Prior to my appointment I took the time to answer her online questionnaire. At the start of my appointment she asked me those questions again, making it clear that she had not taken the time to read my responses. We then discussed my health concerns in detail. Later, she began acupuncture and inserted a needle into the back of my neck. It made a crunching sound going in and caused a sharp pain. she said the pain would go away. It did not. She then placed a sticker at the top of my spine and caught a strand of hair in it. That also hurt throughout the treatment. She put in another needle that was painful and caused discomfort the next day. During my appointment she received a personal call from a family member needing money. I have never had a medical appointment interrupted by a call to the medical person. She charged me $150 for the session. As a result of my uncomfortable feeling about "Dr. Laura", I went onto the NCCAOM website where she states she is registered. She is not in their directory. I asked her about it, and she said she stopped her membership because of their fees--but she still claims to be certified by them. I asked about her qualifications as a doctor, and she stated that she is allowed to call herself a doctor because she is an acupuncture physician. I doubt that it is allowed. It seems to me that using the title of doctor could only be an attempt to mislead clients. I canceled my remaining appointments.

I tried another three times to get a return call - and even sent them an email from the website. Nothing - crickets - no response. Guess that means they're always working on patients and don't need my business. Needless to say, I went elsewhere. The office help really needs to be more helpful instead of making you feel like you're nothing more than an inconvenience.

I find her well versed in both traditional western medicine and holistic treatments. She listens closely and is flexible in her approach so that her recommendations are comprehensive, and comfortable for me to implement. She spends enough time going over my lab results so that I understand the implications and recommendations. Along with her comprehensive knowledge of several areas of health treatments, I think Dr Fuentes-Valdes has exceptional doctor-patient communication skills.
