Great local market, I took my father here a year ago while picking up some produce and he remembered the curry powder and some deserts I grabbed a year later! He wanted to come back for some of these to give to relative back home. Bharat is very clean and organized, when you walk in it will remind you of Sprouts or Whole goods. They have a variety of Indian food, spices, and snacks you will only find at specialized markets like this. I've got szechuan peppercorn from here as well as Radhuni for making fish curry. My dad loves the "Pooja" local brand Curry Powder which is made right here in Fremont! It makes a delicious Indian style yellow-curry super good with protein and vegetables. My father also loves the Soan cake + papdi, they are deserts made in India, have tons of ginger, and are so flaky and light you can cut them with a spoon.

Plenty of insects/snails in their mint leaves

They have started online delivery. I have used their website to place order. Their staff, does not check the items that are sent to customers. This is basic expectation, that the items they send are not spoilt and is clean. Yesterday, I ordered a bunch of mint leaves. And when i received the leaves, the bunch contained so many snails. It wasn't 1 or 2 snails in the bunch, there were at least 6-7. It felt so unhygienic. The staff at the store is careless and not taking care to pack and send good stuff. Even before, I received a completely spoilt Honeydew fruit, which was charged quite high, @ $8 a fruit.

Love this place; Vegetarian hakka noodles anyone???
    Stylishshopper ..

I love this market. All things Desi, supplying all of my vegetarian needs from fresh produce to my beloved Hakka noodles..... Extensive packaged spice selection, chutneys, well stocked frozen cases with South and North Indian goodies..... Last trip I loaded up on Maggi noodles for the quarantine, chutneys, frozen Idli and some masala Gujarat Anand chips. Plus, the cashiers are always friendly and the place is so vibrant and clean too! Plenty of parking in the rear parking lot.

They have expired items on their counter. Be careful. Don't want to get sick after consuming. They don't care.

Because you can't get freshly baked Middle Eastern / Levantine pastries just anywhere in the Bay! If you've been to a Yemeni coffeeshop in the Bay Area, especially if it's in the East Bay, you might have seen this bakery's fatayer and manakeesh sold there since they supply a bunch of the coffeeshops. They bake all day and you can stop by at any given time and find freshly made pastries sitting on the table by the bakery section. In terms of selection, they generally have different types of fatayer (spinach, beef, chicken, cheese, more recently potato), manakeesh, lahm bi ajeen (soft flatbreads with a meat and tomato mixture on top), and chicken musakhan rolls. They don't always have every item available but they'll let you know what's in the oven. The pastries are 6 for $15 currently. They freeze well too. I've been here often and the customer service has always been friendly.

This used to be Marina, a fairly big Asian grocery store. Actually the outside still says "marina"…read morebut the receipt says Hashi and there are enough changes that tells me some slight changes have been made. This is actually my 'preferred' Asian grocery for my area...now. The produce department is significantly better/fresher than when it was Marina. Back in the Marina days, the produce were borderline sketchy, cheap yes, but if you found something, you better use/eat it within a few days, or else it may rot on you. Not here, most choices now seem fresher and sturdier. And still quite cheap, especially if there is a sale. 80% of my haul here is from this produce area to stock my kitchen for the week of a vegetable/fruit rich diet/habbit. I'm loving it! The Seafood area still seems quite the same. Marina was not bad in this department and Hashi is maintaining the choices and quality. I'll usually get something from the fresh seafood case as well. But if I want something more exotic or more premium then I'll have to go to another city like New Sang Chong in San Leandro or HMart in the south bay. The Meat section seems the same, maybe a tad cleaner in processing than when it was Marina. Things seem more cleanly cut and stacked. And the bulk meat you get by the pound behind the case are pretty darn inexpensive, especially for pork and chicken. If making a big family style dish I'll go here over Lucky's or Safeway most times. Pork Spareribs for $3/lb, boneless skinless chicken breast for $2/lb on special, and $3/lb for ground beef, ka mon brah, just can't beat those! Dry Goods the same as Marina, just maybe stocked a bit more. Marina had more holes/gaps in their shelves. So I have been coming in more since the changes cuz they have been working for me. So a positive change in the neighborhood...I gotta show my support and approval.

Delivery trucks parked in the passing lanes didn't help. Curious to view changes if any. The deli and eatery section isn't open. Only a travel agency occupies a vendor space. Entire left side isn't utilized. Big aisles with most shelves filled with goods at reasonable prices. Mexican, American, and Asian products sold. Medicines & hard liquors sold in front. Special section with products for Lunar New Year also in front. Sad to see only one register open. Didn't look for specials. May return at a future date when I have more time. Majority of shoppers were Chinese.

I remembered a place on Jackson Street that I had gone to 5 years ago that had a tremendous selection - looked it up on Yelp and it was no longer on Jackson, but was listed in Castro Valley. So we went thought we'd go by and give it a try. Great decision! The "new" store in Castro Valley is much brighter, cleaner, nicer than the old location. I think the old location had more stuff from Eastern Europe, but this new location seems to have a broader selection, with more stuff from Western Europe and the Middle East. The guy behind the counter was very friendly and helpful - always willing to answer questions and even give tips on how to use the products that they sell. And his recommendations have been great - we asked him about which tahini and zaatar to get (they have many different brands/types of each...) and the ones he recommended have been way tastier than any of the brands that you find in most markets. Especially good was his recommendation on lebnah - he said that the brands they carry are all good, but they have some that they package in-house that was special. I tried it - it was less expensive than the other brands, but was the very best lebnah that I have ever tasted! Richer, creamier, with just the right amount of tang. Wonderful stuff! Anyway, Crossroads is a nice, clean, well-lit place with a great selection of unique products, and friendly, knowledgeable sales staff. Well worth a trip!
