First time in Galveston for a friend's wedding and it also happened to be our wedding anniversary as well. We wanted to go out and celebrate before meeting everyone for the wedding activities. Searched Yelp for steakhouses and this one popped up and had many great reviews. Decided to give them a try and we're glad that we did. The food, service and ambiance were superb. We ordered the Texas bone-in ribeye and paired it with the lobster risotto, which was divine! The sushi was also yummy. Would come back here again. read more

Reservations are a must, it is due to the small amount of tables and intimate seating. We were seated promptly at our reservation time. Our waiter Richard was well versed on the specials and helped us make great choices. We went with the lump crab avocado and mango tower for appetizer, beef Wellington and red snapper for entrees, sides were roasted brussel sprouts and lump crab risotto, and the maple butter cake for dessert. Service was fantastic, all the flavors of the dishes were delicious and everything can be shared due to the portion sizes. Price range for dinner without cocktails was $275 for 2 people. read more

I would actually say they are a good value since I've been too more expensive places and the service and steak were not even comparable. DEFINITELY get a reservation some people got turned away so if you want to (and you do - just do a reservation). Atmosphere is what you'd expect from a steakhouse in the San Luis. Wear some stretchy pants and plan maybe a walk at least because you are going to want to eat it all. I'd recommend the 45 dry aged ribeye its definitely worth the price. As well as the potatoes au gratin (sooo good), of course some good wine and finish that off with Strawberry TALL cake (which I couldn't finish at dinner (it was gobbled up later). Everyone there the staff and even the other patrons were super friendly. Great for special occasions or even just spending some quality time with loved ones. Highly recommend going. read more

Went with my sister for dinner and had the lobster mac and cheese, wedge salad, and roasted chicken. We ate at the bar and our overall experience was great. The mac and cheese and chicken were amazing. The wedge salad was overdressed. We also had jalapeño cornbread with our meal and it was delicious. We get it, no potatoes. Its crowded. Its cold inside. This waiter took my beer away when I was still working on it. They try to give you good service. The tables are too small. You can't fit 2 forks, bread plate, glassware, and menu on the table. It is not a high end steak house of a Highrise on 23rd floor in Dallas. Its a small restaurant, crowded little tables. February 14th heart day, a Monday evening "GALentine's" FYI---please note for those who don't know Because they never mentioned (upon initial RSVP) nor the 3x after I called to update it, that on ANY HOLIDAY they ONLY have a (as the French say) prix frix aka table d'hôte menu (set menu) for that day/evening. Ok, so on that I continue... John, the maitre d (let me say first) was professional and friendly, love him. When we realized we only had the $150 four course meal to choose from, it was surprising. Soo, after a few minutes of back and forth with explanations from John and choices between myself and my friend, we were going to have a glass of wine here (extensive list) but, go to their other restaurant in hotel, the Grotto to eat. After we ordered the wine, John's final answer: we could order what we wanted off the 4 course menu. Cool. This restaurant is fine dining, so it had that wood interior, conservative look like most (dim lighting, candles, small, intimate and quiet) Richard (waiter) was nice but, after his first introduction, that's the most he spoke the rest of the night; just not a conversationalist, zip...nada. We got 2 courses each (see menu) prime filet with lobster $120 lobster bisque $17 salad $17 prime ribeye $95 resiling chateau Michelle merlot 14 hands served with fresh bread. It was ALL delicious. Cooked as ordered. Hindsight: for me, it would have been cheaper to have gotten 4 course. Lesson learned! Will try the Grotto next, looked like it had a good vibe read more

Classic Escargot: 3/5 - The escargot was bland. I couldn't taste the garlic. Ribeye: 3/5 - The ribeye was okay, could use more flavor, particularly salt. Flounder: 4/5 Sautéed Wild Mushrooms and Onions: 4/5 Service: 3/5 - Service simply was not good. My wife & I often were waiting around for longer than what's typical at different parts of the meal. The server was nice, but overly casual & not attentive. I had to remind the server to get my wine after already starting my entree. My wife & I couldn't wait to leave at this point with the underwhelming service & poor vibe, but had to wait a while for the check after asking for it. The couple at the table next to ours didn't have much luck either. The woman asked the server whether her food would come anytime soon. After hearing the answer she asked to have her entree taken to go while her husband was eating his. Ambiance: 3/5 - My wife & I had a very difficult time hearing each other. We constantly had to ask each other to repeat ourselves. The seating was tight at some points. People walking by had to squeeze between my seat & the one behind me, often bumping into me. read more

The restaurant was crowded on a Saturday night but our waiter zipped around and was attentive. The food was wonderful, especially the crab cheesecake appetizer. The lighting was dim and the feel was elegant but it certainly wasn't quiet. There were a number of couples celebrating anniversaries and it would be a great date location. read more

Sat at the bar to have dinner. Service really slow. Finally got a couple of drinks and ordered a couple of appetizers. Fried artichokes were delicious and served hot. The bruschetta however could not even be cut with a knife. Ordered a 12 ounce filet which was cooked to perfection. However the side dishes were cold. The food is incredible and the service is superb. You never have to ask for anything. The waiters are so kind, helpful and solicitous that your water never gets below 3/4 full. But the food. The food is in a league of its own. The best food we've had anywhere in recent memory. My husband got oysters and steak. I got shrimp cocktail and stuffed shrimp. The sides are for sharing and incredible as well. We had risotto and scalloped potatoes. Oh and a wedge salad. We had tons to take home. Don't forget dessert. Crème Brûlée is our go to. But this time was my birthday and they brought me a beautiful slice of cake that was apparently made in heaven. Highly recommend! read more

We celebrated our anniversary with dinner at this restaurant while staying at the San Luis. Our meal was delicious and the service was exceptional. The staff even recognized our anniversary by presenting us with a card and a decorated plate with a beautiful piece of cheesecake and a lighted candle so we could make a wish for more years together...before blowing out the flame. Amazing service and food. We made a reservation a few days before and were seated quickly despite their evening rush. We had the New York Strip steaks, both prepared perfectly. For the table, Haricots Verts and braised short-rib mac and cheese. The crème brûlée was a fabulous end to our evening. My only complaint is that at the time, there was a large party so the establishment was loud. The tables were so close together because of the large party we had to shuffle sideways to get to our table. There was also live music (no complaints, it was great!) Overall, I would love to come back another evening when it might be a little less crowded. Our favorite steakhouse thus far has been Steak 48 in Houston, but The Steakhouse at The San Luis Resort is a close second! read more

What a memorable evening! My DH and I dined here for the first time for his birthday. You really are treated like royalty! Carlos was our waiter and he was so sweet, very knowledgeable of the menu and just an all around fabulous waiter! The bus crew was fabulous always filling our water glasses and tending to the table when needed but not overcrowding us. The food was phenomenal! My husband said it was the best ribeye he had ever eaten in his life! That is huge compliment since he has had them all! My chilean sea bass was cooked perfectly. Our side dishes was the best lobster and crab risotto I have ever had, wonderfully seasoned broccolini and short rib mac and cheese. I was visiting Galveston for its wine festival and made reservations in advance to dine here. Being that it was a Saturday night, all the tables were taken and the room was buzzing. I already knew that the food was top notch--steaks that cut like butter and a tasty assortment of sides. I had come to see Jon Paul who as Director of Food Operations kept the dining room running smoothly. I knew him from his early days at Brennan's and Tony's, both in Houston. I am not usually a fan of hotel restaurants. They are usually overpriced and underperform. We had a huge party of 17 people from all over the country arriving throughout the meal. The restaurant and wait staff handled all issues with courtesy and ease. The waiter knew his menu and "non-menu" items. He was always ready with the next course and kept the meal flowing. The crab cake appetizer was absolutely amazing. Lots of lump crab and expertly seasoned. Not too much breading, and a fine crust. We had one person who just kept ordering another crab cake without ever getting to the entree. The jalapeño corn muffins in the bread basket were also a delicious and delightful surprise. No privacy whatsoever. The crab cake appetizer was delicious. The filets were tasty and tender. The potatoes augratin were tasteless with what seemed like cheap cheese on top. Main reason for the 3 stars...husband ordered the surf and terf ($125) with the crab legs. Waiter asked if he would like the crabmeat shelled and said yes. When the meal was delivered the crab was cold and only about 2-3 ounces. It was a $67 up charge to the regular filet. If you are looking for steakhouse you can do better than this place. read more

We had no problem with seating at the bar. The ribeye steaks were the best we've ever had, we'd give 5 stars for the great dinner, Our only issue with this restaurant was the female bartender. When asking for our bill, we were only given the total for us to sign and tip on, no itemized bill (and the total was very high) we asked another bartender and he gave us the itemized bill. Only to find out our tab had been padded, drinks were on there that were never given to us. All I would say for this restaurant is make sure you ask for your itemized bill and look over it to be sure it is correct. read more

Our family visited the steakhouse at the San Luis for my 50th birthday last evening. The manager, Jon Paul, greeted us warmly and seated us at our table right away. Our server, Jen, was very attentive throughout the evening. She explained the specials and answered any menu questions that we had. The food, Amazing!!! Each of my family members ordered something different. Which gave us a great sample of their menu. We started with the escargot- it was buttery and the pesto was amazing, the shrimp and crab cheesecake- was creamy and stuffed with shrimp and crab, and a caesar salad. For the entrees, we had wagyu beef Wellington with the delicious sauce, wagyu ribeye steak, sea bass with shrimp and crab, And grilled salmon. It was all delicious! For dessert, I received a wonderful cheesecake with happy birthday written on the plate and a candle. My family shared the coconut cream pie, pineapple upside down cake, and chocolate cake. Went for my birthday tonight. The food was amazing. I had the steak and crab legs and lobster bisque. My husband had a filet. Well worth the prices and the servers were extremely attentive and on the ball. The restaurant itself is quaint and small and dark. We had to use the cell phone flashlight to read the check and menu. If I had to make any critique it's that the restaurant is too small for the number of tables they have. You're listening to the tables around yours entire conversation. We were at a table in the middle and not along the walls so lesson learned. Make a reservation asked for a table along the wall. read more
