As a restaurateur, Jimmy Buffett makes a great musician. Wife's fish tacos were far from satisfactory. My fish and chips were generous proportions and not bad. The spinach artichoke dip was probably the highlight of the meal. The service definitely left something to be desired as we sat waiting for refills on drinks for over ten minutes once, having to eventually flag down another waitress. This occurred late at night when they were not busy. Overall, the food is ok, nothing special, and the service is subpar. Unless you're an incurable Parrothead, I wouldn't bother, there are too many other good places to eat in the vicinity. read more

My first experience at the bar was this woman bartender who made everyone nervous. She couldn't stop stretching and touching towels, stabbing lime and lemons shooting them across the bar, stuffing towels under the equipment, and making the drinks as fast as she could like she was in a race. She just attacked the bar. The drink was fine nothing special. So we left and came back the next day. Different bartender way more relaxed and enjoyable. Here it's different but everyone including me felt they had to go in Key West because it's Key West. The pictures we took were just of us in front of it no need to take pictures of the food. It's nothing unusual. He had fish tacos and I had catch of the day. It was too over done not the cooking but sauces and stuff on it. I like it clean and simple. I am a purist when it comes to sea food and if I have sauce on fish it has to be blended to perfection and this wasn't. The one in Orlando was better. Jimmy Buffet is a marketing genius. The "Perfect Margarita" was far from perfect, especially for $9.50. Tiny glass filled with ice and VERY little alcohol. Manager stopped by to ask how everything was. This is the original location for Jimmy Buffet's Margaritaville restaurant chain. And though chains often don't have the best reputations, this one is plenty of fun! I very much enjoyed my lunch of Seafood Mac & Cheese (huge portions, very yummy) and a large Strawberry Daiquiri. I almost opted for the quintessential (and trademarked) Cheeseburger in Paradise, but I'm a big lover of shrimp and crab, especially on vacation. The meal and the service did not disappoint. Such negative reviews! My mom and I really enjoyed it. The BLT was huge with lots of meat and the fries were hot and crispy. I had the BBQ cheeseburger and it was delish too. We really could have split a sandwich and been full. The onion rings were my favorite part of the meal - crispy on the outside and the onion was cooked perfectly on the inside. Dip it in a little ranch and I was a very happy girl. We came at a slower time mid-afternoon so not a lot of people inside. But when I came in no one even acknowledged me. I waited patiently and tried to make eye contact with someone to get seated but no one even looked my way. Someone finally came over when a large group came in behind us. The server made up for a rough start. She was there within a few minutes of us sitting down and kept our drinks full throughout the meal and our food came out hot. Unfortunately we did not get Margaritas. But it was still good music, good decorations (I loved the starry sky) and good times. Wish we could have stayed for a show! read more

Service was horrible. Our waiter was watching ESPN right in the middle of service. Took 10 minutes for refills. My wife ordered a burger and it was undercooked. The beef was pink when she requested it well done. Never going back again. It was over hyped. The price isn't cheap exactly, not worth the quality or quantity. The bathrooms was in decent shapeish. This review is based solely on their drinks and their shitter. I got a a 'Perfect Margarita' which was good. A little overpriced but you have to figure they will jack it up for Parrot Heads(I am not). The biggest problem was the bathroom... I have been to better bathrooms at a frat house. Rest room by day, ferrel cat sanctuary by night. It is assaulting to the senses and is as visually appealing as a high school locker room. Ok...so I admit I stopped at Margaritaville. I became the ultimate tourist. I even bought tons of useless parot-phinalia at the gift store next store. The food is typical American fare (Cheeseburgers in Paradise anyone?) with menu items paying homage to various Buffett hits. The thing that keeps my husband & I coming back? The bar. The bartenders are great. Not only do they make a great drink but they also freely offer their opinions on different places to try and make conversation as well. We've been there enough that we now have favorites when we visit. (Skip & Jen). Skip makes a mean rum runner and keeps you laughing. Shame he is leaving this summer. I put one star because it's the lowest. It was supposed to be a happy day, but it was a sad day at margaritaville. Ordered watermelon margaritas which tasted like straight up mix-horrible. They were kind enough to exchange drinks which we would have expected. Bad margarita at margarita ville? Calamari tasted Like little circles of oil- no flavor- clearly frozen. They make such a big deal over their "hand battered" thing, everything on the menu is most likely frozen and then fried. Coconut shrimp had coconut on it, but that was about it, no additional flavor. Dipping sauce tasted like it came straight out of a jar of orange marmalade. Prices are high, which is to be expected on duval st, but that doesn't justify serving such low qual food and drank. Server was nice, apologetic and tried her best, but we would never eat there again. Ever. Oh. The key lime pie was satisfactory but guessing that's not made in house. I've been to a few of Jimmy Buffett's Margaritaville restaurants and this one was a little below average the other ones. This Margaritaville is situated right in the heart of Duval street in a great location. Unfortunately, the building is very small compared to his other sites. The food was just sort of average. I ordered a chicken sandwich and a "last mango in Paris" margarita. The drink was honestly just so so and the chicken sandwich was just okay. If you're staying for a week or more in Key West it might be worth stopping by but anything shorter than that and I'd recommend a few other places first. read more

While recently in town friends and I decided to check out the "original Margaritaville..." Unfortunately that is 1.5 hours of my life I will never get back! Since this is the original restaurant I was expecting the food/service/atmosphere to be superb, but the restaurant fell short in many ways (I've been to the location at Universal Studios and it was about 10-15 times better than this one.) First of all, when we arrived apparently they were having problems with their register system and had to use paper/hand-written receipts...we were immediately made aware of this by the hostess and (manager?) who both gave us looks as if they were inconvenienced by our arrival, before proceeding to bicker with each other...unacceptable! Once we were seated we ordered the nachos to start...although they tasted decent, it was really just a big plate of sloppy mess. I ordered the fish tacos which were very much "just ok," nothing special at all. My 2 friends each had sandwiches (one burger, one chicken) which were also just very average. For drinks 2 of us ordered Margaritas, and, seeing as this was Margaritaville were expecting them to be one of the better ones we've had...I can honestly say, hands down that it was the worst margarita I've ever had! (It tasted like a glass of rum with a small dash of sugar in it.) The food was also way overpriced for what it was worth... The only positive part of the dinner was our waitress who was very friendly and apologized for the hostess/manager's behavior...by the visual look of frustration she showed it appeared this wasn't the first time this has happened... She was also very helpful in suggesting local places to check out while in town. Overall the food and atmosphere were very bland and overpriced, and your money would be better spent elsewhere...there are several restaurants in the area that are far better than this! read more
