Maria's Garden is a pretty big place. So many plants to choose from. What I like is that they put a lot of different perennials at closeout prices. Too bad that I couldn't buy all the Canna Lillies that were only $10 each (at least they looked like Cannas to me). They may be past their blooming season and they have to sell them most likely. Can you imagine getting them in the ground next season? Talk about buying perennials on a budget and having the best garden on the block. Unfortunately, I was unable to take advantage due to time and having a place for them. I did buy my MiracleGro indoor dirt for my plants. But when i tell somebody I have deer that come through here all the time. I don't expect to get dear friendly plants. I would have preferred not unfriendly deer plants. But the deer off works, so I'll deal with it. I do like hydrangeas and if these get nice size and are blooming, they'll be absolutely gorgeous where they're at, I'm going to tweak the bed a little bit because it is big so I'm going to put in a few little things into the flower bed. I will be adding pictures in the spring to my new review of how my plant survived the winter and what a winter they had to survive. This was not a cheap endeavor and I would certainly hope that if these plants all died over the winter, or did something that they would be a little more compassionate. And replace some of them after all, when you didn't get exactly what you asked for and you're paying top.Dollar, they should be a little more on your side, because if there are dead plants and they didn't survive. The winter and they don't give me a refund on them. I will never be doing business there again. And I do shop there quite often. I walked around the entire facility looking for ground cover or "help". 5..count them..5 employees ranging from work clothes to polo shirts with Maria Gardens embroidered on them. They don't explain the program well, only bushes and trees you get 50% back on if they die within 1 year, perennials must be brought back by Oct 31 the year you bought them or no 50% refund! I had to hunt someone down to help me, only 1 guy knew the return policy, and he was quite rude. We found beautiful plants, bushes and perennials at Costco, their return policy is 1 year, no questions asked, and all we bought was twice as big for at least 1/2 the cost. I see an average of 2.5 stars (of 5) for these guys, and I think even that is too high. So, long story.... 3 years ago I came across "Sunpatiens", which are related to Impatiens, but love the sun (as opposed to IMpatiens which need shade). I also discovered that there are 2 types of Sunpatiens: Vigorous and Compact. Vigorous spread and Compact do not. I really don't want to spend a lot of time on this review because I have already spent way too much time and money on these guys. In short, I called to make sure they had VIGOROUS SUNpatiens. They said they were getting them in the following week. The following week I called back and asked if they had them, and was told they did. I drive up there and located them. I find a worker and ask, yet again, if they flowers I was purchasing were VIGROUS SUNpatiens. He said they were, and even double checked with the owner, and confirmed that they were. I had a graduation party coming up, so I wanted to make sure everything was perfect, hence my attention to detail. I purposely purchase $300 worth of these flowers 6 weeks prior to our party, because I know it takes about 6 weeks for them to get established and start spreading (they really look nice once this happens). Again, I don't want to spend much more time on this, so cutting to the end.... Not only did they not spread, but when the sun hits them, they shrivel up. I take many photos and head back up there. I talk to an owner (I think his name was Jordan or something....something with a "J" (young kid). He takes a look at my photos and I KNEW what he was going to tell me: It was somehow my fault despite the fact that I bought $50 in fertilizer, watered them DAILY, and did everything correctly. He looked at the photos and told me the leaves look like they were "stressed" at some point. Right. The flowers looked like crap for the party a couple days later. AND, even 4 weeks after that, they still look terrible at the end of the day after being in the sun. Their solution? They wanted to give me a discount on some Petunias. Uh, I already spent $400 and way too much time on this, and they wanted me to spend more money there? No way. This is actually the second year in a row this happened to me, and the owner couldn't care less. There are a lot of garden centers in the area. I will be heading to Petiti's or one of the others....and you probably should too. Don't be fooled by how awesome everything looks in this place. OH.....and while I was standing there talking to the manager, a lady asked about a tree she was considering purchasing. I chimed in and told her that I bought one there 15 years ago and it was awesome. She ended up buying it. I totally sold that tree for them. And for me? Nothing. read more

I purchased three plants for $60. A rhaphidophora tetrasperma, a monstera adonsonii, and a strawberry begonia. The tetrasperma and adonsonii were larger, six inch pots. They both came basically dead. They were withered, yellowed, torn leaves. For a nearly $30 plant they were in horrible condition. I reached out via Facebook and was asked to call and speak to a specific employee. It took me two days to get through to him and he was borderline rude when I did. He sounded annoyed to have to talk to me, informed me that they review all claims and make a decision about whether it is a valid claim (and I'm not sure what he thought I was asking for - all I wanted was for them to see the pictures of the half dead plants I got). Oh and you also don't get a refund. You get a credit. After seeing my sad plants he offered me a $20 credit. I suppose that is better than nothing, but it's 1/3 the cost of ONE of the two (now dead) plants. I ordered 4/5 and the weather was gorgeous for a solid week. They shipped on the following Saturday (on a weekend so slow mail) when the temps went into the 30s. No heat pack. The plants arrived in soaking wet, nearly frozen soil that was infested with gnats. I ended up taking cuttings and some of them look like they may take (several have died as the parent plant was just too far gone for them to be healthy). Honestly I can get cuttings, healthy ones, of these plants for much less. So basically I have a $60 4 inch strawberry begonia. Not. Happy. Sadly, one star is as low as you can go hear so that is what they get. read more

Purchased a few decorative items for my yard. While checking out, I noticed they sold battery operated flameless candles. I bought a package for $12.99. After returning home I decided I liked the item so much I would return to the store and buy five (5) more packages for each window in my home. I checked the store's website and it stated the store closed at 7:30. I got to the store at 6:55 and was told they closed at 7:00. I checked my watch and it was not quite 7:00. Not a word from the cashier or the other employees who were congregated around the checkout. The transaction would have taken less than two minutes. I visited Maria Gardens today to see what's out now for the spring season. I was looking for vegetable seed packets or vegetable plants. While pushing my cart around (like everyone else at the store) I found the vegetable seed packets inside the store and had packets in my hand and was reading the packets. All of a sudden I hear a rude male voice say something like "you can't stand there with your cart you are blocking one of our entrances". It was a Maria Gardens employee with the green shirt and all gray hair, manager, owner, who knows. I looked around at the other shoppers near me and I was the only one with a cart. First of all, no customer ever said excuse me I can't get by. And second, it was Maria Gardens that shoved so many racks and racks of seeds together that made the narrow entrance space. Where would one put their cart while looking in that aisle? Reprimanding a customer as to where their cart is? Seriously? I was tempted to walk out but if I did I would have missed this same Maria Gardens employee belittle (loud) a younger employee in the greenhouse area. In front of customers this same gray haired employee was yelling at the younger employee telling him he has to inform him what items he's bringing out. It wasn't just a few words, he went on about it. You typically do that quietly or in private, not in front of customers. I like their selections but will go elsewhere next time. read more

I approached two young girls at checkout, asked for your Wi-Fi password and neither of them knew it. I wasn't going to buy plants that I knew nothing about. One was very unusual. I hadn't seen anything like it before. I left without buying anything. You could have gotten a pretty amount of money from me And yes there are always going to customers, but in this day and age even businesses that have stood the rest of time seem to be disappearing because of unforeseen occurrences. Extremely disappointed and dissatisfied, Our first appointment was scheduled on a day that we had to take off of work between 10-12. At 12:15 we received a call from mitch that he had to cancel. There's a wasted days pay for a call we should have received before he was already late. On the second appointment the following week in the evening, we told Mitch we were looking for design help with our new home landscaping. He came out took a few pictures and charged us $150. When we met two weeks later we received two pictures of our house with paste art shrubs on it. I was expecting more for our money then for something I could have done my self for free on internet site. He rushed us through the nursery after keeping us waiting almost an hour after our scheduled appointment time. Consultation time 15 minutes. i imagined we would have at least received a drawing of some sort with a layout and shrub names on it or something. Two weeks later they showed up mid day to do the work. Our flower beds were already stripped of existing landscaping minus four along the garage and a tree. Sixty percent of the removal work was done and they basically had a clean slate tilled and ready. Our beds were top dressed with fresh soil and tilled again. New shrubs planted and a dusting of mulch applied. We had some vacant areas around a mapple tree so Mitch charged us and additional $500 for 7 more shrubs after giving me a $25 credit for the prep work i did for them. The following concerns were addressed with mitch afterwards: - 5 of the extra 7 shrubs were crammed around the maple tree without any cohesive spacing. - Beds are flat not mounded at all and certainly not draining from the house. - Mulch is paper thin in areas and already getting weeds. You can see the dirt in some areas and mulch along side walk washes on because no edging was done. - Edging along grass is not even straight, - Shrub layout is not even straight in areas it should have been, - Existing tree root sticking out of the ground where the "supposedly had ground up" . After meeting with Mitch and voicing our concerns? NOTHING. It was a waste of time to have him out after the install. So now we are out $5000 for the quality job I could have gotten from some college kids home for the summer. Now I have to go redo the work i thought i paid a "professional" to do. Mari gardens is nice for DIY but the definitely are not landscapers by any means nor should they advertise the service if they cant deliver quality work. I bought over $300 worth of plants and hanging baskets for mothers day from Marc's in north olmsted all of which say Maria's Gardens Columbia station. While they looked beautiful we hung 10 baskets off our pergola and a few others around the house. I replanted some in bigger pots. What we noticed was that the FLIES that were attracted to these flowers that they came from Maria's were crazy hundreds of flies like something you see in a movie. We couldnt keep them hanging because they flew the hanging baskets and dive bombed you. The ones I replanted in a different soil had no flies and flourished. The ones we kept in the hanging had something in the soil that attracted flies and then the flowers just died. Then NO FLIES thank god we could sit outside again. Fast forward to yesterday I went to Marc's and saw all the beautiful mums..surely this cant happen again OMG I bought 4 mums came home and hung them from my pergola went in the house for 5 min came back out and the FLY swarm returned...literally hundred of flies going after these flower pots...its not the flowers it's the pots..its the soil. I looked on the pots they all say they came from Maria's gardens Columbia station. My husband said omg get rid of these flowers. We have PTSD from the mother's day flowers from the same place. Anyways we went up to home depot and he bought me some mums and sunflowers from there I hung the mums and no flies..conclusion has Maria's uses something in there soil that attracts flies and they will swarm where ever you put these hanging baskets unless.you replant them in a different soil. read more

We cleared our busy schedule and hired a babysitter to occupy our three young kids. Mitch did not show up. We rescheduled with him. The next Saturday we again cleared our schedule and hired a babysitter. Again, Mitch did not show up. We rescheduled for a third time and AGAIN he did not show up. Paid top dollar for 2 beautiful hanging baskets. Despite constant care and feeding, plants declined and within a month they looked terrible. The rest of the plants I bought were cared for in the same way and continue to look healthy and beautiful! Mitch seemed inexperienced and didn't seem to care much about my satisfaction, especially after I had spent well over $200 at the store. His only solution was for me to buy more plants. I purchased 20 trees (15 blue spruces and 5 fruit trees) from Maria Gardens in November 2013. The manager and sale representatives were very nice and helpful when I signed a contract for $$$ Unfortunately, 3 fruit trees died in winter, probably because the store buys it in south states, like Virginia and they are not well adapted for the Ohio winter. I contacted store and manager in person during 2 (two) months asking for tree replacement. First when I called the sale representative suggested me to dig out and bring dead trees to the store. I mentioned that my $$$ contract includes both trees and labor coverage at least for one year. When I asked to talked to the manager he said that a gardener will come to me and check the trees. It was never done. Since manager stop returning my phone calls I came few times to the store, each time to find out that I cannot get tree replacement. First because all plum trees in stock in the store were not that good, almost dead, they did not survive winter as well, second and third time just to learn that they were ordered but not arrive and manager does not know when exactly when they will come. Each time I came to the store to talk about my problem of 3 dead trees still under the contract (that was 3 times once a week) I was sent to the same manager who became more and more hostile as if I am bothering him and I felt that he really hates me.... I contacted BBB (Best Business Bureau), BBB expert finds my claim accurate and support it; and after 2 and half month of hassle 3 dead fruit trees were replaced just in one week. Thanks BBB!!! Now I have some issues with blue spruces. They were planted inside metal cage and plastic burlap, so tree roots have no place to grow and trees look sick with branches down.... I contacted Maria Garden. I explain the urgency to check the trees because they could be saved at this time! The same manager gave me a hard time for writing this review and told me that the gardener will check trees in the next few weeks (gardener leaves just 10 min away from me). I told a manager that in the few weeks the trees will be dead... The Manager only expressed the hope that in the few weeks my contract will expired. Yes, he was that mean and simple. I think he should be aware that if the expert will find that trees were installed incorrectly from the beginning, MG will have to replace it for free even after the contract will end or refund money. Well, Maria Gardens has big plant selection. So, if you want to buy some one-season flowers - go for it. But stay away from expensive purchases like tree purchase. If something will happens to your tree, which is likely during winter, you will be put through the same hell I was put. These people will never change. I was so impressed by Maria Gardens! There was a lot of variety both inside and outside the store. The plants all look healthy and vigorous and are arranged in a pleasing manner, as if on a meandering garden stroll. Hardware, soil supplements, seeds and pond supplies were all easily accessible as well as a wealth of unique pottery and baskets to contain your plant creations.
