My friend has never been here and she was raving on how good it was, thanking me for recommending this place. The receptionist was friendly and helpful. Heidi was the one who took our order. Good food and atmosphere, service was fine. BUT $98 with tip for lunch with 2 people, no alcohol? WTF? Only carne asada plate and wet burrito with 2 iced teas. What we didn't know is they charge for chips, charge for salsa, $11 for guacamole and even charged us $5 extra for wet burrito...the added salsa on top. Sorry guys, love the food, but way overpriced. Went there for the first time yesterday. Was a tad dissatisfied overall. The building was nice and clean. But I had a couple issues with service and prices. The gentleman who served us asked if we wanted anything to start off with so we ordered drinks and asked for the chips and salsa. (Without looking at the menu yet) Took about 10 minutes to receive both. Then we proceeded to order our food. Carnitas taco, chicken enchiladas and a chicken burrito. As I was eating I asked for some flour tortillas to scoop up my beans and rice with. (Standard issue I assumed). Over the course of about 15-20 minutes of eating I was never asked if I needed a refill of my Diet Pepsi and I was basically thirsty the whole time until we finished eating. After we were completely finished eating and pushed our plates back, the waiter finally stopped by to give us the bill and asked if everything was alright or needed any dessert's. We kindly said no thank you and then I proceeded to ask for a refill of my Diet Pepsi unfortunately. I was so thirsty and disturbed at this point. Then it all sinks in. I reviewed the bill and realized we were charged not only for the chips and salsa but also the basic tortillas. Maybe I've been living on another planet but I don't recall ever paying for chips and salsa at any traditional Mexican taqueria or restaurant in the past. Nor paying for extra tortillas to scoop up some beans and rice. On top of that, the tortillas were basic (tasted like basic store bought) nothing worth paying for. And the chips and salsa were almost identical to Chevys chips which are free. Bottom line.... Felt a little overpriced, service could have been better and if you're going to charge customers for chips, salsa and a basic tortilla ....do everyone a solid and at the very least (let them know ahead of time that you charge). That way the customer can make a good decision prior and then people like me won't complain or be caught off guard. Also make sure people are getting their drinks refilled asap. Nobody should ever have a drink reach empty for an extended period or until they get their final bill. Makes for a disappointing experience unfortunately. Food was ok in my opinion. Carnitas could be flash seared a tad. A little too wet for my taste. Place has a ton of potential but it starts with better service and better communication. Nice ambiance and cleanliness though. We've been meaning to try this place for some time. It was a nice evening, we had a friend in town, so we figured we'd check it out. There is a small parking lot outback and plenty of street parking. We sat on the porch, which is a delightful place to eat. Any place that has outdoor seating has my vote! Service was great. Our waiter knew the menu very well and was able to answer our questions. He was also able to make some suggestion suggestions Two of us had the shrimp enchiladas and my husband had the carnitas street tacos. Both were good. Were they amazing? No, but good. I think the tacos were fine. The shrimp enchiladas needed something. I'm not sure what. They were just a bit bland and the shrimp was a little bit rubbery. I loved the little Elote they served on the side. For a Mexican restaurant, the prices were quite a bit higher than others in the area. That said, it was full service, which I really like. I did not think the prices were out of line, but I know some people do. They do charge for chips and salsa. I don't mind that. Definitely makes you think before you mindlessly ruin your dinner eating three baskets of them, right? (OK, OK, we really did eat the tortilla chips. Probably three baskets full.! but we still ate our dinner!) We will definitely be back. I'd like to try some other menu items. Check it out! read more

We brought friends in on a Tuesday at around 5:30pm. It was super busy!!! The restaurant was clean and cute. We got seated in around 19 minutes. Got served chips and salsa. Our server (same one we had last time) was super friendly and even remembered us!! Ordered the tostadas, enchiladas, nachos and two of the taco Tuesday specials -steak tacos. The drinks (margarita, Smokey, and smoky pomegranate) delicious!! The tostadas looked great (my next entre) and were declared delicious. The enchilada plate was a delicious looking meal too!! The nachos (we had them last time) with chili verde were great!! The taco specials-steak-tasted great but the steak was slightly tough. Next time I'll sub for the ground beef. Overall a great experience and we will make this our spot for margaritas and some good food when we are in woodland. The service here has been outstanding each time we have visited. read more

We have been coming to this spot for many years, before it was Maria's. Great that when it changed the quality of food stayed good. We enjoy the food and drinks and service has always been friendly. Ambiance - Mexican decorations and has a bar side, and outdoor seating. I'm a big fan of carnitas - either burrito or plate. Not currently drinking, but they have good margaritas also. Our kids enjoy the quesadilla and my wife likes the enchiladas. Recommend. read more

Decided to celebrate Cinco de Mayo early. Maria's is off the main drag in Woodland so easy to miss unless you know to go there. Chips and salsa are not complimentary but it was a huge basket of warm thin crisp chips. The accompanying salsa was nothing special. Decor is nice. My dining partner got a taco plate that looked very good. I got a burrito (duh) and it was very generously portioned but what took it down several notches is that the tortilla was not grilled. A simple step that would have really elevated the burrito instead it made it rather meh. It looked naked sitting on the plate. Prices were a bit high for what you get but that's a lot of places nowadays so it makes it harder to try new restaurants and risk not getting good value. Our server was very friendly and attentive but I wasn't a fan of being called "my love" at each interaction. I was a server for many years and never addressed customers in that way. But that aside she did a good job which is the most important part. Overall it was a decent meal but a one and done for me. read more

Why have I not heard of this place? I came here on a whim with my family to celebrate my grandson's first birthday. I had never heard of this restaurant before, but I was pleasantly surprised. The ambience was lovely, and the food was delicious, fresh, and hot. The service was A+. We came in at about 7:40, and they closed at 8:30. I was worried they would turn us away or rush us. Everyone was terrific, and they treated us like family. My grandson enjoyed his chicken tenders. read more

I come for the drinks more than the food. I enjoy the chips and salsa and their margaritas. Service is always friendly and timely. Food is hit or miss. I once loved the mole, but got it a second time and it wasn't nearly as good. Some of the tacos are really tasty, other times they aren't. Seems inconsistent. I don't have a go-to entree here for that reason. Feels like it depends on who is cooking each night. For a Happy Hour or drinks and appetizers, though, it's a great location. This is a higher end Mexican cantina, not a taqueria. The beans and rice are a little different from what we expected. There is one vegan option on the menu, which my whole family enjoyed. A few other items can be altered to make them vegan. Overall, the prices were kind of high for what we got. It was nice to try it, but I'm not excited to go return soon. read more

The chef created cuisine rises above cookie cutter offerings in chain restaurants. The main menu selection is large including seafood, various grilled meats and molé. In addition to the main menu, there are weekly changing Taco Tuesday and Weekend Dinner menus to add even more variety. After visiting this restaurant, I will definitely be back. The decor inside was beautiful- I definitely liked the side booths & they also have a bar area & outdoor (heated) seating. We got chips & salsa - chips were thin & hot, and the salsa wasn't super spicy, but it had good flavor. The waitress was nice, but busy so the other workers walking around constantly were very quick to assist with refills or anything else we needed. My husband ordered the chili verde - delicious & plenty for leftovers & then I ordered a shrimp taco & a blackened fish taco - the fish was the better of the two, but both still yummy! I've been going to Maria's since they first opened. They used to have all day happy hour on Sundays and those were some great times!! They have a great bar and great atmosphere. Their margaritas and beer selection is great. Their current bartender makes a proper cocktail and is very professional. My one complaint is the lack of consistency in the kitchen. I've had great meals there on par with some of the best Mexican food around. But I've also had food that is barely edible. On my last visit the Carne Asada was basically shoe leather. So tough, I was worried about my fillings. (jk) The refried beans came out ice cold. I suggest the restaurant manager be a bit more diligent about monitoring the food leaving the kitchen. Of course I will go back, but my wife says not anytime soon and she is usually pretty forgiving when it comes to a restaurant having a bad day. The problem is that Maria's is great about half the time and very inconsistent the other half. Should I go back and have another great meal, I will definitely update. read more

Excellent Mexican food hidden in the little town of Woodland. We came here after a work meeting and they were spot on with the service for ~8 of us. Chips and salsa were good, the salsa isn't really spicy but is very, very flavorful. We tried the spice guac and the pineapple guac and were very happy with them. Fresh, tasty, and flavored as promised. Personally I ordered the Pastor taco plate. It was a LOT of food and they were fantastic. 5 awesome tacos with some of the best Al Pastor I have ever had. Everything ordered at the table looked amazing and there was nothing but empty plates when we left. Next time I am in town, I think I want to try the tuna poke dish, it looked delish. read more

First time here. We started as a party of 4, and by the time we got seated, there were 7 of us. The place has a festive interior, and it was not too crowded. They kept the drinks and chips and salsa flowing. The food was pretty good. I had the carnitas plate. I asked for no raw onions, but it had a lot of pico salsa on it that contains raw onions. Ugh! I did not care for the guacamole too much. Too much stuff in it not a lot of flavor. Overall my experience was good and the staff was friendly and attentive. I would go back again.
