This beach is usually more quiet and less packed, compared to other more known beaches nearby. Despite there's a parking lot with free spots, it's filled quickly and you'll have to find street parking or paid garage much further away. I like the sunset view here.

The beach is incredibly dirty. I couldn't even find a clean place on the sand to sit on and had to leave! Shame on people for littering this way! There's something called a trash can. That's where you throw the trash. Very unpleasant. I don't know why human beings feel entitled and think it's ok to trash the environment. It could have been beautiful. Instead, they've made it a trash can. How hard is it to throw away the cup you're drinking from into a trash can, for example? It's just disgusting. Probably a place for bums at night too, could be... either way, not good. Go to Venice beach instead, or Fisherman's Village in Marina Del Rey. Or even Santa Monica. Santa Monica is actually cleaner now. Believe me, you're not missing anything by coming here.

And to finish it off, the beach that doesn't exist so don't bother looking for it. This isn't Venice or Santa Monica beach just don't worry about it guys. You don't need to visit. No one even comes here. Well obviously, cuz it doesn't exist. So no one's around. The parking is fine, I mean bad, either way it's just not worth it. Go find a beach with more stuff to do trust me. Leave this one alone.

Go somewhere else nearby , like Dock Wiler Beach or El Porto or Manhattan Beach. Playa del Rey is a mess. The parking is terrible. It's crowded. It's dirty. And generally not a good time.

The beach is not always a place....it's a feeling. Playa Del Rey Beach is a wide sandy beach in front of the Playa Del Rey neighborhood of Los Angeles. PDRB has a grayish black streaks all over the sand, straight up huge chunks of tar, and even tar all over the dry sand. This was my least favorite part of the beach. The beach is northwest of LAX Airport on state land at the north end of Dockweiler State Beach and south of the Marina Del Rey Harbor entrance. Moreover, PDR offers volleyball courts, sand dunes, a long paved bike path, public toilets, garbage bins and a grass park across the street that has a kids playground and basketball courts. Locals call the north end of Playa Del Rey Beach "Toes Beach" for hanging ten (toes) on a surfboard. This beach is least crowded, less charming and less popular unless you're a resident of the area. However, it still gives a good view of the pacific ocean. Who knows we might see a huge white balloon floating at 60k feet in the area. Lol. Plenty of street parking around the neighborhood. Overall, I like going to this beach and play beach volleyball.

Stunning. My friends and I finished having brunch at Playa Provisions, which was by design so we could walk to the beach afterwards. It was pretty empty and quiet for a Saturday morning. I love the expanse of soft sand. We swam around in the cool ocean water and suntanned (read: sunburned) on our towels. There were restrooms and trash cans available, so not bad in terms of amenities. Easy walking and biking paths to other parts of the neighborhood. Would prioritize visiting Playa Del Rey Beach next time I'm in town.

On a beautiful Los Angeles day. You can't beat this beach. Actually on a beautiful day all the Los Angeles beaches are great. However if you want a low key - clean beach area to chill out - Playa Playa is the beach. Parking is great and your just south of Marine Del Rey. Grab your hat - water - sunscreen - food - blanket and relax. I'll see you out here. Peace /Love

For the most part nice and clean, staff response time was quick to remove a dead seal from the beach. The weather was good nice morning for a Sand Walk.

*** what can i add that Janelle Q hasn't already said? *** well, it is true that this beach is never crowded but there are two good reasons for that: water and noise pollution. i deduct 3-stars for these reasons. save the environment! between motorboats entering/exiting an adjacent marina, debris running out of Ballona Creek (from LA), and water from the sewage treatment plant (that spoils Dockweiler Beach too), i'd have to say "beware" to water sport lovers. there's probably enough pollution to sicken you over time. and for those who do not wanna enter the water, the air traffic of LAX is distracting as well as the constant noise of helicopter tours and the LA County sheriff's helicopter. i've lived here for years and aircraft noise still annoys me. *** i like PDR Beach but just to lay out, tan, bike or run. ***

    I love this beach!

This beach was stunning and I loved how quiet it was here. I went here for a fun little mini shoot and the timing couldn't be more perfect. The overcast of the clouds and beautiful sunset made picture taking so much easier for the photographer since it was pretty empty. If you're looking for a hidden gem away from the crowd, this is that beach! Both sand and water was absolutely clean!

Keeping our beaches clean. Love our land.

This is definitely where peeps go to Hide away. 4/5 Beach Only reason I put 4 instead of 5 is there is no walkway along the sand as the neighboring beaches. We really enjoyed the beach. Parked and walked right onto the sand. 3.5/5 Bathroom If you have to go you have to go (Jurassic Park). Bathroom located right next to the parking lot. Older bathroom, could use a power wash or at least an air freshener. Shower right on the outside to wash off the sand. 5/5 Parking No paid parking by the beach, unheard of. If you can find a spot it's a hop skip and a jump from the sand. 5/5 Likelihood to Return Yes we've gone twice in the last month. This may be our new go to quick beach trip. I'm sure it's packed during the weekend but during the week its nice and calm. Psalm 5:2, God Bless and Stay Prayed Up

Weather was perfect... not too hot or cold. We weren't able to stay for too long as we had another event to attend to that day. We were able to stroll through the area and enjoy the scenic drive. Lots of small shops and restaurants on the main road. It didn't seem too crowded at the time, but then again, it was early morning. I'm sure as the day goes by, there would be more people. Parking was hard to find or perhaps I wasn't looking at the right place. I would love to return here one day to see the sunset from this beach. It is named Sunset Beach so I can imagine how beautiful the sunset would be. Can't wait to find out!

We love coming through here, not for the sand or the water, but for the view, bar and grub hopping. Coming through on an off-season midweek late lunch, we weren't surprised to find no crowds - which we kinda liked. (We've been here many times, mostly during weekend peak times and offff...) We didn't miss that at all. There are tons of cute shops, eateries (many who are very dog friendly), and fantastic ocean views. If you feel like getting steps in, I suggest walking to the end of the pier and back. Parking is hit and miss. A challenge during the weekends, but plenty. Street and structure available. You can pay with cards, coins or through an app. It never gets old coming through. We shall return over and over again.

Myself, along with other beachgoers, alerted the beach lifeguards about the situation but nothing was done to rectify the issue. I saw another member of the public notify a lifeguard and they were laughed off a bit. When I stepped forward to alert the same lifeguard about the issue, he just chuckled and said, "Yea, we know about it." Maybe it's just me, but I would not be laughing about what could be a serious situation with bird carcasses washing up every couple feet. The sand was also littered with a lit of trash and debris, adding to the uncomfortable situation. I would recommend staying away from the Hermosa Beach shoreline for awhile.
