Loving Galveston during the low season

Best kept secret in Galveston. Great view on the harbor side near the yacht club. Food was amazing and friendly service. Cocktails were served in tall glasses with a variety of tropical specials. I recommend the fish tacos which were delicious. We enjoyed watching the giant boats being transferred from the dry dock warehouse where boats are stacked into the water. Very entertaining! Will definitely go back for the amazing ambiance!

This is my favorite spot on the island. Mostly locals and great place away from all the tourist. I come here to watch the cruise ships arrive and leave the Port of Galveston. Also I come here for the fish and Chips (so good and flaky and prepared when ordered). The shrimp here are so sweet and fresh. Paola was our server and she was lovely. Everyone is friendly and the staff is awesome. *Warning* If the wind is blowing on the island, best believe it's blowing even more here. So grab a drink and some food and sit back and take it all in. You're welcome and enjoy my favorite spot.

Beautiful marina views and a relaxing patio atmosphere. The Marina Bar & Grill is an excellent spot to take in views of the water and ships in the marina, have a drink, and enjoy some seafood. The shrimp tacos were delicious, and we all enjoyed the chips and queso, The kids especially loved watching a cruise ship come in to dock while we were eating. Service was friendly and attentive. A nice option away from the crowds for a relaxing, casual meal.

Came for a late lunch and we were the only ones there (it's off season). Service was very friendly. I had grilled shrimp tacos which were some of the best I've had in town. The queso was pretty good and the chips with it were nice and hot. But of a disappointment that others who ordered fish were told it wasn't thawed out yet so they had to order something else (it's a marina ... would think fish would be fresh). Overall it was good and unlike a lot of Galveston places, not overpriced.

Finally made it here. Friday at 5:15pm.. nice after work crowd. They have 2 stories to choose from, we sat upstairs. It was happy hour...beer and wine cheaper and certain shots. We had their specialty drinks, the cherry lemonade and the Seawall sail...both vodka drinks. They were ok. I started with a Scottish egg...really good! We both had the fried beer battered shrimp with waffle fries. The shrimp were large and there were like (6) so a good portion. Tasty as well. The view has a lot of boats and industrial stuff around...you can see UTMB and my employer, Texas Dept of Corrections buildings, as well as, a few other buildings near the Strand. Waitress, Amythest was amaze balls! At 7p a live band started downstairs with picnic tables to sit at. BUY LOCAL SUPPORT LOCAL

Great service, casual place to get a drink and some pub food. Great spot to watch the marina and the cruise ships. Off the beaten path so it wasn't crowded when we went. Bartender was awesome. Definitely recommend this spot.

The Food is Delicious here, we can't believe we haven't come here before. The service was Great, Lauren was our waitress and she was attentive and beautiful. She was very kind. The ambiance was great! Patio seating outside overlooking the marina while watching the sunset. It was the perfect way to end our night after working late. Thanks Lauren and Chef for a Great night out!

Great spot for drinks while watching the boats! And if you're thinking of getting the boudin egg rolls, just do it!

To start of with, this place is a total dive, in a good way. Aside from being difficult to find (Galveston confuses the heck out of Google Maps), it was a great decision. Located in the Yacht Club basin, the place is a two story building with service up and down. I recommend upstairs. The cool ocean breezes and the harbo0r view make for a very relaxing time. My wife and I both ordered the fish and chips. So fresh, so flavorful, and so good. It was just what we needed for lunch that day. I love a good dive, and this place is a great reason why. Service is quick and friendly, and the food is great and the prices are very reasonable. What a bargain!

The oysters did have a different type of flavor to it. I can't explain the flavor it just didn't taste appealing to me. I also tried the GO TEXAN GULF SHRIMP RODEO For $46. It had Texas size shrimp feast of: jumbo grilled shrimp, blackened shrimp Veracruz & rice, rispy shrimp frogs, fried shrimp on fries, & Mexican shrimp cocktail. The jumbo shrimp was my favorite out of the whole thing. It was seasoned and had a spicy kick to it. The Mexican shrimp cocktail was strong on the tomato flavor. It had a bunch of shrimp mixed up in it along with some shrimp on the glass. This dish was not for me. It was a little spicy but overall I guess the tomato was too strong for me. I think people who enjoy something like michelada or bloody Mary's might like this. The shrimp that was on the skewer tasted a little burnt from the grill so it had that char taste.

That being said, it had been some time since I've gotten some proper fish-n-chips. I had to remedy that. Especially since the BBQ fiasco the other day, I was going to go on a hunger strike, but once I made the sign, I got potato chip fingers on it and started to eat it. So, I decided to fight fire with fire, and figured I would eat myself happy again. Which I'm never mad about. Sometimes I make myself angry just so I can eat myself happy. And now, the rest of the story. I have learned that I enjoy Cod fish for my fish-n-chips. And I think also Haddock. I am not a fisher nor a fish. So it's hard for me to say. But I know Cod is one for sure. I also sometimes have baby mouth and am afraid of new things. I do know I love my fish battered and deep fried. I also know that Shark Shack had good reviews for their fish, so, that was all I needed to hear. Plus, it was a perfect little eatery with bar seating, table seating, and gifts! So you can bet your bottom dollar tomorrow I ordered the English fish-n-chips. Boy oh boy. Just like how Britain colonized all those countries back when it was the cool thing to do, these fish and chips colonized my taste buds. Respectfully. This plate came with FIVE logs of fish. FIVE! Maybe they were tubes of fish? Honestly, I don't care what shape they came in, they looked perfectly crunchy and perfectly brown and perfectly fish. The super cool extra bonus? These fish came with CRISPIES! I've only ever seen crisps with fish from Long John Silvers, whose fish is probably as far from Cod or Haddock as legally possible. I actually think one of my pieces of fish from there had shoelaces. Didn't matter. Still ate it. Respectfully. (If you aren't privileged enough to know what fish crispies are, there little batter pieces that fry or fall off the fish as they cook. Basically little crumblies. If you make a wish over a fork of them and get the forkful in your mouth without dropping any, your wish will come true). Homemade tartar sauce was good, but there was a certain flavor profile that I wasn't a fan of. It was still good to use on the fish rods, it just tasted a little too much out of the tartar sauce field for me. The meal was wrapped up nice and tight with lovely square-cut fries. Perfect doneness. Perfect Ketchup vessel. I could just stare at a pile of them all night. Mostly because I'm weird. I decided to lean more toward the 4-star side, so here we are. While in Galveston for a quick weekend getaway, we wanted to go out for dinner. Katie's was my first choice, but the wait was too long, so I pulled up Yelp to see what else was recommended. Shark Shack had great reviews, and when we arrived there was zero wait, so we went for it. The one area where I docked a star was the service. We were seated immediately but waited quite a while for our server to appear, and then even longer to get our drinks. I was so excited for a margarita, but when it arrived in a plastic cup, I was immediately disappointed. Plastic cups are for the beach and nightclubs, not a restaurant with a bar. And that's not where the awful drink experience ended -- it was so weak and just not good at all. Our server seemed so disinterested in everything: taking our order, answering questions, and when it came time to pay, we had to wait ages to see him and wave him down. The food was decent with no major complaints. It wasn't "blow your mind" amazing, but it was good. The owner -- well, I assume he was the owner -- came and spoke to us when he found out my husband was military, and he was really nice, friendly, and very supportive of the military community, offering a very generous military discount. That definitely raises the rating and is much appreciated, so thank you. Overall, the big fixes for me would be the service and the drink situation. I can't say we would rush to come back just because we love Katie's for the service, food, and drinks..
