It's iconic. Located in the heart of downtown, don't skip on this experience. Offering both bar and table seating, the service is quick and the menu is darling. I would only come here for breakfast because it's served all day and I'm a brunch fanatic. Contrary, a lunch menu is offered and they are supposedly known for their salad bar and soup to which I saw a few tables ordering. I opted in for the breakfast sandwhich which was the right size for me. Many spots these days give way too much food and this was just enough. It even came with two hash brown triangles like the ones from middle school bringing back all the nostalgia. Zero crumbs were left. The service & decor was great, but the 2 breakfast entrees that were ordered couldn't have been more different. I had the biscuits & gravy. I read a review that said the gravy is spicy, and it is, but... It's not a hot spicy but from the seasonings they use. It was just ok in my book. It's really hard to beat my grandmas. The biscuit was dry and my OM eggs were hard. Our server did remove the charge for my eggs. The pancake is HUGE! It was also light & fluffy, as were the scrambled eggs. Both were delicious. I can only speak to a quick lunch here, but this place is often quite busy when i walk by! I had the soup/salad bar. The salad bar was 10/10 in terms of offerings. I had the lobster bisque and it was good, but not amazing in terms of overall flavor palette - just a bit bland. That said, the salad bar took the review to 5 stars due to quality and the number of offerings, not easy to pull off in a small venue! Great lunch stop! read more

Actually thought the place was pretty good and very crowded with pretty large size groups for such a small place. Their coffee service is odd, self service on a separate cabinet but I had a hard time finding a cup (mug) that was actually fully clean including coffee staining. Just a quick dip in chlorinated water would do the trick. Also, didn't like at all the fact that my sour cream add to the breakfast burrito was a sealed plastic squeeze pouch that was also covered in the cheese sauce the spread over the burrito making it very messy to use/open. read more

I wanted a place with something "different" on the menu and I got it! While I didn't get adventurous with my order, I appreciated all the unique offerings. I'm not a big eater, so I was limited, but this would be a fun place to come with a group to share food with one another. I sat at the bar and the staff was friendly and attentive. What a seriously cute spot in Fargo! It's right downtown with plenty of street parking. The decor is very 70s and quirky, with a huge collection if salt and pepper shakers. One of us got the biscuits and gravy which was delicious, and the breakfast burrito didn't disappoint. I got the salad and soup bar, because what a fun throwback! The salad bar is stacked with delicious veggies, cheese, pickled toppings, croutons and so many things I couldn't believe it. The service was so friendly and efficient. I went during lunch time on a Friday, maybe 4 other groups in there dinning in. So it wasn't busy at all which i love! First thing i noticed was the coziness and warmth of the place. Maybe 4 seconds after i walked in i was greeted by a sweet girl. It was decorated with Christmas decorations. I was told this place gives off cute and cozy grandma's house for Christmas so you know i had to go check it out. I saw only 2 employees, 1 bartender and 1 waitress but no one ever had to wait for anything. They were always moving and making sure their tables were good which i can appreciate. Once my food was ready another employee brought it to me from the kitchen, and she was so sweet as well. She explained to me how they have an unlimited salad bar when you order a salad from the menu. The music was this 80s to 90s disco playlist with a mix of Christmas music in there. I LOVED it!!! Great vibe. When my order came i was shocked at how big the pancake really was. Even though I've seen pictures of it, i still didn't think it would be that big! It tasted pretty awesome, my eggs were sunny side up, the sausage was cooked perfectly, the maple syrup tasted homemade, and the pancake..... well i demolished it!! Our server put ice cubes in my daughters' hot chocolates so that they could drink them as soon as they came out. The food is delicious. I came alone and thought it would be nice to dine at the bar. When I sat down I wasn't greeted with a smile. The bar tender look at me perplexed. I asked for a menu and he said I wasn't able to sit. I have never been to a bar that wasn't open seating. I travel the world as a FA and I have never been treated so ugly. I was embarrassed, felt unwelcome and almost left in tears. Ate lunch with family today. My daughter had the french toast weekend special that had yogurt on it, was an interesting idea and not bad. Her boyfriend had a burger and said it was good, said it reminded him of the burgers you would get in the old diners. I ordered the fried chicken on a biscuit. Was very disappointing; it was a thin pounded chicken breaded and very dry. The biscuit was small, thin, and overcooked also. There was a SMALL drizzle of honey on the biscuit but not enough to save the lunch. I was excited to try Marge's. I had heard about it on the radio a few months ago. One of the things they touted was the Salad bar. I felt today would a great day to give the salad bar a shot since I was just wandering around town just waiting on my daughter and her friend to finish shopping. I arrived at 1:40 pm. Well before the 3pm closing time. I ordered the salad bar and a coke. When I went to the salad bar it was picked over but I was able put together a small salad and went back to my seat. I ask my waitress if she could refill the cottage cheese and ham. She said "Maybe. The salad bar closes at 2". **She actually did refill those two items but I could tell she was annoyed** I then went to get some soup. I had to scrape the bottom of the broth to get any meat and was lucky to get a piece of vegetable and I think I even got a potato. The soup probably would have tasted pretty good had their been some. The biggest annoyance was not being made to feel welcome and that I was a pain for ordering the salad bar so late in the day. I will say the second waiter who kind of noticed I was being ignored was nice and polite and ended up closing me out. I usually give a business two shots before making my final decision. The decor has serious vintage vibes, all the oranges and browns and golds of the 70s, with collections of glassware, salt and pepper shakers, and decorative plates like they cleaned out my grandma's kitchen! Tl;dr: Small town diner feel, with great food and pleasant staff. Has a very old school/small town diner feel. The coffee mugs are a random hodge-podge collection, and you can serve yourself. The chairs are all mis-matched, and I'm pretty confident the booths are old Church pews. I can't overstate how awesome the vibe is in this place. It feels like the embodiment of the anti-corporate diner. Instead of everything being bland and devoid of any life, everything feels well worn and lived in without being dirty. I had the Biscuits and Gravy, and while the gravy wasn't the color I'm used to the taste was absolutely phenomenal. Having been born and raised in the south, I'm always hesitant to eat staples like that at restaurants around the area, but I was more than pleasantly surprised. I drink my coffee black, and it was very smooth and enjoyable without the over-brewed incredibly bitter taste that most places have. Service was great as well! Food came out quickly enough that I didn't feel the wait was too long, but not so fast that it felt like they had it ready before I sat down. The waiter came by and checked on my table a few times, not enough to feel bothered but just enough to feel welcomed. Overall, I absolutely loved my experience and look forward to eating here again. Guarantee you will be waiting 20 min just to get your name on the wait list after you have to assertively go up to the bar to get your name on the list. You'll state at an open table before it's seated. Suggest have some snack with your or have a little food before you come to this diner. Definitely not recommend coming here hungry. If you go in with more than just yourself, be prepared to have the waitress ask you what you want to drink before you get a chance to sit down and only take one person's order and then forget half of it. So, I wanted to love this place; and there are elements that I do. The theme/decor is kitschy and retro and takes me back to the 70's. That being said, let's get on to the food. The first thing you'll notice when you walk in the door besides the ridiculously large collection of salt and pepper shakers is the overwhelming odor of grease (this should have caused me to turn around and walk out- but it's winter in Fargo and so cold I didn't feel like walking anywhere else). I ordered a burger with tater tots. The menu stated local beef - I had high expectations. The soft delicious bun (locally -kinda) made was delicious. The burger was over cooked and under (as in none) seasoned. The tater tots were standard and fine but entire plate of food was only moderately warm. Disappointing when based on the smell of the place, deep frying is something that happens frequently. The portions are on the large side, the pickles on the burger (extra fee) were tasty and the cheese was your typically burger joint American cheese (which is what I ordered and expected). All I all, sadly this place isn't living up to the hype. Will I go there again? Maybe. But the have to figure something out about the overwhelming grease smell -- and soon. I'm currently washing my jacket as the grease smell seems to have permeated it and followed me home. read more

Food was good, the chicken fried steak was better than most. was told the burger and fries were good too. Toast did not come buttered, or if it was you could hardly find the butter.
