I had recently adopted Professor who originally had matted patches and was in need of a spa day. I came across Paws & Effect via yelp. We've already been back twice! The staff are so nice and made us feel welcomed. Professor was calm and came out looking so fresh, clean and smelled great! Will definitely recommend this place and plan to come back again ^_^

This was my first time bringing my dog here, and I couldn't be happier with the experience. She was really scared because she had a bad experience at another grooming place where someone accidentally cut her paw while trimming her nails. The team here was so kind, gentle, and patient with her -- it made such a difference. The staff member at the front, Quinlan, was especially welcoming and helpful, which made our first visit even better. I highly recommend this place and will definitely be coming back!

I was previously taking my dog to Health Spot for grooming but we had a bad experience and I had to find a new groomer. It's always daunting to take your senior dog into a new groomers, but the staff at Paws & Effect Pet Spa have made that transition incredibly easy. Not only are they closer to me but they are all incredibly nice, their prices are very reasonable and they don't nickel and dime you on add-ons. My dog Lucy got an incredible cut and they were able to finish fairly quickly which is always nice. I'm so glad we found a new and better local groomer.

Took my dog Charlie here for the first time today! We usually go to PETCO and feel like he comes back shedding the same amount and little care is taken to make him feel special. The team here took their time to de shed him, added paw oil, brushed his teeth, and even provided him with a flower on his collar and some treats. The owner was fantastic and workers were kind. A bit more expensive than PETCO but you're getting that special small business treatment. We will be back!

I brought my 10 month old rescue doodle pup (Huxley) here for his first ever haircut. He's a bit of timid boy so I was very nervous going in. I called the morning of my appointment and they did a great job of walking me through the process and giving me tips to help make sure he had a great experience (bring some of your dogs favorite treats!!). When I rescued him, he already had some bad matting behind the ears and on the legs. I definitely could have done a better job grooming him. When I got there I spoke with Quinlan who was amazing! He showed me all the places that were matted that I didn't even notice. He clearly explained that they could try brushing out the matts but that would be an uncomfortable experience for Huxley and may traumatize him, making future grooming scary. I explained that I would REALLY like to keep as much hair as possible but also wanted to prioritize his comfort. Quinlan wrote down all my request and even had my inspiration picture already in their system. (This ain't their first time!) Shortly after I left, I got super anxious about how short they were going to cut. I called back and Quinlan reassured me that he communicated to the groomer that I would like to save as much hair as possible. What I really loved was that about 15 minutes later he gave me a call back saying they had more thuroughly examined Huxley and the matting was more intensive than they previously thought. We agreed that the best way to proceed would just be to shave him and give him a reset to grow back healthy fur. Quinlan and the staff clearly had Huxleys best interest at heart and they did a great job of communicating with me and setting expectations. In preparing for his first haircut I read countless reviews of groomers and saw story after story of someone picking up their dog and the groomer had done something completely opposite of what they requested without ever communicating with the owner. Paws and Effects kept me regularly updated and talked me through what would be best for Huxley. I can't stress enough how nice this was for someone getting their puppie's first haircut and how much it helped to relieve my anxiety. Huxley is now looking cute as a button and doesn't have large matts pulling at his skin, making him uncomfortable! Thank you so much Quinlan and everyone at Paws and Effects. We will definetly be coming back soon! (The photos show how overgrown and matted he was before his cut. They even saved a large matt to show me when I picked him up)

I can't recommend Paws and Effect enough! They're very kind and thoughtful about bathing and grooming. My dog can be pretty nervous; they noticed, and asked if I'd be open to coming on Sundays when it's a little quieter for him. They're genuine in their care for the dogs that they work with. My dog always comes out smelling so clean, with his paws and nails nicely trimmed and groomed. They also have a great shop area filled with unique treats, toys, and grooming supplies! read more

Such a cute little spot. The staff was warm and welcoming and super sweet with my dog. She was nervous when I dropped her off, but when I picked her up she had the cutest little flower on her collar and had a kick in her step. She smells great and her coat is super shiny. This is a great place to bring a dog for grooming. I have an 18 lb poodle mix and he looks so good! He had a bath, a haircut and other extras they do. I highly recommend P&E spa! I brought him in and they were efficient and friendly. They also have a lot of accessories for pets. read more

My recently adopted king cavalier spaniels got a bath and groom here at Paws & Effect today. It seems like trimming the hair around their paws gets long and makes it uncomfortable to walk. I tried to trim it myself but not as easy as YouTube makes it seem especially since they are not puppies. I'm super happy how nice both of their cuts and how well their paws were trimmed. The groomers were very gentle and good with my timid doggies. I highly recommend Paws and Effect. read more

Paid for their full spa service, and they missed a big spot of paint where my dog sat on a paint brush. You would think for this kind of money, they would notice and wash the paint out. Instead, they told me to go home and trim my dog's fur to get the paint out. Would you go here after that kind of experience? read more

Great neighborhood place, they always do a nice job. I love that their basic bath includes a paw trim and sanitary trim! That's usually the only haircut we need for my golden retriever but most place charge way more for a haircut (or even a mini haircut). We will keep coming back! read more

I always bring my doggie here and he always comes out looking so sweet and cute!! I am EXTREMELY particular about where he goes because my mom had a groomer be abusive to her dog in the past. I also spent a lot of time looking for a groomer, and many shops rubbed me the wrong way based on how the owners would respond to negative reviews. This place is a literal DREAM and my lil Jameson always comes out looking and smelling amazing!! Everyone working there is so kind and they have the cutest merchandise to browse through when you drop your pet off. We started taking her to Moon Doggy back in 2024. We really needed help clipping her nails, and had tried everything at home. She was shaking when we first arrived, and we weren't sure if the groomers would be a long term solution for her. Now, she really perks up when her favorite people are around, especially Daniel who she runs right to because she knows she's going to get lots of love and treats. We've also expanded her services to full baths, nail clippings, and blueberry (or plum!) facials. On our last visit, we chatted with the cashier and found out he was Daniel's dad. We had no idea this was a family business! Our dog is such a happy girl when we pick her up, and I think it's a true testament to this business's love for what they do, their patience with each dog, and how gentle they are. The entire process was so intuitive and easy and intelligent-- the intake form on his website, subsequent communications and all questions wonderfully answered. When I finally met him in person, I got to meet his dog that accompanies him, Cali (safely from the cab, in case like our Luna, socializing is not your thing) who was the gentlest, sweetest, most precious girl. Which, note, is very telling about what kind of person Andy is and his ethos for how he treats every dog: so caring, thorough, attentive, responsive, loving, calm, wise, considerate, communicative, joyful. The staff member assisting me said she couldn't track him down and hadn't heard from him. I also asked why there were so many dogs waiting in cages, and she explained that grooming had started late that day. I understand that Halloween can be a busy night for people, but it felt irresponsible for the remaining staff not to anticipate that clients would still show up for their scheduled appointments. At a minimum, customers should have been notified in advance or offered a replacement groomer, rather than finding out after arriving. I had to leave and cancel appointments I had in anticipation of being able to be without my dog for few hrs which was a huge inconvenience.

It used to be well-run under the previous manager, Kirsten, but the quality of care has completely collapsed under the new management. In May 2025, our dog was returned to us with almost all of her food untouched. Initially they tried to give every excuse trying to explain the discrepancy. However after thousands in vet bills, the manager (Nan) eventually admitted she was likely fed the wrong food or not fed at all. We received a refund and were promised better oversight personally from Nan. In September 2025, despite our experience in May, during my wife's medical emergency, we boarded her for one night. She was returned to us yet again with her food untouched. Staff told us she had been fed, but after more health issues, the manager later confirmed on camera that she had not been fed at all. [Email w/ the admission in screenshot] This isn't a one-time mistake. It's clear neglect followed by dishonesty. No responsible pet owner should ever trust this facility again. Complaints have been filed with local authorities for violation of California Health and Safety Code §122383(d).

DO NOT GO HERE. If I could sue for animal abuse, I would, it seems like my dog has been tortured…read more For context: my dog is 9 years old, 6 pounds, has no teeth, and has had a C-section. She is small, elderly, and vulnerable. She also has no way to protect herself. Since this groom, my dog is shaking, terrified, withdrawn, walking abnormally, and yelps in pain when picked up and pet even gently. She's previously a show dog, has been groomed many times before, and has never had this kind of reaction. Her personality changed from a happy, social dog who loved being held & pet to a fearful, in constant pain, trembling dog. I brought her in with clear instructions and reference photos: do not cut short. Small trim only--even the coat and keep her round. The woman I spoke to appeared to understand. I arrived for pickup and she was shaved down. No call. No consent. Only after I saw what was done did a man at the front say she "had mats" and told me to "come back every month." If matting was the issue, you call the owner before shaving--especially after being told "do not cut short." There were multiple options (spot demat, longer session, reschedule, partial trim). I would have happily paid for whatever extra time was needed to avoid putting my dog through pain. I had my phone on me and I have no missed calls/texts/voicemails from the business. I've been to the vet within the last month for a full checkup and they confirmed she was healthy, happy, and in zero pain pre-groom. I brush her daily, carefully shave her stomach at home to prevent matting, and she's nothing but sweet. I've had Pomeranians before--this isn't my first rodeo. If they're claiming they shaved her because they thought she was "in pain" before, which she wasn't--she is clearly in a lot of pain now. She can barely sit down without wincing in pain. I called my vet and they're having me come in for a check up this week to make sure they didn't hurt her irreversibly. I paid and left because I'm not confrontational and I was in shock. But when I saw her walking outside I knew something was seriously wrong. I got to my car and broke down crying while holding my helpless dog. And on top of that, the grooming itself is genuinely bad: uneven, choppy, rough, and looks rushed, careless. I'll have to trim her myself to make sure it grows in evenly. They offered a refund which I have not received. I would never want this service even if it were free--trauma is lifelong. Before/after photos attached. If you care about your dog's wellbeing, DO NOT GO here under any circumstances. Its a sketchy business, boarded up windows; I chose it because I thought it was a kinder groomer since they say they don't use cages but you can't see where the dogs are groomed so who knows & there's a genuine lack of care or gentleness in their grooming methods. I don't think my dog has smiled since the appointment.

In response to the accusations that this communication is false and I have never been threatened or offered money to take down this review, please see the screenshots below. The owner of paws and effect ( Keyvan ) continues to alter his response to my review ( 7 times so far in two months.) In response to the owners latest update: I contacted my vet this am. He claims that no one at his facility including himself has spoken with the owner or anyone related to the pet spa. They do not talk to anyone who is not on the account. I also have the medical report. There is no mention of sensitivity to the area nor any scooting. While I cannot speak for any of his other clients, I am aware of another client who reached out to me privately, who says her dog had a similar ailment occur at the same grooming salon. As far as asking me to remove my review: The owner has also reached out to me privately via text a few times asking me to remove my review in And in the latest request, approx two weeks ago, He threatened me with legal action if I did not remove the legitimate review within 3 days that had been diagnosed by a vet. He has also offered me money on 2 sep occasions to remove my review which I have of course declined. Dear Natasha, This is keyvan the owner of Paws & Effect Pet Spa, and I am writing about the review you recently posted online. Your review has caused substantial harm to our business. My golden doodle,Jerry is very sweet but not easy when it comes to grooming. I have been to every groomer in and around Santa Monica. Paws&Effect got it right. The groomer,Jake listened to how I wanted Jerry's hair cut and did exactly what I wanted. All of the employees are very helpful. What a wonderful experience we had at Paws Effect Pet Spa starting with a productive conversation with Sharon about Sofie, my elderly, blind, possibly deaf, 14 year old Hungarian Puli who was in desperate need of grooming. Sharon recommended the Comfort Care bath & grooming done by Kathy who also understood Sofie's needs. They are absolutely the best for my Kitties' Mani-Pedis. Trust me, I have been to a lot of places with quite frankly, scary results. Sharon, the owner is amazing, and all the people that work there are so nice. All the dogs who are being groomed seriously, actually look happy! (there is a window you can look into!) I absolutely love Paws & Effect. I have been going for 4 months now and the entire staff is incredibly caring. I can trust them completely to take good care of my Doberman pup every single time. He always looks shiny and perfect when he leaves and not only do they take extra care of his sensitive skin, but also have gone out of their way to squeeze me in when I had a scheduling mix up. This is a charming corner shop with lots of light and appeal. My dogs felt welcomed by the bowl of water out front and treat bowl in the shop. My three dogs (two little chihuahua mixes and a big labrador mix) came out with the softest and whitest fur. I asked for an enhancement for the two girls, and they came out with adorable jewels (temporary of course!) on their ears. Color and nail polish can also be applied for those inclined. It's scary dropping off your baby/dog to the groomers because you hear horror stories! I'm a helicopter dog mom and felt SO assured right when I walked in. I was greeted warmly and when I came back to get Coop Dawg he was being loved up by the staff and looked fresh! His cut was perfect and he was happy! Definitely recommend and will be returning soon! Love love love the staff here. Normally, my dog hates getting groomed and shakes throughout the entire process. But he was so well taken care of and given such personalized attention that he was fine (and not anxious) when I picked him up. He looked and smelled great too!
