I recently moved back to the area and wasn't happy with the haircut I had gotten at the end of January. Well, I wanted to give them a chance to give me my first balayage, but it unfortunately ended in disaster. The woman who did my hair was named Lucy, and while she was nice and pleasant to talk to, she had no idea what she was doing when it came to hair. My hair is not a balayage at all, and I'm honestly a little embarrassed to show pictures but I will post them anyway. She bleached the top of my head so that the hair that frames my face would be blonde, but that's not what I asked for. The back of my hair was hardly the color I asked for either (I wanted ashy blonde), and they put a ton of toner in it so it was mixed light brown/ashy/dark brown with grey ends (because I did have previous faded grey dye in my hair from a month ago), and then my front is blonde. It's bad, y'all... Lucy also gave me a bad cut, with shoddy non-existent layers, and also attempted to give me a middle part which only sort of worked... I'm giving them two stars because the owner reached out to me personally and gave me a full refund. The owner, Sarah, really tried her best to make me happy, but something went awry with the communication to Lucy about my hair. Sarah did offer me to come back and get it redone by another staff member for free, which I deeply appreciate, but at this point I am too afraid and already have a consultation with another salon. Overall, really disappointed in this experience but at the very least they did give me my money back. read more

Well, I've found my new salon! This was my first visit to Thirty Hair and I had a wonderful experience. To start, my first visit happen to fall on their last day in the current salon. Tomorrow they will be moving just down the way to the other end of the shopping center they're in now. Because of this, I think it may have caused a bit of a delay in responding to my original call earlier in the week. I did have to call twice, but they totally made up for it by getting me in the very next day! Everyone was extremely warm, welcoming, and accommodating. My stylist, Allison was friendly, knowledgeable, and perfectly communicative. I love the fact that she gave me time to describe what I wanted and also go over pricing before we got started. I don't think I've ever had a stylist do that before and have often times been stuck with a surprise price at the end! After talking about what I was looking for, Allison was able to deliver in a timely and professional manner. One thing I absolutely loved about the salon was this little sign they had posted on the wall next to my styling chair. I tried to take a picture but yelp doesn't let me zoom, so the gist of it was: ...we are here to help you have a good time not to debate or discuss contentious topics like politics or whether or not to wear a mask... This was a breath of fresh air, since this was one main reason I stopped going to my previous salon! I also love that they offer good deals such as a $20 off coupon for your first visit (on website), as Well as a check-in offer here on yelp for a free travel-sized Aveda hand lotion (this is an Aveda salon, so they use and sell Aveda products primarily and YAY, Aveda is Cruelty-free and Vegan!!) I love Thirty hair. I went in for a color and cut. I have never had any salon do a test run on my hair. My hair is coarse thick and black ( I am south Asian) so it can be really hard to find a salon that does no bleach color on a south Asian hair. My stylist was Leah and she is incredible. Even though the first run didn't end up being what I intended, they offered to adjust my color and did such a wonderful job. I am definitely going to go back to them. I am one HAPPY and SATISFIED new customer! I called to try to make an appointment for a Saturday, but they were fully booked, but did get an appointment the following Tuesday with Amber. I'm a registered nurse and had an educational webinar that evening so I had to make sure my "wisdom highlights" (grays) were covered! lol The receptionist even called me back on Saturday because she had a cancellation, but I was unable to come due to another appointment. Amber is great! She spent time asking me what I want, like/dislike, etc. I showed her past photos so she can get an idea of my style and how carefree I am. I can literally have pitched black hair one day then red the next, then dark brown. Who knows, I might just surprise my hubby one day and come home with his "blonde fantasy" request lol. Amber is so sweet and easy to talk to. We talked about different topics the entire time. She definitely listened to me and my hair needs. My appointment was at 9:45am and I was out of there by 11:45am. My hubby really appreciated that because I had to take him to his Dr's appointment at 1pm. Normally I would spend hours in a chair at Bubbles. My hair is vibrant again and oh so soft. She placed low and high lights in my hair. She even took the time and used their ring light to take pictures after. I'm so glad they gave me Amber. I am definitely coming back, follow-up appointment is already booked lol. The only thing I would really wish they do is check everyone's temperature upon arrival, and provide hand sanitizer or ask each client to wash their hands before being serviced. I have alot of anxiety and I even brought my cousin due to it. Once I started talking to her I immediately felt so safe and secure with her friendly nature. My hair is back to looking subtly colored with just the right amount of dimension, and feeling really healthy from a nice cut. What an utter waste of time. After my color "consult" I am far more confused than when I walked in. The first stylist didn't have any clue what I was asking for. The second one told me that there was basically nothing to do since I had been box coloring. Asking for specifics about what little they suggested resulted in repetition of words I didn't understand. ***UPDATE*** I was able to return to Thirty Hair for a correction of the issues on my cut. First of all, the manager was very nice and efficient on getting back to me with an appointment. Secondly, as mentioned before, ALL staff I encountered were extremely nice. Just as last time, I felt welcome and it is a very friendly environment. My new stylist nicely touched up and made some quality improvements. She took her time and the corrections look much better! I may be returning for my next cut because of the nice environment and super friendly staff. After my stylist of 20 years left the state I had been searching going to stylists at different places in the area and none of them hit the mark for me. Then a friend recommended Thirty Salon- I was super hesitant but I've seen Kara and Emma a handful of times- who are wonderful and experienced colorists!! I am a customer of this salon since I moved to Maryland, and it is my favorite place to get hair services. Always goes above and beyond, and that was no exception today. I had the wonderful experience to be styled by Lonnie, and she is absolutely phenomenal. She is very focused and methodical, yet very warm and friendly. I described what I wanted in maybe two sentences, and she delivered exactly what I wanted. I am impressed with both her and the young lady that shampooed my hair, who gave an incredible head massage! I tried Thirty Hair for the first time a couple of weeks ago, to have my naturally curly, color treated hair cut, colored, and blown out. The receptionist was helpful and friendly. Lucy, the stylist to whom I was assigned, was also very pleasant. I showed her photos of both my bad and good hair days, as well as color references. While preparing my color she did ask another person for assistance. I understand; chemistry can be complicated and I'd rather someone ask for help than wing it. However, when Lucy was done with my color, my ends turned out lighter than my roots. She didn't think it was a problem but now that I have had a week to look at it, the ends are MUCH lighter, almost blonde and the rest auburn. The color itself would be pretty but it's very flat. I am used to a vibrant red. My cut is ok, but after washing out the blow out and my curls came back, I discovered a random section of hair that is much longer than the other layers. During the service Lucy spoke very unconfidently about her experience which did not give me confidence in said experience. She is as nice as can be and I know she tried. For the almost $200 I spent on the services, the result is unfortunately disappointing, and I more than likely will not return. read more

My daughter had her haircut here. Stylist was very nice but we noticed a chunk/piece of hair that was cut much shorter than the rest of my daughter's hair, at the nape. Not noticeable until it is pulled up in a ponytail, and then it is very obvious and that is tough for a teenage girl to deal with. The haircut was expensive so I am disappointed that this happened and that no one responded when I mentioned this in the survey I was asked to complete. I don't see how something like this can be fixed until it grows out so she has to live with it. We both were hoping this would be our forever salon, but need to start looking again. read more
