First time trying the local Mexican food, the service was wonderful very attentive server. The ambiance was bright and colorful perfect volume music the chairs were comfortable with high backs! However, the food was mid at best We were thrown off with the taste of the beef it was unseasoned and tasted like it was from a can. We were intercepted at the door immediately and asked our choice of seating. The atmosphere was family oriented/date night. The wait staff was attentive and friendly. We ordered the parrillada Jalisco which is pictured. As you see by the amazement of the little one, it was definitely a large dish fit for two. What was not pictured is the plate of rice, beans, pico de gallo, sour cream and guacamole with tortillas. Basically a fajita side plate. I was most surprised by the fact that this dish cost $1 less than fajitas for two. Even shared, we took a to go box for later. The shrimp was deliciously cooked along with the ribeye, chicken, carnitas and chorizo as well as the veggies. The kids don't like fish or seafood but they almost ate all of our shrimp. Remember as a kid, your mom said don't swallow your gum because it will get all hung up inside you. I am very worried about the cheese that was in the chili relleno. Before selecting a restaurant, I always scan the reviews and pictures. Especially the pictures. The pictures have more information than most reviews. A fellow Yelp reviewer posted a picture of a live roach that he had dispassionately and callously "Flicked" to the floor. He didn't describe the outcome on the roach's wellbeing the after the assault. We can only hope it turned out positively for the roach. I am no entomologist, but in the picture the roach looked like he was healthy and had been well fed. That's a strong indication that the food is good. Convincing pictorial evidence that got me on the road to Sallisaw. And it was. Thin crisp chips. Great salsa picante. Fast attentive friendly service. The flavor and seasoning of the food were very good. I like a good mole rojo on relleno. El Toro's hit the spot. My taco and my wife's enchiladas, beans and rice made up good OkieMex plates of food. Enjoyable except for the cheese filled relleno. The cheese in the relleno was most likely made by Wrigley's or Goodyear; a stringy, chewy, vulcanized mozzarella on steroids. If a cheese could have gristle this cheese would be the one. Even though the cheese was heated to mouth scorching temperatures it maintained its elasticity and only got stronger as it cooled in my mouth. Chewy and tasteless. It was not Monterey Jack. My recommendation is to pass on the relleno until the restaurant switches to a cheese less chewy than a bungee cord. Or get it filled with meat, WITHOUT cheese. With all that said......I still recommend El Toro! Easy access off I-40. Lots of parking space. A clean, nicely decorated restaurant. read more

El Toro is a hopping joint on a Sunday. Get there before noon if you can. We loved this little Mexican restaurant with its bright orange walls and welcoming feel. Because we are budget conscious, and I'm a pretty small eater, we went with the #9 and #14 special for $8.99 each! There's no place near us that has Mexican food that cheap where we live! The flavorful red Chile smothered everything on the plate. I think you can smother items With white queso as well. Everything was tasty. My Husband enjoyed his Ground beef burrito the most and I probably enjoyed the Chile relleno best- just personal preference. Very solid meal and worth every penny, for sure! read more

Wow, last few times It was here it was amazing! 5* Mexico experience! This time was a disaster, got our drinks wrong, got our order wrong twice, did not send it back the third time just did not eat it. When you tell the server about an allergy it needs attention. There was definitely lost in translation, server was the problem, I dont know if he was new or just didn't understand. There were six of us and everyone was disappointed. What a great little find in Sallisaw OK! To start, the service was excellent and fast. We had our drinks, salsa and chips within 8 minutes of being seated. Our food came out piping hot and delicious. Ask for the Tomatillo sauce, but go easy, it's got a good bite. We were there on a Sunday afternoon so it wasn't too crowded. They have a Sunday brunch which packs them in! thru the Door Dash app, I ordered 2 orders of chicken fajitas (double orders each). I arrived there in 20-30 minutes later and then had to wait 10 minutes for my order. quality of food: not good. why? an abundance of oil. fajitas are marinated and cooked in oil/marinade but that shouldn't be overwhelmingly in the end product. not in the quantity of product I received. it was a sloppy mess. plus, the overwhelming amount and quantity of chicken to vegetables (e.g. peppers and onion) and there were no tomatoes. meaning, there wasn't much chicken they don't even give you guacamole or sour cream. they barely speak English. this is not a slight but is important when communicating your order. in Sallisaw, go with Maria's. it's a better value and, in my opinion, taste bette. although, they should cut their chicken smaller. Tried this place for the first time - just now. DO NOT EAT here. First - found a hair in the salsa. Let that go. I am in the restaurant business......Accidents happen, got a new salsa. However, as we were finishing dinner we look down and there is a LIVE COCKROACH crawling on the bench. There didn't seem to be a manager in duty so I had them call the owner - he could care less that he has bugs in his restaurant. El Toro is by far our favorite Mexican restaurant in town! Their food is good in person and to go. Some of our favorites are the Chicken Special and the fajitas. Their chips and salsa are good too! The only downside is sometimes it is super busy, so it may take a bit to be seated but the servers have always been good to us there too. read more

We're recent transplants from Southern California, and found this gem of a restaurant while driving thru OK. It's so good we'll drive the two hours to return! Very much like SoCal Mexican food, crispy pork carnitas, super-flavorful tomatillo salsa, hot crunchy taquitos! Delightfully-friendly service & piping hot food, clearly made to order. WOW!!! What can I say...we visited this place and it was AMAZING!!! We were in town for a softball tournament and needed to find a good place to eat. We looked on yelp and this place was open till 10:00pm. We were greeted right away by Paco and he waited on us with superb customer service. Food was very HOT and had great flavor! This was a clean efficient new Resturant. Our food was piping hot and very good. The staff is friendly and sing on your birthday. I had the number one with white sauce and it was all good, especially the chili rellano . Only thing that needed attention was the restroom.. will be back when out that way. read more
