There are plenty of lounge and rocking chairs throughout the property to just read a book under a tree or rock yourself to sleep. There's a respectable-sized pool outdoor overlooking the river (with a diving board at the deep end), and a spa and sauna indoor. The larger room (Holly and Ivy) is 2-rooms connected together and out to the balcony with clothes line to help dry your clothes after your water adventures. The children's tale-themed rooms are decorated with family belongings and heirloom (e.g., the Blue Willow room was the owner's daughter's room), so you feel right at home. Some of our family members stayed in beds in the library downstairs surrounded by old and newer books next an antique desk and yes, a spinning wheel. Around the corner there is a pier with a bench on a floating dock tied to it. Night time is magical, with or without the moon and stars, and you can just watch the boat or house lights on the river side glitter over the water. There is no A/C, but honestly, the breeze -- even during the summer where it's 90-100 degrees elsewhere -- provides enough natural coolant that you may only need the fans, which are provided in the rooms. Robin, the friendly and accommodating owner, is always ready with a quick smile and a story about the history of the family or house. Common sense rules are posted for enjoyment of all (quiet hours observed after 11pm, tie the boat by the shed, care to be taken with the fragile bathroom system, etc.) The farm has Pixie the goat and the 2 sheep (who have gone viral with their own video!) along with chickens and ducklings and Pete the sweet dog (with his own police record!) and a cat who just roam about the property. Eggs from the farm are abundant and the owner encouraged us to cook and eat them lest they get spoiled. The town with groceries (Giant, Safeway), with restaurants and fast food (Arby's, Saigon Palace, and the Chesapeake Seafood with their superfresh seafood among others) are about a 15 min drive north, so this place is both secluded and convenient. If there were any drawback, there are mostly related to the water-sport area as some gears felt a bit worn (there's some "old ignored Chesapeake" feel to it), e.g., it would help to have more adult-sized comfortable life vest and more 2-paddle oars (to match the number of seats on the kayaks/boats if all boats are to be used). The greenhouse area where the sauna and spa is also just that -- a greenhouse, with tools lying around (don't expect a lavish steam room) -- but to me, these add to the charm of this down-to-earth B&B that makes it feel closer to home. The 1921 B&B history book mentioned spiritual entities (a white dog, a lady in black) but during our stay they didn't manifest themselves or being bothersome (they were all part of the ancestral family of the owner after all) -- It's actually made the stay a bit exciting and Robin told some of the historical stories quite light heartedly, which is appreciated. They do a great job making a historic property feel modern with ample outlets and usb ports, a very comfortable bed, and a mini fridge we used to store leftovers and beer. The TVs also have more channels than we ever have had in a hotel but rarely used given all the fun stuff in Annapolis. They also make the hotel accessible with elevators and wheelchair accessible rooms. The staff was also wonderful and accommodated us well by storing our belongings after checkout while we explored the State House on the 5th. We love how much is in a very short walking distance to here. Parking may be expensive but for car free people this is quite easy with commuter busses from DC and Baltimore, local Flixbus from DC and New York, local busses around the clock from Baltimore Light Rail's Cromwell station, as well as ample Ubers and Lyfts that may be cheaper than parking and no need to go past walking distance.

Located on Kent Island overlooking the Chesapeake, this is the perfect getaway. It took us about an hour to drive there from downtown (with no traffic) and was easy to find on a lightly traveled road a few miles from the main highway. The house is massive, but there are only two rooms available for guests. We recommend the Osprey room, which overlooks the bay. In the morning, you wake to a glorious sunrise on the bay. This is soon followed by breakfast carefully prepared by Maria and Ed Peffly, the owners. Each morning we had fresh fruit, and coffee followed by a main breakfast. One morning it was a salmon frittata the next is was blueberry and banana pancakes. The only down side of breakfast was having to muster uncomfortable conversation with the other couple there who were on a romantic getaway. But that is par for the course at a B+B. During the day we walked around in the nearby Terrapin State Park and explored the island. We were there in March, and the usual Kent island riff raff were not to be found. In the evenings we sat under the stars in the hot tub and let the stress slough away. We basically had the run of the house, and although there was one other couple there, we never saw them except at breakfast. The grounds were amazing and at night a herd (15 or so) deer can be seen munching away on the grass. There was a pool, but it wasn't open when we were there. They have a gym and game room that we used once (Who goes to a B&B to use the gym?) What else can I say, for $160 a night (in the off season, you get a wonderful room overlooking the bay, a great breakfast and seclusion from the real world. If I was to conjure criticisms, I would say that the rooms had a bit too much potpourri for our taste and that some of the decor was on the Laura Ashley side, but that is really being picky. This is a real gem. NOTE: I was reluctant to post this review for one simple reason--people will go to and love this place and we'll never be able to book a room again. But we liked the owners so much that we figured that keeping it a secret wouldn't be fair. Let me be frank. By people I mean you loathsome SUV driving butt cracks that make it necessary for rational people to escape DC. Please go to Disney.

To the left and right you and see picturesque views of the Chesapeake Bay. In front of you, you see a massive mansion-esk Bed & Breakfast that was built with extra #love by it's owner. Small architectural flourishes lend to the owners strong eye for aesthetic. A giant white tent 50 yards from the ceremony is where your guests will be partying, and a large stone patio with high bar tables around a small pool is where your guests will enjoy their cocktail hour. A separate small building off to the side houses fully plumbed in bathrooms with granite countertops make this luxurious experience continue in all facets and faucets! Hahahahhahaha - I'm such a dork. The perfect location for a wedding in every way. I mean... when this bed and breakfast was built, the intention was for it to also being a wedding venue. You can tell as there are ground anchors permanently placed around the pool and yard. Just a top notch place! Also Britny's Wedding gets 5 stars! :)

Pros: There are many more popular B&Bs and inns in town, but Point Breeze has several perks. Most of the B&Bs in St. Michaels are right on the main drag and not on the water. I doubt any of the other places have such a great view! 2) Kayaks, canoe, and bikes available for guest use -- no extra cost! 3) You're free to laze about anywhere on the beautifully landscaped yard. 4) You can fish from the private dock, and the innkeeper will help you "chicken neck" for crabs, if you want. 5) Joan, the innkeeper, makes a mean omelette and awesome German pancakes! 6) Speaking of Joan, she's a sweetie! So wonderful to talk to! 7) Very quiet area. Not right in town, so you don't get all the road noise. Very peaceful. 8) Free soft drinks available any time. 9) Costs quite a bit less than most other places in town. 10) Everything was spotlessly clean and comfortable. 11) Wi-Fi for all! 12) If you have a family of 6 and 2 people don't mind twin beds, you could rent the whole house out. Cons (sort of): 1) This isn't a con for me, but I can see how it could be for other people: Point Breeze's guest rooms are not fancy. You feel like you're staying over with relatives. We liked it, though! 2) No TVs in the guest rooms. A small TV is available in the great room. We really didn't care, however. We weren't there to watch TV. 3) If you don't want to take a short walk or bike ride into town, you'd be better off staying in town. We enjoyed the walk in -- not far for us at all! 4) Not many rooms -- only 3. But if you want to stay someplace quiet, this shouldn't be a problem. 5) 2 of the rooms share a bathroom. Not a big deal if you are staying with family or close friends. If you are a couple, there is one room available with a private bath. 6) Bare bones amenities in the bathroom, but more than adequate and comfortable.

I had visited St. Michaels before and Oxford is a few miles down the road and is a much quieter gem of a place to visit. Combsberry Inn has a long, tree lined driveway which is the first indication that you are visiting an old, special place. The house was built in the 1700's and all of the rooms have a beautiful view of the water. We stayed in the Oxford Cottage which is a separate building aptly nicknamed, "the dollhouse". It is the only pet-friendly accommodation but I am happy that's where we stayed because it was adorable and classy at the same time. We had a wood-burning fireplace with a starter log and more wood on the patio. There is a nice jacuzzi for two and vases with fresh flowers throughout the cottage. The bedroom is in the loft so it's only a full size bed but it's cozy. My only minor gripe is that the bed was too firm for my tastes, but my husband had no complaints. There are windows everywhere for great breezes. There is also a kitchen with a stove for any cooking you may want to do, a small fridge, and a microwave. You can sit on your patio and gaze at the water or walk down to the dock to look at the nesting ospreys (really!). Our dogs really loved running around the backyard and sleeping by the fireplace. They also have some books that we used and it was nice to disconnect with no tvs around. Best of all, breakfast and coffee is delivered to your doorstep at 9 am so you have no reason to get up early. We had homemade cinnamon buns, yogurt, and fresh fruit. I hope to come back sometime when the canoes and kayaks are ready for use to check out the beautiful waterways. The Robert Morris Inn is only a 5 minute drive away and is a great place to grab a romantic dinner. FYI - if you hear any crazy "screams" in the middle of the night, you are hearing the foxes! We saw a fox jump in front of our car too - so be careful driving around at night.

First off the staff is wonderfully pleasant - happy to answer any and all questions and very accessible without being overbearing. Because there was no one else at the inn they upgraded us from the one-bedroom cottage to the two-bedroom carriage house, free of charge. They are pet friendly and our little mutt certainly loved running around the extra space as well as the huge grounds. The house itself was the perfect eastern shore experience; country-quaint meets modern convenience. There was a fully upgraded kitchen, a large living room with gas fireplace, half bathroom, and a formal dining area. Each bedroom (which are located on opposites sides of the house, great for couples or families!) has it's own gas fireplace, four post king bed and bathroom with jacuzzi tub. The highlight, in my opinion, is the floor to ceiling windowed doors across the living room that give you a beautiful view of the grounds leading right up to the water. The technology offerings are low (an old tv without cable and dvd player provide the living room entertainment while their is only wireless internet available in the main house library) it is absolutely perfect for a "get-away-from-it-all" style vacation. In the morning the staff brings a basket with breakfast - muffins, bread pudding, smoothies and orange juice. While we came here on a deal, the regular prices are great for the experience and privacy you get (395 for the cottage or 700 for the full carriage house). We look forward to returning when the weather picks up a bit so we can take advantage of swimming and kayaking right off the property.

With a snowstorm just having passed and a last-minute plan to celebrate my daughter's 22nd birthday, we were so lucky to come across this beautiful home. Although we're a big family, this trip was just five of us -- and wow, there was more than enough space. In fact, I've already started planning future bookings because this will definitely be our yearly getaway spot. The views are stunning, and the home feels exactly like that -- a home -- with a modern touch that makes everything feel fresh, comfortable, and welcoming. The location was also very easy to find, which made arrival stress-free. Everything you need for your stay is thoughtfully provided. The house is HUGE, but not in a cold or empty way. As soon as you walk in, it unfolds like a story -- you can truly feel the love, care, and appreciation that's been poured into this place over time. There are multiple sitting areas, plenty of space for gatherings, and so many little touches that make it special. The host went above and beyond. They were incredibly accommodating and even answered a question for us at 1 a.m. -- something I fully expected to wait until morning. That level of care says everything. This host genuinely takes the extra mile to make sure you're comfortable and well taken care of. We visited in the winter with lots of snow, and it was magical. The Chesapeake had frozen, and we were actually able to skate on it safely -- an experience I'll never forget at 43, and one my children will always remember too. I can already imagine how amazing this place must be in the spring and summer with fishing, swimming, and endless outdoor activities. No matter the season, this is an incredible place to stay.
