Decided to write a review because we have had the most pleasant experience taking our three year old Corgi to Moon Doggy, and our most recent appointment really showed how comfortable she's become with her visits! We started taking her to Moon Doggy back in 2024. We really needed help clipping her nails, and had tried everything at home. She was shaking when we first arrived, and we weren't sure if the groomers would be a long term solution for her. Now, she really perks up when her favorite people are around, especially Daniel who she runs right to because she knows she's going to get lots of love and treats. We've also expanded her services to full baths, nail clippings, and blueberry (or plum!) facials. On our last visit, we chatted with the cashier and found out he was Daniel's dad. We had no idea this was a family business! Our dog is such a happy girl when we pick her up, and I think it's a true testament to this business's love for what they do, their patience with each dog, and how gentle they are. Treats and bribery always help, but it's the care they show that brings us back! read more

I've been bringing my dog here for years, which is why this experience was especially disappointing. I got to the appointment and asked them to cut my dogs hair to a medium length. I was told my dog was "too matted" and that shaving him down was the only option. I know for a fact he was not matted, I brush him daily and can run my fingers through his fur. But shaving him down completely was probably easier and faster for the groomer so I'm sure that's why they pushed for it. Then a comment was made about me dropping my dog off off "sandy" because we had gone to the beach beforehand. At these grooming prices, I absolutely have the right to take my dog to the beach before bringing him in to be cleaned -- that is literally the purpose of a grooming appointment. Instead of handling the situation professionally, the manager became argumentative, defensive & overly sensitive. He then threatened to refuse service while telling me to leave despite the fact that I had booked this haircut over a month in advance...and I hadn't done anything wrong other than disagreeing that my dog was matted. This is now the second time I've had an issue with that same manager. Despite this, I really needed his haircut before going away with him for the summer so I needed to keep the appointment. The manager reluctantly agreed to cut him after embarrassing me / himself in front of other customers in the lobby. When I picked my dog up, he looked terrible. They shaved him so close to the skin that he now has visible bald spots, yet somehow still left the hair around his eyes and mouth way too long and uneven. *Another frustrating side note is that nearly every time I book an appointment online with them, they call me the day before asking if I can move the appointment to an earlier time. If they don't actually want to honor the time slots listed on their website, then why offer them in the first place? I immediately searched up other dog groomers to start going to in the future, and I now realize how expensive they are compared to other groomers in the area. Which is crazy considering the quality of service and customer experience. After years of coming here, I won't be returning. Save your money and go elsewhere. read more

I had such a great experience from beginning to end. Starting with with booking with Daniel, who was really kind and helpful. First thing he said was that he wanted my pup to have a great experience and want to come back - loved that. The ladies who do the grooming are amazing. Donna was the groomer that helped my fur child and she left her absolutely gorgeous. I should add that when I brought her in she was a matted, mop bucket. Thank you for her transformation. I'm so disappointed in the experience I just had here on 4/21/23. Disappointed enough that I decided not to follow through with my dog's grooming appointment and instead sit in my car and write this review. Unfortunately, during our last visit here, my dog received a pretty nasty cut, and her declaws were not trimmed. Subsequently, she was treated at the vet for this cut. Groomers are human and make mistakes--absolutely no big deal. Additionally, when I picked her up from that appointment, her groomer immediately told me that she had been nicked. Again, no big deal! This time, however, when dropping her off, I mentioned This time however, when dropping her off, I mentioned it as a cautionary tale to please be more careful this time as my dog had to go to the vet for the cut and also to make sure to trim her declaws this time around. This is where it all went downhill. I felt as though I had a dog sicced on me. I believe at the mention of the vet, Alma was instructed to come and speak with me. This totally makes sense; however, what ensued did not. First, she was there when my dog was cut, yet, she interrogated and berated me over this and began searching my dog for her cut. She then asked for the invoice from the vet or if I could provide her with one. It got to the point where she began talking over me, and I let her know how disheartening this whole situation had become. Again, I wanted nothing more than for the groomer to be more careful and thorough this time around. This situation became so uncomfortable for me that I decided to thank them for their previous services, leave and never come back. Now I have to find a new groomer on the Westside. read more

I've taken my dog to a number of groomers over the years, but Moon Doggy's has consistently been the best. For reference, he's a goldendoodle that gets a shave every two months -- it always grows out nicely, without any froufrou styling. Daniel and Leslie are always kind and detail oriented, and my dog comes back not only looking and smelling great, but without any of the issues we've faced elsewhere (nicks, razor burn, etc). Most importantly, he doesn't mind being dropped off there and is always happy. After moving away from Santa Monica, I started bringing him to a different spot in the valley that ended up leaving his tail matted, among other things. This meant bringing him all the way back to Moon Doggy's to help fix it -- I needed folks I could rely on, and that would also make his comfort a top priority. We're moving out of state soon, and it'll be hard to find another groomer that compares. Thank you for being our trusty spot in Santa Monica, and we'll miss you when we do! read more

We've only had the best experiences with Danny and Leslie. Everyone else seems wonderful too. They are invested in creating a long term relationship with your pet, and they are determined to make grooming a positive experience. They ease the dog into grooming, first encouraging bath appointments and they throw in a few extra services to send you home with a cleaned up pup. They wait on a full cut until your pet is ready and tend to your pet with a lot of love and care. while my dog is not a fan of being groomed, he is happy at moon doggy's because of how the staff cares for him and makes the experience positive. He even jumps up to give kisses to both his groomer and bather before leaving. I'd give them a bonus star for 6/5 if i could! Prices are on the higher end, but they are worth it! I wanted to wait until my dog went here at least twice to make sure their work is consistent. Hands down this is the best groomers on the west side! They are true professionals with A+ service. They follow directions correctly about haircut for my dog, and she is not terrified of going here which tells me they are gentle and kind to the animals. Worse Groomer Ever! Stay away - learn from my mistake. Brought my cute 10 pound maltipoo in for a summer cut. This was my first time at Moon Doggy's and I'll never go back. I should have turned around the moment I walked in and saw a dog sitting on the elevated grooming table unattended, with its neck in the restraint. I mentioned something to them and they stated that the dog was a regular and they didn't have any worries. I gave them guidelines on cutting her hair (i.e., just clean it up and take it down a bit). When I picked up my dog, I didn't recognize her and was mortified. It seemed like their young female groomer must have been stoned. She bedazzled my dog's snout (glued on rhinestones), cut off her beard and side chops entirely, cut off her eyebrows, chopped up and layered her ears (horribly), and even CUT HER WHISKERS OFF! I have never had a groomer cut off my dog's whiskers!!! This place clearly has no idea how to groom a dog. Not to mention that the hatchett job the groomer did on my dog was crooked. See pics. I did not know how horrible she was, I didn't notice how bad the hair cut was until about a day later, I started seeing where she shaved her too close with the clippers and then I saw her ear WTF It looked like she nipped her with the scissors are the clippers and thinking back when I was picking her up she kept trying to put a Bow over her ear so I wouldn't see it. Moon doggy's is the best! The owner is so nice and truly cares about all the dogs she cares for and her customers. She always makes sure you leave with exactly what you want and will even let you come back for a touch up if you need (although I have never actually needed it). She takes your picture examples and will give advice on how to handle certain things (like if they need a little bit of a shave down in certain areas) so there are no surprises. She does the whole deal including nails and anal expression. I have a 25lb labradoodle who gets really matted and she takes the time to de-matt him and give him a cut that grows out nicely. Her prices are great! (considering other groomer's charge anywhere from $30-$60 more just for doodles). After one bad experience with another groomer who completely shaved my pup down to looking like a different dog I was so nervous going to someone new - now I know my dog is in good hands here and I don't plan on going anywhere else. read more

We've been a few times and always got a great haircut and friendly service. They're usually able to get us in on short notice and their prices are in line with other Santa Monica groomers. This last haircut I grabbed our pooch and Moon Doggy wasn't happy with the cut. She was long and matted and they did their best but it didn't live up to their high standards.
