The "renovation" of Mother's Beach Playground was very disappointing. Instead of actually improving the playground, the swings were simply removed and never replaced. If the swings were considered unsafe, why were they removed instead of repaired or replaced with new ones? At the same time, there are still loose or missing bolts on some play features and open gaps on the elevated structures where a child could potentially fall. If safety is truly the priority, why were those issues left unaddressed? Now the playground offers much less for young children. Kids can't spend the whole time using only the slides. The swings were one of the best parts of this playground, and many local families came here specifically because of them. Please explain why the swings were removed and consider bringing them back. This playground was never truly renovated--it feels like the only major change was taking the swings away. read more

Been coming here since I was a kid. Marina Beach is so underrated. More and more people need to visit this beach at least once in their lifetime. I love the vibe and water here. When you live on the East Side of Los Angeles, you tend to forget that you are lucky enough to live by the majestic Pacific Ocean. Or, even if you remember, the traffic and gas prices deter you from driving alllllll the way over the hill and to the West Side (you might as well be going to Egypt). Sometimes, one has to throw caution to the wind and visit the ocean. It's what makes LA, well, LA! With so many coastal nooks to choose from, how does Marina del Rey Beach stack up? Marina del Rey Beach is not necessarily the beach to choose if seeking beach-front restaurants, a boardwalk, or flora and fauna to give the perfect landscape to your wedding photos (although it is close enough to Venice Beach and Santa Monica that a light drive will reap those results). Marina del Rey has more of a quiet, Zen, private-beach feel and is more angled toward peaceful or romantic stolen moments. In fact, with the abundance of beach houses and apartments, it can feel like you are on private property. The beach has a walkway, rocky dips, and small observation decks which leads to the actual sandy beach. The sand is more white than not and luckily, not filled with trash or other discarded goods. Sadly, it also lacks shells for the collecting habits of the kiddos. A life guard stand keeps everything in line while a volleyball net is available for those beach gatherings emphasizing a healthy workout. Pelicans fly overhead, seagulls try to steal any food they may find, and the occasional seal can be seen amongst yachts, sail boats, and parasailors. The best part of Marina del Rey beach is the romantic air. It is less crowded than other beaches; making it the perfect spot for a sunset date. The sunsets here are absolutely incredible. The colors are vibrant, the angles are perfectly photogenic, and the breeze is divine. Basically, you feel like you are a small silhouette in a postcard. It is unmatched by many of the other beaches in the LA area. The main complaint? Parking. Parking is beyond a hassle as there only seems to be a small strip for the beach while most of the neighborhoods are either permit-only, restricted to one side, or filled with residents who seem to follow a 80/1 car-to-person ratio. Luckily, my boyfriend is the King of Parking and can find a spot ANYWHERE in this crazy town (and for free!). Despite the lack of parking, it is worth the time to drive around a little bit to experience this beach. Whether you live in the Black Hole of the Valley or the yuppie sections of the West Side; Marina del Rey Beach is a prime and beautiful spot to be reminded of the coastal beauty of California. This is my old hood... love this beach... quiet and less crowded comparing to Venice and santa monica. We've seen so many wide life animals, dolphins, sharks, sea lions, etc. On the nice weekends, it can be packed and hard to find parkings. You can park on Via Marina and Bora Bora way which has plenty parkings and only 5 min walk to the beach. There are many restaurants around the Washington pier. Our favorite is C&O... There is Star bucks and Cold stone ice cream... The beach park is dog friendly as long as you keep your dog on leash and clean after it... We've made many dog friends when we lived there... read more

I wish we knew that this beach have high elevated levels of bacteria and not recommended to swim. There is even warning sign at lifeguard tower. We are so disappointed that we couldn't let our toddler to get in the water and just let him playing sands.. despite of the fact, I see many parents let the kids to go in dirty water and it was shocking to me. There is clearly dirty water regardless the warning sign. I learn my lesson and I will definitely look up next time where we go to the beach is clean and safe. read more

I love this little private beach. It's been kept very clean and modern. Me and my friend Alberto always rent out the kayaks and hit the channel for an hour. Every once in a while I could be a bit crowded here but overall it's not too bad. I do wish the beach had more restaurants to offer near by. But it's not that bad. There is A restaurant at the hotel. And killer shrimp (that I LOVE) right next door... so definitely come on down to this beach. I'm sure you'll enjoy it. read more

- Locale Destination - I think the center of beach is PCH and Washington Blvd in Marina Del Rey. Right by the beach along Washington Blvd. Great to chill, walk, swim, and run. Not for surf since there's no good wave. You can walk/run to Venice beach so quickly, but this beach is a lot quieter than other beaches around here - almost "serene" - great clean beach with little people. It's not energetic like Venice beach, yet it is a great representative of "California" beach. Parking: Very limited meter parking right in front of the beach on Washington Blvd. It's hard to park around here. Go toward the residential area for a free parking spot - park on or around the Pacific Ave! It's harder to find a spot on weekends. Surf: No Bike lane: No Beach volley coats: a few Bathroom: NO!! Showers: No Scuba: No Sea creatures: Dolphins sometimes. Eateries on beach: No. Washington Blvd: It looks very touristy (shops, bars and restaurants), yet a few good spots for food that the locals enjoy. - Conqueror's Deduction - I like this beach a lot. Very quiet, serene and beautiful California beach: great scenery - beach, sand, great sunset, yachts, planes etc. I can't help taking pictures every time I come here. This beach is beautiful and perfect for kids of all ages. I have two toddlers and between the awesome playground, the sand, and calm waters, they were more than happy. There is paddle boarding for the older kids, too. The bad: the bathrooms are beyond disgusting. I don't expect much from a beach or park bathroom but these are probably some of the worst bathrooms I've ever seen or smelled. I am more than willing to buy a cheesecake from the nearby Cheesecake Factory just to use their restrooms. Picnic tables: I planned on having my daughter's birthday here and came at 8:30 on a Saturday to claim a few tables and they were all taken. I was crushed. Some people claim upwards of 7 tables each, and some were even trying to sell us one of their' s for $50!! It ended up being ok because we set up tables and a few pop up tents at the palm trees and it was perfect. We were so thankful at the end of the day that we didn't get a table because there was a lot of drinking and smoking happening there. Overall, I really like this beach. Just bring a lot of antibacterial wipes for the bathroom!! read more

What can I say, this beach is beautiful. Even better, it is within walking distance from my friend's so no need to search for dreaded beach parking. Good luck. The day we came, the water was perfection. We body surfed for hours. The waves weren't too big, not too little but just right. The best thing? It's not a rocky bottom beach like so many in Los Angeles. There are lifeguards on duty, bathrooms near the pier and great bar hopping and grub down Washington. A great beach to stop for lunch if you have been beach cruising from Venice/Santa Monica and far less crowded than the other nearby beaches. I may just become a regular. read more

Don't go the Mother's beach ever. I have been there, more than once, and it is in a very sad state. The water has no waves which does draw people with kids, that is what drew me there. I brought my grandson there and never will again. The water is dirty; we came out oily. It is part of the man made Marina and all the boat oil and gas sits on the water and makes its way to this little "beach." Each time I have gone it has gotten worse. My last visit in March will be my last visit forever. read more

I've been here a couple of times for SUP, water yoga, and kayaking. I like that the waters are calm and it is not too crowded. I've seen some seals here too. I was here over the weekend. The day we went had a nice breeze and the sun was out but not too hot. We even walked around the marina to wait for happy hour to start so it was a great way to enjoy the afternoon. You can rent all sorts of water activity gear here. There is a kids playground and a row of about 30 picnic/bbq tables. There is a public restroom tho it is gross. I've gotten a parking ticket here once so be careful cause they do check and patrol. read more

Today, I took a stroll by the Marina Del Rey beach! It was overcast, but still beautiful! I like to take strolls in the sand and on the little pier! I saw a sea lion by the rocks for the first time here today and it was pretty exciting (I'd never seen one at this beach before!). I would say it's pretty quiet here (most people walk, jog, bike, or fish in the area). Note: There were several signs along the beach warning that dogs shouldn't be in the sand or the waters. For the record: Watch out for litter in the sand. read more

Wonderful beach. Sometimes the beaches in Venice and Santa Monica are too crowded. I come here to get away from the crowds and have some relaxing beach time. This beach is soo clean and usually empty except for the random commercial or music video filming. If you're a yogi I recommend coming here for meditation. Week days are the best time to come. Ill back. Also a great place to take "out of towners" for a nice beach picnic. Two thumbs up. read more

A clean beach with a huge crowd on the weekends. As a kid this represented a quiet place, where people would go to escape the neighboring community of Venice Beach. Marina Del Rey home to Fishermen's Village and also home to boat docking . Now it's developed and commercialized. In a good way. There's my favorite restaurant El Torito and Tony P's. Hmm...I don't know, I feel like this may be an unfair rating because I was with my three beautiful God Children and no matter where I'm at, I'm always happy with them...that said, the beach is beautiful, as anybody familiar with Marina Del Rey knows, and it's clean for the most part. Tons of old white people running all of 2mph prepping for that big marathon in the sky, and beautiful women inappropriately tanning with their tops off with children all over the place. Sadly, LA is the kind of place that these children don't get shocked by the site of breasts, but instead discuss amongst each other if they think they are real or fake over a bottle of 2% breast milk. The children here are always friendly to one another and there are surprisingly good parents hanging out with their kids and actually paying their kids attention. I love that. The water is nice, albeit toxic as a side effect of just being a part of this century on earth lol, and the sand is nice for collecting shells and whatnot with the kids. All in all I had the same great time I always do on this beach, and it was a little bit better because of my God children :) I give MDRB a playful 4 out of 5 stars. read more

Mother's beach is a good place to just chill . don't let the name fool you there are not any mother's here ...that I saw not that I'm looking for that I just thought there would be more than none . also not a dog friendly beach. Patrols of la county some times come by so u could get lucky and get by but why chance it.On the other side of the beach is permanent construction or guys playing with heavy equipment or possibly have no idea what there doing cause whatever there doing they're doing it for a long time and nothing seems to be happening. Mother's beach is great. I wish they would put some fountains or filtration systems in the water, but nothing's perfect.

First time coming back to this beach since 2009. It's beautiful,but very dirty.:( Litter and seaweed everywhere. And a tar like substance in the water,which made me worry if it was safe to swim in there. The bathrooms were just horrible with no toilet seat covers or soap anywhere. My family found used condoms in the sand and water twice... We left the beach with black goo stuck in our hair...with no idea how to get it out. But,other than that,this beach was fine and we still enjoyed it there. But,I probably won't be going back. read more

I often come here for quiet reflection. It is nowhere near as crowded as its neighbor Venice. I usually walk from the Marina side where parking is better. The parking is poor. Do not park on Washington without loyally paying the meter. You will get ticketed. As well, there really is not a convenient public restroom or food. read more

The beaches of Venice can get sketchy and over-populated, as can those of Santa Monica. Zuma, on the northern tip of Malibu, is still my favorite. But the quiet, reflective beach in Marina del Rey, is not as far of a drive if you don't feel like dealing with that Sunday PCH traffic. And like its big sister Zuma, you feel comfortable hitting it alone w/ a good book and a good sun umbrella for some of that aforementioned reflection we all need from time to time. (Bonus: few things will give your legs a better workout than a long, sweaty walk through deep sand.) ;-) read more

Great Beach Area right below the Venice Pier. Parking is tough to find sometimes, but then again when isn't it if you're going to the beach. But most of the side streets are free if you can manage to find an open spot. Not many local bathrooms or bike path below the Pier though. read more

Great place to chill! Very kid and family friendly! There are plenty of shaded tables and benches to have picnics or bbq witb tbe whole fam. The water isnt too cold, no waves and theres a shallow area whicb is perfect for babies and tots! There is also a big playground. You get a.cool view of the marina with all the yachts. Great little beach tucked away in the Marina. It's the perfect spot to launch your paddleboard or kayak, or bring your kids to the fantastic playground. Unfortunately, at the moment, there are super loud construction projects going on all around it so it's not all that relaxing. read more

All in all a good beach to chill at. The beach starts where Venice Beach ends around the pier at Washington and it extends all the way to the Marina Del Rey harbor entrance. The beach is very wide. Here are a few notes about this place: 1) The parking lot fills up early on summer weekends. 2) There is parking in the local neighborhoods, but you need to know where to look. The free street parking is difficult to find during the summer. 3) There is only food by the pier to the North and only houses to the South - nowhere to eat. So if you stray far from the pier you need to bring what you need. 4) There are only bathrooms by the pier and by the marina. It is a long walk in to them if you are sitting somewhere in the middle. 5) The beach area around the pier gets very crowed in the summer. 6) The South part of the beach is far less crowed. 7) On some days there are a good number of men that enjoy wearing thongs and g-strings. Never have seen any problems with them, but I have seen some parents freak out when their rug rats are playing in the water and a 99% naked dude strolls by. 8) I have seen many men sneak up on women out tanning to snap those notorious pictures of women's crotches you see about on the Internet. Have also seen some men with video cameras in their bags walking around trying to find some compromising shots of women laying around. 9) Be careful if you walk around on the sand in the area right in front of the houses. You might learn that this seemingly perfect area of beach is also the toilet of a slew of wealthy dogs. This leaves me to wonder what those dogs did in a previous life to deserve getting to use the beach as their personal crapper? Fresh air, sun, sand, ocean views and you get to drop a load if you're a dog. 10) Dogs are not allowed on the beach. 11) No smoking or alcohol on the beach. 12) If you park in a metered area on Washington you better pay the meter or you will get a ticket very quickly. 13) The police are very tolerant of everything that does not impose on others. Wish the LAPD was the same way. 14) The water by the marina sometimes contains higher than normal levels of bacteria. read more
