This Asian supermarket opens at 7am which is comparable to American supermarket hours. This is important because I like to shop before work and store the goods at the lunchroom refrigerator. This way, I do not need to fight the madness at supermarkets after work. It is no fun to deal with grouchy adults who are hungry and tired. Early in the morning, the stores are practically empty so I can take my time to read labels with my phone magnifier and won't be in peoples ways. And of course, there are no lines at the check out so when I am ready to go, I go. But beware of their deli and bakery. Avoid it. Numerous times, I have walked here during lunch time to buy some cooked food for a light snack. And each time, I have been disappointed. I would rather visit the golden arches across the lot for a snack. Some things I can only buy at Asian supermarkets: Thai banana, jackfruit, lemongrass, the many varieties of mushrooms, leafy vegetables and instant noodles, powder milk tea, sweeten condense milk in a squeeze bottle. This is one big reason why we cannot move out to the boonies where there are no Asian stores. read more

WHEN YOU GO TO THIS MARINA SUPERMARKET, YOU SHOULD PREPARE TO BE ACCUSED OF WHAT YOU DID NOT DO by two Vietnamese rude cashiers. I WILL REMIND YOU AGAIN LATER TO MAKE SURE NO OTHER CUSTOMER BEING TREATED LIKE SHIT BY THE STORE CASHIERS. I planned to buy a jackfruits but didn't know how to choose, I picked three of heavy ones and loaded into a shopping cart to roll inside and found a male employee to ask him to take a look and recommend me which one is good. He used his finger to press them and said normally the soft one is ripe. It was very quick for him like just one or two second like that to help customer. But when I rolled the cart out to put the other two firm ones back which had precut that looked a little messy with dark color, those two rude cashiers followed me: the short cashier who saw me to roll the cart out was behind Kim, another cashier, who ACCUSED ME FOR SOMETHING I DID MOT DO. Kim, the taller cashier yelled at me and said I was not allowed to make that employee to cut the other two jackfruits as sample to see inside the fruits and put them back. I WAS SURPRISED BECAUSE I DID NOT DO SUCH A THING and I calmly told her exactly what happened. Those two rude cashiers didn't believe me, Kim, the cashier kept accusing me for what I didn't do. I came to Kim station to pay for my groceries including the soft and uncut jackfruit and told her that it was wrong for her to falsely accuse customer for what they didn't do. I drove home already but still felt very upset about that. I drove back to Marina Supermarket again to see the cashier, Kim, and told her the reason why she should believe me; 1) She should have had proof like video or caught the act that I had the employee cut the jackfruits for me. 2) The other two cuts on the returned jackfruits had dark color which proved that they were cut long time before I came to the store. 3) If I asked the employee cut those two, why didn't I ask him to cut the third one for me, the uncut one, which I picked to the cashier to pay for it, to make sure that I pick the good one? I came back and planned to show her those two precut with dark brown colors, but they were gone, not there any more. Kim still tired to say they looked like new cut and did not apologize me for falsely accusing me. M.G. also a wider diversity of asian goods sold (korean, Phillipines,) while M.S. focuses on Taiwanese and mainland chinese products. Marina Grocery is one of my favorite Chinese grocery stores. I grew up with 99 Ranch, but something about Marina in Milpitas just hits me right. It's not necessarily the prices - but I think I just like the not-crowded atmosphere. The deli dollars you get for spending over $30 is a nice touch. I just could never figure out which items qualify and which items don't. Speaking of the deli - the folks at the deli are super nice. I've been getting trays of fried rice for our Tuesday Bible study groups for about three years now, and the folks know my order without me having to say it - small tray fried rice, no eggs, add chicken, pick up at 4PM. Even the guy who does the cooking knows me! The great thing about getting to know the folks behind the counter? When you forget to order ahead of time and need the rice done pronto, they'll help you out. When you come in and order snacks for your kids, they'll heap on extra helpings. Oh, and this isn't specific to this store, but you gotta try the Nong Shim Black noodles! read more

This Marina Grocery is always clean. Sometimes the produce is very fresh but sometimes not. Today I went in and the grapes had mold and were crushed/wet on the bottom of the containers. If you come here, don't expect any service. I grabbed 4 items and was ready to check out pretty quickly today. I walked to every single check stand and no one was around even though 2 were lit. I found one lady with a closed sign on the belt and she said go to one of the 2 that were lit. I told her no one was at any of them and it looks like everyone decided not to work. She agreed that there was no one around. She reluctantly opens her check stand as the guy behind me and I were already annoyed at the super slug slow service. Anyways, she scans my items and I was overcharged for my grapes. She doesn't tell me that she's checking the price but just walks away dragging her feet to look at the price, comes back to the check stand and yells across all check stands to her manager at the lottery station in Vietnamese. The manager sees here and ignores her twice. By now, the person behind me is fed up and left. Finally after the third call the manager drags her feet in her ghetto thong sandals and looks at the price, nods back at the check stand lady and then adjusts the price. I'm even more furious b/c she wasted my time checking prices when I told her I didn't want the items. Finally she voids my item and freaking doesn't need manager approval. I asked her why she didn't do this in the first place and she looked at me as if she was a deer in the headlights. I repeated to her again, "what part of I don't want the items anymore do you not understand?" My 5 minute shopping experience turned into 15 minutes or more. As I walk away, I thanked her for the rude and lacking service. There were about 5 people waiting in line by this point and they felt very uncomfortable. read more

This is the latest addition of Asian supermarkets in Milpitas. I still prefer Ranch 99 in Milpitas and the Marina Supermarket in Fremont because it feels so much cleaner and organized. I stopped by here the other night to pick up a couple items but the selection and and quality of produce was subpar compared to other Marina locations. The prices weren't the same either and seemed a bit higher for some things. They didn't do much renovation when they took over the former Lucky's/Albertsons location so it still looks pretty run down. I guess it's okay to stop by once in awhile if it's convenient but I rather go to Ranch 99, Lions, or Marina in Fremont for better quality items. I guess the good thing is that you can always find parking and there is never really a long line here. read more

Worst supermarket chain ever and I don't even know how to put the blame together. My dad wanted to buy a pair of slippers and was taken to the store in Union City. He said that store had a ton of stocks. Unfortunately, the quality was so bad that the one he selected was a broken one. The soles split up near the top in less than 2 days. So he wanted to get an exchange. We went to the store closer to home, in Milpitas. The moment I stepped into the store, I smelled stink. It's the kind of dead fish unfresh smell as if things have rottened for days. We headed to the asiale for slippers and the selection was pathetically limited.; most of them were even defected. So we asked if we could get a refund. The store manager told us that they don't do that for other locations. So a) their products have bad quality and b) as a chain they don't cover each other. I am not going to drive 40 miles and pay 10 bucks of gas to get a pair of $4 slippers. Even worse, we found a perfectly good pair in the trading company in Milpitas Square for only $2.99. Some people love it, some people hate it. So when I used to live across the street from here, this was my go to Asian grocery store. It's clean and it has everything an Asian needs. They have fresh produce at very low prices. You can spend a $100 here and the food could last you well over a month. White people definitely don't know what they're missing if you have yet to visit an Asian grocery store. Now that I live down the next exit where we have a brand spanking new Filipino grocery store and across the street a poor excuse for an Asian supermarket, I usually opt to go back down a few more stop lights for Marina. Why? Well first off, there really isn't any reason to go to the other Asian market unless your desperate. And second of all, the Filipino grocery store is way over-priced and doesn't have the best quality of produce. The only thing they're really good for are hard to find Filipino products. Then down the road some more I could hop off on over to Ranch, the Emerald City of all Asian grocery stores. But they don't have it all. They for one didn't have the brand of Grass Jelly drank that I love so much. But who did have it? Good ol' Marina Grocery store...that's right. read more

The store that used to occupy this location was Lucky's/Alpha Beta/Albertsons. Now, you have Marina Grocery. Initially, I would have wanted a European store, but because Milpitas is an Asian suburb, it makes sense to have this as an Asian store though there is another one just a number of blocks down (Ocean). High points. Well, the clerk I went to was nice. Also, it's clean and it has a lot of items. The prices are not bad to a point. As for the low points, it may have a selection. However, the deserts are limited as a whole, as I don't see many types of Pocky sticks and I don't recall seeing Pepero sticks. This spot isn't ideal for Japanese and Korean items now that I think about it. Then again, if I want Japanese items, I'd go to a store like Mitsuwa, and if I want Korean items, I'd go to Santa Clara. I really can't make this review witty. Marina is just a nice store as a whole. They are selling moon cakes that have mold. I just bought a package from Marina Grocery on Spet-15. The cake was made by Mai's Bakery. About 10 days later when I opened one, I saw it had mold growing like a little mushroom on the surface. On the package, it did not say expiration date. store is quite clean for Asian store. Has adequate stock. However, cashier registers are the worst. They recently upgraded their credit card payment which akes about 3 minutes to process a transaction to less than 30 seconds. Which is great. But they have the slowest employees, especially this middle age lady. I literally wait at least 15 minutes when there are only 3 people ahead of me with less than 15 items. The manager needs to do something about her. I'm losing my patient as this has happened to me on 5+ occasions. Unfortunately, sometimes they have only 1 or 2 registers open, so I have no choice. This grocery isn't crowded on the weekdays but the cashiers are very slow. The owner who is pushing the carts to the parking structure is very rude. I approached asking to see if I can get one of a cart from him. He went berserk because I spoke in English. He said he looked at me he knows I am Vietnamese why do I not speak Vietnamese? First off I do not know him. Second not everyone with black hair is Vietnamese. He should learned to not pass any judgements because we came in with different colors. People came in and speak English because that's generic. For all I know people could be Hmong, Laos, Thailand and Cambodian. He is so imbecile to lashed out on me. This is very hostile to shop there. I only shop here bc it closes at 10pm and on days my friends and I want to drink soju at home Marina is the only Asian supermarket that's open late enough to get our soju fix. On my recent trip here a 750ml bottle of soju was $8.99- non flavored. Decently priced compared to the small bottles sold in restaurants for $5+. They have a good selection of snacks and candies as well as good deals depending on the week. My mom likes to occasionally shop for veggies here and she says it's decent. My only gripe would be that the workers don't know where things are so if you're looking for something in particular you're better off on your own. read more

This is the market where I can get konyakku jelly powder and other Asian items. But you just need to be careful with the items they sold because some of the items can be already expired. Last time, I bought one packet jelly powder and I didn't check on expiration date, it actually expired about 2 months. Today, when I'm looking for sauces and I found out that some of sauces have already expired more than 3 months. So just make sure that you are checking on expiration date with what are you going to buy. read more

I haven't been here since it used to be Lucky's and woow this is an asian-fied Lucky's! I came here to get some cheap ol' ingredients for the week's lunch and so I got my tofu and veggies lol. But I found the store had much more to offer! The place is much cleaner than Lion or Ocean Supermarket for one thing, and prices are pretty much the same, some items cheaper. No flies were seen lurking on the produce, and they had a decent selection of fruits and veggies. They have a better bakery area than Lion and Ocean, and their meats area is little smaller. They have live HUGE shrimp! I've never seen that lol. I like that the place also had a very organized area of wine and beer. Upon checkout, I saw the register said something about coupons in the Milpitas Post. I will check next time to see. If you spend $30 then you get a coupon or something towards the meat department. read more

I have purchased pork that was bad, brought it back to them and was faced with attitude instead of an apology. ( you know that bitch face attitude, where they toss the money back at you or slap the money on the counter heavily to show their discontent?) What's this? The white chick is yet again reviewing an Asian market? Damn straight. I think I want to try everyone in the Bay area. This one is a pretty decent size and very, very clean. I was very happy they had a great selection of brands, and not just Chinese and Japanese goods. I really love Filipino goods and they had a great selection, including the particular brand of cane vinegar I use for my adobo, which I've only found at Seafood City. They also have my favorite brand of Coconut juice, again, I've only been able to find it at Seafood City. Now, this won't replace my obsession with Seafood City, but since this is right around the corner from my friend's home, it's very convenient when I come down to visit and nice to know I can get the basics I need much closer. They have a wonderful bakery inside, but they seem a but pricey. You can get the same cakes at stand alone bakeries for cheaper, but if you need to do all your shopping at once, it's bearable. The seafood and meat selection was very wide and decently priced as well. However, as all Asian market are, your "American" brands are much more expensive here. So you certainly want to go else where for those items. However, everything else is very reasonably priced. I'm sold. read more

One of my many happy discoveries, I keep going back to this market for their produce and fresh meat department. Their prices are pretty decent and we are also able to find Hawaiian bread, which is great for toast and does not contain milk products or high fructose corn syrup. Customer service is average, but the checkers are very efficient and do not engage in the idle chit-chat that can sometimes tie up a checkout line. We have purchased items from the deli with mixed results. Sometimes it's good, and others, not so great. On my most recent visit, I was VERY disappointed to find one of the employees sitting behind the steam table area slurping noodles or something. Since when is it okay for employees to eat in the public serving area? I have been certified in food safety training courses and I don't recall this scenario being an okay thing to do. A few minutes later, that same employee sneezed, grabbed a tissue to blow her nose, and then walked over to the microwave in the food service area to open it. She never once washed her hands. 4 stars for the supermarket, +1 star for having the best pineapple crust bread in the whole NorCal. Sheng-Ki, Sogo, & Kee-wah can't compare. If pineapple crust bread is your thing, come here, but leave a few for me. The supermarket is nice, clean, and bright, moreso than most of the asia supa's around this area. Not so new as the Marina in Fremont (different chain), but better than most in North San Jose. If 99 is Chinese, and Lion's is SE asia, then this feels like a good middle ground, with more Chinese stuff. read more

Located at the old Lucky Supermarket. This strip mall was dead when Lucky's closed down. Marina Grocery opened and you will be lucky to find a parking spot. Asian Market similiar to Ranch 99. Prices about the same. (Onions were a great deal. 4 pounds for a dollar.) Much cleaner than Ocean and California Ranch and not as crazy as Ranch 99 and Lions. Deli food could be better. There's a great selection of asian grocery items here for pretty good prices and decent quality. The store is not the cleanest and everything just seemed a bit grubby. My experience at the register was also not the best. The lady at the cash register demanded that I calculate $5 minus however much I had spent on my $5 visa card so she could enter in the amount left on my card, and she stared at me impatiently with a frown on her face during the entire transaction. read more

OMG I can't believe I never wrote a review for this place! This review is strictly for their drinks, packaged snacks and stuff like canned goods, packaged food and all that jazz. I don't buy the meat here. I don't buy the veggies here. I don't buy the fruits here. Don't ask why. Just go and you will see for yourself lol. Even the bakery looks sketch. They always have unique drinks and rotate sales too. This is probably one of my favorite places for drinks and I stock up like crazy every week. The drinks here I can't find anywhere else it's crazy. They even carry a drink I was only able to find in Texas and Sacramento! I went back to Sacramento last year and they no longer carry this favorite drink of mine. However Marina carries it!! Cray cray. I can't tell you what it is because you're gonna go there and wipe them out. That's what happened when I told my friend about it and he told another person and who knows how many other people they told. Ever since then I keep my favorite drink a secret. There were times it was out of stock for a long time but I am glad it's back. They raised the price probably because I always buy it lol. They don't mind you buying the whole case they are more than glad to help you carry it if it's a man you find in the aisle. Overall this is one of my favorite Asian supermarkets for drinks and packaged food. What I love the most is that they close at 10pm!!! Ranch 99 closes at 9pm and Me Kong closes at 8pm or something. This places closes at 10pm! How convenient!!! Saved me so many times. Also the parting lot is HUGE and you can always find parking unless Ranch 99 where there's never parking and tite ass spots. This parking lot has a lot of slanted parking slots so it's very easy to park. Once again, I am a fan of this supermarket for cheap Asian drinks! read more

I absolutely love it here. Compared the Lion Supermarket and Ocean Supermarket, the checkout service is so much faster and the food is more fresh and more organized. I think prices for the most part are the same, but this is the only grocery store that has quality Beef Flank. I always use this beef in some of my cooking because there's very little fat on the meat so it really reduces my prep time for cooking as well as my cooking. They also have a pretty wide selection of noodles. They have the vietnamese noodles, chinese noodles, japanese noodles, and more, which is great for a quick meal. I also love the snack aisle :) Lots of tasty snacks from various asian cultures as well. Marina grocery also has a lot of japanese fruit juices/soda that I would normally have to go to Mitsuwa for, so it's really convenient. I was skeptical going here because I'm so loyal to my other grocery stores, but people are nice here and I never have to compare prices because I know it's always a good deal. I cooked a meal for 5 last week and it costed me only $20!!! I think everyone should give this place a shot, It's clean, organized, and has quick service. read more

I guess I should come here on fridays because the food selections and quality on weekdays aren't all that great compared to when I first came. Their spicy chicken was not good- not spicy, over battered, stale and extremely dry. The vegetable chicken stir-fry was okay had chunky button mushrooms, baby corn and zucchini. The fried rice was disappointing- dry and rough, not as fresh and soft as I remembered. Overall, I basically ate less than a quarter of the food and ended up tossing it.. what a waste and I hate wasting food! Will I be back? Occasionally for ingredients, but I don't think I'll be coming to the deli anytime soon. read more

2 Stars for cleanliness and convenience....-1 star for quality of meats (in particular). I purchased chicken wings from here twice, and both times, it was spoiled!!! I didn't bother to return because it would be more of a hassle than what its worth. On the other hand, I have purchased other meat, pork, beef & ground meat that has been very fresh and lean. They have even sliced my beef for me, perfectly thin for philly cheese steaks, free of charge. Their prices are GREAT for produce! I did not like the hot food (Chinese/Mandarin). It just wasn't fresh, and they served it to me COLD! They do have a bakery that has a variety of pastries, breads, etc...that are fresh and good.
