The service here is amazing. Everyone was full of energy and eager to help. I noticed that they recognized some of their customers and knew them on a first name basis. I wanted to rate this place higher, but the food just didn't do it for me. The chips and salsa were pretty good. The cheese dip was good, but runny....so you didn't get much on the chip. I ordered a lunch special with a bean burrito, cheese enchilada and rice. The rice was a little too salty for me and it seemed to be the only seasoning in the rice. The burrito was really good. I liked the beans and the red sauce on top. Cheese enchiladas are usually one of my favorite things to order, but this one didn't rise to the occasion. My tortilla was a bit chewy and the cheese was really thick and stringy. The lunch special was only 4.99, so I feel like it was a great value. They advertise "Authentic Mexican Food" They don't deliver on that. Prepared taco shells, beans from a can, prepared sauces, like enchilada sauce, and nasty rice. It takes a lot to mess up Mexican food for me. However Maria's managed to do it. First the excuse they had for a chalupa was basically refried beans, guacamole, and tomatoes. The rice had zero flavor. The chili relleno was cooked on way to high of heat so everything was melted but the pepper was still solid. Everything was drenched in cheese to the point you could not pick the taco up off the plate. The tamale and chicken enchilada was good. The street tacos were the only saving grace. The asada was tender and flavorful. The men's restroom was disgusting with what we only hope was cheese in the sink. The service was friendly but very, very slow. The food was about as bad as it could be while still being edible. My hard taco shell was stale. I overheard another table having to ask for a server cuz it had been 15 mins or so since anyone had came by. This place wasn't even busy, and still could barely get service. The only thing better than the food was the excellent and attentive wait staff.
