hamburger and I got the Teriyaki Shrimp and Chicken. The wife's food was ok but the bacon was not cooked and they forgot the cheese. Mine, not so much. The shrimp were frozen and very obvious along with the chicken. The rice was dry and the broccoli was bland. The shrimp was funny, because you could see the skewer from another imprinted on the back of the shrimp. After 2 bites, I was done with that train wreck. LOL!! Lucky for us the drinks were on point and so was our server. Now the Key Lime Pie was the best part, besides the drinks, of the whole meal. We did spend about $200 on shirts and stuff in the shop and was hoping the server would ask how was our meal. I think he could see from our faces it was not good. We paid our tab, grabbed another drink, and went to Caroline's to get some better food that was on point! I guess JBM restaurants have succumbed to Corporate ways and let the food quality go out the door. Sad really, but now we know to eat before going and just get drinks and have fun! read more

So, this is the original Margaritaville so I felt obligated to stop by as part of a long-time Buffet fan's pilgrimage. To be up front, we didn't have a drink or food here so I can't say anything about the food or drink. I will say the staff in the shop were friendly and helpful. There was an excellent selection of T-shirts and other Parrothead paraphernalia. I picked up several postcards to send to family back home along with a T-shirt I hadn't seen anywhere else. read more

Should have heeded the reviews and not patronized this place. First, I was surprised how small the restaurant was; it was close quarters in there. The "Cheeseburger in Paradise" was extraordinarily awful! Not warm. Tasteless. Cheese didn't even melt. Bun stale. The "Spinach and Artichoke Dip" was so-so; the tortilla chips for dipping were stale! Our food came out really fast which made me suspicious. Like maybe this stuff was just sitting around before we got there. We never got a refill on our drinks. The live music/singer was sooooo loud my daughter developed a headache! I had the PERFECT margarita! It was delicious. I could have had more but it wasn't lunch yet. We had nachos and we shared it. The waitress was very helpful in selecting the margaritas. My husband wanted to try this one margarita and she recommended a better one. Great service. read more

Margaritaville what is there to say? Awesome spot with a lot of history and great atmosphere. Located in the heart of key west it's tough to pass up. Didn't eat here pertly because I felt the cleanliness wasn't up to par/ menu wasn't too inspired either. Essentially exactly what you'd expect from a chain. One thing for sure though, service was great everyone was so nice and made you feel welcome. highlight of this place is the margaritas though. Made with fresh squeezed key lime juice it was absolutely perfect for a hot day on Duval. Disclaimer though they were SUPER acidic for the heartburn sensitive amongst us. We sat down an hour ago and ordered burgers. I ordered a margarita on the rocks with NO salt and 20 minutes later received a small tumbler glass with salt. When the server finally returned, I sent it back, she was rude about it and 10 minutes later brought be the same glass that still tasted like salt. Our food took over and hour to show and the burgers were okay. The crappy margarita was over $9 and sucked! Not that anyone doesn't already know this but Jimmy Buffett ought to be ashamed!!! You suck Jimmy!!! You've become the poster child for everything that you're music..(old music that didn't suck) was against. You will be remembered as a sell-out A-hole!!! We had high hopes with this being the original Margaritaville location, but we were greatly disappointed. The garlic burger tasted as if it was a pre-frozen patty heated up and there was no garlic flavoring to it. The fish & chips also tasted as if the fish was preformed and frozen to be heated up-not fresh at all. There are so many great restaurants in key west that serve fresh flavorful food we will keep to those instead. read more

For the namesake, this place is pretty slummy and sad. Restrooms are upstairs and in dire need of attention. Paid 350 for watered down iced tea and never even got offered a refill. As soon as we told our server we thought we had everything we needed, she was gone. I've been to much better margaritavilles, Jimmy you need to step it up over here in key west. read more

We ate here for lunch in mid-April. No wait to be seated. Our wait-person was really friendly and attentive but not in an annoying way. :D The ambience is fun... Who doesn't love Jimmy Buffets Margaritaville?! I thought the food might be kinda lame, but wanted to eat there anyways, just because of the name and to say we did. But we all were happily surprised. The food was seriously delicious!! I had the fish sandwich, which was YUM! The fries were really good and the sauce was the bomb, too. The rest of the family had the chicken strips. They were gorgeous huge chunks of white chicken meat, perfectly fried with light batter. They were all raving about them. I don't even eat chicken and they looked good enough to eat! We didn't partake in any alcoholic beverages, but the food was excellent. Wish we had one near home. read more

Typical tourist trap; but that being said, it's A-OK! Stopped here with 2 friends one afternoon for a round of drinks and some nachos. Drinks were strong and serving size of the nachos was accordingly Red State; we all left with happily clogged arteries and cirrhosed livers. People watching is AMAZING -- drunken midwestern birthday parties in matching t-shirts ("McKENZIE IS 30!!!!!"), retired dentists with leathery, sunbaked WalMart trophy wives, miserable young families with squalling, puke-stained MargaritaTots barfing existential despair all over their Tommy-Bahama-For-Baby onesies under the aegis of proud RVer grandparents. In other words....fun as fuck, and about as Key West as you can get without a 12" fist-shaped strap-on!!! I would (and undoubtedly WILL, Dog willing) gladly come back here again!!!! read more

I went down to Margaritaville once before. That place is the worst. There was this one day in particular that I remember. It was raining and I wanted to get a bite to eat. I asked the local, Spider John, if he knew of a good spot. He said I had to try the Beach House on the Moon, because they had the best burgers in Paradise. Spider gave us directions. It was in this One Particular Harbor, and it took forever to get there. It felt like I was taking A Thousand Steps to Nowhere. There were Barefoot Children in the Rain everywhere. I kept thinking that they should put on some shoes before one of them steps on a pop-top. When I got to the Beach House on the Moon, I looked like a Cowboy in the Jungle, I mean I'm no Son of a Son of a Sailor, if you know what I mean. I sat down at the bar to get some food and Boat Drinks. The place was run by a couple of Fruitcakes named Frank and Lola. Frank had a Pencil-thin Moustache and Lola looked how a Pirate Looks at Forty. They really had the Island Fever. Frank came up to me and said something like, "What can I get for you Jolly Mon?" Seriously, lets drop the Jolly Mon shit. I ordered the Barometer Soup and a cheeseburger. It felt like my food was on A Slow Boat to China. The soup came out cold, and I had to wait even longer for the cheeseburger. It was like the cook Went to Paris. I mean how hard is it to get A Cheeseburger in Paradise? After eating the worst burger in Paradise, I wished that I had A Money Back Guarantee. I had a smoke and another drink. I noticed a girl walk in a sit at the other end of the bar. I called Frank over and asked, "Who's the Blond Stranger?" He said, "You mean Little Miss Magic over there?" "Yeah, Frank, the Brown Eyed Girl," I barked back. He shook his finger at me and slyly said, "The Wino and I Know." Seriously, what the fuck does that mean Frank, buddy ol buddy. Dickhead. I heard the stranger call Frank over. He left me to tend her. He said to her, "Hey Good Looking." She flirted back, "I Heard I was in Town." After Frank got her some Grapefruit-Juicy Fruit alcohol drink, he whispered something in her ear. She looked up at me and shouted across the bar, "The Weather is Here, Wish You Were Beautiful." I figured a little Changes in Latitude, might give me a Change in Attitude, so I walked over to where she was. At First Look, I thought she was a Honey Do, but when I got a littler closer I thought, Who We Trying To Fool. The Stars may have fallen on Alabama, but not her. I guess I was Playing The loser Again. But she was The Last Mango in Paris so I figured why not try to Reason with The Hurricane Season and knock a few back with her. I've done worse. We got to talking and she said, "Why Don't We Get Drunk and Screw." So we got drunk, real real drunk. I pretty much cashed in at the Bank of Bad Habits and was down for Anything, Anytime, Anywhere. We started to dance, she was awful, but I still got hard. I guess there is Nothing Soft About Hard Times. I heard one of the locals say, "They Don't Dance Like Carmen Anymore." Fuck, even the locals knew I had me a Nottie. We partied pretty late. At that point there was no one there except Vampires, Mummies, and the Holy Ghost. I called Frank over and asked him if with could get a bottle of rum to go. He looked over at the stranger, then at me. He gave me the bottle. I went to grab it from him but he pulled it back a little, and looked me in the eyes. He said, "Treat Her Like A Lady." Yeah right Frank, you must be Havana Daydreamin', cause she was Off To See The Lizard. We left together singing, "Ho, Ho, Ho and a Bottle of Rum." I Don't Know, and I Don't Care what happened after that. I awoke in the morning, and When the Coast was Clear, I split the hell out of there. I left her a note that said: If The Phone Doesn't Ring, It's Me. I have a feeling she will find me though, claiming the kid is mine, I mean Everybody's Got A Cousin in Miami. For now, I have nothing to show but this brand new tattoo. And some people claim that there's a woman to blame, but I know its my own damn fault. Margaritaville is probably one of those places you get dragged to by unhip relatives who live in the Keys (or by overzealous, freshly minted college students who have just now discovered Jimmy Buffett). If you're up for embracing the cheesy, "it's always five o'clock somewhere / no shirt, no shoes, no problem" experience, or at least up for accepting or tolerating it, you can handle Margaritaville and maybe even enjoy yourself a little. The service is friendly and attentive, the drinks are adventurous and conspicuously 'boaty,' and the food is... about average. I went there for the first time in nine years this past week, and I was pleased to discover that the restaurant now includes options for those who would prefer their BOCABURGER or TURKEYBURGER in paradise to the ole' cheeseburger. c'est la mode, I suppose, and a good thing, too. Don't go here if you're in a hurry because nobody here is. Then again, if you're in a hurry, what the hell are you doing in Key West?! read more

I never thought I'd give a Margaritaville three stars, much less think about giving them four. As mentioned in my review for the Orlando Margaritaville, I'm not a fan of Buffett and find the Orlando location to be rather annoying. But dealing with it is something I do to make the wife happy - and so I grudgingly went into the original Margaritaville. Wow. You'd almost never know the two locations are part of the same chain. Sure, there's Buffett paraphernalia everywhere - and they play some of his videos on the projection screen - and they serve the same food and drinks. What is completely different is the atmosphere and vibe. THIS is a place I was happy to sit back and down a few drinks at (aside from the horrendous music). No giant erupting volcano. No stilt walkers. No singing and dancing servers. In fact, we mentioned the comparison to our server and she agreed that ours sounded kind of terrible. The drinks were nice and strong, though the specialty margaritas drinks can be a little pricey. Even if you don't like Land Shark beer normally, try a "Loaded" one. They top off the bottle of Land Shark with tequila. Shoot through it on your first sip and it completely changes the flavor of the beer. We didn't get the food, but we've had it from a few other locations, and it's always been roughly the same: decent, but unspectacular burgers, great and huge nachos, mediocre to poor everything else. Margaritaville is a stop along the way, usually not the destination. That being said, the name at least begets a decent amount of business just because of the name. I can only comment on this place for drinks, as we stopped here as a watering hole on our way down Duval, but then again I'm sure that's this place's bread and butter anyway. It was a Saturday afternoon and it was starting to get hot, so we decided to wet our whistles, with a little tequila. Whatever-it was our staycation. We pulled in here and informed the hostess that we were only getting drinks and that wasn't told to the waitress, which could have been communicated, but oh well. The 4 of us ended up getting 3 different versions of marg-one strawberry, one mango, and mine which was the "perfect". And I have to say, it was pretty damn good. Not sweet, no terrible aftertaste of tequila, just the right amount of lime, and a salted glass with the right amount of ice. I think the name was just right. I have to say that if you're going to have a name like "Margaritaville", deliver. Shockingly, I usually don't order margs even at the Margaritaville 20 minutes from my house-I order my usual wine. But this was a weekend away. Getting our drinks was quick and service was friendly, and there was some music in the background that wasn't too kitschy, which was nice. We ended up getting the check decently quickly which is something that is always overlooked when needed-one person in the party had forgotten a pair of glasses that desperately needed to be retrieved. What a disappointment. Lousy lukewarm food that lacked any sense of creativity. An inattentive, disinterested waitress. Overpriced food and booze. Did I mention that the service was terrible? My friend ordered a jack and coke. It didn't taste like jack and coke. He brought it to the bartenders attention and the bartender just dumped his drink out and gave him a water. He said, "I am not going to give you the same drink I just gave you if you don't like it. You think the bottle will be different?" He didn't offer a resolution. My first experience at the bar was this woman bartender who made everyone nervous. She couldn't stop stretching and touching towels, stabbing lime and lemons shooting them across the bar, stuffing towels under the equipment, and making the drinks as fast as she could like she was in a race. She just attacked the bar. The drink was fine nothing special. So we left and came back the next day. Different bartender way more relaxed and enjoyable. Here it's different but everyone including me felt they had to go in Key West because it's Key West. The pictures we took were just of us in front of it no need to take pictures of the food. It's nothing unusual. He had fish tacos and I had catch of the day. It was too over done not the cooking but sauces and stuff on it. I like it clean and simple. I am a purist when it comes to sea food and if I have sauce on fish it has to be blended to perfection and this wasn't. The one in Orlando was better. Jimmy Buffet is a marketing genius.
