From the moment you walk into the front office and are greeted by Holly at the desk , you feel welcomed. The counselors are wonderful, receptive, and genuinely care about the students . Every email I've ever sent has been responded to promptly, which shows how dedicated the staff is. It's been such a positive experience for my son. We did not have the best experience at Stacey Middle School so this has been a huge blessing. The football coaches do an incredible job--not only teaching the game, but also instilling respect for their school, teammates, and peers . Supervision on campus is very present, which gives parents peace of mind. The school may be "small," but it makes a BIG impact on these kids. Highly recommend this school for families looking for a supportive, well-run, and encouraging environment. Go Vikings! read more

Please do something about the weed problem. I'm a student here. All the students are pretty nice except some girls who wear 10 pounds of makeup. I went into the restroom and there was a group of girls smoking weed or marijuana. I tried not to breathe but the smell got into my head. I'm a second hand smoker, meaning I had a family member who smoked, which caused me to have health issues. So this incident triggered my asthma and caused me to have a really bad headache and I felt like I couldn't breathe, so I went to the doctor. Please please do something about it. I can't stand how non tolerance this school is. Do something about your students. read more

School is nice except Mr.Ziemann. He is the AP Human Geography teacher. All he does is talk about politics and how great Kamala is and how terrible trump is. If you're so passionate about politics that you let it get in your way of teaching, then become a politician! Regardless of party affiliation, it is so uncomfortable being in his class. This school is great very good spirit good at sports for someone who doesn't like sports going to watch. Those is very fun. The teachers and students are all very nice and welcoming. We were here for two days for USA football Camp. The campus is nice. Lots of parking. Beautiful football field. My only complaint would be the bleachers. They are the tiniest I've ever seen. Only like a dozen people fit. I don't know what they do for home games. Lol. read more

Open swim in summer 2019 was only $2 per person and the pool was big & clean. Enjoyed our time here, too bad they don't allow kick boards or other flotation devices / equipment while you are in open swim hours. read more

We were here all weekend for a soccer tournament. It was cloudy and breezy so a lot of people driving in from the IE looked cold in their flip flops and T-shirts. It's a big place with plenty of parking but you're going to walk a while to get to your field. 1 day we went to the Marlin Bar across the street between games and the other we rode our bikes down to the beach, which is about 1/2 hr ride away. The fields were in good shape; the bathrooms were not. I won't go into details but they were some of the nastiest I've seen. read more

This school in itself isn't bad. The nurse is the reason why I rate this place 1 star. She is ignorant and doesn't care about the feelings of the students. She accuses them of lying and personally accused me of doing drugs and got upset with me when I had a bloody nose. She refused to help me when I was in pain and I saw try to send my friend home when they had a headache (which my friend gets a lot) and said they were trying to mask a contagious illness. Please either transfer her or find someone who is actually qualified when it comes to nursing and has education on illnesses or pain. A literal health teacher would be better than her read more

Even though I only went to school there for one year in 2006, I can review it somewhat. It's a decent school, with an okay campus; they were doing some renovating on an entire building, but it's finished now. Nothing beautiful, and the school is surrounded by a moat. The gym isn't large enough really to hold all of the 1000+ students they have, which now must all attend rallies, which were once voluntary. Before, if you chose not to go to a rally, you could wait out in the quad area, which was called "the Bowl". It's a small area, dipping inwards at a slope, henceforth "the bowl". This isn't that big, and has old wooden benches. Graduation is held here, and doesn't feel very special. Teachers are decent enough. Most appear to care, and have personalities. There is one there, though, that has honestly changed my life, and I hope all students get to have him guide them for a year or two. He really cares and will push you even if no one else will so that you achieve what you want; he's just amazing and all schools should have teachers like him. There is an inside cafeteria but also a handful of lunch carts outside, surrounding "the Bowl". These carts are usually a madhouse and unorganized -- there is shoving and hovering around the woman collecting your money and handing out the food -- no lines are made. The food was pretty good, though! Decent amount of variety. This was from my experience in '06, and I'm sure some has changed a bit. Still can't get over how the kids are now locked in during the day, and that crazy moat. Many, many kids that year transferred over to Huntington Beach High School, which is said to be a lot better in pretty much every aspect. Hm. read more

The only reason I gave this school any stars at all was because of my amazing teachers. Otherwise, I wish yelp had 1/4 stars because that properly reflects my experience there. The attendance office is made up of dissatisfied harpies with absolutely no regard for students. The food is obviously high in sodium, trans fats, and most importantly I dare you to find any thing on this campus that doesn't have hfcs!!!!! Also, the emphasis on school spirit is pretentious. Dodgeball was fun tho.. However the English Honors program was one of the best experiences of my life, I loved pretty much every teacher I had..they were just so passionate about literature!!!!! Also, the Social Studies department had some of the coolest teachers I've had. Really opened my eyes. read more

I was here for a kendo tournament to support one of my students. I really can't give a rating because we only were in the gym. The gym is very large for a high school and has enough room to hold our tournaments which require space for a number of courts. If you are looking for a good place for a martial arts tournament give this place a consideration. read more

Hey CHILL OUT. I go to this school right now. I have to admit I hate the moat... so much, but a lot of the school embraces it. There's even a snapchat filter you can use when your on school grounds. Personally, I don't use it because as I've established it don't like the moat. The only reason I give this 4 stars is because I'm a student. I'm not gonna give it 5 stars are you kidding. Sure we have our "home games" at westminster hs because we basically have no bleachers, and sure our gym is small and we have to have 2 seperate rallies to have everyone experience it, and yeah our campus is a bit small. But it's not like we can make it bigger, we have a moat, a park, and some business building by our football field(I have no idea what that building is i just see it when we're on the track). The teachers are great, some of us just don't like our teachers. That doesn't mean that they're bad teachers, it just means we don't like the teacher/teachers. I don't like some of my teachers this year but they're not bad teachers. Also the food carts the go around the bowl, they have lines. Whatever crazy mess that situation was before, it's not like that anymore. I don't know what condition the benches in the bowl are, my friends and I don't hangout there. It gets hot there, but there are A LOT of places for people to hangout at. During lunch, people hang out all over campus. Around the bowl, by the office, in the hallways, by the basketball courts, by the soccer field, by the pool, by the gym, and even on our little bleachers. Probably in other places too I just can't think of anymore off the top of my head. Anyways, it's a pretty okay school people just think huntington hs is better because their campus looks like a castle (lowkey love that) and it's by the beach, but really the schools are basically the same they just have a pretty campus and bigger budget. I'm not trying to hate on huntington either. I have have a lot of friends and family that go there and they say it's a really good school. So yeah the school's pretty good. By the way if you see this and you know me don't say anything I'm just doing this because I'm procrastinating and a lot of these comments are out dated. After graduating here and attending all four years here, playing sports and acquiring college units via ROP I can say this school is a great atmosphere with good teachers and students as well as classes and options. Went to pick up my transcripts today and I still can say the only rude person on campus is the lady at the front desk. read more

If you can avoid going here, do. The vast majority of the administrators and office staff are just punching the clock, unable to think beyond the scope of their very narrow job descriptions. Receptionist? Yes, I can say "hello" and "yes, I can make sure that gets to the right person" full knowing she has no idea who the person is that needs to get the forms being dropped off and not having the brain capacity to recognize "oh, I don't know who that is. Maybe I should call the person who dropped the form off or ask someone else who might know." Nope, that kind of forward thinking does not happen at Marina. The disdain for concerned parents is palpable - concerns such as what classes your child needs to meet the requirements for various colleges, graduation - and the disregard for the majority of the students is similar. In a word, the school is terrible and not a fostering environment for learning, but more of what it looks like, a prison-like weigh-station just waiting to release its inmates. read more
