A beautiful place to wake up in the morning and run down to the beach to fish and crab. After lunch, go for a dip in the pool or a ride on a kayak.

We stayed in The Law Library. The view from the room was fun--we could look out our window and see people walking around the town. You can't beat the location--you can walk everywhere. The architecture was so cool. The house had lots of acute and obtuse angles to fit on the lot between the city streets. The living room was so cozy. I wish my own living room could be so welcoming. We especially loved getting to know Maggie the dog, sweetie extraordinaire. The couple that runs the property are nice and down to earth. They have coffee out in the morning and the woman cooks a full gourmet Breakfast where you get a chance to meet the other travelers! You also have access to Tea/cookies and snacks throughout your stay. It really felt like home while we were there. Parking garages are nearby and they can hook you up with a half off discount code. We'll be back!

The rest of the house is fair game for guests. The rooms have different types of configurations, but all have private bathrooms. There are even some suites that are great for families. Our family, with two adults and two teens actually occupied two rooms and that worked well. Unlike other Bob& B's I have stayed at, we felt comfortable using the entire house & grounds, whether it was playing pool, watching television in the family room, fishing in the lake, or chatting in the kitchen. The kitchen is stocked with snacks and beverages at all times. A full buffet breakfast is provided daily. The options vary but I always enjoyed the yogurt & honey and fresh fruit, which was a staple. You will enjoy chatting with Tiffany at any time. She will do anything to make your stay more comfortable. For example, she offered to take our laundry along with her own to the wash & fold in town do we wouldn't have to spend our own time doing it. If you need a place to stay in Annapolis, I would highly recommend forgoing the usual hotel chains and trying Laurel Grove Inn.

The Inn at Tacaro Estate has a lot going for it. The mansion exudes old world charm from an era…read morethat I can only read about in books and magazines. It is a magnificent estate home in a storybook setting. The man who built the home, Taylor Chewning, owned a large brick foundry and that is evident throughout the grounds. The mansion itself is brick, many of the walkways are brick, the extensive stables are brick. This brick added to the almost palatial feeling of the Inn. The view from the front lawn (and from the back lawn actually) put us both at ease; it is a place to sit and read - completely relaxing. The Inn allows us to step out of the hectic and crowded life we have in the city; it transports us to rolling lawns, the smell of fresh grass, beautiful views of the Chesapeake Bay. For a short weekend trip away from DC, it was a nice way to unwind. However, there are things about the Inn that keep it from being five - or even four - star. I get that the bathrooms are original to the house, vintage and keeping with the ambiance of the mansion (which was originally built in 1940). That is interesting but, for me, when I am treating myself to a weekend away, I want a modern bathroom with modern features. I want a walk-in shower, 2 sinks, a separate toilet room. The 1940's style of the bathroom was a complete let-down for me. Now, I knew it would be like this because the pictures on the Inn's website showed the bathroom. So, I was not surprised. But, staying there for a weekend emphasized that the world of design, particularly in bathrooms, has progressed a lot - I bet even the Chewnings (original owners) would not put up with the current state of these bathrooms. There was plenty of room in our suite to expand the bathroom and renovate it into a modern, first-rate spa-like oasis. If the Inn wishes to up its game, it will have to do that. Likewise, there were smaller cues that reflected a lack of modernization and elegance. Poorly hung wallpaper, mis-matched furniture perhaps purchased from yard sales, electric cords handing loosely all over our room, outdoor furniture that is not in great condition, windows that are dirty and paint peeling here and there. The Inn at Tacaro Estate misses being a 1st class destination because the little things are not up to par. The service is also lacking. They try but, like some of the facilities, they miss the mark here. My overall lasting impression of the Inn at Tacaro Estate is rather like Blanche Dubois from Streetcar Named Desire. Old world charm and elegance trying to remain swanky but actually run-down and not maintained, failing to meet current standards of hospitality. The beautiful dress that Blanche wore as a young girl in high society is now tattered and torn here and there. I can appreciate the posh clothing from another time but I also recognize that it is old and weathered. The owners have a very special piece of land and a beautiful home here. But they need to bite the bullet, spend the money and upgrade the finishes, the furniture and the service if they hope to make the Inn a real upscale destination. In the 1940's, I am certain that this mansion exuded money and upper-class refinement. However, for my stay here in the 2020's, it is more of a historical glimpse of pre-WWII society. I am willing to pay for luxury and that is what I want for a weekend away. But Tacaro Estate simply does not provide luxury. For these reasons, I cannot recommend a stay at the Inn at Tacaro Estate. I hate to give this place this tepid review. However, I feel that I am being honest.

Us and the Nigerians probably invented shade centuries ago. That being said, I know this place is incredible because my parents raved about it!!!! They loved it! They called me immediately after they return home from their weekend trip, and had nothing but wonderful things to say about their stay. They said the location is beautiful and not very far from where they live in Howard County so they felt well rested when they returned home. They loved their room and were huge fans of the art gallery in the common area. Talking to the gallery curator might've been my mom's favorite part of their stay. She kept talking about how beautiful the art was and how she enjoyed talking to the curator, and my mom is not even a big art person so I was surprised to hear this. My dad who loves to eat, said the breakfast was fantastic and enjoyed the multiple courses. They also enjoyed that they had the opportunity to introduce themselves and meet the other guests during breakfast, their favorite guest was a woman named Ms. Gwen who was celebrating her 86th birthday. Apparently, she was the life of the party! They also enjoyed walking around the property and the neighborhood. They didn't go to the spa (because my brothers and I didn't pay for that part). However, they said they want to go for another weekend visit next year and they'll consider checking out the spa. They also said that Ms. Sheila was wonderful and they had a fantastic time and they're looking forward to going back next year. They didn't take any pictures for me to share, but I can say if my Ghanaian parents loved this place, you'll love it too! And I have to give a shoutout to Nicaila Matthews Okome for introducing me to this place when she featured the owner, Lisa, on her podcast, Side Hustle Pro!

Located on Kent Island overlooking the Chesapeake, this is the perfect getaway. It took us about an hour to drive there from downtown (with no traffic) and was easy to find on a lightly traveled road a few miles from the main highway. The house is massive, but there are only two rooms available for guests. We recommend the Osprey room, which overlooks the bay. In the morning, you wake to a glorious sunrise on the bay. This is soon followed by breakfast carefully prepared by Maria and Ed Peffly, the owners. Each morning we had fresh fruit, and coffee followed by a main breakfast. One morning it was a salmon frittata the next is was blueberry and banana pancakes. The only down side of breakfast was having to muster uncomfortable conversation with the other couple there who were on a romantic getaway. But that is par for the course at a B+B. During the day we walked around in the nearby Terrapin State Park and explored the island. We were there in March, and the usual Kent island riff raff were not to be found. In the evenings we sat under the stars in the hot tub and let the stress slough away. We basically had the run of the house, and although there was one other couple there, we never saw them except at breakfast. The grounds were amazing and at night a herd (15 or so) deer can be seen munching away on the grass. There was a pool, but it wasn't open when we were there. They have a gym and game room that we used once (Who goes to a B&B to use the gym?) What else can I say, for $160 a night (in the off season, you get a wonderful room overlooking the bay, a great breakfast and seclusion from the real world. If I was to conjure criticisms, I would say that the rooms had a bit too much potpourri for our taste and that some of the decor was on the Laura Ashley side, but that is really being picky. This is a real gem. NOTE: I was reluctant to post this review for one simple reason--people will go to and love this place and we'll never be able to book a room again. But we liked the owners so much that we figured that keeping it a secret wouldn't be fair. Let me be frank. By people I mean you loathsome SUV driving butt cracks that make it necessary for rational people to escape DC. Please go to Disney.

Before we left I planned a surprise sailing cruise for my fiancé and Aida left a sweet note about the gift from me and vouchers for complimentary gelato around the corner for us. She is so accommodating even when a few little things didn't go as planned for us. (Car trouble, weather... not her doing at all but she made them easier to manage.) She has great suggestions for what to do in St. Michael's. Breakfast was set up beautifully in the morning and cooked to order. Portions were huge if you wanted them. We are lighter eaters and once I told her that she gave us perfect smaller portions, but if you want a big breakfast you will not be disappointed here. The inn only has about eight rooms, and each is different. Ours was very comfortable with flowers, art and antiques wherever I looked. There's central air and the softest towels I think I've ever used. She lets you keep stuff in the fridge and even said we could use her laundry when my fiancé sat on something and messed up his pants. We had leftovers when we needed to leave and she gave us a styrofoam cooler to take with us... that will be used a lot this summer, I'm sure. The location is walking distance to most things in town, so while there is off street parking, we walked most of the time. You can't go wrong here with Aida's Victoriana Inn! Note, though, a lot of businesses and restaurants in town are operating at partial capacity or reduced hours, or are closed due to Covid 19. This has nothing to do with the Victoriana Inn, but it is worth calling ahead if you have specific things you want to do while in town to make sure they're available. We had to shift some dining plans but it was a last minute getaway and we didn't care all that much. It a worked out but if you have your heart set on something, check in advance to make sure you'll be able to do it.
