Visited this place for a natural style. I'm natural but usually wear my hair straight. I've been looking for a few go to styles to decrease frequent heat use and manipulation as I would like to retain growth. My stylist was Quen. After 2 consultations, I decided on flat twist with hopes that I would have a nice full twist out after taking them down. I was on time for my appointment and discussed being out on time as I have to pick up my children from school. Someone else was in her chair so I waited a while before getting started. The shop owner, Marie, was the only other stylist there at the time. After telling my stylist I needed to be available to pick up my kids from school, Marie jumped in and started shampooing me. The shop is nice and the atmosphere and conversation was very pleasant. Both were very professional and welcoming. Midway through I had to leave and pick up my kids. I returned and we finished the style and I went under the dryer. The style was nice but not necessarily a style I felt flattering to me. I looked forward to the twist out. I took the front down into a bang and then realized the product used to twist my hair was extremely to heavy. So much so that I had to wash my hands and face after manipulating it. I kept the flat twist 2 days. I had to wash it once I untwisted because it was extremely too greasy. The cost was comparable to other natural hair salon prices. I did call and let my stylist know. I would have appreciated a coupon or some type of understanding gesture to return and try again. I feel like she should have just used setting lotion/foam wrap, but she used a heavier mix that she probably uses on dreads. $70 bucks is a lot for 2 days of wear. read more

Stylist from Africa (humm yanno what dey say bout dat) was take shoes off and box braidin her own hair in front row she had no edges.Never goin here again.i ask her what she doin to my edges and she told me find better place. read more

I love this salon. I move around a lot and generally shy away from new salons and stylists, opting to just take care of my own hair rather than dealing with the disappointment of yet another salon mishap. Additionally, I find that it is hard to find reasonably priced salons that are also professional. Marie's is professional and very clean with talented stylists. I moved to the area two years ago and have been going there for a year and a half. I dread leaving the area in large part because I can't take my stylist with me :) read more

I never went back. The stylist didn't understand natural hair and actually insulted me when refusing to take a walk-in customer because she "already had this" *pointed to my hair while shampooing like it was so overwhelming. I'm not sure why she was unprepared. I wasn't a walk in. I actually called a week in advance and was scheduled by Marie - who seems pleasant enough - but I told Marie I was natural with a full head of 4a/4b hair. Marie still decided to schedule me with the stylist who had no client base. This woman took 15 minutes blow drying me straight (when I clearly don't use heat on my hair so it's not heat trained) then applies a water based mousse. I could see Marie silently watching me look unamused while this stylist floundered. The products and curling rods she used were from another stylists cabinet - probably Marie's- they were too small for the amount of hair on my head so I was stuck under the dryer for 90 minutes - she checked on me zero times. I tipped her minimum 10% because she was otherwise pleasant and she didn't rush to finish but she picked the wrong techniques so I didn't get the results. I'm usually a reliable 20% tipper. I combed it out the next morning. I called back a few weeks later to see if I could try Marie's chair. Since the shop was located close, the other clients seemed friendly and the ambiance was peaceful enough to be a regular, but Marie wouldn't book me because she was going out of town on a Friday -- which means clearly she doesn't need new clients -- so I just never went back. That was about a year ago. Its also the last time I gave my money to a salon in Severn. That entire street, the whole Severn/Odenton area really, is full of salon's with stylist who just take your money. read more

Extremely aggressive Toxic leadership/owner. Considering this small business is her livelihood- the shop is only as good as her weakest stylist. That being said, she is Non caring in the most Completely disgraceful way. Unprofessional, lack of skill and rude at BEST. Beyond disgusted with my traumatic "experience" here. I went here for the first time about a month ago. I had an appointment and was taken back shortly after arriving. The atmosphere was great and the stylist did a good job on my hair. The only reason I gave it 4 stars versus 5 is the salon has somewhat limited hours. They are closed on Sunday and Monday and their last appointment on Saturdays is at 12:30. If not for this, I would be a regular customer. The prices were pretty typical for the area. read more

Karen is a stylist I would not recommend. She is unprofessional and has an unpleasant attitude if you ask her a question or have a suggestion about services that you are paying for with your hard-earned money. There are many stylists in the DC/MD/VA area who provide great service at the same price, so do your research. Here's a TIP, go to a stylist who starts on your appointment time, does not talk over you while you're being serviced, and does not try to "nickel-and-dime" you on prices. Make sure you review the price list up front and ask questions before you begin, because prices could change based on Karen's attitude. read more

The salon is professional yet down home. It's not pretentious and I love my natural hair styles done by Quen one of the stylists. Everyone is friendly and I don't have to wait all day. The prices are competitive and there's usually no surprises at the end. Definitely worth the 20 minute trip from my house. read more

Spoiled. That's what happened to me when I went for a long - overdue cut & style. I was welcomed into a waiting area that was more reminiscent of a living room than any salon waiting room I'd ever seen since the stylist we went y o when I was a girl! I use a power chair for long distances, like getting to the salon from home, but can walk short distances. Not taking any chances, my stylist looped her arm through mine & we walked back as I told her things she'd need to know about my hair. I have a short neck that has frustrated every stylist I'd gone to, but not this one. An adjustable soft collar cradled my neck & kept it comfortable as she shampooed my hair...& lifted my feet up with the footstool of the chair! Yes, that's right - a reclining shampoo chair with a soft padded collar that kept my back dry while I had one of the most decadent shampoos/scalp massages of my life. Now, to be honest, I'd have been on Cloud 9 with just that, but my stylist helped me out of that wonderful chair, making certain I was escorted to another comfy chair, & gave me a wonderful cut & style. Magic! Sheer magic...& shear magic. I will be back. I do want to give a nod to my former stylist, who was a master of his craft. I kept calling the salon & getting rolled to VM, where I'd leave a message asking him...or the manager...to tell me, at least, if they were OK...had they moved? Had the shop closed? NOTHING. No calls back, despite my leaving my digits several times, I got no response. At this point, Ricky, if you're reading this, please at least let me know if you're OK. Meanwhile, Marie's Mane Connections is my new oasis when my hair needs styled again. The talent, genuine caring, & skill LaWanda showed me while making me feel human again with a wonderful haircut & style, plus the welcoming decor, plus the ease of getting a shampoo done...the sheer luxury of the setup that allowed me to relax instead of trying to stretch my neck out as I've had to do in every single salon since my earliest haircuts as a child...having my back remain dry for the first time after a shampoo in a salon in my life...being able to enjoy, fully, an excellent shampoo...well, that's enough to get me back right there. Add in LaWanda's genuine caring & her skill, & the welcoming decor, all I can say to other salons is, at least get some of those shampoo chairs! I've had excellent stylists & been very blessed that way, & now I have been blessed with another. Thanks, LaWanda. I'll see you again when my hair needs the touch of a master stylist! read more

Marie's is a down-home, best friend house feeling kind of salon. You are acknowledged by everyone when you walk thru the doors. By your second or third visit, all of the stylists will know your name. Virginia is my favorite at the salon. Very serious about her gift. She is exceptional at hair care maintenance, color treatments, short hair cuts, and natural hair care. Prices are very reasonable. The salon has assistants who wash and do other things so you are not sitting there waiting on your stylists to do everything. I would highly recommend this salon to every woman. read more
