I dropped off my dress 3 weeks ago and was given a pick up date. Due to a change in my work schedule I wasn't able to make it in the afternoon originally quoted. I called and the employee I spoke to said it would be ok to pick it up 4 days later. Well when I arrived at the new pick up date and time my dress wasn't ready! I was begged to come back when I returned she was still working on it and said she was just ironing it, however when she finally brought it out is was wrinkled so obviously it wasn't being ironed. Maria nearly ruined my dress and I had to find another tailor to try to salvage what he could! I'm very disappointed in how this entire situation was handled and hope you take the time to find another business when you are in need of tailoring services. read more

The staff were inconsiderate and rude, I went in to get my prom dress hemmed instead it was butchered and ruined. She had 5 inches of fabric to the back because in quotes it seems like it needed to fit me better" so instead, I look super fat. They cut off the strings that connect to my arms, knowing that that's what they did without asking, but a lot of string and everything overall rude inconsiderate employees and no business should be done here, they over charge and charge for things they don't even do read more

I am so surprised with all of the negative reviews. Maria's tailoring and alterations went above and beyond to help with my wedding alterations. They altered my after party dress and my rehearsal dinner jumpsuit. They were able to finish it in a fast timeline and alter the jumpsuit over 3 sizes (I bought it on stillwhite and it was really big when I brought it in) They were so nice and kind throughout the whole process and excited to be part of my special day. Do NOT recommend. Was told to pick up dress Thursday at 5:00 for a dance on Friday (dropped it off well over a week before this). Showed up at 5:00 to a "closed" sign. Called, knocked on door etc. My daughter was in tears thinking she would not get her dress in time for her dance on Friday. The phone number on the sign outside is "out of service." Kept calling the number on the website and owner finally answered and told us to come back. I told the owner/seamstress that we were told by the worker to come at five on Thursday, and she said, "She never told me," yet I saw the worker writer in the calendar on the counter right in front of us. Additionally, we were told the dress would be pressed when altered. Dress all wrinkled. Minor alteration to cinch in bustline cost $35. read more

Unfortunately I had a terrible experience here. I brought my wedding gown here to get altered several months before the wedding. I was told to only come back once and that it would be finished. When I arrived, she had completely forgotten about the gown and could not find it for some time. She did find it, explained she would have it done in a week, and my wedding was 2 weeks away. I ended up pulling it out, she still charged us for some of the butcher cutting work she did. I would not recommend this shop. read more

I am surprised by the negative reviews here. Came here because I was looking up her hours. I've used Maria's for 4-5 years now and I always have a good experience. Granted, I'm a guy and haven't had the need to work on a wedding gown. But, she has worked on a couple of my $1,000 suits and done excellent work each time. Slow, expensive, and the service is very poor. I found a better option in Plymouth, MA with Reliable Cleaners as I have had completely the opposite experience there. I had lost a substantial amount of weight, so most items in my closet were too big. Maria's loss, due to a really horrible experience over several trips, is Reliable's gain!!! read more

I was so hopeful to have a good experience here, but alas I've had a few negative experiences with Maria and felt the need to leave a review. The first time I went, I made an appointment for 10:15am and when I showed up the store was locked. I waited outside for at least 10 minutes before she arrived. Then when I went back 2 weeks later to pick up my dress on the day I was told it would be ready, the dress was not ready. I was told it would be done in 30 minutes so I killed time downtown but when I went back it still wasn't done and I ended up having to come back the next day to pick it up. Also the craftsmanship was only decent - not what I expected for the price ($65 for a hem on a dress). I'm honestly not sure why I brought another dress to her, but I did. I dropped off on 9/25 and was told it would be done 10/9. I called yesterday to see if they were open (due to the holiday) and she said yes but she was just finishing up my dress and asked if I could come in a few hours. I said that I couldn't come later so I would just come by sometime today to pick it up instead. Well, I just went in to get my dress and she said she is finishing it up and asked me to come back in an hour. I expressed my frustration and she apologized and said she "got busy". I don't know what that means as you would think she would prioritize garments based on when they were promised to her customers. Also as a point of reference she quoted me $45 to take in my dress by less than 1 dress size. Despite all this if you choose to use her services, my advice is as follows: 1. call ahead before you go in for an appointment to make sure she is in the shop, 2. leave yourself plenty of extra room between the day Maria tells you the garment will be ready and when you actually need it back, and 3. call ahead to verify your garment is ready before you drive down there. read more

My daughter had my wedding dress altered to fit her and Maria did a PERFECT job. She even added some extra touches that made the gown easier to wear. We did give her lots of time to complete the alterations. Maria gave her a final fitting and fine-tuned the tailoring so that the dress look perfectly beautiful and fit perfectly too! I can't comment on her sewing abilities, because I made an appointment to have a dress tailored but she never showed up. I drove in Cape traffic on a Saturday in the summer to her shop in Plymouth and waited 30 minutes for her. I'm prompted to write this review now because my best friend had an appointment today and she's a no show again. Do not depend on this business, clearly they are unreliable and have no regard for customer service. Oh and don't get desperate and go to Dominic's, I did and my dress came back shortened unevenly. $65 for a hem that was not even?! read more

I can't thank Maria enough for altering my wedding dress in such a short amount of time. I came in a few months before my wedding day with my dress that was awfully big, and extremely nervous that there wasn't enough time to get it fixed. It was made with incredibly delicate lace and the wedding was about 8 weeks away. However, when I arrived, Maria assured me that she could make it work and have it looking as it was supposed to. Called this Maria's by accident thinking it was Maria's of Italy because they are only a few doors down from eachother on court street. I decided unfortunately to just go where I had booked an appointment which was here at Maria's tailoring and alterations. I went with my wedding gown! I needed a few inches taken off the length as well as my sash sewn on and it taken in because I had lost weight! She very unevenly took my hem up, poorly stitched on my sash it looked like a 5 year old sewed it on with her eyes closed. She took my dress is alright however I then had my zipper flap sticking straight off my dress I looked like I had a shark fin it was awful, after insisting she could fix it she tried 3 times only making it worse. It ended with me still paying her way more than she deserved and leaving in tears having to have it fixed at Maria's of Italy-Kelly was a life saver and I now have a fixed dressed! My suggestion is don't even start out with Maria's because it'll just need to be fixed. read more

Because I can sew from a pattern and hem my family's garments, I have not needed the services of a tailor. But, a wedding gown? Alterations to my daughter's Maggie Sottero wedding gown I felt were beyond my expertise. Online I could find only one review for a local seamtress, but she did not do wedding gowns. At Maria's, the bride and I were initially relieved that Maria welcomed our gown and its needed alterations. In hindsight I recommend that you DO NOT bring a gown to this shop for anything more than a hem. My daughter's gown needed to be hemmed, the bodice needed to be made smaller then pads added, a hook and loop for a bustle needed to be added, and a tuck was needed on a back strap. When the gown was finished as best as Maria could accomplish, the bodice was LUMPY. The padded cups she added were not trimmed to size, they were just roughly tacked into the dress with the bodice still at about a size D. (The bodice needed to be reduced to a size B.) The hem was done nicely. The tuck in the back strap was done. I took the dress back to Maria with an idea that she could take the seams in on the front lining and satin layer of cups of the bodice. She said she could not do that. She had charged us $300 (which my daughter had paid in full on our first visit...in hindsight, not recommended) When asked, Maria would not refund any of our money. We were stuck with a dress with lumpy boobs and a wedding in about 5 weeks. I mustered up all of my courage, removed Maria's pads, and fixed the bodice myself. It came out beautifully. On the wedding day the bride and I discovered that the hook Maria added for the bustle was stitched OVER the back zipper which prevented it from going down all the way. So, in short we paid $300 for a hemming, a tuck, and a faulty bustle. What a terrible experience. read more
