Beach Park 1 is a public park (4.6 acres) with phenomenal ocean view. It is located between Hart Avenue and Hill Street on the beach side of Barnard Way. In the center of the park is a large paved plaza aligned with the end of Ocean Park Boulevard. The plaza has a double alley of dramatic palm trees, rows of bollards and sculptures. Furthermore, the plaza area, paths, turf and picnic areas were designed in 1985 by Campbell and Campbell. The park features several open grassy areas, rows of picnic tables, a Children's playground and a public restroom. In 2010, City Council dedicated Beach Park #1 in honor of environmentalist Dorothy Green. This park is popular among locals and tourist where they enjoy biking, play volleyball, running and walking. I love running by this beach park. Parking (+fee) lots are available next to Perry's Cafe. Overall, this is a great beach park with great ocean view. I highly recommend it.

Yup, that's the official name for these prime patches of turf & one kiddie play area. Beach Park #1 includes that grassy area bordering Perry's cafe, on the bike path in front of Sea Colony. It also encompasses that kiddie playground on the north side of the cafe. This park space, about 4-1/2 acres total, faces one of the most gorgeous beaches in LA, near the Venice Beach/Santa Monica border. It's a very wide beach at this point, and so pristine as to be mesmerizing. You have views of SaMo Pier to the north, an easy walk. Park locations don't get any better than this. So why does this park not have a more interesting name?!! Beach Park #1?? Gimme a break!! I got an idea for a new name: how's about Joan's Perfect Paradise?!! Haha! Perfect because the beach parking lot is right there bordering the south side of the park. You can pay by the day or use the metered spaces. And the potty is on the bike path in front of the parking lot and it's always clean, like all SaMo beach restrooms. And Perry's Cafe is there too! They got good iced tea, they got umbrella tables on the sand. And......you can rent bikes & skates next to the cafe! And.....you got great views: the Pier, the people. I saw a girl wearing a very skimpy bikini with boots up to her thighs, a couple weeks ago. A ton of makeup too! She was struttin' her not-so-great figure as if she was the shiznit. I was thinking....trick or treat, hahaha. The smallish grassy park space next to the cafe, on the south, is popular, and used for everything from sports to special events. I've seen it all here! There are picnic tables too, always in use. The tot lot on the other side of Perry's is popular as well. Kiddies everywhere. And the concrete surrounding the tot lot is somewhat of an unofficial skate park. I've seen plenty of bmx bike action there too. Always something going on, lots to see. Grab a seat in or around Beach Park #1 on a sunny weekend and enjoy LA in all its beachy, trashy, sporty glory. This park is #1 for a reason. 21 photos

Awesome beach nestled right between Santa Monica and Venice. It's not the prettiest of beaches as far as the coast goes but it's a good, clean, solid beach. I love that it's not super crowded and the sand and water is fairly clean! Last time we were here we saw a seal splashing in the water... so cute! If I'm going to lay out this is an easy and accessible beach with plenty of (paid) parking. This is also great place to start the bike path and ride to Santa Monica and then back to Venice again. Love this beach!

Playground has been closed for weeks at least. Would love to try it out but can't find any info on when it'll be opened again.

Some things to check out while in the park are the Santa Monica Camera Obscura and some civil war canons near the iconic Santa Monica Pier entrance sign.

The park was fantastic, pristine and spacious with a top tier playground. Felix's parents claimed a prime seating area right outside the playground, where we could eat and socialize while keeping an eye on our various kids. The set-up felt very safe and easy. I admit to losing track of my five-year-old for long stretches at a time, and once finding him in a piece of playground equipment with a group of children he didn't know, giggling as two of their dads spun them around and around. My two-year-old spent a lot of time in the sand with several toddler friends, pouring sand into a play table and also all up in their clothes. We brought our elderly basset hound Duke in a mobility stroller, and he got lots of attention, too. It was a nice outing for our whole family. I also couldn't help but notice that the park was right next to the Santa Monica Airport and other airplane-themed entertainment. We live pretty far from Marine Park, but I have a feeling we'll be back.

Parking was a breeze. The park has an indoor room you can reserve if you plan far enough ahead, but the outdoor tables are first come first served. Felix's parents claimed a couple tables and brought two of their own, creating a sizable shady party space right next to the playground. I think the whole area was surrounded by a fence, so none of the pre-school age children could easily wander off. My boys had a blast playing in the sand and on the cute structure. There was also a little set-up for puppet shows, and all the kids kept going over there and pretending to buy and sell ice cream. I live too far from Santa Monica to make much use of Joslyn Park, but I know a good park when I see one. I'd recommend this place if you have young children, whether for party time or just a relaxing hour of play.
