    Tartarian cherries
    Greg W.

My favorite orchard to pick cherries! This orchard seems to have expanded their parking area. Last year they just had the main small parking lot you would pull into. Now there's more parking available on the side of the road for overflow. Guess the place got more popular. When you walk into the lot, you'll see the tented area where they hand out bags and you purchase your cherries at the end of your adventure. When you first arrive at the tables, they'll ask you to read through all their rules and overview of how to pick cherries. They have a handy print out of all the varieties of cherries that you can identify based on the colored stripes on the tree trunks. When you go into the orchard, the fun begins! This year to start, they just had a few varieties ready so far. I ended up focusing on picking the Tartarian cherries. These are a beautiful dark red cherry that are very soft (hence bruise easily!) and tasty. They're sweet and not that acidic. Compared to the other cherries available so far this summer, these are my favorite. $6 / lb of cherries. That's 50¢ cheaper than the other U-Pick orchards that are currently open and for even better cherries (imho) :-) I'm looking forward to coming back soon!

This is a nice farm very close to San Jose which makes it way more convenient than Brentwood farms . Reached there around 10 am and it was lil less crowded at that time as they open around that time itself but then gradually it started getting crowded. The price is $6 per pound which I found reasonable for a cherry farm . They will give you bags and the fruit picker as well ( ask for the fruit picker ) . They gave us a pamphlet stating what strip color in tree corresponds to what variety and they have rainier , bing and all other varieties. This made it easy to find the right cherry for us . There is a certain section which is barricaded with a yellow ribbon , and there were some rainier cherry trees on the other side , probably meaning you shouldn't go in that side, but I saw some people still going to the other side and some people were smart enough to stand on this side of ribbon and use there fruit pickers to pick the cherries of the other side . They have nice Photo Booth locations where you can take those wonderful pictures . They don't allow you to have picnic though ( they told us on the phone) but other than that I think I found the perfect spot for my cherry picking going forward.

Easy to get to and nearby. The cost per pound for cherries is was $6.00 which is reasonable. There is a small parking lot and plenty of street parking in case the lot gets full. There are teens that 'greet' you when you come in. They tell you to read the rules and give you bags to use. Throughout the orchard there are several photo ops they have set up which are cute. All in all we had a good time walking around with our family. The problem we had is that most of the cherry trees were picked clean. The ones that remained were too high to reach, or had not ripened. We still managed to get some cherries and have a good time. The downside is they had tools to help you reach the cherries and nobody let us know - only saw them on the way out. It would have been really helpful if that had been part of the info shared upon arrival.

Our usual U-Pick cherry spot got cleared out super fast this year, so after a bunch of searching on socials and here on yelp, we ended up here. And wow, I'm so glad we did! We'll definitely be making this our new go-to. They had tons of cherries, offered picking baskets, and even had these adorable little photo ops everywhere, plus a piano in the middle - so cute! My daughter did not believe it when I sat down to start playing and played a random song. I tried to play top end of chopstix and couldn't remember it. So now I'm on a mission before next year. It was such a pleasant, low-key place with no traffic, no waiting, and no paid parking. We picked seven pounds in the first week of June, so we definitely didn't miss out on our family tradition after all. Such a great find!

I saw a Facebook event for cherry and Apricot picking and attended. At the time they said Apricots needed another week. So I told them I love the dark sweet cherries. I am so glad I saw the event. I had went to the U-Pick off of Monterey road a few weeks ago and ended up leaving. That place didn't have handicap parking, there was thousands of people and I wasn't going to attempt to walk a half mile for cherries. This place is literally right before Andys orchard... they actually look like they are on the same property, they don't have fences. I asked them about it and they said it is 2 different owners. So I got about 3 pounds of delicious cherries for about $13 which is way cheaper, fresher, tastier than you find at the grocery stores. When I got cherries from the grocery store, the next day they were super squishy. Make sure you don't wash them until you plan to eat them and eat them within 4 days, keep in fridge. These cherries were sooo good. 5 stars on the cherries. I saw another Facebook event for apricot picking. I LOVE Blenheim apricots and they said they have them here. So I came back with high hopes to get a few pounds to make a jelly and apricot pie. I looked at about 15 of the trees that were Blenheim, but it was all green. Apricots are supposed to be nice full orange/yellow. So I was pretty disappointed about that and gave them the bag back and told them they aren't ready to be picked. The guys asked what I was talking about. I told him the Blenheim is green and hard. He said, "no no thats when you pick them, when they are green." I didn't want to argue. When I left I even looked it up on how to know when apricots are ready, it literally says when there is no more green left and has turned golden orange. They should have people there that know what they are talking about.

    Why not? Lol

Came here on these conditions day of opening. The fruits are plentiful, you don't have to wander deep in the orchard to find good ones. There were bunches by the side road where you go and pay for em. 10ish is a good time to go, not too hot but certainly have a few spots to park left. There's this adorable swing for pics we certainly took advantage of. The cashier was friendly and it was only less than $4 per pound for cherries.

But as my family…read moreand I was on my way to Gizdich Ranch for strawberries, we actually pass this Farm and was super curious about it. So on our way back home we went here and it was pretty cool. I didn't realize how close Morgan Hill was to the Cupertino/San Jose area (~30 miles or less). It was a great experience. The entrance to the parking lot is very clear but it's only one way so if you see parking just park there. I saw cars park on the highway road because it was full. First you check in to pay admission for adults ( kids under 4 feet are free) then they hand you the bucket and your on your way. It was a bit muddy because of the rain the past few days so make sure to wear shoes you don't care about. We were a bit lost as to where we were allowed to pull but we found our footing and it was a fun hour experience. You can eat the cherries as you pick. They don't care. There's a lot of cherries at the bottom of the tree as well as on top for the kids to pick. But because of the weather and rain I saw more baby cherries or cherries that weren't ready to ripe yet. Maybe next weekend it will be better. When you check out, they weigh it and bag it in a plastic bag for you. Morgan Hill downtown is very close to here so you could go there for lunch or walk around to complete your Morgan Hill experience but you'll probably have to make a UTURN to get there. Check online for hours!

The berries are super fresh and sweet! I feel like it's the perfect summer fruit. The darker they are, the sweeter they are but i also really like the slight tartness that the just ripe ones have as well. I picked up 2 pounds on my first go but my family and I ate it all within 3 days so I had to go back to pick up 5 more pounds. I recommend texting or calling before you go to make sure they're open as they do sell out quickly. I didn't try the u-pick as I didn't have time but I would like to try next year!

We were saying we'd like to come back again with the rest of our family since the kids enjoyed it! We were told the golf cart will do their rounds to drop and pick people up. However, since the cart wasn't there yet & we needed to use the restroom close by, we decided to just walk to the restroom. And we can see the front from there so we decided we would just walk back after. A car was coming so I told my daughter to move in so the car can pass. *HONK HONK* as if we were running. She rolls down the window and starts giving us a huge attitude about how we are not suppose to be walking around "Stay right there!" She was so completely rude I knew it had to be none other than the owner because everyone else we encountered were so kind! Literally a family with small children just walking didn't need to be honked at. We were already stopped when she approached so she could have just rolled her window down and spoke to us nicely. We didn't know there was a rule of no walking or we would have been more than happy to obligated. She should definitely have a staff member roaming the grounds instead of herself because she definitely cannot control her bad attitude and should not be out in the wild.

When we were there, the staff advised us to head deeper into the farm since most of the cherries near the parking lot had already been picked. The price was $6.5 per lb, which is slightly pricy compared to the farms in Brendwood, but considering the location, if you live in South Bay, this is the ideal location for cherry picking. A couple of things to note that they do not provide ladders on site due to safety and liability concerns, and you cannot bring your own buckets/bags; they will provide the plastic bags for you at the farm.

However, I would think that coming on the first day would give me a better chance of cherry picking. Many trees were sparse and had little to no cherries for picking. :( I wondered if I just chose the wrong ranch to pick from. I came for bings and Rainer's and left with only Rainer's. The bings didn't look as red or ripe to eat. It's a fun summer activity, but I recommend all come early when ranches are open! $6.50/lb for self pick and $7.50/lb if you want them pre-picked. Bags are provided!

Online Catalog offered 30 varieties to choose from for $10 a plant. However on the day, they offered 47 tomato varieties (see pic) The Local Makers Market event also had local owned business booths, from a flower van, champagne, crafts, olive oil booth, salsa booth, bath products like lotions and potions and likely a dozen more I can't recall. A food truck called "Pupusa Lady" and of course I ordered 2 empanadas. Delicious ! Parking was easy as one actually parks on the main road. Not sure if there was other parking. All in all, it was a warm breezy day and amazed how many ppl were buying these starter tomato plants. Even the owner was in the midst talking to customers. So glad they accepted plastic. Process was super easy as one finds the vanities, grab the pot (and free cardboard box, if needed), then walk to "cashier" table and pay. I bought 4 varieties : Brandywine, Nepal, Martha Washington and Tasmanian Chocolate. Tip: During the tomato season, This farm offers an honesty cart where they leave their beautiful tomatoes of the season on a cart outside and one pays based on prices and place payment in a lock box or similar. I haven't experienced that YET as tomato season is not yet here. But once summer arrives and on my way to the Gilroy Outlets, I'll be sure to buy fresh in season tomatoes.
