There are plenty of lounge and rocking chairs throughout the property to just read a book under a tree or rock yourself to sleep. There's a respectable-sized pool outdoor overlooking the river (with a diving board at the deep end), and a spa and sauna indoor. The larger room (Holly and Ivy) is 2-rooms connected together and out to the balcony with clothes line to help dry your clothes after your water adventures. The children's tale-themed rooms are decorated with family belongings and heirloom (e.g., the Blue Willow room was the owner's daughter's room), so you feel right at home. Some of our family members stayed in beds in the library downstairs surrounded by old and newer books next an antique desk and yes, a spinning wheel. Around the corner there is a pier with a bench on a floating dock tied to it. Night time is magical, with or without the moon and stars, and you can just watch the boat or house lights on the river side glitter over the water. There is no A/C, but honestly, the breeze -- even during the summer where it's 90-100 degrees elsewhere -- provides enough natural coolant that you may only need the fans, which are provided in the rooms. Robin, the friendly and accommodating owner, is always ready with a quick smile and a story about the history of the family or house. Common sense rules are posted for enjoyment of all (quiet hours observed after 11pm, tie the boat by the shed, care to be taken with the fragile bathroom system, etc.) The farm has Pixie the goat and the 2 sheep (who have gone viral with their own video!) along with chickens and ducklings and Pete the sweet dog (with his own police record!) and a cat who just roam about the property. Eggs from the farm are abundant and the owner encouraged us to cook and eat them lest they get spoiled. The town with groceries (Giant, Safeway), with restaurants and fast food (Arby's, Saigon Palace, and the Chesapeake Seafood with their superfresh seafood among others) are about a 15 min drive north, so this place is both secluded and convenient. If there were any drawback, there are mostly related to the water-sport area as some gears felt a bit worn (there's some "old ignored Chesapeake" feel to it), e.g., it would help to have more adult-sized comfortable life vest and more 2-paddle oars (to match the number of seats on the kayaks/boats if all boats are to be used). The greenhouse area where the sauna and spa is also just that -- a greenhouse, with tools lying around (don't expect a lavish steam room) -- but to me, these add to the charm of this down-to-earth B&B that makes it feel closer to home. The 1921 B&B history book mentioned spiritual entities (a white dog, a lady in black) but during our stay they didn't manifest themselves or being bothersome (they were all part of the ancestral family of the owner after all) -- It's actually made the stay a bit exciting and Robin told some of the historical stories quite light heartedly, which is appreciated. That's nice but, we were still out walking the town and taking in the sights. When we arrived, we felt like she wanted to get going and just get us checked in. No welcome , wine or any frills let's just say. We've never stayed in a B&B like this, EVER! In 45 years of marriage, this is the bottom of the bottom. My husband didn't check reviews. Our room, however, was not set up in a way to make guests feel comfortable. There was only one end table making it hard to find a place for your phone at night. The room could be rearranged to correct this and provide more space by removing one of the chairs. We did not have air conditioning in our room, but the fan was sufficient to keep us cool. Most of the rooms do have air conditioning. There is a quaint sitting room that needs to be renovated. The bathroom is one of the worst we have ever experienced. It was so tiny you could not open the door to the shower without closing the door to the room. There was no room to put toiletries making the bathroom feel claustrophobic.

With a snowstorm just having passed and a last-minute plan to celebrate my daughter's 22nd birthday, we were so lucky to come across this beautiful home. Although we're a big family, this trip was just five of us -- and wow, there was more than enough space. In fact, I've already started planning future bookings because this will definitely be our yearly getaway spot. The views are stunning, and the home feels exactly like that -- a home -- with a modern touch that makes everything feel fresh, comfortable, and welcoming. The location was also very easy to find, which made arrival stress-free. Everything you need for your stay is thoughtfully provided. The house is HUGE, but not in a cold or empty way. As soon as you walk in, it unfolds like a story -- you can truly feel the love, care, and appreciation that's been poured into this place over time. There are multiple sitting areas, plenty of space for gatherings, and so many little touches that make it special. The host went above and beyond. They were incredibly accommodating and even answered a question for us at 1 a.m. -- something I fully expected to wait until morning. That level of care says everything. This host genuinely takes the extra mile to make sure you're comfortable and well taken care of. We visited in the winter with lots of snow, and it was magical. The Chesapeake had frozen, and we were actually able to skate on it safely -- an experience I'll never forget at 43, and one my children will always remember too. My wife and I were looking for a weekend getaway in St. Michaels and we ended up picking this…read morebeautiful B&B, which is within walking distance of downtown St. Michaels. The owner, Janet, was very helpful both before us picking this B&B and during our entire stay. Our stay was from Fri-Sun in the middle of winter and we wound up being the only guests in the house that weekend, which was nice for us. Upon arrival, Janet takes you into the beautifully decorated parlor room where you fill out forms for when and what you want for breakfast each morning. She had a different menu for each day of our stay. She then gave us a tour of the home while taking us to our room, the Harrison room, which was located on the 2nd floor. There are only three guest rooms, two of which are located at the 2nd floor and the other on the 3rd floor. Janet has done a wonderful job of decorating this very old home and we enjoyed our stay in the lovely and comfortable Harrison room. The room is equipped with a queen sized bed, a sitting area, fireplace, HDTV, coffee maker, and a private bathroom. The wood burning fireplace was all set, so all we had to do was light it. Being the middle of winter, we lit the fire each night. The bathroom sink is small, but there is a built-in open medicine cabinet where you can store your toiletry items. Close the bathroom door and flip on the heater, and the bathroom will be nice and toasty for yourself! My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed each of our breakfasts. Both days, we started with fresh fruit, which came with a little scoop of raspberry sherbet. Our first breakfast consisted of french toast with sausage on the side and on the second morning, we had waffles with bananas. You have your choice of coffee, teas, and juices. She also has an assortment of DaVinci syrups to add to your coffee if you like. Breakfast was always ready at the time we specified each morning, and we got to enjoy our breakfast while sitting next to a roaring fire. The dining room consists of one round table, so you would be potentially eating with others if other guests picked a breakfast time the same or close to what you picked. Free WiFi is provided, but I found it to be slow much of the time. I think the issue had to do with where the access point is located. I had a fairly weak WiFi signal from the room on the second floor, but things improved somewhat when I sat in the parlor room. Ultimately it wasn't a real big deal for me as my device had a cellular signal and I wound up using that most of the time. The B&B is located just off a side street in downtown St. Michaels and we simply walked into town to go shopping. You are also very close to the Maritime Museum. Only street parking is available around the house. Being the dead of winter, we had no difficulty parking. I would say watch out for the no parking signs as I accidentally wound up illegally parking the first night. Fortunately a neighbor told me before a cop discovered it! This B&B accepts cash or check only and you do have to pay 50% at the time of reservation. I would have preferred that credit cards were accepted. In summary, Dr. Dodson house provided my wife and I and very relaxing weekend getaway with delicious breakfasts, and this is exactly what we were looking for. If we ever find ourselves back in St. Michaels, we will definitely look to see if there is availability at Dr. Dodson's house!!

Cons (sort of): 1) This isn't a con for me, but I can see how it could be for other people: Point Breeze's guest rooms are not fancy. You feel like you're staying over with relatives. We liked it, though! 2) No TVs in the guest rooms. A small TV is available in the great room. We really didn't care, however. We weren't there to watch TV. 3) If you don't want to take a short walk or bike ride into town, you'd be better off staying in town. We enjoyed the walk in -- not far for us at all! 4) Not many rooms -- only 3. But if you want to stay someplace quiet, this shouldn't be a problem. 5) 2 of the rooms share a bathroom. Not a big deal if you are staying with family or close friends. If you are a couple, there is one room available with a private bath. 6) Bare bones amenities in the bathroom, but more than adequate and comfortable.
