I used to shop here almost daily, just as I did at Marina Meats (same owner I believe). Quality declined and prices went sky high, so it's been a while. Today, I bought a greek salad with limp and clearly rotten chunks of cucumbers, and huge very expired chunks of tomatoes. Heavy in weight, low on ingredients. Not edible. Also bought a broccoli and pea salad. The broccoli is YELLOW! Meaning very over the hill. Heavy with old, expired YELLOW broccoli (I found 1 pea) and nothing else. I have pictures. The alleged deli server was mia until the long-time beloved professional cashier yelled at him to come. He then dished out the rotten food I described. (Yes, I didn't see how bad the food was before I opened containers at home.) The prices are obscene. I am ok paying for quality food, but not for bad stuff. I am going to return. I will update review if they don't refund. It's sad that this local shop has stooped to this. read more

The only thing more stellar was the customer service: Employees on ladders, stocking produce, at the register: How may they help me, am I looking for something in particular? Friendly, kind, sweet, welcoming- exceptional service. Every employee had pride in his role. No dust, every box and bottle facing perfectly and exactly centered, the beauty queen of supermarkets. The other striking thing about this supermarket is the succession of rooms all the way to the back of the building, to each side like a gorgeous puzzle. It is a very large and well supplied market. My coworker raved about the breakfast burrito. Yep, it's darn delicious. Humungous. Took me three tries to finish it. Mucho bueno! I've been in almost 3x a week, not just for burritos. The produce is fresh and I load up on work lunch supplies. Iceberg lettuce and roasted tri-tip makes my steak salads. Even a unique non-alcoholic beer for the Friday crew drink. AVOID!!!!!!! This market used to be very good before covid. Ever since they have declined to the point where NO ONE SHOULD SHOP HERE!!! The quality of produce is disgusting. Most of it is molded on the inside and needs to be thrown away. They have almost NO ORGANIC FOOD, and charge exorbitant prices for GMO. One non-organize avocado will cost you almost $5. WARNING! Their prepared meals taste bad, EXPENSIVE and are often going bad. I have gotten severe food sickness twice recently from them. I have also been double charged for items. I bought one expensive cheese to come home and look at my receipt to find I was charged for two. I do not know what is wrong with the people running this market, but they will not face you, nor will they engage to answer questions. AVOID!!!!!!! read more

I specifically order a rare roast beef sandwich but it was well done with small serving of roast beef. I came back and told the preparer that the meat was not as ordered. She said that is the way it comes. I showed her the tri-tip in the showcase which was nice and pink. Instead of offering to remake the sandwich she argued and said order tri-tip next time. I have ordered rare roast beef here before, was very pleased with what I ordered. Went to the Marina market and the staff checking me out was extremely rude, hostile, and outright disrespectful. I had changed my mind about one item I checked out, and he proceeded to yell at me for 3 minutes saying "I'm interrupting his process" and then proceeded to overcharge me for two different items. He then blamed it on him being "Boston and east coast" and swore at me. I expected more from a local market that already overcharges for the items. If im paying extra for this local spot, I expect to be treated like a human being. read more

Like many others in earlier reviews, the prepared foods are the go-to item for me here. Tasty, good selection, and reasonably priced. The market itself is larger than you might think - there are 2 rooms in the back if you keep walking past the produce. I would have given this more stars except for 2 issues: 1) most of the produce is NOT organic, and 2) the store might be open but they close the prepared foods counter 1-2 hours before closing time. I have gone there numerous times thinking I'll be able to pick something up for dinner or tomorrow's lunch, and while I can see a lot of food in the refrigerated case, the guy at the register tells me I'll have to come back tomorrow. If you're open until 5pm or 8pm (depending on the night), why don't you have the staff there to serve people? Smh... If you're out of luck like I was and they won't give you any of the food that is tempting you just a few feet away, walk up the hill to Luke's Local on Union Street - a little more expensive but it's good quality, the folks are friendly, and the place is open til 8pm every night. read more

Super cute & convenient neighborhood grocery store. I stopped by today to get a few ingredients to make scallops mousseline & didn't feel like jumping in the car to go to TJs just to buy a few items. The store is a lot bigger on the inside although aisles are narrow. They carry a lot of items including prepared meals (pastas in sauce, cooked salmon & meat entrees), fresh pasta including squid ink linguine and have a deli counter too. Staff were helpful in locating items since the refrigerated section is located in several places (one is in the middle & the second is in the back right corner). Prices are a bit higher than TJs but it's the price of convenience & I try to supply local businesses when I can. read more

Asked this man if they had fresh fish here and he told me "in the corner". Asked if he meant in the corner of the store and he pointed the other direction and firmly said "in the corner!" So I asked again inside this store? Because I didn't see a meat section and he told me "if I say corner I obviously mean on the corner of the street at our meat market" ok grumpy I clearly don't know that if I'm asking. I love this place so much and I feel blessed that we have this wonderful supermarket in the Marina. My wife and I buy a different soup every other day. They are made in house and they are SO F GOOD it's shocking. They have an incredible variety and they are so healthy with limited sodium, tons of fresh vegetables and a lot of different lean proteins. It's the best kept secret in our hood. Try them all and thank me later. Oh yeah I almost forgot. The price is Unbeatable. $7.99 for a large and $4.99 for a small. The Marina Supermarket is a cornerstone of the Marina District's main shopping strip. Its a relatively small market (think European!) so if you want selection, head over to the Marina Safeway. Here you'll find a moderate selection of produce, prepared foods, and baked goods. The prepared foods are the go-to item for me here. I like to get a sampling of various prepared foods and then make the relaxing 10-minute walk down to the water to eat with a view. They will also cut cold-cuts to order. They get most of their cold-cuts from Boar's Head. My favorite is the smoked turkey. The market is privately-owned, and the staff does a wonderful job answering questions. I really like their deli section here. They make great sandwiches and have a good selection of what looks like homemade salads. Their fruits and vegetables section in front of the store also promises to be quite a goldmine. My suggestion would be: If you're in the area and want to grab a quick bite to eat...and not wait at the nearby eateries...come here and put yourself together a little picnic basket: a sandwich, a quinoa salad, some fruit from their wides selection outside and a bottle of wine...and then take all of that down to Crissy Field and enjoy all of it while looking out over the Golden Gate. I like this place a lot. Nice staff. it's very convenient and most of the time, they have a decent deli. But be careful of their egg salad. A few times I bought it (I finally learned my lesson), it was bad. I could kind of tell right away it didn't look right, darker than it should be and a little slimy. I once mentioned bad egg salad when it happened quite a while ago, but I'm not sure the staff passed the complaint to anyone. I never return bad products because what's the point? read more

At the Marina Supermarket grocery store, it's a great spot to hang out. They have a best produce department Fresh fruit & Fresh vegetable, they have the best organic drink & organic food, best organic snack & best organic chips ever!!! Great selection for a local supermarket. I stop in here quite frequently to pick up some beer since their selection is pretty good, but they've also got a solid selection of wine and cheese as well. This supermarket looks small on the outside. Don't be fooled. It's actually quite large and has everything. There is also a large selection of ready made food items in addition to deli sandwiches. We picked up some salami and cheese and expected a higher quality since its always $3-$4 more than what you can buy at a supermarket like Trader joes or Whole foods. Since they were all packaged and plastic wrapped, we just picked up the top of the pile. The cheese turned out to be old and mushy inside, hard outside. The meet is impossible to cut through so we open the whole thing and look at the green mold on the picture I just took! No need to say but I'm going to return these today and tell them they need to clean up their inventory with outdated products. If you look for green and fresh produce, they maybe the one if you must. For everything else, make sure you look at the expiration date. And for things that don't have one, just don't risk buying them read more

Though the Marina Supermarket is not a traditional supermarket as we American's have become used to. Its more of a European-style market. The best parts of the store are the deli, the cheese selection, and the produce. The deli has fantastic sandwiches, however, I typically go for the prepared food. They do a wonderful job preparing fresh foods each day, and always have an ample amount on hand. On a Sunday afternoon, this store is filled with a combination of locals doing their shopping for the week, and those who are simply picking up a bite to eat on the Marina Green. The only privately owned supermarket in the neighborhood, the management has a loyal and personable staff and a wide selection of food across all categories (the butcher halfway down the block is part of this business.) The breads are fresh daily, cold cuts ate cut to order (unlike Safeway) and the other fresh food selections are tasty. The store is laid out with easy access to all good. The store reminds me of an old style urban grocery (sorry but I do not consider the Marina to be "urban"). Fresh produce up front and refrigerated dairy in the rear. The service is friendly and most of the staff have been there a long time. I stop by for a couple of staples that I need when I am up on Chestnut Street. Bob always gives me a solid greeting.
