My husband and I went in late one Saturday evening tired and hungry. Jonathan was playing music and he did a fantastic job. What a treat listening to him. We ate at the bar and everything was served hot with little wait time. Even with a big bachelor party upstairs the kitchen did not delay our meals. We had a great time. A little understated...compared to his newer locations, but we had a good time. I guess if you don't compare it to the Margaritaville in Grand Turk (with a gigantic free pool to lounge by, pool bar to swim up to or wave pool to learn to surf on) or the one in Grand Cayman with an indoor pool - then it ranks a moderate 3 instead of a 2 ("Meh"). The place was only half full but the house band was pretty good. The bathrooms were hard to find (upstairs and around a corner - and impossible if you were wasted) but the colorful and festive decor was cool. I can't rate the food because we didn't eat, but we had fun ordering "Loaded beers" (Corona's with a shot of vodka). The friend who brought us here refers to this as his "Church" (he's a huge Jimmy Buffet fan) so his review would be higher since this was the original...alas, I was just hoping for a tad bit more flash. read more

Good place to stop for an afternoon snack and drink. The ambience was nice and fun, the decor had lots of character, and the service (we sat at the bar) was courteous and speedy. The food was nothing spectacular but no complaints either. We didn't order any margaritas since we are not fans of tequila, but everyone else seemed to enjoy theirs and the restaurant just had a fun vibe to it. You can't beat the original. First off, those frozen banana drinks were fantastic! If you like banana, you gotta get it. If you on't like banana, get it anyway! As far as real food goes, I can recommend the mahi blackened sandwich. It was made just right and really hit the spot. I also have to give credit to the kitchen staff; the restaurant was so crowded but our food still came out in a timely fashion. That is hard to pull off. We came here because we got a discount after shopping in the store adjacent to the restaurant. I'm glad they steered us this way. I still wear those sandals too! read more

!!!!ABSOLUTELY DISGUSTING!!!!! I have been to several Margaritaville locations in the past and had a very good experience. This was an exception. I ate here on the evening of December 18th with my two children and ordered the Cajun Salmon with spinach and rice. The service was ok, but the dish tasted a bit odd. I attributed it to the seasoning and ate most of it. Within a couple hours of leaving, I became violently sick vomiting everything I ate and more and had a gut wrenching stomach pain that lasted into the early morning. I called the restaurant as soon as the opened in the morning, complaining of possible food poisoning and asked for a manager - I spoke to Ronnie. She said she couldn't do anything and said here general manager Michael would call me at 3pm. I received no calls from Michael that day and called again the next day. He said he received notice of my call, but was "too busy". I explained what happened and he tried to blame an allergy to their Jerk seasoning. I said that seems impossible as I have Jerk seasoning at many other restaurants often. He claimed that food poisoning would take at least 24 hours. He claimed he would call the health department and they would call me after they investigated. After two weeks, I have received no call. I asked Michael what he was going to do for me as a result of this poor experience and he said, "nothing" - no offer to refund my meal, provide a credit, absolutely nothing. I didn't believe that food poisoning took 24 hours, so I investigated. I found the following at "https://www.poison.org/articles/2009-jun/what-you-cant-smell-can-hurt" , "Ciguatera fish poisoning causes nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, muscle weakness, joint aches, headache, dizziness, and low blood pressure. A characteristic symptom is "hot-cold reversal"; hot items feel cold and cold items feel hot. Symptoms may begin within 15 minutes to 24 hours after eating affected fish." which matched my symptoms exactly. So, Margaritaville fed me bad fish, was not responsive when I called, lied to me and did absolutely nothing to remedy the situation. If you want to get sick and have zero response from management, this is your place. I will never go to any Margaritaville again and will tell all my family and friends to stay clear. No trip to Key West is complete without wastin' away (again) in Margaritaville. Honestly though, they make a great marg. I was expecting an over sugared touristy drink, but I was wrong. The margarita had the perfect amount of tang, tequila, and salt. It is a fun and laid back atmosphere and they play Jimmy Buffett and friends videos day in and day out. I didn't get a chance to have a Cheeseburger in Paradise on this trip, but have in the past and have enjoyed it. You gotta stop in when in KW! read more

As an Ohioan, the only Margaritaville I had been to was the one in Cincinnati (I think it's since closed). I wasn't a fan of that one because it's all about beach vibes and then you walk back outside and you're in Cincinnati. Just didn't work out and was a disappointment. So I was excited to try Key West's Margaritaville since it fits the target environment and since Key West was apparently special to Jimmy Buffet himself. I was flying solo for my Key West vaca, so I sat at the bar on what was my last night there. I knew I had to get a Margarita and the bartender had mentioned the Last Mango in Paris. I wanted a fruit marg and I usually like mango flavored things so I ordered that. Honestly I wouldn't recommend it. It tasted super heavy on the artificial mango side and I tasted no real alcohol, just the artificial flavoring. I wish I would have looked at the margarita menu longer because there had to have been better ones than that. I am a big burger fan (see many of my other past reviews) and my friend had recommended getting the Cheeseburger in Paradise. It sounded great but was just average overall. I would have liked it to be a little more juicy. The fries were also average. I would have preferred a little more seasoning in them (kind of like Texas Roadhouse steak fries or the seasoning that Red Robin has). Lastly, I ordered the key lime pie because I was sampling as many slices as I could while in Key West. This one was just ok. The bartender said that they make it fresh there every day which I like (definitely prefer that over a boxed one!). But it was just ok. I had 8 slices total while in Key West and I would say this one ranked 5th or 6th. I just don't like when the pie has that glossy looking coating on it (maybe I'm just a bad judge of key lime pie. Maybe it's supposed to look like that?) But it made it look plastic-y and the taste was just ok. A tad too much lime for me. I just like a subtle hint of lime. Which, again, is probably why I should not be judging key lime pie. I can honestly say what made my Margaritaville visit truly enjoyable was another solo traveler sitting next to me named Kory from Clarksville, TN. He was a pretty cool guy and I enjoyed his company throughout dinner. But since not everyone will have a Kory at Margaritaville, I can't really weigh that into my rating. But still enjoyable that the Margaritaville culture attracts others that are interesting and fun I guess! Overall, stop in here for a marg or two. The food isn't necessarily a must have. But it's cool to at least say you went to the Key West Margaritaville. And if you're flying solo, I hope you can have a barseat neighbor as cool as Kory! read more

My husband had the jambalaya - said it was delicious. I had a burger, which was also good, but I asked for medium, and it was rare. They made good on it, though, so great customer service. This is the original Margaritaville in Florida. If you have have been to any of the others- it is very small with a limited selection of food. I have been to the Orlando one and now Key West. Although the good selection was very limited, the service was great. Maude was our server and she never met out drinks get to the bottom before we had fresh margaritas to continue using the excuse that the drinks were for 'medicinal purposes' for our sun burns (it surely did help) If you are looking for our of the ordinary or great seafood- this is not the place- but it was a clean with great service. read more

I finally made it to Key West, Florida, and had to go to the most iconic of restaurants. Great location, and atmosphere, and... that's it. The menu would is very dated and forced (where is your 15 pieces of flair?) and the service is vet slow and carefree. On a slow day it takes 20 minutes to get a drink, and the nachos were soggy after the 30 minutes it takes to get. When we asked for an extra side of jalapeños, the response we got from the waitress was an abrupt, "you know that's an extra 50 cents, right?" All in all, the atmosphere is great. The location is spectacular. I hope they can improve on service and quality of food of this restaurant other than a glorified chilis with Jimmy Buffetts name on it. read more

OK, why I wasn't expecting this to be a major tourist trap was beyond me, but I was hoping..... Overall, this is a fun atmosphere - a little pricey (it's Key West, so, yeah...) - $45.00 for 2 margaritas and a plate of nachos with sides. The food was filling. Kirby was our waiter and it seemed like they had him going at 100 mph, so kudos to him for getting the order, getting it out in a fairly reasonable time and checking on us a couple of times (although I must say, it did seem like he had a good number of tables to serve!!) This is definitely a parrot-head hangout, so I'll leave it up to you to decide - if your choice is for novelty, definitely stop by, but with loads of other really great eateries on the key, this is just so-so if it's for the food!! read more

Sitting in the restaurant right now with three other friends in Key West. They ordered conch fritters, onion rings, and fish. All tasted frozen cooked food. I ordered the New York steak. The 12 oz New York Strip looked like a steak bought from Waffle House. That steak was $28. I was so disappointed that I turned in the entire dinner and refused to eat at this establishment. My friends chose to eat their sub par food but was not happy . Especially for the cost. If I could give a lower score then one star, I would. By the way, if you get a Margarita in their souvenir cup, expect to pay at least $17 for your first drink. One thing I will say is that they didn't charge me for the steak.
