    Worm inside a date

A week ago my grandma bought a box of dates from this store for Iftar. We had been eating them for several days without noticing anything unusual. Today, one of our guests bit into a date and found a worm inside. It was absolutely disgusting. After that, we started opening the rest of the dates one by one and almost all of them had worms inside. This is extremely concerning, especially since dates are commonly eaten during Ramadan. Quality control and proper storage should be a priority. Very disappointed and honestly shocked by this experience. What's even more alarming is that the box did not have any expiration date on it. That is unacceptable. People, please be careful!!!

I was visiting the area and noticed this market. This market and to go hot food selection is excellent. I want to come back here to shop for foods for Thanksgiving, so I can share with my family.

Ask the Community - International Food Bazaar

    How's the parking here?

    Easy

Do you bring in Nowruz, specifically Haft Seen items?

Yes, we do starting in March.

Hello, Is your merguez sausage halal?

    Yes it is!

What are the exotic/less-usual fruit options? I saw mamey. Do you carry Spanish lime?

Selection varies by season, we try to buy as much local as possible. Spanish lime isn't typical, but you can make special orders at the store.

Hello wonderful people! Does anyone know if this place sells either tamarind paste/purée? Thank you all

    Yes they do

    Do they sell halaby pepper?

Halaby (also known as Aleppo pepper) is carried at the store.

Hello, do they sell merguez sausages there?

There are sometimes, not always, merguez sausages in the pre-packaged refrigerated area. I've had them a couple times and they are delicious.

I was told this market carries a small assortment of imported hookahs? Can anyone verify this?

Yes they do carry an assortment of hookahs and the tobacco. Different size hookahs, colors and styles.

I wanted to like this spot more than I did. It's very clean and seems well organized. But the main…read morereason I went there was to sample their prepared hot food. There was no hot food prepared and no explanation as to why or when it would return. That could be just the day I chose, but my bigger problem is that virtually nothing is priced in the entire store! There's stuff out on tables, no price tag anywhere, no nothing. For some things in the cold case there is a piece of paper stuck on the side and if you can match up your item to the paper, you're in luck. But there are things on the shelf that aren't on the paper. My philosophy on this is "If you can't be bothered to price it, I can't be bothered to buy it." I refuse to go find someone to ask a price on every single item I might want to buy. I'll leave instead. When asking the friendly staff member at the register about the lack of hot foods, there was a prepared item there that looked good so I broke my own rule and asked. His accent made me believe it was one price, so I decided to get it, only to find out it was twice what I thought I'd heard! I bought it anyway, a package of four aloo paratha, which was really tasty but much spicier than I had expected. I may go back to see if the hot foods return (there is a digital menu above with prices already) but unless things on shelves are priced, I won't be shopping the rest of the store.

I've been on an aged balsamic vinegar and olive oil binge lately, and have checked out a bunch of shops ranging from San Diego to Carmel Valley near Carmel-by-the-Sea. I was excited to potentially discover a closer source of high quality balsamic vinegar and olive oil. To assess how good of a product they had, I asked for the 25 year aged balsamic and the Picual EVOO. The 25 year aged balsamic was quite watery, had OK flavor (just a bunch of basic berry and grape flavors, no honey), and had too much of a vinegary bite. In comparison, the 25 year aged balsamic that I had in Carmel Valley poured like molasses with an incredible mouthfeel, much richer and more complex flavors including oak cask flavor and an ultra-long wildflower honey note finish. Next up was the Picual EVOO. Honestly, I didn't really taste very much aside from a light olive aroma. Felt very watery, not much of that green/herbal note, no sharpness, just a whole lot of nothing. This was even more disappointing than the 25 year Balsamic. The Picual I had in Carmel Valley was punchy as it should be, tons of fresh herbs, grass, spice all up front. I don't know if it's potentially a difference in first extraction vs using the remnants/grinds. But I cannot recommend the olive oil at all. The drive really is worth it guys, until an actual proper EVOO and Vinegar places shows up in South Bay at least.

I thought some dishes were great; the wagyu burger was decadent. Other dishes were not that special. The scallops didn't taste too fresh (likely frozen) and combining them with hummus didn't quite work. The side of bread was practically insulting. $5 for stale table bread was a surprise. Dishes arrived very late; we were nearly forgotten when we tried to order, and then after ordering, we waited 40 minutes between appetizers and the main course. Not because they were cooking it; they just forgot we were there and when they brought out the dishes, the scallops were no longer just-cooked, and the burger had been sitting for a bit. No apology, just an acknowledgment it was late, and no discount (not even on the stale bread). They offered us wine, we said we didn't drink, and they just moved on. I debated a lot about how to review this. It's my personal experience that was disappointing, and I'm glad some reviews are very upbeat.
