I've always groomed my own dogs, but when my foster dog developed a severely overgrown dewclaw which curled in a circle and threatened to puncture the pad, I decided to let a pro handle it. Two groomers told me to go to the vet for it. That sounded like several hundred dollars to do what a groomer would do, and probably them also suggesting a four figure surgery to remove the dewclaws. Walking by The Pet Affaire, I decided to drop in and met Rodney, who told me to come by the next morning with the dog. In about 10 minutes, a unfazed Rodney and his team did all his nails and cut back the problem dewclaw significantly, despite the Cujo-like antics of the (muzzled) dog. The price was super reasonable and the dog doesn't associate me with the unpleasant experience. Win-win. I love watching pros who know what they're doing, and this was a perfect example of that. I have two dogs. My youngest is a very anxious shelter dog, so we weren't surprised when he got a few cuts the first time at this parlor. He was probably shaking making it difficult to cut. Understandable. But every single time after, he would come back with cuts, particularly on his little butt and he would lick it raw. We had to start taking him to different parlor to see if it still happened. Nope. Not a single cut at the new place, ever! Our oldest didn't seem to have an issue here. Just a few cuts once in a while and he didn't seem bothered. This time they cut him horrible on his penis and lower tummy. Huge red cuts and and a rash. Dogs can be very tricky to cut sometimes. But the fact that they can't properly give haircuts to two 14 pound dogs without hurting them is ridiculous. Shame on these people. read more
