We had a great dinner at Katie's Seafood House! My son ordered the fish and shrimp platter, and he said everything was delicious. His meal came with lobster mac & cheese, slaw, hush puppies, and french fries. It was a ton of food and definitely a generous portion. I had the Pelican sandwich, which was delicious and absolutely enormous! It had lots of flavorful toppings and was very filling. The avocado was a little overpowering for my taste, but overall the sandwich was very good. Everything was fresh, the portions were generous, and we both really enjoyed our meals. Aaron was our server and absolutely delightful! We would definitely come back!
Really nice good feel restaurant. Love the open air kitchen and the bustling of the service area. Our waitress was friendly and knowledgeable of the menu with great recommendations! The Espresso Martini delicious with a rich chocolate taste, we started with the Boudin Balls, very tasty with an unusual mixture of ingredients that make up the sauce for them. It was surprisingly good! I loved the jalapeno hush puppies, they had corn in them and were fried perfectly. The Mac n cheese was so cheesy and good and came out piping hot! My husband ordered the Market Soup which he said was creamy and very tasty, and we split the fried fish and gulf shrimp dinner.. the fish and shrimp were both very fresh tasting, and flavorful, I wasn't impressed with the coating of the fish and shrimp, but the tarter and cocktail sauce were both very good. Outdoor seating has a nice sunset view. Would recommend reservations just to be safe, we were seated right away, as people were outside waiting on the bench:)
Very cute and nice hangout spot in the water! They have both indoor and outdoor seating. We decide to sit outside to view the water. I got the crabcakes and dirty rice, and I can't honestly remember the name of the dish my boyfriend got but for the most part, everything was good and flavorful I really enjoyed the crab cakes and a little crab claws that came with it. But when it came to the service, I have to be honest they need to do a little better our server act like she had an attitude and did not really care to have a friendly demeanor at all. Once she started bringing our food out, she seemed to be a little better, but for the most part, the food was good though wish the service just could've matched the quality of the food .
I am Looking forward to trying the food. The menu looks varied and very good. It is on the water which I like. I got the oysters, virgin pina colada and soup . We had to sit at the bar because the wait was 45 minutes for restaurant. Husband got the cheese bread. It was delicious. The crab bisque soup was too spicy. I Am looking forward to my oysters. They are delicious. Kat was an amazing server. She took off my too spicy soup.
The service was good. There was a long wait but they have a waiting system that I actually appreciated. It shows where you're at in line and it texts you when it's your turn. The parking could get challenging. The view is nice especially if you get to sit outside. I tried the SMOKED OYSTERS KATIE It has a Mesquite smoked & grilled with jumbo lump crab, barbecue butter and bbq spices. It had bread on top of it too. The bread was hard and just was not for me. The oysters did have a different type of flavor to it. I can't explain the flavor it just didn't taste appealing to me. I also tried the GO TEXAN GULF SHRIMP RODEO For $46. It had Texas size shrimp feast of: jumbo grilled shrimp, blackened shrimp Veracruz & rice, rispy shrimp frogs, fried shrimp on fries, & Mexican shrimp cocktail. The jumbo shrimp was my favorite out of the whole thing. It was seasoned and had a spicy kick to it. The Mexican shrimp cocktail was strong on the tomato flavor. It had a bunch of shrimp mixed up in it along with some shrimp on the glass. This dish was not for me. It was a little spicy but overall I guess the tomato was too strong for me. I think people who enjoy something like michelada or bloody Mary's might like this. The shrimp that was on the skewer tasted a little burnt from the grill so it had that char taste.
Great waitress Sierra! Took very good care of us. I only gave 4 stars because the Caribbean salad that I had was missing quinoa. She went an asked the cooks and they told her because it is in the dressing. I have eaten a lot of quinoa and it was not in the salad nor in the dressing. I thought it was strange that he or she would say it was in the dressing. But love that it is from the boat to the table.
Second time to visit. The wait was 30-40 minutes, which wasn't too bad. I do wish there were more shaded areas or fans near the front entrance while waiting. We chose the first available seating option and were seated outside on the deck, which had plenty of shade, fans, and a great view of the bay. Our server was quite busy since it was Juneteenth, but she did a great job. The food was excellent! The Tilefish was fantastic. That's the fish used in the Texican, and I had never heard of it before. One unique thing about this restaurant is that the seafood comes fresh off their boats and is sold in the fish market next door. After we ate, our receipt gave us a discount at the fish market, so we stopped by. I asked to see a Tilefish, and one of the employees explained how deep they fish and how far they travel to catch them. I really appreciated learning more about that particular fish. We will definitely be back soon!
Hands down the best seafood my husband and I have ever had. Prior to our trip to Galveston, we watched some videos about where to visit and had seen this place on "The Texas Bucket List." In the video, they explained how all of the seafood in the restaurant is caught throughout the day and is as fresh as it gets. It was 100% true! The seafood was incredibly fresh, delicious, and full of flavor. There are also a lot of really unique and customizable options. The service was very friendly. For such fresh seafood, the price point was actually reasonable too. There's nice dining both outside and inside overlooking the water, and the outside area had fans. I'd say if you're in Galveston this is a must visit even if you have to squeeze it in. You won't regret it and will be dreaming about your food after you leave!
Super fresh and flavorful seafood. Nice coastal, boat house type of decor. Service is very friendly, but not fast. A little pricey, but I would still recommend it for families and cruise port tourist. However, It may be a little too loud and bright for a "date night" experience.
So far came into the establishment, was seated at the bar. There were 4 to 5 staff members behind the bar and not one assisted me. It was approximately 15 minutes or so. Finally the bartender came over and took my order. As far as the ambiance, the place was decorated nicely and looks newly renovated. At the bar there is a window and you can look out into the bay and see the fishing boats. The male bartender got my oder wrong , no attention to detail, especially when I pointed what I wanted. Service during this time is horrible. I ordered the shrimp , fish and grits. The food presentation was great and the food was excellent. The helping size was enough to feed two people. The shrimp were well cooked and the fish was flaky. The food definitely made up for the bad service experience. Next time I will seat at a table.
This was our second time enjoying Katie's seafood house and the experience was amazing just like the time before. We sat outside and enjoyed the view over the water. To start off we had amazing Texas Gulf boiled, which came out perfect. Then following that I had the Chefs Special and enjoyed the red snapper with fried asparagus and broiled shrimp. It was all topped with crab meat and served with mashed potato's. Our server Alex was just amazing and quickly helped us the entire time with great service and his recommendations came in excellent. Whenever I'm in Galveston I'll be sure to come back every time.
Our server was amazing, the restaurant is in a pier house above the water next to the shrimp boats. The outdoor seating was perfect on a cloudy, cool (for Texas), breezy day. Hubby and I had a bowl of their market seafood chowder that was far too small (I mean it was only a cup, but it was insanely delicious)! Chunky veggies and plenty of seafood, moist fish. The flavor was perfect. We also got their mosquito shrimp cold, so so fresh off the boat the morning, and the Bam Bam coconut shrimp on top of fried rice - which was an appetizer. Everything was amazing, we'll come back for the chowder alone! They also had a local blonde - blue moon type beer that was really good, and I had the sandy bottom martini that was delightful. The cost was reasonable for the samplings we tried. I can't wait to go back and try more.
We ate outside, it's mid-July, so it's quite warm, but there were plenty of fans. Our service was exceptional, Paula B was very patient and answered about a dozen questions (was our first time here; yes we were a bit annoying). We all ended up ordering what she suggested based on what we enjoy and every single entree was delicious. We started with the garlic cheese bread, which was so good. Our table ordered the cheeseburger, popcorn shrimp, lemon piccata grouper, shrimp and crab boil, and crab-stuffed shrimp. All five of us finished our food. I ordered the grouper which came with angel hair pasta and it was the best grouper I've ever had. Highly recommend!!!

Someone recommended Katie's Seafood House to me. It was good. Not great. Maybe I just didn't know what to expect. But from how everyone raved about it I was expecting more. The food was good. Love going here with friends and family during our weekend trips here! The snapper wings are my favorite (they're basically just deep fried bone-in fish). Some dishes feel like they lack a little flavor/depth. Overall still love Katie's. It's a cute place to celebrate with loved ones! Servers are always friendly. read more

We were lucky to get in at the last minute. It was very loud. One of the loudest restaurants Ive been in. The food was good but was too expensive for fresh catch. The desserts were fabulous. The Lemoncello cake was delicious and was given to us as we had a birthday being celebrated that day. The Key Line Cheesecake was a bit borning. As it didn't have the pucker ability the pie gives. There was a peach desert that didn't say peach cobbler but after ordering it was determined to be just that! Very good! Entrees were ok but nothing exceptional: fried oysters, fried shrimp, etc. the Squash soup was very good according to my grands! Service was slow but server was trying. read more
Katie's came highly recommended. It was our 1st food stop on the island and the food lived up to the reputation. We really enjoyed our food and sweet teas. We ordered the special of the day that had fried asparagus ( that's a first), the Galveston grilled oysters and a mixed shrimp/oyster poboy with fries. The food was hot and fresh. Then portions were nice sized and we got to enjoy the unique flavors of each dish. We decided to eat outside on the patio over looking the water. Very vibrant, relaxed, and family oriented environment. Water and dock is pretty cool natural feature. There is a full bar and the menu is pretty extensive. Places were reasonably for a seafood spot. Waiter was super sweet and attentive. Overall good experience. read more
Overall nice folks here and to be fair they were under the gun all night long, just buried with a crazy amount of people as downtown happened to be packed this night. The fish comes fresh here, like literally right off the boat so perhaps it might be best to order fresh next time instead of the fried platters we have. It's never fun to be real about a place, but I can't see us coming back here. The people were super nice and I heard the hostesses up front handling a lot of backlash with how busy it was with a lot of patience and class vs some of the customers. We ordered the basic oyster plate which came out lickety split and were great. It comes with traditional sauces in addition to a great oil-based salsa. One of those things you wouldn't expect to be paired but works like magic complementing all the other sauces without overwhelming your taste buds. However the good times pretty much stopped there. Our Bayou platter took nearly 45 mins to come out and it wasn't just us as the table next to us ordered the same thing and had the same wait as they came out right behind each other. On the bright side it did give us opportunity to watch some great NCAA games as we were seated at the bar table seating. one of the tricks is if you can catch this area during a transition you can get orders in without having to wait in the hour long line up front. Even people who had open table reservations were 15-20 minutes behind according to conversations I picked up at the front of house. It didn't help our experience that they didn't put any shrimp in there, nor rice in the red beans and rice, and the plate was loaded with fried okra which is not one of my wife's favorites. Not such a big deal but add them all together and it was going downhill fast. Because my parents were entertaining our teenagers whilst we had date night we ordered them one (their choice after we sent them a menu photo) and that had us waiting for another 1/2-hour. You know how it goes. At this point the wait staff doesn't want to hear anything else being wrong, the manager comes over to assure is everything is good, but you sort of get the feeling that they just want you to leave even through they are smiling on the outside. Despite my wife's desire to check the to go order when the manager personally brought it over, I just thought to myself surely they can't mess up again....but they did. Instead of tartar sauce they gave my parents cole slaw.....luckily we had ingredients for my mother to make some real quick after we got home. Obviously gonna give some understanding as it was super busy and at the end of the evening and I'm sure they're all wanting to finish and go home....but nobody wants to feel bad because the restaurant messed up our orders twice....but somehow they made us feel like we were nitpicking at them for trying to get our meals correctly and as described on the menu. They made a big deal about bringing us the shrimp they forgot initially with an obviously too large amount of rice. $137 tab and I left $165 cash to cover it all plus tip for appreciation of their effort. It's not their fault the kitchen messed up, but I doubt my wife will want to return. Oysters were fine but after that the flavor and level of food quality was just not there and that was the opinion of my wife, me, mother and father. read more

Connor greeted us at the host stand more than the host did and we realized he was our waiter so that was awesome! He was on top of it from the moment we walked in and the moment we checked out. He recommended the short braided rib which I forgot to take a picture but the food was great! Def love the scenery of the boats and birds! read more

Stopped in for lunch and was impressed across the board. We had the fried fish, shrimp, crab mac and cheese, and chowder, and everything was excellent. The seafood tasted incredibly fresh, the chowder was rich and flavorful, and the crab mac and cheese was a standout. The service was top-notch friendly, attentive, and welcoming without being overbearing. The outdoor seating right on the water made the experience even better. Great food, great atmosphere, and fresh seafood done right. We'll definitely be back. read more

Great Place and Good Food My wife and I enjoyed dinner at Katie's Seafood House the evening before a cruise, and everything was great. When we arrived, there was about a 30-minute wait for a table in the main dining room, so we just grabbed the first available table in the bar area. Th server immediately noticed our presence, and came over, introduced herself and took our drink order. We shared the Crab Stuffed Shrimp for $34.00 which included 4 jumbo shrimps stuffed with crabmeat Rockefeller stuffing of spinach and baked in a white wine mushroom butter sauce served with garlic mashed potatoes. We also shared the Fried Texas Gulf Shrimp Dinner for $17.00 which included 8 jumbo shrimps, and served with fries, cole slaw, and jalapeno hush puppies. Both dishes were very good and enough for sharing. Everything was fresh, cooked to order, had good seasoning and flavor, and tasted very good. I wish the cole slaw portion was larger than a small 20 oz souffle cup and there were more than two hush puppies. Considering the number of guests in the crowed restaurant, the service was fast and friendly. After ordering, our food was served hot and fresh within 20 minutes of ordering. I almost don't want to review I want to keep them to myself. Let's begin with Kelly, who was an absolute star, she was more than a server she felt like a friend. Now the food, OMG the food... mouthwatering bit to bite, nothing was regretted if we weren't over stuffed we would have had more lol We ordered the garlic cheese bread with the shrimp add on, bows of chowder and gumbo and shared the fishnet sampler. I can tell you we were both happy and sad because they aren't close to us but if in town, waiting to board or are staying overnight and want some LEGIT FRESH SEAFOOD this is THE PLACE! The ambiance is to its theme of fresh catch to table. Parking right in front, ramp if you can't do stairs, in and outside seating, portions huge but yay for us, service from Kelly 10 out of 5 stars and a must you can not leave Galveston and not come here! read more
We arrived with a reservation on Valentine's Day during Mardi Gras and the whole area around the restaurant was chaos. We had to pay an exorbitant rate to park nearby as there were no available free spaces. We waited about 15 minutes past our reservation time for our table. Once seated, the experience was good. Our waitress was attentive, helpful, and knowledgeable. The building feels newer and is bright and the high ceilings make it airy. Drinks and apps came quickly. The oysters were good but could have been colder. The entrees were AMAZING. My crab cakes were loaded with sweet, fresh crabmeat. Minimal filler and no annoying shell. My husband's fish was cooked perfectly, fresh and flavorful. The kids meals were generously sized and tasty as well. The restaurant was packed but the kitchen seemed to keep up. It isn't cheap, but the prices are fair for the quality and portions. Definitely worth a return visit. read more
We were in Galveston the night before our cruise was set to sail on my wife's birthday cruise. I had searched Yelp to find a restaurant that had a patio with a wonderful view of the bay. Katie's Seafood House fit the bill perfectly. I am glad I had made reservations prior to our arrival because the restaurant was slammed on a Saturday night. With our reservation we had a very short wait before our outdoor table was available. What a great view of the bay! Our server Alyssa W. was wonderful, personable and so attentive. I mentioned we were celebrating my wife's birthday week. She congratulated her and said she will get a free dessert of her choice free! YEA, we like free. We looked over the specialty drink menu. My wife decided on the Strawberry Banana Breeze, and I opted for the Strawberry Lemonade. For dinner, my wife opted for the Cobb Salad, and I decided on the Cajun Po'boy Fish Sandwich with fries. Service time was appropriate for our visit. There was no rushing through dinner to free up needed tables. Our signature cocktails were delicious. After a short wait, one of the kitchen expeditors delivered our entrees to our table. Katie's platters are massive, they're almost overwhelming. I had enough fries on my platter to share with all on the patio. Both of our entrees were wonderful. My wife loved her Cobb Salad, and my Po'boy was so delicious. The fish was fried to perfection. We were both stuffed but couldn't turn down a free dessert. My wife decided on the Lemon Cake with a shot of Limoncello to pour over the cake and let it soak in. Oh my, the cake was so lemony and the Limoncello pour over it to soak in intensified the flavor. I was so delicious. What a perfect way to start my wife's birthday week celebration. Next time we're in Galveston, we'll definitely make a point to plan a stop at Katie's to enjoy the freshest seafood on the waterfront. read more
It's truly the place to go for fresh "boat to table" seafood. We originally thought about going to Landry's since it was next to our hotel. Katie's came up in multiple articles online about their seafood market & restaurant on the pier. I was sold when seeing all the fishing boats in back of the restaurant. The area is called Mosquito Fleet for the shrimp boats that look like mosquitoes. Paula was our server for lunch. She gave us the history of this family-owned business. She answered all of our questions like a pro. The fried fish on that day was Golden TileFish. I'd never had it before. It was actually quite delicious. We also had questions about the chowder. I was looking for a creamy chowder. The Seafood Market Chowder was highly recommended. If you're into more of a tomato-based chowder, then go for the Texas Crab & Corn Chowder. Our cup of chowder was served with a crispy crostini that's easy to break up as a topping. This was my absolute favorite dish of the entire meal. It was a hearty chowder filled with just about every type of seafood. I totally appreciated the big chunks of blue crabmeat in the center of it all. I'd get a bowl of it if there ever is a next time. The fried fish platters had mixed reviews. It was really about the seasoned cornmeal batter. It's really good with the thick fish filets and the jumbo shrimp. I could still taste the seafood which was fresh & delicious. Especially that jumbo shrimp. With that said, the oysters got lost in the batter. I tasted the oyster flavors, but the batter & seasoning was just too heavy for it in my opinion. A lighter batter would be more appreciated. The jalapeño hush puppies were excellent. We both loved them. The fries were overseasoned and salty. Again, it's just my opinion. Many people like it that way. All in all, it was a very good experience. It's a very comfortable atmosphere. We chose to be seated inside, and it was a great decision for us. The outdoor seating is very popular because of the view. It's a nice one! I'd return again for the chowder & hush puppies, but would probably go for grilled seafood versus fried. There are so many wonderful items on the menu. I wanted to try their famous banana pudding. A great place! My husband had the shrimp rodeo platter and wow! Shrimp every way, and a lot of it. The shrimp cocktail was amazing! I had the catch of the day and shrimp platter. Phenomenal service from our waitress, Kristin. She was very helpful, polite, and attentive. Kristen's knowledge of the menu and the description behind the fresh catch of the day added a personal touch to our meal. The ambiance of the restaurant was immediately inviting with its open and spacious dining area. The commitment to fresh seafood was evident in every dish we ordered. We ordered: Garlic Butter Crab Fingers - This is a fantastic starter for everyone to share. The crab fingers were bathed in melted garlic butter which was delicious. The dish came with three slices of bread but I wish they had been toasted or grilled. That would have made the dish even better 4/5. Crab Cake - The exterior's light crispness gave way to the moist and tender crabmeat inside which took center stage without any distracting fillers. The addition of lightly battered crab fingers was a nice touch! A solid 5/5! Fresh Catch of the day - A perfectly cooked red snapper dish with coconut rice. The fish was flaky in texture and the delicate seasoning allowed the natural flavors of the fish to shine through 5/5. Yellow Edge Grouper French with the Fisherman's Fricassee cook style - The fish was moist and flaky, while the accompanying mashed potatoes were fluffy and rich. I love that it had bits of skin to show it's freshness 5/5. Nojito mocktail - While refreshing, it was a tad too sweet for my taste 3/5. I visited Katie's Seafood House after finding it on Find Me Gluten Free app, as I have Celiac disease. Restaurant looks nice and apparently, they catch all their own seafood every morning. They have a little menu for gluten-free items as well as a menu for pork-free items. My husband ordered the: - Fried green tomatoes with crab butter. $15 - Admiral's Shaved Prime Rib po'boy. $26 I ordered the: - Gluten-free red beans and rice. $11 - Jumbo Texas Gulf Grilled Shrimp, gluten-free $27. I was so jealous of my husband's food because it was a huge portion and it looked and smelled incredible. I was pretty disappointed with my food. The plating didn't look nice, the shrimp was forgettable and the gluten-free side was just a side of steamed vegetables. The red beans and rice was tasteless and not hot enough so I had to reheat my leftovers in the microwave of our hotel room when we went back. This meal reminded me of why I hate having this autoimmune disease. My husband was stuffed after dinner and I was still hungry and disappointed with my meal. +Customer service was excellent. Katy was wonderful. +The yellow edge grouper (French Fisherman's Fricassee) was cooked very well. The herb/wine butter sauce and golden onions were a bit overpowering, but the lightly pan-fried crispy fish was legit. +The golden tile fish (Galveston Bake) was executed near perfection. +The kids enjoyed the chili and butter noodles. -The grilled shrimps were overcooked and dry. -The chargrilled oysters had way too much parmesan cheese. March 2025 visit This restaurant is located next to the Galveston Channel, Ocean Star Offshore Drilling Rig and Museum, and the cruise terminal. Free parking for the restaurant. Pay attention to parking lot signs at the cruise terminal next door. There is a tall flight of stairs leading to the entrance of the large room with TVs at the bar. Instead of waiting for a table during the busy lunch crowd, opted to sit at the bar instead. Friendly busy staff serving entrees.....made for a short wait for my 3 delicious fresh fish tacos. I love the concept of Katie's Seafood, but honestly, everything is overpriced. The food was ok, the food subpar, the seafood nachos were ok? Then we tried the Galveston grill oysters, we could not taste the oyster, just not good at all. Our service was great and the water view was nice. read more
Food 10/10. Service 10/10 Listen, I just can't get enough. Quality is what I truly look for and expect when eating out. Nothing is perfect, right? Well, I can't find anything that I'd warn you about.Suggestion, make a reservation when necessary so you don't have to wait up to 30-45 minutes for a table. Also, don't sit outside if you're sensitive to smell. Of course the water smells like the ocean. I prefer sitting outside when possible.
