HOW SHE USUALLY LOOKS AFTER A GROOMING! (This is from "Paws and Effect" and I will never make the mistake of going elsewhere again!

I don't like to leave bad reviews and the people here seem nice, but I went here because the place I usually go is further away and slightly more expensive, and I had heard from another dog owner I met waiting in line at (nearby) Noah's bagels that this place was good. (Maybe that's not the most reliable source?) I have a tiny golden doodle and I made sure to say not a poodle cut, a golden doodle cut, and I picked how long the hair should be (based on their chart) and asked for a teddy bear face, and when I picked her up she looked like a rodent. And everyone who sees her says, "What happened?" (and usually after a cut she still looks really cute). When I called to see if she was ready they said she squirmed around a lot and made it very difficult (she's never done that before and she gets groomed almost once a month), so I think she was uncomfortable with whatever they did, and frankly now so am I. I would never go again and I can't wait for my poor puppy's hair to grow out!

I have been bringing my dogs to Marina Pet Spa for years. They are wonderful. one of my dogs is difficult to groom one is very easy. They are great with both. They truly love dogs!

Hagi, Ricky and the rest of the team are amazing. They clearly love what they do and they're very good at it. They treat all the dogs with such love and compassion. Their prices are very reasonable and they are accommodating with your schedule. I have a Bernese Mountain Dog and it is a big job to groom them. My dog was always conflicted because he didn't like water or to be groomed but he loved seeing Hagi and Ricky. I can't recommend them highly enough.

Everyone here is polite, courteous, personable, friendly, and best of all, talented, professional groomers! They are responsive and understand customer service. If they don't reply to your text right away, it's because they're working. I used to take my standard poodle to people who groomed for Parisian dog shows in Europe. I like these people better. read more

I normally wait until I have more than one experince with an establishment before I leave a review, but with this pet groomer, I'm so pleased that I have to write a review because I'm 100% sure my experience here will always be positive. Julia at the front desk is so patient, kind, and friendly. She loves animals, and you can tell! When I called her on Saturday, 05/16/26, I had already called some grooomer in the santa mon ica area, and they were all booked for the day and didn't offer walk-ins. Luckily, Julia found a lot of time alot for my pup for 1:30. She was able to open a profile for me while I was on the phone with her, and the check-in was smooth and easy. My pup Toto was ready in about 1.5 hours and looked and smelled wonderful. He had a wash, nail clipping, teeth cleaning, and ear cleaning. Parking: Free parking in this little strip mall, and meter parking nearby. Pro Tip: There is a nail salon just 2 doors down, where you can get your nails done while waiting for your pup! read more

Jason is absolutely the best dog groomer you'll ever find! He's the only one who knows how to cut and style my Maltese shitzu properly, and he's so kind to her as she is very anxious! I drive from Redondo Beach and hang out in Marian Del Rey for a couple hours while he grooms her, then drive home. He's worth the drive! Highly recommend him. read more

Our new groomer! What a great experience for us and our little guy! From the initial phone call, to walking out the door... a stress free experience for us and our dog! Well, Olive pretends she doesn't love it when she does the shaking thing when we arrive , but she quickly settles down when she sees Ricky her favorite groomer. I highly recommend marina pet spa. I have an 80lbs Malinois who hates the hair dryer, and groomers always seem to get annoyed by that. So I'd been looking for a friendly groomer who doesn't mind his protestation, and I think I found it. This place gave him a great grooming in just a few hours, and all of the staff were very friendly. The only thing you'd need to plan around is being readily available to pick up your dog upon completion of service. They have a 15 minute grace period, then charge a fee for 15 minute increments beyond that. Luckily I live close enough to their location that I was able to pick up my dog between meetings. Aside from that this was a very pleasant experience and I'll likely return. read more

I have been a loyal customer of Marina Pet Spa for over 16 years. When the ownership turned over recently I was nervous that the wonderful service, and thoughtful care of my pups would suffer. All that worry for nothing! The new owners have kept the same talented staff, and added a few new gems. They've upgraded the booking system, which has proven to be efficient and seamless. Every time that we are there, my dogs and I are BOTH greeted with warm smiles. When we leave, we're even happier than when we arrived. My pups (one maltipoo and one super mutt) come out calm and clean with ZERO residual grooming trauma. This speaks to the individual attention that each dog there gets. They meet the dog where they are, and don't expect the dog to adapt to them. I can imagine that this takes time, but they see the value in it. I'm forever grateful for Marina Pet Spa! read more

We can't believe what he did to our dog...they shaved him completely even though he was barely matted. We are shocked and upset and got a dog that was COMPLETELY cut up and it was so sad. I want to start by saying I'm a business owner myself, so I take writing a negative review very seriously- I would never do this if it wasn't warranted. With that said, this place is literally terrible. They took a beautiful one year old, fluffy puppy and shaved him completely without our permission (no call or any attempt to notify and ask). Our dog looked so different when we picked him up that we weren't sure if it was him. He has cuts all over his body, been shaking all weekend, and from how he is acting (low energy, sad, ashamed), it seems like they really traumatized him. I'm not sure what all the positive reviews are about and glad other puppies didn't have to suffer but unfortunately, ours did. We will obviously not be back and are devastated that our dog's hair will likely take months to grow back, but watching him suffer right now is even more devastating. read more

We recently moved here from Silicon Valley and needed to find a new groomer for our small Shih Tzu. I looked online to find someone in Marina del Rey and stumbled upon this business. I have generally had positive grooming experiences in the past at other shops, but sometimes my dog isn't groomed the way I want him to be. I like to keep my dog's hair very short which is unusual for his breed. I showed Marina Pet Spa a picture of my dog from the past and they did a good job replicating his haircut. This place is seriously the best. So good that I'm almost reluctant to post a review in case they get too busy and can't squeeze in my coddled shih tzu for his grooming! Hagie and the team take such great care of my pup, best haircut he has ever had (and I'm one of those picky owners with lots of instructions). Took my little guy for a grooming (incl. cut and nail trim) here and it was great! Love Haggi - he was so chill, and he LOVES these dogs. My pup was not anxious and did great with the staff, and he was in and out fairly quickly, looking great. They were also able to get me in on short notice, which is always fantastic. Two groomers told me to go to the vet for it. That sounded like several hundred dollars to do what a groomer would do, and probably them also suggesting a four figure surgery to remove the dewclaws. Walking by The Pet Affaire, I decided to drop in and met Rodney, who told me to come by the next morning with the dog. In about 10 minutes, a unfazed Rodney and his team did all his nails and cut back the problem dewclaw significantly, despite the Cujo-like antics of the (muzzled) dog. The price was super reasonable and the dog doesn't associate me with the unpleasant experience. Win-win. I love watching pros who know what they're doing, and this was a perfect example of that. DO NOT GO HERE. If I could sue for animal abuse, I would, it seems like my dog has been tortured…read more For context: my dog is 9 years old, 6 pounds, has no teeth, and has had a C-section. She is small, elderly, and vulnerable. She also has no way to protect herself. Since this groom, my dog is shaking, terrified, withdrawn, walking abnormally, and yelps in pain when picked up and pet even gently. She's previously a show dog, has been groomed many times before, and has never had this kind of reaction. Her personality changed from a happy, social dog who loved being held & pet to a fearful, in constant pain, trembling dog. I brought her in with clear instructions and reference photos: do not cut short. Small trim only--even the coat and keep her round. The woman I spoke to appeared to understand. I arrived for pickup and she was shaved down. No call. No consent. Only after I saw what was done did a man at the front say she "had mats" and told me to "come back every month." If matting was the issue, you call the owner before shaving--especially after being told "do not cut short." There were multiple options (spot demat, longer session, reschedule, partial trim). I would have happily paid for whatever extra time was needed to avoid putting my dog through pain. I had my phone on me and I have no missed calls/texts/voicemails from the business. I've been to the vet within the last month for a full checkup and they confirmed she was healthy, happy, and in zero pain pre-groom. I brush her daily, carefully shave her stomach at home to prevent matting, and she's nothing but sweet. I've had Pomeranians before--this isn't my first rodeo. If they're claiming they shaved her because they thought she was "in pain" before, which she wasn't--she is clearly in a lot of pain now. She can barely sit down without wincing in pain. I called my vet and they're having me come in for a check up this week to make sure they didn't hurt her irreversibly. I paid and left because I'm not confrontational and I was in shock. But when I saw her walking outside I knew something was seriously wrong. I got to my car and broke down crying while holding my helpless dog. And on top of that, the grooming itself is genuinely bad: uneven, choppy, rough, and looks rushed, careless. I'll have to trim her myself to make sure it grows in evenly. They offered a refund which I have not received. I would never want this service even if it were free--trauma is lifelong. Before/after photos attached. If you care about your dog's wellbeing, DO NOT GO here under any circumstances. Its a sketchy business, boarded up windows; I chose it because I thought it was a kinder groomer since they say they don't use cages but you can't see where the dogs are groomed so who knows & there's a genuine lack of care or gentleness in their grooming methods. I don't think my dog has smiled since the appointment.

And the convenience of mobile grooming made up for the fact that our monthly expense for cutting the hair of one dog was higher than the combined monthly expense of cutting the hair of two adult humans. Once the pandemic started easing up, the quality went down. For a few months, they'd been leaving his fur longer than we requested. So, last week, I asked for it to be a tiny bit shorter -- one setting on the trimmer. Something got lost in translation, I guess, because they practically shaved him. Take a look at the pictures. But the real problem comes from their response. When I got him from the van, I asked what happened. They assured me that this was one setting shorter than we'd been getting. You can see that it wasn't. Later, I texted to follow up and ask what size I'd need to ask for next time...and they ghosted me. After a transaction totaling over $200. They have failed to respond to another text from me and one from my wife. We got a little worried so we sent an email. No dice. As a last-ditch effort (in this day and age), we made a call to each of their phones. Nothing. I guess you need to spend over $300 to get a reply nowadays? No thanks.
