If you are thinking of using Dr. Sarita Wang for a Frenectomy, tongue tie release, I would recommend finding another Dr. Besides her office being incompetent, detailed below, she is out of her league with the procedure. After seeing another dentist so much of how she preforms the procedure is incorrect and could leave your child needing follow up corrective procedures. We brought our 5 week old to have a tongue tie corrected as it was painful for both of us causing him intense pain as he was not latching properly and swallowing too much air. We saw the Dr. on Monday, she saw the tongue tie and said to schedule the procedure for Wednesday. She told us on top of our pain how bad tongue tie would be as he grew up and cause cavities. Later that afternoon I received a call from Janet, the office admin, wanting his medical records from his pediatrician. I explained we did a home birth and his primary care was our midwife. We have seen a pediatrician but she spent less than 5 minutes with him and never looked at his tongue so wouldn't be a good reference. I asked what they wanted and was told his medical and immunization records to show he has his Vitamin K shot. She reached out to our midwife, when our midwife called back she left a voicemail saying that she recommended his tongue tie procedure, confirmed he has his vitamin K shot, and to fax her if they need any other information or documentation. They never faxed her so she assumed they didn't need her further. I called Tuesday afternoon to make sure everything was a go. Janet told me she received the voicemail confirming the vitamin k and we were all set. I get a call on Wednesday at 10 am from Janet saying the voicemail wasn't enough they need his physical medical records. I brought them with me to our 11am appointment. At 11:30, 30 minutes late, they take us back to the room where the dental assistant is getting the laser ready. At 11:37 the doctor walks in to say she doesn't have a referral from the midwife and won't preform the procedure. At no point did anyone mention a referral, I called to ask if we were all set and was told yes, nobody reached out to my midwife for referral info or faxed her. The office dropped the ball and took zero accountability. The Dr. proceeded to tell me that if it was medically necessary and I had an infection she would preform it. I am a new mom with a newborn who is screaming and crying in pain with gas which is affecting both of our sleep. My nipples hurt constantly. I want to breast feed for 12+ months but won't be able to with his tongue tie. I said this to the Dr. but she did no deem it medically important. I had the midwife on the phone while she was driving but they wouldn't take a verbal referral they needed it formally in writing. She wouldn't be able to produce that until the afternoon. All Doctors take the Hippocratic Oath to do no harm. Dr. Sarita Wang chose to leave a newborn in pain instead of preforming a minimally invasive procedure. She could see the tongue tie. Women and mothers need to be heard in medical settings, not dismissed. We left with me in tears. My husband talked to the doctor and she said when they get the written request from the midwife they will call us and we can come in. We received a call from the Dr. at 4pm saying "we don't have a good aura" and need to find another dentist. She and her office are completely incompetent. Instead of owning their mistakes and fixing them she deflects as if we are in the wrong. Textbook gaslighting. I informed the Dr. that our insurance should not be billed. She said to take that up with the accountant and hung up. I did an unmedicated home birth to have as little medical interventions as possible. If my baby didn't need this procedure I would not be there. After talking to my midwife she said it was divine intervention and recommended a different dentist. The other dentist was amazing, night and day difference. He also diagnosed a lip tie Dr. Wang said he did not have. Dr. Wang was going to have me hold my baby down when she preformed the procedure the new Dr took my baby out of the room and brought him back to me for comfort and relief. Dr. Wang said we didn't need to do exercises to ensure it doesn't fuse back together. She said babies are oral enough to not need it. The new Dr. said we have to do them or the procedure would be pointless. There is a difference in a Dr. who has preformed the Frenectomy hundreds of times and one who hasn't. I believe Dr. Wang was not confident in her ability to preform the procedure and tried to blame it on "our aura." read more

My son has special needs and his situation is pretty complicated. I got referred by another mom whose son also has special needs. Therefore, I went with some sort of hope. I am VERY VERY pleased with Dr. Sarita Wang and her team. They are all Wonderful people that truly wanted to help. She went an extra mile and reached out to her network when my son needed the additional consultation with another oral surgeon. I am very grateful to have found Dr. Sarita Wang. Also, the nurse, Janet, is just a true Rockstar! She is very detailed oriented and coordinates the surgery for my son with multiple surgeons in a very professional manner. Update based on our last visit in September. We have decided not to see Dr. Maria again. I waited a couple of months before writing this review because I was really upset at the time (my husband was livid). My daughter was a little difficult at her last visit. She's 3 now and is more scared of things than she used to be. Dr. Maria had no patience for her and demanded that we hold her down so that she could do the cleaning. She didn't even bother trying to build a rapport with her or to ease her fears. Maybe Dr. Maria had a bad day. I don't care. She holds herself out to be a children's dentist and so should be prepared to work with all children--not just the docile ones. read more

I would not take my child there EVER..... I have been taking my daughter to Dr. Maria (aganun)-Fu for past couple of years.Just because I thought she is the only specialist in the area at that time. Every time we go there , there is a new dental assistant, new receptionist, and we feel like we are in a new office. Dr. has the worst repetition among her employees. She has such a bad temper and we saw it few times that she through the instrument to the counter because the assistant didn't give her the right one. She even keeps her dog in the office and goes back and fort to the dog and with the same lab coat and UN washed hands she gets back to treat children!!!! She is also super expensive...... The best word to describe Dr. Fu and Dr. Wang is incompetent! We took our 4 year old daughter in for a checkup with Dr Fu and received a clean checkup, no problems. Then 6 months later we returned for another checkup, Dr. Wang said "your daughter has text book perfect teeth. Then 6 months later back for another checkup and to our shock Dr. Wang informed us that our daughter now has 8 cavities!! One or two so bad that they would most likely need a pulpectomy!! We were so surprised and shocked. So I had another Dentist review the X-rays and his opinion was that Dr. Fu and Dr. Wang should have at least seen the two deep cavities. So even after this incompetence, I tried to be reasonable and give Dr. Wang the benefit of the doubt and asked her if she would do the work for a 50% discount since she was at least partially responsible. However, she refused and offered a 10% discount, which was basically nothing since I was a cash client and usually get a 5-10% discount anyway! So I filed a complaint with Dental Board of California www.dbc.ca.gov and will let them take it from here! So hopefully they will investigate and see how this was missed and review Dr. Fu and Dr. Wang's dental practice and procedures to hopefully avoid this situation with other patients. I am having the work done by another dentist and will try to recover the cost later. read more

We have seen Dr. Fu for few years. Dr. Fu is always professional, nice and straight to the point. I don't bring my daughter in anymore. The main reason is for the distance. It's too much of a drive especially through traffic at times. However, if you do stop bringing your child, they will be quite persistent and either ask why she is not coming in or reschedule for an appointment. I like my privacy to be respected and if I do not want to bring my child in, I should have that right. Whether I have a practical reason or not, a simple, I don't want to bring my child in anymore should suffice. That alone really bothered me. I'm glad to know there are some clients that love to attend here and some don't. No office is one size fits all. In addition, I like change and sometimes a change of a dentist or doctor can be wonderful. A new environment, new energy, new routine can do wonders! I am ready for a change. We have had our 3 kids at Dr. Maria's office for many years. We have always been satisfied with the service and have been through rough appointments for the girls as well as easy ones. She is very competent, kind and reasonable. She and her entire group of dental hygienists and front reception staff have given my children positive, enjoyable visits throughout the years. My children talk about their staff as if they were friends from school. Dr Sarita's scope of knowledge gained through her years of experience shines through in everything she does or recommends for my children. They trust her and enjoy their appointments with her. Dr Derrick has treated all three of my children with their teeth alignment issues and wearing braces. His recommendations and techniques were all successful, resulting in corrections in a quick amount of time. I was fortunate to have had several years to b a patient of Dr Leonard Fu, who is still the kindest dentist I had been to. My son is afraid of any doctor like person in this world. As soon as those blue or white coat people even come near him he starts making a scene. Hence taking him to a dentist should have been a humongous challenge for me ( at least I thought so). I couldn't sleep the night before the appt thinking we would be kicked out of the clinic in no time. But to my surprise, as soon as we entered Dr Wang's office, my son's reaction was exactly opposite. There were so many toys and the environment was not at all like a Dr office. Also, when the time came for his appt, Dr Sarita and her assistant made it so easy for him. He didnt cry at all. He was so happy, that he said i like this Dr and we should come again. My daughter was a patient of Dr. Maria Fu's from the time she was two or three till she went to college last year (and she's now seeing Dr. Leonard Fu, next door.) We originally went to Dr. Maria because another dentist had downplayed a brown spot on one of my daughter's baby teeth, and didn't see the need to fill it. Over the next few months the spot rapidly became a hole--I mean an obvious hole that I was literally picking food out of. I wanted a better dentist. Dr. Maria took the opposite approach and took care of the problem, instead of ignoring or downplaying it. We were always careful to brush our daughter's teeth, avoid sugary foods, and never let her have a bottle in bed, etc. but my daughter's baby teeth simply had very soft enamel. There were several issues with her baby teeth over the years because of this problem, but Dr. Maria was always on top of it. As the adult teeth came in, Dr. Maria applied sealants to prevent decay and advised my daughter carefully and persistently on how to care for her own teeth. She worked with us appropriately as our daughter went through orthodontia, to make sure there wouldn't be any associated dental problems. As a result of Dr. Maria's conscientious care, our daughter now has a strong set of adult teeth with NO FILLINGS in them. She also has really good dental care habits, again as a result of Dr. Maria's care. I highly recommend Dr. Maria to anyone who wants a really great dentist for their child. read more

We were recommended to go to her by our pediatrician (who we still go to). They have a nice office and from what we could tell capable doctors as well. But their biggest problem -- recommending unnecessary dental procedure for our 4 year old child and then charging us exorbitantly for it (I later found out that other dentists charge roughly 1/3 of what they charged us). Sometimes the trust factor with doctors is so high that one forgets to do due diligence around medical procedures especially when it is for your child. Yes .. Found another good dentist who is truly concerned about the kids and not focused on the money part only. I understand that $ is important ..it's a business after all, however I expected a bit more from this dentist .. Cavities .. I was told that my kid had multiple cavities ..they were milk teeth and my firsts question was ..when do you think they are going to fall out. From a dentist , who boasts about 20+ years of practice, I was expecting a fairly accurate judgement, I was told they needed to get an X-ray ..fair enough. Shelled out the $ for the X-ray and I was told the teeth wouldn't fall out for at least one year and perhaps more. I was further informed that there were permanent teeth besides these milk teeth and the cavity could move over damaging the permanent teeth. So, what's next? 'Mom, I advise you get all the cavities filled' .. Of course with an hefty out of pocket. Knowing the battles of brushing teeth at home and going by the assurance that the teeth were not going to fall out for at least a year, we relented and got the cavities filled. Within three months after this, the milk teeth started falling out. By six months all the teeth were out !!! When I asked about the assurance of 'at least one year' the next time around, I got totally brushed aside. I was in the midst of finding another dentist. I started getting calls from this office encouraging me to set up the next appointment. I politely tried to tell the caller that I would call them at my convinence and she went totally aggressive on me ..something to do with their automated system which reminds 'them' to call me and hence I needed to tell her right then and there if I was going to go back after two month, three months or? This Dr. is a scam. The TV/toys are a good touch. However, she knows EXACTLY how to squeeze more money out of patients. 2 Examples: 1, My kid's tooth was VERY wiggly - about to come off. We go for a routine checkup and the Doctor goes "Would you like me to help with tooth"? I didn't realize this mean a 250$ bill for friggin tooth extraction!!! If we hadn't told her to help, the tooth would've come out withing 24-48 hours anyway. 2. 6 months ago, and again 12 months ago, had to take my kid for routine checkup. Doctor claimed the kid was too "Wiggly" - which I was surprised about - coz my kid was sitting calmly. The Doctor says, she's going to use some "gas" - i.e. Nitrous Oxide or something. Uses it for 30 seconds - 1minute. Bam, another 50$. Now, I think she's done this one time too many. I'm looking elsewhere. In summary, I agree with the earlier reviewer about the sticker shock!!! Best pediatric dentist in the area! Several of my realtives, my daughter and many other people I know have been and are being treated by Dr. Maria. She is great with her patients and she is very experienced and proficient. She is a Board certified pediatric dentist by choice (this is not mandatory). My daughter lookd forward to going to her appointments and she always has a great experience. Her staff are friendly and helpful. I referred my cousin to her after she was traumatized as a child, and Dr. Maria and her staff were able to take care of her dental needs without any problems. I began taking my son to see Dr. Maria about 7 months ago and he has been there twice. Both times, he was not very cooperative (20 months old at the first visit), but the assistants and Dr. Maria were very patient with him. I thought that they were going to restrain him down, but that wasn't the case. They do not want to traumatize the child so they only do what they can. I was very appreciative of this. The assistant unfortunately could not perform the cleaning since my son wouldn't sit for it, but Dr. Maria was able to exam his teeth and luckily everything looked good! I took my son to see Dr. Maria because I worked for the office for three years about five years ago. I was very confident in Dr. Maria's skills and enjoyed the atmosphere of the office. I'd like to comment on a few of the other reviews from others. Many of the reviews comment about insurance payments. Dr. Maria's office is an out-of-network pediatric dentist for most insurance companies. When you go to an out-of-network provider, you pay more out of pocket. Since Dr. Maria is not contracted with your particular insurance company, there is absolutely no way of their office to know exactly what your insurance would cover. This is why the office provides treatment plans and it is the responsibility of the insurance subscriber to contact the insurance and ask about coverage. Dental offices aren't responsible for calling every patient's insurance company - they have to focus on treating the patient. There were also comments about rotating staff...this is only the case because the doctors care so much about their patients. It's difficult enough for most patients to come to the dentist due to many anxieties, but for a patient to come to their appointment and have the front staff/assistants not know what they're doing is too much. Dr. Maria expects almost perfection from her staff so that the patients have an enjoyable experience which is why some staff changes are made...this is for the benefit of the patient. Working at the office for three years - I saw the mistakes that were made and it was obvious that staff changes were only done for the office to run more efficiently and effectively. Some comments suggested that Dr. Maria doesn't spend enough time with the child. What needs to be understood is that children do not want to sit in the dental chair for very long so Dr. Maria has to work with the child in an expeditious manner before the child wants to leave. Lastly, some comments suggested that Dr. Maria did not work well with the child. Dr. Maria was great with my son. My niece also started seeing Dr. Maria a few years ago after having a traumatic experience with a different doctor and my niece is never afraid to see Dr. Maria. I'll be the first to admit that Dr. Maria has her days where she may not be very happy with her staff and that my affect the child/parents review of her, but don't we all have our days? I highly recommend Dr. Maria. She even attends continuing education classes. Her services may be slightly more than other dentists, but I always think - you get what you pay for. I'd rather pay a bit more to see a skilled, professional, compassionate pediatric dentist than another dentist who quality is sub-par. read more

From the TV in the ceiling, the train table in the waiting room and the prize barrel to dip into on the way out, my kids have found plenty of fun reasons to go the dentist. The negative comments are coming out of left field. I grew up with this office. As a result of candy habits, I had a lot of cavities as a kid with my permanent teeth. The back room staff are child friendly but Dr Maria herself is more business-like, and did not have the time/patience to spend much time trying to re-assure our 3-year old daughter. I take both my kids to this doctor. My kids are 4 and 6. First of all my kids love going here b/c the staff is super friendly and the atmosphere is great! To my surprise my daughter had 2 fillings. During her appointment Dr. Maria was incredible. I was watching from the hallway and I couldn't believe her patience with my daughter. When she gave her the shot my daughter didn't even move b/c she used the gas for her. During the entire visit Dr. Maria talked to her in a gentle voice and really distracted her. After the appointment I asked my daughter did it hurt as I was curious what she felt. She said it was wierd. That's it! After the filling appointment Dr. Maria explained to me why she thought my daughter needed fillings and what I needed to do to prevent them in the future. Every visit to this office has been nothing less than great. I don't have insurance so this is a non issue. She is a specialist in kids and I know I have to pay more for that special care, but it is totally worth it because I don't want my kids have scary memories of the dentist like most of us do. Our kids have been going to Dr. Maria Fu, and now her daughter since they had teeth (our oldest is now 15). We've been happy with both the service and friendliness of the staff. The kids get ear phones to distract them from the sounds, and there are videos playing on the ceiling. I hated going to the dentist as a child, but ours never minded. One thing I have questioned is the heavy use of sealants. Our plan doesn't cover re-application, or application after 14, but Dr. Fu recommends it anyway. We err on the side of caution (and expense), but I wonder if these treatments are necessary. read more

When DDS Wang Came out as we were in the waiting room. My son playing on their wonderful, huge train set. DDS got down to his level, warmed up to him, started playing with him. She Asked him his name, how old he is, if he could share and play with her? She had her head light with her. DDS Wang showed my son how cool it was! HE was so excited! She asked how many teeth he had, and that he still had breakfast left over in his mouth and that we needed to clean it. After he warmed up to her, she brought him back to clean his teeth. I heard no kicking, no screaming, and no yelling "MOM". Now, he still didn't sit in the chair, but she cleaned his teeth with no problems, standing up. And finished the whole cleaning!! I was so impressed! My son left their office yelling to stay instead of wanting to go home! GREAT EXPERIENCE! read more

After a rough experience at a different dentists office when I was little, my mom found dr. Maria. I've been seeing dr. Maria for about maybe 10 years now. I am now 17 1/2 years old. She is gentle and suggests different treatment options. She thoroughly thinks treatment plans through before helping your parents to make the right beneficial decision. Over the years, we have been though a range of dental experiences with Dr Maria- from regularly scheduled cleanings to broken teeth, cavities and a gum laceration. Dr Maria has ALWAYS been compassionate and gentle with her care. As a result of our experiences, many of our friends have taken their children to see her as well. Not sure why the negative reviews. Generally, i don't like dentist but some of them are tolerable. I avoid going to them but with my kids, I try and have them go every year. When i was growing up, the dentist i went to were always finding cavities. But so far neither of my sons have any cavities (ages 5 and 6). She seems ethical and doesn't find "invisible cavities" so that they can charge for more. Her daughter is a dentist also and joined the practice. She is seems very friendly. I took my very shy son to his first dentist appointment with Dr. Fu. I expected him to be extremely unhappy having strangers stick their fingers in his mouth. In the end, he warmed up to Dr. Fu's great staff and to Dr. Fu. She has a nice way with kids and clearly likes them. I think the cartoons on the ceiling had some part to play in how often my son still asks to see the dentist again. That and the train table in the waiting room. Dr. Fu is amazing. Six months ago my son needed emergency work on his crumbling teeth which are genetically weak and chalky. No dentist on the Peninsula would surgically touch his teeth. Finally our local dentist recommended Dr. Fu. She knew exactly what the problem was and immediately put together a game plan. I finally relaxed a little, knowing I was in her capable hands. She and her husband preformed 6 crowns, 3 root canals and sealed all of my sons teeth. It took 7 hours from beginning to end. We couldn't be happier with our experience and my son continues to see her for his cleaning and check-ups.
